Through many different novels and movies You hear the term of pure blood. Some have said vampires only drink "pure blood", as to opposed to tainted blood. What I am currently wondering is if this has any merit such as in the past or present.
Is there such a thing as pure and tainted blood for a vampire?
I think that this is an excellent question. Tainted blood and pure blood are an area where I have no knowledge. I look forward to reading the answers!
After reading your question, I can only imagine that you are refering to mythological vampires. As MrD pointed out, in the land of fiction authors are the ones whose minds create the boundaries of what a vampire is or isnt or how or why they feed. I imagine every author would have atleast a slight variation in what they concieve for feeding. Most of the works I am familiar with, the authors probably don't even recognize a difference between pure blood and tainted.
In the movies and the novels I believe that the blood they are refering to as pure and tainted is the blood of the vampire him/herself, not the blood in which they feed upon. There are "pure blood" vampires who are born a vampire by parents who are also vampires and all before them in their family lines were vampires. The "tainted blood" vampires are those who at some point in time were human and were "turned". And even though one may be born a vampire, they can still be "tainted" because of a member of their family line being "turned". Carpe Noctem
Tainted blood. Tainted means basically polluted. So, those that were obvious in their sickness. In times of middle ages, I believe Pure blood, might have meant those of healthy people, or a reference to those with a little power in them, such as a wizard or witch.
That is just my belief.
i dont believe in that, blood is blood at the end of the day...wether its tained or pure blood...its still blood it might just taste different!
I beleive at a point it meant that teinted was not form the same line, and pure meant from a same line, like the same family of the same master vampire that has choose as a donor for several generation, as teinted means not form the same generation and also at a time was probably a result of an affair in the family line.
This is my two cents
how could human blood differ from human blood? unless of course tainted refers to a sinful person or suchlike. in which case I would think it may make a difference
i don't think there is tainted blood
unless it means blood disorders
I think that is all depends on what sorts of blood we like.
i believe that the word tainted blood come from the plages, but i ma not posative the word tainted blood to me these days means diseased.
i would assume tainted blood woult be diseased, or impure in any way. pure blood seems to me like it would be a vamp and a vamp having a baby and then its pure blood. not mixed. am i makin sense
never heard of that. i've heard of pure and tainted vampires though. pure blood vamps are born as vamps. tainted are the ones who were bitten
Never really delved into that area before, i would only imagine that you are brought to believe that because of the imaginations of the authors being reflected in their writings.....
i believe that the pure bloos are wholly vampires with not a drop of human blood in them. tainted could mean evil or has human blood in them that is how i look at it
If you look at the feeding habits of vampiers then you can assern that when crossing water we can and offten do feed on rats, to keep from being found out.If a meal is tanted with a desiese or not dose not matted, Pure blood refers to royal like people, arristocrats and such,Tainted is that of one with lesser standing
movies, novels, whatever...The only tainted blood would be one with a life threatening disease. Funny, but I can't see a Vampire dying from AIDS.
I would partially agree with Tzaddi, but there is more to tainted blood. I had an AWESOME explanation last night but AGAIN my phone ate my answer, LOL...
To me, as an occasional sanguine feeder, pure blood is that which is free of drugs (legal or otherwise), other like substances (alcohol), and disease as these can not only harm you in some cases but throw off the taste of the blood in others. Tainted blood then, would be the diseased, drugged, and alcohol-soaked blood.
Just a personal opinion.
I'll have to agree with Sacred on this one. It's only in fiction that pure blood and tainted blood really exist. Genetically speaking, of course. :D
Personally, I tend to lean on the way that Sacred is seeing this...but has anyone thaught of the theory of tainted blood...meaning, drugs (presctiption or not, or alcohol and the like?)
certainly, any drugs or alcohol injested would be considered.."tainting the blood"
In my opinion, based on fiction alone; I believe that a 'Pure Blood' Vampire, could mean being a Vampire from birth, being born a Vampire as opposed to being bitten later in life; or without disease or any kind of malformity*.. While on the other hand; 'Tainted Blood' could mean being bitten later and turning from human to Vampire, as opposed to being born a Vampire; or being on drugs or having a disease of some kind..
That's what I think.
I think what is meant by pure blood and tainted blood is that pureblood is meant to signify one specific lineage. Like the Arayans of today believe, if they recieve blood from someone other than their own kind, they consider it "tainted" unpure. It's a euphamism for racism. A way to LABEL those you feel are beneath you.
I had heard of this before several years ago.My awakener claimed to be part lycan, and so he thought his blood tainted. But I always wondered, how one would know for sure.
So from his answer, I was taking it to mean if anyone feels they part vampire and part some other creature. Then there blood is tainted. But never really thought that person lesser or beneath anyone else, just different.
I agree with Fenrir on this, a vampire with two vampiric parents are most likely seen as pure bloods, were as people who have only one parent as a vampire are the lesser, ie tainted
i believe with tainted and pur blood, But all blood is pur at first,
Perhaps it does vampires are said to heightened senses thus would have the ability to detect the slightest difference in ones personal health which would determine them to be "pure blood "or "tainted blood" or perhaps it was speaking of their noble "pure blood" or commoner "tainted blood" in either case it is a possibility of older times. But this is just my personal thought.
I've heard of these terms as well, when it comes to blood. Granted, I myself am not a blood drinker but I am familiar with a few people who are. I partially agree with those who believe that a vampire who's been bitten by a lycan has tainted blood. The reason I don't agree fully is because while being a psi-vamp I still can relate to lycans. (perhaps that was dangerous of me to openly admit? oops! lol)
Are there any specific books that talk about blood types that vamps prefer?
Yes I believe so. I haven't read this in any book, it is simply a commonly known fact amongst the Vampire community.. Most Sang vampires do prefer O-
It's just ANOTHER form of labeling. But we don't look harshly on THESE labels because we (as in the vampire Goth community) find it acceptable. It's a double standard. Oureblood vs "tainted"
Not to long ago, the Arayans called people who were of mixed decent "mud babies" This whole, pure blood vs tainted is BS.
Hollywood, Hollywood , and more Hollywood. We may be vampires, but let's not confuse reality and the movies.
Most common meaning for "pure" and "tainted" in terms of blood is a being born of 100% one thing being "pure" and then a mix of being the "tainted"
IE
From the Harry Potter books a "pure blood" was a a child of a witch and wizard and the "mud blood" or the "tainted" would be a child born of witch/wizard and a human or in the books a "muggle".
Might be a lame example but its the only place I've heard this term other than dog breeding...LOL
I believe that "tainted" refers to those who use the drugs and other things and that "pure" refers to those who are like a child nothing in their blood that would tainted it.
Yup MrD's awesome explanation does it for me.
The term tainted / pure would be whatever the author means it be be. Remember that author's write fiction
In the modern vampire community I would think the real importance is blood that will not do you harm in some way
I think the terms "pure blood" and "tainted blood" only pertain to books and movies. And, maybe some old tales. "Pure Bloods" were those who were born vampires. Born vampires of a pure vampyric bloodline (no turned vampires). "Tainted Bloods" referred to those vampires that were born human and turned vampire. This is all just fictional.
You know, old folklore never mentioned that the drinking of blood could be harmful, if not fatal. Are today's vampire not what they claim to be? Or are they manipulations of Hollywood tales?
in my opinion i think tainted blood can mean anything from alcohol to drugs to food and colosteral, as for pure blood if u think about it...there really is no such thing....
Many on here have said this, but I think it needs repeating. What is read in books and seen in the movies is purely fictional and has little or nothing to do with those who live the vampire lifestyle in real life.
I do not think there is such a thing as pureblood. Tainted blood could mean a variety of things. I think what blood a person would drink is up to the individual person doing the drinking.
i do not believe there is a difference in reality but in the hollywood sense anything is possible of course
Yes I understand that whats fiction is fiction, I had asked about the quality of blood, Just wondering.
now as far as I've seen most everyone can agree on the fact blood is blood, depending on the donor and the vampire feeding.
a pureblood is a noble vampyr and a tainted blood means human or other hybryd however there are some who are born vampyr and these are the fullbloods but it makes no difference whether you are fullblood or halfblood all vampyre have the same rights in their community as do all people. thats my opinion.
Usually, those terms do apply to fiction, but sometimes even the most far fetched things can have a little truth to them.
Apure blood would refer to a pure soul, a soul of someone whom has not sinned.
Tainted blood could refer to someone whom injects drugs into their blood stream, or to a sinful person.
These are of course, gathered from fiction, but fiction is all that is left in a world gone mad.
I believe there is a diffrence to me the diffrence can be thought of as sickness but its anyone that puts unpure stuff in their body.... in other words people that live un healthy lives will end up with tainted blood... everything we put in our body ends up in our blood wether it be drugs or bad food... its makes your blood taste diffrent and makes feeding off it diffrent
I thought tainted blood is blood from a dead person ? And pure blood was from a living person...
pure blood are born and tainted are turned fictionally speaking of course
i think there is pure and tainted blood its just that its a vampires decision to choose which one to drink
i dont believe i can answer your question, i can say that vsmpires can drink tainted blood but it doesnt do much for them it is repolsive to them, or at least thats what i hear.
i think now adays if there were a living vampire. i doubt there could me a vampire that is pure blooded... but thats just me
Pure blood i think is untouched by anyone except you and tainted blood has been touched in some way or another by someone.
i agree. i don't thinks there's much difference how we feed, as long as we feed.
Too many posts to read so I'm not sure what everyone said but I hear this often from Eastern Europeans that talk of old houses and family lines. Supposedly there is a European Council that goes back to the fourteenth century. They speak of Nobility and the royal bloodlines. I think here they mean others out of these old world lines and in novels and movies it could mean just about anything the author wanted it to. I personally don't follow this line of thought but if there are those that want to pay homage to this that is fine. I don't relate to this as I was born in the US which isn't a very old country in comparison to all of Europe.
only place i have heard of that pure blood tainted thing is in movies and even thing is never the same thing twice in a row so i really dont thing is real
Pure blood vs tainted blood could be correlated to what psychic vampires would term pure energy vs tainted energy.
Simply put, there are those that one would happily take energy from and there are those that are less favorable for a variety of reasons. For each vampire, that reason may be different.
In terms of the blood, tainted could simply mean contaminated blood. Or it could be blood type, or it could be specific by gender. Those are just a few examples of how what is tainted blood to one is pure blood to another.
In terms of vampire myth and lore, it was considered that a woman's blood was unclean during menstruation. I would think it goes back to many old religious beliefs that the blood of certain individuals was considered unclean while the blood of others was considered pure.
I don't think it really carries a modern reference other than that blood consumption is a very dangerous thing if one isn't aware of that individual's possible diseases, etc.
i would have to persume that pure blood would come from a healthy person as to aposed that tainted blood most likely comes from a sick or ill person....
yes there is ...a pure blood vampire is not tainted with other races..and the other kind is tainted with other races..
Ayana,
I need you to clarify what you are saying here.
Is it that you think a vampire is a 'race' of its own?
If so, what 'other races' might a vampire breed with, in your opinion?
I understand what the novels and movies say.....but it would seem to be somewhat of a hypocrisy don't you think, since most novels and movies have vampires feeding on the lesser souls....prostitutes, destitute (homeless etc.), feeble.....or even animals.
wow what an exciting read!
Pure Blood vs. Tainted
my belief would be that pure blood being a blood line that never detured from a chosen path. A line that could be traced back through out the ages.
Tainted would be a line that was broken or fused
I dont think there is such a thing as pure blood anymore since everyones body is polluted by our surroundings
well i dont know if it relates to a vampire but u would have to say that true and tainted blood exist. for example there is AIDS and other blood related deseases. PPL who use needles to inject themselves this goes into the blood even tattoos, these all effect the blood so pure blood is ppl who dont have or do any of these and these are a form of tainted blood
Its something that everyone can form their own opinion of. Pure blood could mean the blood of an innocent person, like a child, it could mean the blood of a healthy person. I guess it all depends on the person.
I agree with my coven mates.. pure blood is a vampire that was born a vamipire and tainted is human who was turned. That is alway what I have heard. I have never heard anything other than that, but the other answers on this thread are very interesting.
I am pretty sure that tainted blood comes from dead bodies and if a vampire drinks from a dead body then he is not getting the bodys energy...
I agee that this is more a mythological area than an actual vampire feeding habit.
There seem to be many different depictions of pure and tainted blood. Each depiction having a meaning for a different opinion. I do not believe myself a vampire, for I believe Vampirism began with a rare illness called Porphyria, although I do consume blood for sexual gratification. Personally, I'm a sado-masochist, but that's another story. At any rate, my view on pure and tainted blood is simple, really. Pure blood flows from a wound. Tainted blood could be anything along the lines of menstrual blood, or any form of blood with outside substances. I realise that people are going to not agree with me, but that's just tough luck and I honestly couldn't give a shit. x)
my veiw on the whole "tainted blood v.s pure blood" is tainted blood could be any blood diseases in general and pure blood would be people with healthy blood ... thats my point of veiw on it anyways
I would think pure and tainted along the lines of healthy and sick blood
It matters in the socity of vampires because that is what gives you your status, just like name and money in human civilization
