Ok, so i was on a bus yesterday and i was thinking, because thats what people do on busses O.o Anyway, i was thinking about the dreams i had, where i knew the area i was in, but things where different, sometimes on a small scale, sometimes on a large. It got me thinking, Can dreams connect you to an Alternate Universe?
Ive had dreams of being heaven (very recent) Dreams of being in a desert to see a family member. Flying dreams, Dying at the hands of a surgeon (Excuse spelling) , who was murdering me and this other hawt guy i didnt know.
So yeah, What you think? Do our minds connect us to an alternate universe? Is that where we get out guidence by compareing how things Could be?
*Gives her cold to everyone* Hehe
*Achoooooo* Tanks for da colde...
I do believe this is plausable, I see no reason otherwise...I have had the same dream many differant times, it is always the same dream, but it goes on as I dream about it more. Like that of a future even waiting to happen. If this would be an alternate reality for me, I would very much welcome such reality. As I think most others would as well...Their own realities, lol.
the native americans *seneca tribe*...say that life is the dream before the awakening....sure its possible....has anyone ever had the same dream someone else had the same night?....that might be the proof.
I have read that some dreams are to guide you towards making that dream reality.
In NAI culture , dreamers are cherished.
Especially those who could understand their dreams and walk the path towards acheiving them.
I like thinking of dreams in that fashion -- alternative universe possibilities or realities.
From a psychological stand point dreams are just your mind reacting to the things you've done or if anything is weighing (spelling?) on your mind it gives a chance to break it down and work through it..... but then there are those dreams I don't think stand in the scope of psycology. The ones that the previous posters put on here or the original poster of the thread... I think these are evidence of the possibility of alternate things, whether it be a universe or just a world there is truth/proof in dreams that don't make sense. The ones that take you somewhere you've never seen, heard, or even been to and you know everything about it cause you live there when your not awake..... course I also believe in past lives and that plays a part in things but that's more for guidence purposes than anything else.....
This topic reminds me of the TV show Sliders.. I would like to think there are alternate Universes, but I have never had any expierence with it.. No dreams that I can recall of..
Anything's possible. But don't also discount the fact that dreams are flights of fantasy. When your brain creates fantatical things and you get to experience them as if they were real. Not everything has to have a supernatural basis. Some things are just weird because they can be, because it's fun, because it injects a little insanity into every day life.
I don't believe this to be true; dreams can be many things, but to lead to alternate universes is too much.
I feel that it would take much more energy to discover and enter alternate universes, dreams don't give off that much energy
I believe that dreams are a physiological / phycological phenomena that the mind and body require of "daily mantenance". Wether to store memories, "digest" the thoughts and actions of the day, or simply to let the mind wander.
While I believe in the possibility of parallel existances, I do not think that dreams connect us to those seperate realities.
i believe this very much. but htey also connect us to our own self in a deeper sense. whether it be logical sense or nonsense lol
*covers face* i dont need a cold
but i think that it is possible. So many things happen when we dream, I dont see why it could not take us to another place. There is alot more out there that we dont know about.
i think its very possible for a dream to be linked to another universe. it happned to me all the time i just didnt realze what it was unitl i came to this website :)
i do thinks it is very possible and plausable, our minds are yet to develop and be researched of all its power. to dream or out of body experiences have been put out as fiction but i believe them to be true facts of alternative planes.
I've long believed in alternate universes and held that dreams can be quite powerful, but have never connected the two. I would suppose it is plausible for the unconscious mind to be used as a sort of gateway for the spirit.
Like with near death and out of body experiences.
To pharphrase Vonegut, There is enough space in this universe for everyone to have an opinion about how it works and still be right :)
I believe that peoples dreams can come true. I've had dreams about family dying and getting into accidents and every time i do they end up coming true. so some dreams are your mind fore warning you of what is going to happen shortly
i believe so yes i believe that one can choose to believe what they choose as thier reality and how they want to live it .
I wouldnt say an alternate universe or plane. Just a different view point of your mind.
A place where everything can be seen on a arger scale, or in more detail. The sequence of life can be altered and problems, situations and events can be played out differently and handled with more precision.
Our brain is crushed into a tiny space. But the minds spectrum and depth is immeasurable.
DUH of course there are alternate planes, universes, astral, and timelines.Sometimes they overlap. As a shaman and Deathwalker I have seen them actually travel al of the above.
An alternative reality is a fact. If you are interested read Carlos Castenada, he has some very interesting travels he writes about in his books re "dreaming" and alternative realities.
Alternate realities and parallel universes may exist, but most of us have yet to master the one we are in. A part of mastery is growth, and you grow progressively. To seek the stars is commendable but you must know the earth first. Without your roots you cannot grow.
*laughs*
been messing around past the gates of horn, have we?
anyway, there are other realms, and dreaming is the same as sending your mind/spirit or soul through the gates of ivory.
going through the gates of horn, however, can give you insight of things to come, show you things that have happened, or things that were supposed to happen.
*sniffle*
thanks for the cold
Dreams can connect to an alternate universe or another deminsion I believe they sometimes are a forwarning of things to happen in reality though
~Shadowdancer~
i had that kind of dream a couple of times. and i think its very possible for us to connect to an alternate reality since the mind is a very powerful tool. its power is immeasurable.
a dream can also be an obe (outer body experience) but you percieve it as a dream
Lucid dreaming also takes you to places and spaces where you are surrounded by things you love and enjoy. Occasionally you may meet someone you know in lucid dreaming and its their surroundings.
OBEs are also a plausible possibility.
Most people have enough problems with this universe, much less alternate ones; only the strong of mind can handle the alternates
Lovecraft wrote a lot of fiction with the idea that dreams are glimpses of alternate realities. The only problem with that idea, the dark things in nightmares may be just as real as the pleasant stuff from dreams.
I think this is a really good thread, I mean if you look at all the other possibilities astral projection... past life regression even being hypnotized all things are connected and i truly believe that they are threw are dreams.
well this is an interesting thread I mean to dream can we not go to any plane of existance we choose? after all it is a dream and from our subscience realm.
I very much so believe that this could happen...our minds still hold many secrets that have yet to be discovered...so to I will not dismiss this theory
While on the topic of dreams (I know this prob. isn't true for everyone), but is it most folks, like me, never actually die in dreams? We come close, we know it's going to happen and then....
We wake up....
If this is possible in dreams why not in reality...which part of our lives really is "The dream state?"
Our subconcious is probably the alternate Universe, yeah I see the sub concious as an alternate Universe.
If there is really an Alternate Universe,I know,I won't ignore it's possibilit and I don't ignore the possibility of OBE 's either.
And yeah which one is the reality? That's a good question too.
HollowXAngel, I agree with you, love, but again, I think only the strong of mind can achieve this *smiling*
i think that they show what we want or most desire and use things from our memory. for ex. loved ones or parts from books we read
It's very possible, there is still so much that we don't know about the brain.
I believe that our dreams are one thing and an alternate universe is something different entirely.
There are spiritual realms/universes and so forth and I think that we can experience them in our sleep if our spirit chooses to leave our body temporarely. To us this may feel like a dream but it is usually called and out of body experience.

i think we all can see into the futrue on some small scale i have had dreams that have come true but not so big that to make a big deal out of it or maybe my way of wish for something and it just came true maybe deep in our minds we may be able?????
the possibilities are ENDLESS to discredit theories is way different than disproving them, even if by trying to prove them you end up disproving them. but to simply dismiss something as absurd for no reason, well that will not do. so i say to you:
if you watch the movie donnie darko,it talks about a thing called a "tangent universe"and thats were a dream can connect you to an alternate version of the future
like lets say a dream says -your gona get hit by a red car..
but the next day -you get hit by a blue car
its like that...
I don't believe that it's an alternate universe. There are several threads dealing with the universe, and I still hold that if you consider the actual definition of "universe" - the root of "universal" meaning all encompassing - to have something as an alternative would be possible. If that's the case then what you're experiencing would be coming from this universe.
I feel very strongly that all of existence is connected by a bond of energy (a theory which I won't go into right now) and as a result we have access to all the knowledge in existence. The problem is learning how to access that knowledge.
Clarification on my above post - to have an alternative to a universe is IM-possible. My bad.
I don’t believe that our dreams are connecting us to an alternate universe. I think since we are sleeping and dreams are just uncontrolled electric pulses and subconscious thoughts things are just obscure. Not an alternate universe though.
I think it's possible but unlikely. I think what we are scared of, or worried about come out in dreams.
i think that it may be a possibility but i dont know if it is a reality or not.
Well, now I kind of wish I were Sigmund Freud. alas, I'm just Romy.
I think dreams are just the reflections of our conscious and subconscious thought.
Of course, Freud was from a scientific standpoint.
Perhaps.. no, actually. I can't think of anything more imaginative. =/
There is a thing called dream walking where the person can move about in others dreams I see no reason why this could not also allow someone to move between alternate plains.
I don't see why it isn't possible. I know that I've had dreams that seem very real, only something about it wasn't quite right, and I'm never able to figure out what....O.o
There really is no way to know for sure, but the idea has been covered.
My favorite application of this idea is in Neil Gaimen's Sandman series, where Morpheous's dream world is an alternate, but real realm that has attachments to space, reality, and time.
it could be possible, ive been reunited wit hdead family members in my dreams before, i even saw my son in a dream 3 months before my GF got pregnant.. i do often find myself dreaming of things that coul have been, life, love, prosperity..our soul may travel from our body and go to different planes of existence when we sleep, accounting for the fact that when you dream about the same thing a few nights in a row it is always different. the soul forgot wich plane it was on..
don't know two much about dream connecting with alternate realities. But, I do 'see' alternate timetimes.. possible futures, that haven't happened.
As I said in another thread for every decision we make here in another universe or dimension we choose another .
I'm not too sure about this because it could just be your mind wandering. But there are also many things that we do not understand about our brain and when we sleep. I believe it might be possible because as Legendary stated, it could be like having an out of body experience or near death experience.
I've actually had some dreams where it seemed that it could've been another place. I recognized it but little details were different. I've had a dream where I was in my house but everything was the opposite, but my family was there.... It was just so strange because I was consciously wandering around and making notes of what was different and was even curious to see what else could be different...
I believe in the psychological aspect of dreaming but sometimes you just have a feeling.
I'd say I believe it could be either way. Whether psychological or actual visits into your past lives, the past or the future, or even alternate universes. I've had so many weird dreams that it's not fair to rule out one or the other... In the end, no one really knows what could be true. I'm open to all ideas. :]
I believe it's possible . Any thing is possible no one knows exactly how the universe and and time chain works. I do however believe in alternate reality and univerase . And dreams do have alot to be studied about
See, I fully think there are such things as Alternate Universes. Just a slight change in the way of the past changes outcomes forever in future. The further we get from the slight change, the less likely hood of us connecting to the alternate universe. For example did Vampires actually come from an Alternate Universe? Did a little tweak in mankind's development cause a change in Vampires? Then the question is how do they /we get from Universe to another?
My research has led me to believe that dreams are the key to transporting ourselves to different worlds, and even alternate universes where we as ourselves, are still alive in that universe.
Oh yeah. I am a very, very firm believer in the power of the mind. Our minds does all sorts of weird shit. I know that if I can dream as elaborately as I do, create these worlds around me as I sleep, and I don't even use close to 100% of my brain consciously, then I think the mind can do anything.
*sneezes and coughs*
thanks for the cold -_-
NewDeathSensation, I have a friend that is a dreamwalker, and he visits me in dreams quite often. His and my connection is such a strong one, and I believe that's why it is possible, cuz we are both so strong mentally
I would love to think that dreams are gateways, since I have met some incredible people in my dreams. The idea that they might be in the world somewhere makes me happy.
A dream is usually something like an imagination...you make things in your own mind..maybe you dream of the last thing you were thinking about, maybe you dream of a movie you last saw and put yourself in it, or maybe you dream of things you have read or heard about.
A dream is just a thought...in my opinion.
it would make very good sense to me that they are an alternate universe i have mentioned before that me, my sister, and a friend all had dream that my daughter died but different segments i seen her die my sister seen the funeral planning and my friend seen the funeral this all occured on the same night what i have not mentioned is none of us have had any dreams of her since so maybe she is dead in a alternate universe
i sometimes have violent dreams and im glad my mind dont connect with others or id be in prison probley for murder
I dont see why it would not be impossible for us to connect to an alternate reality when we dream
I believe it has to be possible. I've dreamed of doing things I've never actually done before and when I finally did them in my waking life it felt just like it did in my dream. How could your mind simulate something or how something feels in a dream if you hadn't done it before in your life.
When you dream you can also be astral projecting, it is sometimes hard to tell the difference unless you actually practice astral projection.
If you look at it this way I suppose you could link the two together.
A dream is an alternate universe in itself, if you think about it. We do things, think things that we would never consider doing or speaking aloud. In our sleep our minds wonder to parts of past experiences, things we push down and try to forget. Its almost the same with flashbacks, you're still in the same place but it feels like you've either gone back in time or just completely been wiped off the face of the earth.
It might not be an alternate universe but just an alternate way of thinking... ever notice how some of our very best ideas come to us while sleeping or right after you've woken up? But then you just happen to forget (no matter how hard you try) unless you write them down.
*Ramble ramble*
I'd say it's very likely. Maybe not all dreams are in an alternate universe, but I think some of them could be. Perhaps that's how some dreams turn out to be prophetic?
I think it could likely be possible if one chooses first to believe in an alternate world or previous lives. I haven't decided what exactly I believe about those and am in no hurry. I doubt, however, that one would have such dreams or connections very often and if they were very receptive to them, then they probably are receptive to more as well.
Sounds like many things. Alt. universe also a smack of past life.
There are many planes, dimensions if you prefer, which are lapped over one another, and therefore there are probably a great many ways that this fabric dividing them can be breached. Probably dreams may achieve this for us and also vice versa.
there are other plains or dimensions which are parallel to ours. In those dimensions we can find the phenomena that sometimes other people have post here, like spirits, ghosts and such.
Thing is that sometimes, at some point, we can see those entities here... but yes, there are other parallel dimensions...
Thats an interesting theory but I don't feel that our dreams are connecting us to an alternative universe. Our dreams are just images and emotions that feel real while we are asleep and although I feel we can learn a lot from our dreams I am not sure if I believe in an "alternative" universe.
I think it could be possible, the mind is always running and working. Our subconsiouse is something that I find interesting. Im sure there is a way that was go to an alternate universe when we sleep.
I think that dreams play an important part in solving problems in everyday life. There are a lot of metaphors for dreams and their meaning. I think that it is up to the individual that had the dream to determine what it means to them.
I also think that people can leave residule dream activity brain waves on things that they touch. This is one of the facets of ESP, like when someone holds something that someone else owned and can tell or know things about that individual. I have to carry my own pillow with me when I travel because if I sleep on any other pillows I have some totally off-the-wall dreams that I don't normally have. I have alot of those stories!
There may be some truth to this. I have had some of the same differences in my dreams. where things are not quite right but all n all it is a theory one that may never be proved .
I believe that all dreams are a look into an alternate universe. Every choice we can make and every possability whether normal or supernatural creates an alternate universe.
My alternate and parallel universe theory. Parallel universes, is a universe that has a basic change in genetic or a specific difference in form from any other universe. For example works of literature that could be true under my Parallel universe theory, His Dark Materials Series, Narnian Chronicles, Full Metal Alchemist, etc… Alternate Universes, are off shoots of our own and other universes. These fall under chance and luck situations. An example of this, if someone is rolling a 6 sided die, the chance that it will come up 6 is 1/6, and then there will be 6 different alternate universes. Examples of this theory are Back to the Future I, II, and III. Same thing goes for the other parallel universes.
Now, if you sleep walk or talk during your sleep at all, there is a small chance one of your alternate universe’s mind is controlling your body for a short while, and you controlling its mind for a little bit as well.
If there are "alternate universes" I wouldn't be surprised if dreams were the vehicle in which to traverse them.
I would say no. Dreams are our subconscious mind's way of expressing itself.
Ah true, but perhaps the subconscious is a link to the alternate universe and the brain uses sleep to work out the link?
Well, in order to believe that, I would have to believe in alternate universes, which I don't.
Or maybe the subconscious is the alternate universe and our minds are not evolved enough to comprehend such things.
Now that seems truly ridiculous to me. You're implying that the alternate universe exists in what we thought was our subconscious? Sure it does, it's called our imagination! :P
As ridiculous as it may sound, yes. Very much like the movie the Matrix.
No, I don't believe there is any truth to that movie, but in this dialogue it fits.
Howver, in the movie, the individuals were "living" a lie. They were asleep the whole time in this "universe" while their conscious mind believed it true. However when they were awakened, the world they lived in was nothing more than a lie, a figment of their imagination.
Exactly my point, it wasn't an alternate universe, it was simply their imaginations. Sure, it may seem like it's real while it's happening, but when you wake up, you know it's not.
Dreams are simply your mind working through things, showing you paths you should take in life, etc. I don't believe they are nothing to do with other realities or things like that.
i beleve that our dreams are preceptions of reality and how it can be,or how it will never be.dreaqms are a study that most people are still working on to decide what they actually are.this is just my oppinion so i very well may be wrong,if so i do not care as it is my oppinion
I believe that dreams are a way to help you connect with your subconscious mind. Most of the time, if you dream of another person, the other individual usually represents a part of your personality. But also, I think it is possible to dream walk, or travel to other realms with your astral body. You can visit family members, friends, or anyone else who is able to dream walk.
I believe that dreams can connect you with alternate universes/realities. In dream state you are more open to acceptance of such things. Try reading Carlos Castaneda, he speaks of such things in his books.
I have had such dreams that induce deja vu. It only makes sense that the dream world is a world all in its own. That one has a completly different mentality and separate memories. That would explain why you can only remember your dreams when you are half awake or you when you wake up in the middle of a dream.
