an idea once occurred to me. supposing we only experience frames of reality. you know how a film works - we view one frame after another in quick succession, each frame being slightly one step ahead, and we view it as fluid movement, but it's not really fluid movement, but lots of still pictures.

well maybe reality is a bit like that - there are lots of frames of reality which are slight variations of each other, and we experience them one at a time in quick succession.

then something else occurred to me. what if we skip frames sometimes? what if there are frames we never experience? maybe everything has an existence frequency, and we only experience, say every tenth frame?

what is in those frames we dont experience? what if sometimes we slip a frame or two and see what is in the frames we dont normally see?

there could be other realities existing between our realities. and maybe, what we call the supernatural is glimpses at the other realities when we accidentally experience theirs, or they slip into ours.

It is true that there are plenty of things that we are not able of realizing by using our senses. As mere examples, we know that there are colours we can't see and sounds we can't hear. Thus, there must be more things -even a whole world- which we can not realize at all. We only get an overall picture of the world around us.

Umm i didn't understand when you wrote that life may be a series of frame..How can that be?What do you think might be controlling it?I didn't understand how can you compare the two?

So in principle you're warming up Plato's idea of shadows seen on the wall?
Or where are the differences?

yea, shadows int he wall.

things we can not see, or hear or sense but know there there.

maybe ghosts are one...and only certain ones can be seen to make us realize there is another world, an unseen world.

Thinks this has to do with the different planes of existance and they are all combined but we are only able to see what it is we are allowed to see or can You imagine if they all became oneor we could travel one to another .. would be interesting

what i mean is reality is not something that is ever-changing. everything is fixed, but there are an infinite number of reality frames, each one slightly different - a progression from the one next to it. it is not reality that changes, but our consciousness as it moves from one reality to the next.

I don't really understand how you can say that everything is fixed as I feel that by having these frames you can decide which ones you want to be in...so by doing this they are not fixed.

I was on a bike a long time ago, going about 120mph and I saw a car on the other side of the road, at that point the sun blinded me and I couldn't see where I was going. I heard the horn blare but it was to late to try to get out of the way. I heard impact and visualised myself the bike and passenger dead and wrecked. Just for a split second it seemed like time had frozen and Wham I'm back on the bike all is fine but I had a brown stain in my pants. (I felt loss and sadness all day afterwards)

So just maybe then my conscious jumped from one frame to a different one. Or it didn't happen! I honestly feel that it did though.

These frames of existence would fork into many as we make decisions no matter how small. These could be the basis of alternate existences that we cannot experience as we as one being exist in more than one existence.

I like this.

The movie / documentary, "What the Bleep do We Know," has a little blurb about a camera or our eyes seeing more than our brain or the person behind the camera at the time can see.

It doesn't matter if you like/dislike agree/disagree with the film this little bit from it makes pretty good sense.

Have you ever taken a picture you thought was going to be near perfect, only to spot a dog urinating on a fire hydrant in the background? (I am sure you get my drift.)

I can see how reality might be quite similar.

I believe that there is a lot we don't understand. Science as far as we have come is still very limited in it's explanations of our existance. I don't however believe that there are other realities and I don't think that this reality is fixed. I don't think that is what life is about. It is a very interesting theory though. One more thing for me to think about when I am looking at the stars.

So if life, and therefore death, are frames of reality, and as you say, we only experience a few of them, then our existance is a source of endless possibilities. Reality is; it doesn't change, but our perception of it does based on experiences, beliefs, and prejudices. Your reality may be much different than mine, though we share similar backgrounds, based on the way we have processed those experiences in our minds.
Is it really a shame that we will never know? I don't thinks so. Sometimes the question is much more profound than the answer can ever be; and the search for truth more provocative than the truth itself.

If life is presented in frames, then maybe that could account for the different experiences people have. The other frames could be flashes of time in non-chronological order, which could explain why some people experience premonitions, or maybe flashes of the planes in which the dead reside, which could also account for why some people see the dead.

Who really knows? But it is an interesting thought.

It's a really intersting theory. Of course then it would seem we have free will for nothing if we have no choice in the matter and everything is fixed. It is an interesting theory though.

I don't think we have to give up the concept of freewill. With practice we can still affect the frames that we see.

The frames may be fixed in your theory, but reality sure isn't. And it can't be reduced down to one quantifier: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual because they all matter, the sum of which is perception, and is totally individual.

Einstein thought it could. many scientists believe that there is one unifying principle that can tie up everything. is the universe a gestalt?

part of me thinks this is too simplistic - then again, maybe reality is so simple that it eludes us.

There are a lot of things that we are "not meant to know and understand" because people and the Government tell us so. They cannot tell us what we can and cannot think because it is our mind not theres. But, i have thought that my life is a movie all the time. sometimes I wish it would just hurry up and end and others I just cannot wait to see what happens next. We see and hear things that we just cannot explain to other people because they will not understand, think we are crazy, and try to get us professional help. Life is not a dress rehersal, it is the real thing. We need to see what is really out there in life. People always say that certain things cannot be real or true just because. What if they are real and true they just do not want us to know because they are afriad? We should try out this thery.

When reading the original post it made me think of deja-vu as merely a glitch in reality perhaps.
Alternate realities & planes of existance can co-exist meaning that we can only see what our minds can handle upon seeing. Some people can handle more planes but the mass cannot therefore we are limited as to the aspects we all can see.

what a interesting thought. I sometimes wonder this same thing... only i always looked at it from a time travel perspective. I do suppose its possible to miss out on certain frames of life... many ppl have blackouts... many ppl have outer body experiences. all of these things alter our perception on the natural flow of life.

Karn--Your actually rather correct. The universe is created and destroyed every few millionths of a second (the real time is not fully known) each progressive "new" universe rides the wave of destruction from the last universe thus procreating itself in an ever growing and continous stream of both space and time and reality. The number of "frames' is finite for infinity is actually rather limited and does not expand beyond human consciousness for without obeservation or thought nothing truly exists.
I hope this helps :)

Carvall--The theory has its origins from many others in the scientific field however it is my main area of research.
It is the foundation of Dot Theory which is my answer to both string and morphic-field theories.

Anyway, due to this ever changing universe we do indeed have a simigly infinite number of possiblilities and infact universes, however what keeps the numbers down and this universe in linier time is the feed back of the higher diminsions and actually thought itself. Because I, and you and many others know that we exist on earth, earth remains relativily the same where as via quantum entanglement it is possible that a random star is being fundamentaly changed based upon the actions of an ant here on earth. As radical as that sounds many in physics and mathimatics support this notion.

Hi karn,

I've vagely heard of this theory and it might be possible, after all it could explain deja vu, pre-cog flashes etc , also i don't think it would mean your destiny is preset because of it, after all from one single point in reality and space/time you have an infite possible outcomes depending on your decsion from that singular moment.

Sorry for the jargen :)
If I may I want to touch on the topic of deja vu which Ive seen mentioned a few times here. We now think we know why it happens and if I recall correctly Yahoo news did an article on it a while back as well.
Deja Vu as we all know is the feeling that we have been in a place or done something before but we never remember it until we are "doing" it again.

Time is of course made up of the past, present and future and they all flow in a relativily straight line however the present doesnt actually exist it is only the transition from the past into the future which occurs faster than the universe is created/destroyed sometimes there is what could be called a bleed through effect where the future happens before we actually live through it/ before it should. So by the time we do something or go somewhere that period of time has passed thus giving us the feeling of Deja Vu.

There is a somewhat simpler explination as well which competes with the first one and that is simply we think (consciouness happens) before we perceive time so we think we did something slightly before we do something. In a sense like thinking about what we are going to say or write, only faster.

some people are more prone to deja vu than others. its a sort of short circuit in the brain where experiences are somehow sent to the long term memory before going to the short term memory. it's not supposed to happen that way, but believe me, those who do suffer from this sort of memory problem get it a lot.

I really like that idea. Never thought about it as a frame of reality, but I understand what you mean. It's like needed special glasses at a movie theater if you want to see in 3D. Only those willing to experience it will see it. So only those who want to think about alternate realities, will be the ones who will eventually see them.
