Was just kind of curious as to what the first horror movie that you saw made you like horror movies. For me I think it started with Jaws back in 1975, was very young and saw it at a drive-in. From there been getting demented ever since *evil little grin* But later on with the make-up and special effects in horror flicks kinda brought my fascination to a new level trying to figure out how they did certain effects and trying to duplicate them myself.
(good thread)
Believe it or not? I was four...watched..Nightmare on Elm street and (double plus bonus) Jason (vorhees)
scared the crap out of me...
NOW?
I scare the crap out of Freddy and Jason
hehehehe!
Jaws and Stephen King's The Shining. I was very young and The Shining really freaked me out. LOL
I saw a bad B horror flick with my folks at the drive-in. It was an Amityville ripoff called The Evil. I was pretty young. Six, maybe? I remember seeing a "dead" person with his eyes open. That freaked me out.
First movie I had nightmares about was the original King Kong. I was about 4.
mine was IT the frekin clown.... and shit..... it scared me so bad i could not go to the sink for days... it is freaky....
Lets see the first horror movie I ever seen was poltergiest. I hid behind the chair most of the movie.. Until I seen her throw up that worm. Yip I ran hard and fast to the bathroom. Yip I yacked lol... but I was a trooper and still watched the movie
the first horror movie I ever saw was the exocist its scared the hell out of me.
Jaws was a scary one for me, too since I, too was rather young. But, I had no nightmares from it since I live nowhere near an ocean.
The first horror flick I saw that actually caused me to have nightmares was the original texas chainsaw masacre. That one seemed more feasible and so realistic to me when I was a preteen and saw that with my friends.
My first Horror movie was Evil Dead 2. it was just incredible and hooked me on horror movies for life.
My first horror movie (If you can call it that) was Gremlins - I was 7 or 8 at the time and it scared the hell out of me.
But I don't consider this a real horror movie.
....-_-'... it was that lil sh*t Chucky, Big sister terrorized me with him so much that i am still scared of it today.... *trembles* ugh i hate that lil doll.
jaws TOO scared me! I didn't go swimming for awhile! LOL!
:P
Chucky was my first horror. Now I love horror films. Like the classics: Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Candyman, Childspaly, and all the new stuff is improving in quality, not story plotting. Which sucks. Never was really a big fan on Jaws though.
The Wizard of Oz!!!!!!!!!!!! It was so scary to me when I was like 5, the Witch and those monkey things! Scary Stuff
Well, my first actuall horror movie was Fright night, I switched over from another channel one day I was home alone... And there he was, with TEETH...
But, as a sidenote I have to say that the first time I was when I saw ET... When Elliot and ET met in the cornfield and ET strechted up his head.... I tell you! Screaming like a woman is a very masculin term for my reaction!!!!
hehe speaking of chuckie. I have one of those my buddy dolls. If you put a tape in the back its mouth eyes and head movies. NOW that is some scary crap.
The first horror movie I ever saw was Stephen King's Silver Bullet. It was 80's and very cheesy, but still managed to give me nightmares for a week. I'm not sure if it was the movie or Gary Busy that gave me the creeps...
I believe my first horror was annie sweet annie now that scared the s**t out off me I still have not yet finished watching it !!
I don't remember my first horror movie...Bless the Child, I think. But, I do remember the first movie I was told not to watch because "it would be too scary": Beetlejuice. Haha, funny how I love that movie now, though.
Mine was Night of the Living Dead (the original), I was about 4 years old. I was unable to sleep for a week. I find horror flicks funny now days.
^ I usually find horror movies funny, too.
But, for some reason...The Grudge got to me. :| I still can't really sleep if I think about it too much (I have an overactive imagination as it is, so I end up scaring myself anyway). I have weird reactions so scary things, though...because in the movie theatre, watching The Grudge, I started laughing hysterically, but at the same time, my eyes were beginning to water (not because of the laughing)...does that happen to anyone else when they're scared or am I just weird? lol
nightmare on elm street was my first.
friday the 13th(+50,000 more) and halloween didn't do crap for me. i thought they were dumb. freddy on the other hand scared the crap outta me.
these days it's really hard to find a truly scary movie. i haven't seen anything that scares me quite as much as my first horror flick.
HEY FOR ME THE FIRST HORROR MOVIE I SAW WAS LEPERCHAUN I THINK ITS THE FIRST ONE NONE OF THE IN THE HOOD BULLSHIT. IT WAS SCARRY.......THEN AGAIN I WAS LIKE EIGHT YEARS OLD. IT WAS AT A DRIVE-IN I WENT TO SEE IT WITH MY PARENTS AND IT WAS FUNNY TOO BECAUSE WE WENT TO GET POPCORN AND SINCE I MISSED PART OF THE MOVIE AND I WAS EIGHT I REPEAT EIGHT I ASKED IF THEY COULD REWIND IT....THATS HOW MUCH I LIKED IT.
the first horror movie that i can recall watching was IT. It affected me so much that 'til this day, I am still deathly afraid of clowns.
My first horror movie was Jaws. I was 5 years old. My Dad took me to see it at an indoor theatre. I was under his seat begging to go home about half way through the movie *ha ha*, remember I was only 5. But I have loved them ever since. The second horror movie I remember was Amittyville Horror, the original. We saw it at the drive in. A friend walked up to my window during the movie and scared me to death **grins**. But I got him back. Man revenge is sweet.
Haha...I love IT. I didn't get to see it until I was in 8th grade, but when I was watching it, I just kept laughing...especially when IT's teeth grew all big and scary-like. lol. The only part that seemed a bit creepy to me was the beginning when he just kind of appears behind that sheet.
It was 'Nightmare on the Elm street'
and yes; it was so scary then, but now Freddy is my favourite horror character.
and as a kid I was deathly afraid of werewolfs; I thought that I'll become one.. Sick child's mind =)
I think it would have to be the Nightmare on Elm St. series
I remember seeing an old old movie or was it a remake of the, "Stepford Wifes" I was totally grossed out and sat horrified at the submissive woman, baking cakes, having tea-parties, and moaning out as their husbands bedded them, You are the King, You are the King!"
Gosh I thought... is this really what life is going to be like when I am woman? *shudders* happily it was not! but I was horrified at the time contemplating that it would be, does that count?
What?
I am *not* the only one who was frightened of E.T. in his early childhood ???
*yes!* :p
But my first "real Horror Movie" was Chuckie I guess; but I´m not sure.
I think it was mid 80's and i think i was
like 5.
My parents were in bed so i snuck
downstairs and watched this movie that
they wouldn't let my sisters or i watch.
It was George A Romero's 1979 classic
Dawn of the Dead
Since then i love Zombies to " death "
(pardon the pun)
For me I think it was the Exorcist. That movie scaried the shit out of me, LOL. To this day I still can not watch it by myself. *shivers, just thinking about.*
The first horror movie I saw was nightmare on elm street,
but i cant remember which one though, But the the faucet that turned into hands was creepy and the bed when it swallowed the guy and blood gushed out like a geyser, man!
those were the days when scary movies were actually scary. now the just suck! and parents werent complaing that it is too "violent"
OF COURSE IT'S VIOLENT IT'S A HORROR MOVIE!!!!
The first horror movie i ever rented was Troll and i was about 4 or 5. And an interesting fact, the character in this movie is named Harry Potter.
my first horror flick was the elm street series. i couldnt sleep for like two weeks cause i thought freddy was real, and he was going to kill me in my sleep.lol
I was totally raised around b flicks...
so i could not even pick one....I have seen horror movies since my earliest recollections.....but I think one of those that had the best impact on me would be re-animator.....classic b cheese....
Chucky!!!! dude that doll freaked me out alot. i remember that i would have to change the channel alot lol. but know i really love the chucky movies but yeah that was the first one i believe
The first horror movie I saw was poltergeist. I was about 7 or so. I remember having to sleep with my bedroom door open and the hallway light on for about 2 weeks. Which is better than my brother who had to have the light on for 2 years!
im not sure but i think the first horror movie i ever saw was leprechaun. i wasnt scard of it. but the one movie i was that i was scared of and still am is e.t. the little alien thing scares still. its embarrassing.
I cant actually remember what my first Horror movie was but the closest I can think of is the original Texas Chainsaw Masacre and I loved it ^^ so much excitement in one film
You're not the only one Dami. I can't watch scary movies by myself. I'm a chicken. LOL
Hell when I had seen Jaws and Aliens 2 when I was little I would have to jump from my doorway to the bed and then have all of my stuffed animals on the bed with me and the covers over my head because, of course, Jaws was under my bed and the alien from Aliens was going to come suck my face out. LOL
There was an Original Strek Trek Episode ( You know the ones with Kirk, Spock and McCoy) that still freaks me out to this day. The episode was call "the Carbomite Manuveur"! Yes, that damned puppet! Bolsak or whatever it's name was. I was 5 when I saw it for the first time. From that day my mom would watch it just to tease me and see what I would do.
I think mine was a freddy cougar movie when I was like...five...LMAO.
~Nehmahati Kerosna (Kala)
LMAO Jason! I think those words may come back to haunt you! teehee
Erm 6 years old and I watched Hellraiser and Chucky
Chucky scared me coz my mum and sis colleced porcelience dolls at that time.
I can't remember the exact first horror movie I saw but I know they were somewhere in the order of: Poltergiest, The Shining, It, and this one episode of the outer limits where this guy started growing these alien bugs and they ate the dog and shit. The sad thing is about 3 months ago I saw it again and was having nightmares
Nightmare on the Elm street... and it's still my favorite..
It wasn't my first horror flick, but jeepers creepers freaked me out. Mainly cause around the same time I saw it, one of my friends was killed in a drive by and my imagination went wild, like it usually does. Now, my favorite horror flick is Stephen King's Rose Red.... mmmm, I love it!
Well it wasn't a movie per se... but my first Horror show was Dark Shadows. I was captivated by that show as a kid. Barnabus was amazing.
Well I would have to say the first horror movie that I saw and gave me nightmares was a movie called Pieces it was a real scary movie it was one part of it that did it for me. I think I was about 5 years old when I first saw it...
hmm i have seen pieces before pretty good movie been a while since I saw it but i think thats the movie where the guy was killing women and making a girlfriend from there differint body parts
Wow, good thread. I can't remember EXACTLY which one was my first. It's a toss up between Nightmare on Elm Street and th Fog.
Mine was Cat people.I was watching it with my only MALE cousin and he thought it'd be funny to wait till i went to bed and grab my foot.....needless to say i was freaked for the next year or more about under my bed............maybe that's why i have a waterbed frame HE HE HE
I can't remember something like that becuase i've been watching horror movies all of my life and I have always wanted to make my own. even if I never make my own by just listening to my music you can hear the horror movie sounding songs. all I know is that when I was a kid I wasn't scared of any horror movie but when i got older some of them became scary I guess that becuase some of them could really happen.
hellrasier movies still scare the shit out of me just from the outrageous skin-churning costumes that they wear.
betty and barny hill alien abduction....
was my first horror movie i seen.....kept me up for a week....lol
Instant Clasic, the Shining
as well as Sleepy Hollow....
mmm all of the nightmare on elm Streets...
all of the friday the 13th movies
The first horror rmovie I ever saw was poltergiest. It scared me so bad that I wouldnt play with any of my toys and I made my mother take down a pair of hanging fish that I had beacause I thought they would come alive..
Ahhh the memories..
the first horror movie i ever saw was at the age of seven this movie was called hellrazer and this moviw is what started me of loving horror movies
Feeling a lil freaking old here but my first Horror movie was The Original Texas Chainsaw ... was a instant cult movie. Saw like 20 times, lol.
Hey Daermon, just recently discovered the re-animator movies, what a blast :-)
~Lady~
HeyRazor, Hellraiser series Rock. Clive Barkers movies and books are super original and yummy dark.
~Lady~
i think the name of the film was Inseminator and i couldnt sleep some nights properly after it...buuuhh:-))
and the Wax museum belongs to my first horrors as well, its worth of seeing it:-))
My first horror movie was the Lost Boys, back when it was classified horror that is hehe
god i can't remember. the first horry thigns i ever knew of were like really scary stories about how the neighbors are all witches and shit. yeah i was raised in a small island where superstition control the heart of the people and there was heavy practice of crafts around. so yeah scary movies never scared me so i can't really remember.
I was 4years old - my parents weren't home, it was just me and my (sociopath) stepbrother. He turned on Nightmare on Elm Street, the fifth one - Dreamchild, towards the end He pinned me down and held my eyes open I had a nightmare about Freddy that night and have loved scary movies since.
The only "scary" movie that's even made me squeal, to this day is The Island of Dr. Moreau With David Thewlis and Marlon Brando in it ::shudders:: I *think* was 8 or 9 when that came out
lol I remeber watching horror movies at the age of 2(altough my parents didn't allow me:P),since I sleep alone since that age lol. So I don't remeber what was the 1st one hehe.
the first horror movie that i ever watched was when i was 5 and ir was one of the parts to friday the 13th. my aunt took me to see it and all i remember is laughing whenever that music would come on and jason would kill someone.
they should have known something was wrong with me then!
*taps her lip*
I was 2 (my mother started ALL 3 of us at age 2) I watched the orriginal Night of the living dead (my brother passed out my sister cryed and hid behind my mom and I stayed wide eyed through the whole thing only jumpin when my dad yelled out booga booga*seems to be a normal thing for him to do for years after that*)
I watched poltergiest around age 3 or maybe 4 I apperntly sat real close to the screen for the whole movie and APPERNTLY accroding to mom I licked my lips when he ripped his face off in the bathroom! I've always liked horror movies and I have my mother to thank for it ... I've loved them sooo much I even went to school for the makeup artistry and got so far as asking mr.Rick Baker in letters if I could work for him
(he's made movies such as: the grinch, hellboy, the ring, cocoon, the exorcist and yes even StarWars!) after that I got into mortuary sciences (reconstruction of faces)
I STILL to this day torment my sister with the movie Trilogy (had the lil wooden voodoo dolls) I keep telling her if she bugs me (and shes 6 years older then me) that I'll go and buy one of those lil wooden men at the green earth store and I'll put it at the foot of her bed while she sleeps!
I had no nightmares from movies ... JUST from my sisters tortures as I grew up!! *as I am the youngest of 3 and as they both put it the unwanted one lol*
Moonstruck that hapens to my friend Natalie
The Grudge scared the Sh*t outta her!! SOOO bad that she had to sleep with a light on! I even called her house the next day when I KNEW her roomate would be out at fight practice so I could make that godaweful throat noise (sounds like a creeking door but gets louder and more throaty sounding) I even went as far as blocking my fone number to her caller display .. but alas her roomtate answer'd I bytched him out for being home .. he said she begged him to stay home lol .... now he's moved out west for 3 months for school and shes all freaked out cuz I let slip the grudge is going to be on the tele in June lol
i remember more about Chucky!!! hehe
my bestfriend and i would watch it in my old basement when we were really young and there was a little door under the stairs and i always told her chucky lived there and he was going to get us at night lol she freaked out badly about that alot and i freaked myself out too sometimes. and we continued to sleep down there for years and watch chucky still...
nightmare on elm street! oh ya i remember that sh**. that was fricken insane i loved it. it scared me to death because it was like my dreams werent sacred anymore. but im not afraid of ol' fork fingers now!
the nightmare on elm street movies still freak me out alot!!! i think thats like the only movies that freak me out i have yet to see all of them lol
The blob! twas grose... then saw Poltegist and that was better
lol my first horror movie wasnt really horor but it scared the crap out of me coz i was 7 at the time. it was jaws lol. i noe sad but tru lol
Hehe... chucky.... that doll still scares the crap out of my brother and he's 18!!!
Can't remember my first, but like poltergiest, return of the living dead and the evil dead trilogy.
some Christopher Lee's dracula movie. liked the man, liked the myth, joined the bloodline
on my 12th birthday i watched my first horror it was the exercist i was told if i ever played w/the oujia board i would be like megan i had nightmares and didnt watch another horror flick till i was 16 and that was poltergiest the night my foster parents were holding a ghost raising party
after the movie i hid for days in my room because she told me after she had her party the ghosts were in the house and came threw mirrors so i ran threw the whole house covering mirrors and hiding in my lil cornor of my room after like a week when nothing happend to anyone i relized i was paranpid for a fear i had as a child.... so i faced my fear and rented psycho.......
My first horror movie was Witchboard, the same night I watched It.....that was a LONG time ago, in a galaxy far, far away
From what I remember the first horror movie that ever scared me when I was young was Child's Play. It made me scared of my glass dolls, because they had creepy eyes that seemed to follow me where ever I went....but the funny thing is, when I was in pre-school I used to come home and watch the Lost Boys almost every day with my mom and that never scared me.
Ugh, Nicnivian, you're evil! lol. My friend Heather did that to me...I mean, it was in the middle of a conversation on the phone (well, in the middle of a silence) and I knew it was her, but even then, I started screaming at her to shut the hell up or I'll kill her. lol. I slept with a light as well, after seeing that movie. It's kind of pathetic. -.-' I have no idea why that one certain movie freaks me out so much, while others can sit and laugh at it. O_o
Random question: Am I the only one who finds Asian people scarier than Americans? lol. I mean, if I look at the American version of The Ring, Samara's face just kind of makes me laugh. But, when I saw clips of the Japanese version, Ringu, I was like "Gah! Holy shiznat! *hides face*" Am I just weird? lol
well mine was Faces Of Death not saying that is a horror movie but at 7 it was
The first ever horror movie i saw was Alien when i was 5.
In all honesty, I don't remember.... All I remember is loving horror movies since I was really young. I grew up watching them with my dad, and I guess they just stuck with me. ^_^
I remember opn my tenth birthday I had a load of friends over and we watched 'Arachnaphobia' as Im terrified of spiders, it really scares me :-)
I dont remember my actual first one, but I recall watching Alien at my friends house when I was really young, and being unable to asleep for a few days... but now I love them :-)
I was six years old, and I saw THE BLOB (the classic 1958 science fiction movie starring Steve McQueen), and it scared the shit out of me. 40 years later and I still vividly remember it.
I can't remember the very first Horror movie I saw, But when I was very young, I saw: The Chuckies, Poltergeist, Steven King's Pet Semetary. Thats all I can remember for now.
no...thats not horror...it's educational....
hehehehe
at least when you are a ghost hunter...
I still hate clown since IT from stephen king.... that feels good but it's scary... lol
I've seen many horror flicks, I love them. But my first horror flick was Nightmare on Elm St. It didn't scare me although people are like it's "scary" But movies just don't tend to scare me. I just love watching them.
A response to all those who saw Chucky as their first horror movie. My daughter received a doll for her first birthday. That doll looked like Chucky, of course Chucky wasn't out yet, but when it came out, I got rid of the doll. She asked me several years later about the doll because she saw the preview on the TV for part 2 to Chucky. She remembered having that doll and wanted to know what happened to it and I had to tell her. She agreed with me, of course mothers know best, after she got to watch the first one when she turned 8.
I dont remember how old I was and I really dont remember the name of the move other that Puppet Master. There was a lil doll that drilled into a guys head. I remember peeking through my fingers thinking it was gross, but couldnt stop watching. Its been like the pretty much ever since.
I snuck downstairs as a seven year old and saw my mother and siblings watching a re run of Dracula a 1979 version of the classic.....since then I slept with my window open..... removed my crucifix from around my neck...never worn one since...and made sure that my night clothes were unbuttoned enough to expose my neck for Drac to come in through my window and bite me...I have been smitten ever since....how I adore Drac in all his guises....and I will never forget that night...~does a dance of joy~
a lot of people here saw elm street,me as well and i found it totally weird...heeelp:-)
the first scary movie i saw was in fourth grade it was urban legends. its not very scary but at the time it scared me
my first horror movie was Bram Stoker's Dracula. i was it when i was 7 and it gave me the most horrific nightmares.
I have been reading all your responces, and I have come to the conclusion that I am older than I thought,Ha ha ,,,,I am not entirely sure what My first Horror Flick was, I am not sure of the name, there was that many,I think it was an old B-Movie,where a Pianist or Paintist got his hand Cut off, and the Hand decided to get revenge,
It really Scared me, the worst thing was When I was going to bed,My elder brother went before me,Then we lived in a 3 story house, and I slept on the top floor as did my elder Brother and Sister, and on going upstairs none of the lights worked,(my brother had taken all the bulbs out),and was waiting for me on the top floor,He had gotten some of that eluminous paint and painted his hand and frightened the living daylights out of me,screaming and moaning whilst chasing me,I ran down the stairs Sreaming my head off, ,since then I have been hooked on Horror...
Sorry MY response was Soooooooooo long..xx
night of the living dead, did not really like horror movies. they made me afraid, i was a little momma's boy.
i don't remember what was the first movie but i liked Saw,Valentine...cool movies
My first scary movie was got to be Titantic, yah know with Leo and that red hair chick. Probably cause of the floating bodies (I had nightmares weeks after) I was like, 7. Then at the age of 9 I saw Mars Attacks.
I was about 16 or so when I first saw The Exorcist, I ended up laughing most of the time, though I'm sure it would have been better if I had seen it when I was younger. I think the 2nd Alien movie was by far the best of the series.
*laughing* only because I remember jaws and saturday night fever both in the movie theater.... omg.. oldddd ok so anyway horror films never gave me nightmares until I saw "SAW". ok I will admit it was an awesome movie.. so real.. could that really happen? well yeah. All through that night I would wake up and hope I was still in my bed. Weird what was scary was the fact that it really COULD happen. Happen ANYWHERE.
I think the first horror movie I ever seen was nightmare on elm's street just the first one when i was i think 8 yrs old.
