Birthdays are important.
I was on another vampire site and perusing all their dark meanderings into the tortured and misunderstood souls of vampires, and at the very bottom of the screen where the visitor count is listed was a line regarding birthdays being celebrated that day.
Do vampires celebrate their birthdays? And, if so, which one? Their birth as a human or their birth as a vampire?
Or, perhaps both?
Would a real vampire like a surprise party?
Would a vampire like a pinata or perhaps a donor jumping out of a cake?
What do you give to someone who can "take" whatever they want?
If you care to, please describe the best vampire party ever.
I would think only the birthday party of the birth vampire side. since when that happens the human dies.
I would love a donor coming out of a cake, but also a bunch of dancers ( not naked please) willing to donate a gift for the birthday girl
and mostly the party would have to be on the top of a roof and being party all over several roofs of high buildings. then we can move away from the rising sun and keep partying because we would be going from one to another roof away from the day rising loll
I have no clue if it was me I'd probably just celebrate my birth as a vampire but still go up from my human years say turned at 21 be celebrating 22
I would most definitely have two birthdays a year for the rest of forever :) Also I think the surprise would have to be for the one who jumps out the cake......XD
No, I don't celebrate my birthday. I don't see any purpose to celebrate, is just another excuse created by the human race to get drunk...LOL.
You mean their Human birthday , or the day they became Vampires?
ROTFLMAO
It depends on who you are. :D Some people like parties while others don't. It's the same with vampires. But after so many, MANY... years it gets hard to surprise someone. lol
This thread is just silly.
I mean..come on!!!
-__-..
yes they have B days.
Geeze.
--
I thought comes to mind though.
Do some vamps have B days for the first time the
wake..or turn?Be re born..that is.
Of course they celebrate their birthday.
Well... that is, unless they're Jehovah's Witnesses. ;)
I'd be the greedy one to want to celebrate both of my birthdays, vampiric and human...
A donor would sound nice...but could he/she just be carrying the cake? I still want to see if it is worth "sinking my teeth into"...haha.
I think after a while I'll just stop once I get bored of having them
Personally I don't care about b-days. Its just another way of saying... "Hey, I am selfish, give me something."
I rather loathe surprise parties as well. If I need to be surprised on a b-day, then I must be quite forgetful if I need a reminder that it is indeed a b-day day.
Well I don't know if its flattering in mortal years count* but i can say is not flattering in vampire years, I guess their is complexities involved in that notion or that reaction is long evaded or matured; I guess is just a phase, once you are matured the celebration is pointless, although the intentions are welcoming yet special when it comes from the right person/people. I guess is just a matter of individual, one can't say all people are alike in taste of celebrations.
Some might, some just don't. Particular older ones might find that the passage of time is so fast that it would seem to an immortal that one moment they were 38, and the next they were 48.
That said, a celebration is something that vampires can use to keep the fire of their former lives burning. It would be far to easy to give into the coldness of eternity and become only monster.
However, truly vile vampires who revel in their monstrous natures more than they are created to might just spend a night in honour of their mortal birth with the blood of a newborn child.
The best vampire party would be 25 virgin maidens wearing white, their hair and makeup done perfectly and the sense of innocence clear in their eyes.
They shall appear on an exquisite crystalline platter adorned with various precious stones. To their backs lies a large ice sculpture formed into an angel.
The birthday vamp and their guests dig in happily.
Hmmm, your enemies lined up on flagpoles... Wonder how Vlad Tepes celebrated his... HA!
Birthdays as in the day they were born, or the day they were awakened?
Your choice, Nocara. Fictional vampires always seem to know how old they are, so I think there's some counting going on. From when, to now . . . you decide.
I would say yes vampires would love to have a birthday.. I mean everyone celebrates in their own way but yes i think they would for sure.
Cool question --
If I was a real vampire, I would celebrate the
day I was changed .
I cannot attest to a vampire birthday... but I wonder how much trouble you'd be in if you were in vampire clan for hundreds of years and still forgot their birthday.
i celebrate mine, I feel it helps to remember how old we are !!! If we didn't celebrate, why even keep track...
I don't want to keep track of my birthday now. As a vampire...I could just see 2000 candles on a cake. I am lucky to blow out the ones now let alone hundreds or thousands.
To me it would depend on the person, vamps are a lot like other ppl some celebrate some do not
I would think that vampires would celebrate the day coming into the land of the living and the day coming into the life of the undead. As well as their first bite.
A surprise party, full of nubile, boot wearing females, willing to give all for their lord and master.
And of course a pinata made to look like Count Duckula
You have to clarify if you mean fictional or historical or you are meaning the subculture. Those in the subculture would depending on their belief system. As for the others the historical ones tend to be revenants which closely resemble zombies if you mean Eastern European and I wouldn't think they would have a need for that. As far as books it would depend on how the author portrayed the vampire. Also which birthday, when they were actually born or became a vampire or from the date of awakening for the subculture, lol??
Of course they do on sites you are looking at.
Everyone, every human anyway, denies they want their b'day recognized, but we all love it when someone remembers, so Meeper makes a very good point.
I think there'd be Hell to pay if you were in a vampire society and forgot the Masters b'day. He/she would most likely sulk, and feel like no one cared. Why be in a Society if peeps or vamps can't keep track of a simple thing like a b'day?
Depending on what birth you may be talking about. as human or vampire, after the ages many of these dates may just run together and be a blur in ones mind.
I personally think that some wouldn't care while others would do it for either a small connection to humanity or just because they could. I would also imagine that they would get tired of it after a while though.
Vampires, aren't exactly like movies, nor myth, nor the whole -lifestylers- or the "community".. More human than you would characterize, but if you want to imagine as mythology; then it is & is not in certain aspects- well painted in some characteristic, and not so much in others, the zombie thing is one that is not- but to each their own conception. As for years, on what i "know" the celebration isn't that important, as humans that reach a certain age the birthday rite becomes just verbal exchange of greetings than a celebration; but who knows, those well rooted in society could do the whole practice, just as marriages, among other rites.
After a certain age I think birthdays would be overrated. I stopped celebrating mine but everyone else keeps reminding me of it rotfl! I love the fact that I'm a year older but don't want the party or well overdone drunken celebration.
many in the past did ot remember their birthdays the brain can store a tremendous amount of information but after a certain point it starts to weed out things when there was too much data and their actual birthday became inconsequential as they celebrated their awakenings
Well a birthday each year gives most a reason so celebrate, and having 2 even better.
I guess the perfect party would be a smorgasbord of victims :P
I would think maybe in the begining they would celebrate there human birthday but after a few hunred years it would prolly get very tedious and I dont think a vampire would like a suprise party, that would prolly end bad for the person who is saying suprise
As long as I get presents, I'll be happy to celebrate!
Perhaps a vampire would give herself a new protegee for her birthday. An entire human year would be spent stalking the lucky one, the birthday party revolving around the conversion, whether filled with terror or ritual depending on the mindset of the particular vamp and victim.
why would a vampire celebrate a birthday.
They are turned into a vampire....not born......... so no birthday
forgotten years would no matter to a vampire, just the present for the past is but a dream.
hmmm,
Id have to say that i would keep track of both but i doubt id make it known. Id probably celebrate to myself.
I think that they would. But only if they wanted to because even regular people may or may not celebrate!
Bloodmother asked about pinatas....is it even possible to put blood into a pinata?
We're sort of blood bags already, aren't we? Plus, don't minimize Mexican vampire ingenuity - I'm sure a pinata could be lined with plastic or filled with transfusion bags heisted from the local blood bank. A rollicking good time would be had by all . . . except the pinata.
"Do vampires celebrate their birthdays?"
-- Yes.
"...if so, which one?"
-- The one they were born on. Its birthday, not deathday.
"Would a real vampire like a surprise party?"
-- Vampires are too 1337 for emotions.
"Would a vampire like a pinata or perhaps a donor jumping out of a cake?"
-- Vampires like strippers too.
"What do you give to someone who can "take" whatever they want?"
-- A personality.
well it seems we have two sides to this coin, i understand those who love the birthdays and others like me its another day in my life and do not celebrate it.
Yes, I think a vampire would celebrate a birthday, because they are immortal, and vampire knows how many years he has lived. Ask a vampire "how old are you"? he will say "am a 1225 years old", because he still has knowledge of the day he was born. He would celebrate his birthday like any normal person, because nobody forgets the day they were born.
Bloodmother, you come up with the funniest stuff. This of course would depend on whether you are talking about the fictional vampire, historical or the modern culture, lol.
The fictional one would be whatever the author felt about their characters. The historical ones are mostly thought of as revenants which is close to a zombie so I think they would be too busy looking for food to even care or remember. As for the modern culture, most believe you are born a vampyre so yes, they generally celebrate the day they were born. Any other view is conjecture and personal to the individual about past lives and all of that. There are a variety of religious viewpoints followed that vary by individual as well the same as anyone else, so if that religion doesn't celebrate birthdays, I guess they wouldn't either.
All the rest of it would apply to what the individual might like.
I think we all like to count our Birthdays up to a certain point, then we start to cringe.
Perhaps they count backwards like one yr undead, two yrs undead, etc, etc.
At least that's they way I would do it.
If you were immortal your age would go on for eternity.
That depends on the vampire. I dont heavily celebrate mine. I just celebrate it a little bit.
It does depend on the vampire. I celebrate my Human Bday, but what I've always been confused about with myself is. Cycles. When one is finished, and I come back again, is this a new bday? or the continuing of the previous life.......Since I have nobody to show me the way, I'll have to figure this out myself. Does this mean that a vampire may have one human bday and one vampire bday? or one human bday that is the same as their vampire bday and then many more vampire bdays?
Cause if you think about it. Having one life will allow you to have as many bdays as that one life will allow. but what if your cycle is through? then u come back? is this a whole new bday? rendering all other bdays in the previous life kind of Sub-bdays with main bdays on your first day of your new life? does any of this make any sense to anybody else?
Why not celebrate your birthday? I think that most vampires perceive themselves as tortured individuals that live forever. We all know that this isn't the case for real vampires. Instead, we celebrate ordinary living like everyone else. I believe it's up to the individual.
of course, they have an excuse to have 2 a year now! And i think a donor out of a cake would be awesome, and y not a surprise party after that long u there isn't much that surprises u
I would think it might have something to do with their personality. After all, many actually keep that humanity while others let it fade over time.
A b-day celebration is in my perception, a form of humanity. Like that of giving a toast, or drinking a glass of the purest of bloods from a virgin to celebrate with.
whilst others in speculation, Vlad comes into mind once more with the bodies on poles scenerio. Or sitting by the grave of a loved one, or the grave of the vampire themselves if thats what suites them for a b-day from life into the unlife.
Just depends on the personality of said individual.
Vampire as a "so-called" immortal... what would a birthday celebration matter? To remember the date of "conversion" to a vampire to "track" chronological age, yes but, otherwise... again, why would it matter.
Birthday tracking is more a "social noetworking" site feature, IMO.
leoderloewe
Why would anyone want to have a birthday party every year for that long?
It would get old after a while.
No more presents that you haven't gotten before.
No more surprises because you seen them all...
If I was an immortal vampire birthdays would not remind me that I am gettng old but instead boost my self esteam because I would get older in years but still look young :D
Well I look younger than my age, but damn it I still age!
I would think that it depends on the Vampyre. One Vampyre may celebrate his/her human birth and one may celebrate birth as a Vampyre. Others may indeed celebrate both.
Vampyres are like everyone else in that the Vampyre may like a surprise party.
Like above statement a Vampyre mayl ike a pinata or donor jumping out of a cake. Even both it depends on the Vampyre.
As mentioned before Vampyres are in essence like everyone else. If they were to trespass and get caught they'd have to pay. Same as if they were to steal.
One cannot really describe the best party ever for a Vampyre because it does vary on each individual Vampyre.
I would celebrate my birthday if I were a vampire....for the fun of it and simply to keep track of how many years I had lived...
I do not celebrate it now, and would not think a vampire would not either, for like us all the past would be in some cases illusions or mists in our mind.
if i remember from interview with a vampire louis said when he was born human and when he turned and he always gave claudia a doll on the same day every year the day he turned her sooooo i say both and the most awesome party probley would be all your vamp friends shareing drinks of blood that ran over an ice sculpture LOL
i guese so...
maybe...
a want a bride on my birthday...
I mean... a partner to be with forever...
they call it Bride right????
hehehehe... *lol*
if i were to ask...
why not...
it would be nice...
for a change...
Vampires were people first. That life, and the one after, carry the memories of creation.
I am very sure they would celebrate both.
Eh, Vlad is highly over-rated and he wasn't a vampire anyway. Do vampires celebrate their birthday...hmmm. I would suspect it would depend on the culture and traditions. I know as I get older I prefer to forget them or count backward. Now if we are talking about the walking dead revenant, maybe if there was anything there except the thirst for food from whatever source that type took sustenance. Otherwise who would celebrate with them? I know I wouldn't...I would run quickly the other direction. If it was one of the cute vampires they are coming up with in movies and tv that have a conscience, I might stay awhile and even bring a cake for a birthday repeated ad infinitum.
Quote from wikipedia website - Black pudding or blood pudding is a type of sausage made by cooking blood with a filler until it is thick enough to congeal when cooled. It is also called blood sausage (first attested in 1868, perhaps influenced by German Blutwurst). Although "blood sausage" is often labeled as a North American term, it is also found in British English (e.g., in the story "The Name-Day" by Saki). "Blood sausage" is also used as a term for similar blood-based solid foods around the world. Pig or cattle blood is most often used; sheep and goat blood are used to a lesser extent. Blood from poultry, horses and other animals are used more rarely. Typical fillers include meat, fat, suet, bread, sweet potato, barley and oatmeal.
So I guess that vampires would have a blood pudding for their birthdays?
If you are talking REAL vamps yes i think they do, now if you are talking the vamps of myth i do not know
In muy past life i was Born in 8/25 A.D. My present birthday is 8/25/83........
I don't remember doing anything for my birthday ever!!! So im hoping my next birthday i will with my family in Burning Flames
To my belief, birthdays are celebrated by humans AND vampires, it just depends about what they believe in.
I believe that it just depends on the person. I know many people who refuse to celebrate their birthdays after they reach a certain age. I don't think it matters if they are vampires or humans.
I would say that if they did they should celebrate the day they were turned. They are no longer human and do not age as one. As for celebration who would they invite is my question.
I dont see why they would. Birthdays are for celebrating the birth of someone or something. In the case of a Vampire it would have to be the day they turned as every thing else doesnt exsist anymore
I celebrate my birthday, but honestly I dont even think of it as a birthday, its more like party day where people give me gifts like Im a king or something...its all about the gifts and eating sweets
I don't think they celebrate birthday, but very hard to tell.
I would probably celebrate both. If a vampire likes being a vampire I would say they would be likely to celebrate both depending on how they felt about b-day parties before they were embraced. where as a vampire that didn't like being a vampire would probably either not celebrate either one or only their initial b-day.
I celebrate my birthday, so I think vampires will do the same.
I would have to stick with my human birthday. After all, when you are turned you are awakened, not actually born. But I suppose its all a matter of each person's perception.
.. to answe the question: this one does.
10th November!
[just adding a moment of levity.]
I celebrate mine in the quietest way possible.. Ahh well.. life.. *sighz*
No, I wouldn't like a donor jumping out my cake, I'd prolly kill him in fury for startling me. A surprise party? Ahh well, as long as it doesn't startle me.. I need my peace and balance. The slightest thing sets me off... If you know me, you'd know why...
Well, the best would be I guess when I was a kid.. Can't remember which exactly, but it should be the 5-8th birthdays.. They were awesome, and I was introduced into what we call a "family"... But then, Birthdays are awesome..
*smilez*
i believe that they celebrate the day they become a vampire
I have a hard time remembering mine.... so Im not sure they do. HAHA
In all actuality, some do celebrate their bdays but at the same time, som celebrate the day they were "turned"
Why?
If you are immortal, what possible value would a particular date hold? I believe that as an immortal you would give up the entire concept of annualism.
I think vamps do celebrate their birthday to keep balance with their night and mundane side
Is anyone immortal around here? If so, ask them. Its your best bet on finding this answer out lol
Interesting idea.
As a teenager I thought I was immortal just like most teenagers do. And I celebrated birthdays.
Older now, and much more aware of my mortality, I think birthdays are kind of silly.
Depends on the vampire. Some hold on to what humanity they had others embrace thier rebirth.
it depends on the vampire if they celerbrate their bday- but i would think it would be kinda mundane after the first 100 years....
The day they were born or the day they Turned.
memories only last for so long.
what would be a point to a birthdate after so many years of undeadness.?
i cant see how it would matter to even one of anne rice's tortured vampires.
just my view.
I do not actually claim to be a vampire, however, at the same time, I do not claim to be human. Anyways, the best vampire birthday party I could think of is something like where the demon gets a surprise donor as you say .. but I also think it would be good if the donor also got a treat in return too ... other than that, maybe something like an underground mosh party or something? That would work for me any day ^^
Many believe that vampyres are born that way but do not awaken till the time is right? As many belive that the transgression of the soul is immortal as opposed to the human body that they are currently trapped inside or born into.
I therefore celebrate the day I was born into this world as it is also the day I was born a vampire once again.
I'd love a cake too with a donor exploding our of it veins leaking blood direct into my mouth yum yum
ps I spelt vamp (i) (y) re both ways just to be awkquard
Maybe every century they celebrate instead of every year.
Opinions are as wide as the gulfs that divide us.
Obonewitz is spot on....we carry on what we knew.
Pyschos and those that think they are Godlike do not.
Those with their feet on the ground do...Grinz...
See what I did there...X.
P.s I dont celebrate turning as I was dropped and I am still in a raging fury.
P.P.s ...I know that's chidish...
P.P.s New Years resolution...mmm....Grow Up!
Why would vampiers like to celebrate and party it up. Some in this thread have suggested that the birthday data would be weeded out of relevant information to store in their memory, but after a few hundred years, how could you forget the date? And the idea of every century celebrating... well that is like celebrating ever ten years with a huge massive party and the other 9 in between as smaller affairs. I go back though to my original statement, why would they want to pass over the chance to party?
It sure seems like we have creative types out there. The blood lined pinata, that seems like a given... or maybe its a human pinata...
