This question has been on my mind for a long time. How do vampires become immortal?
I do not know. It could be blood line, a bunch of crazy people lying(no offence), biting, a curse through you families generation, a spell, anything. i think it just depends on wat you believe in and how you think it is. Wat i mean is way more complicated than it sounds, i just can't explain it.
Theoratically Vampires have the ability to regenerate at an overwhelming speed when feeding on young living blood.. thus "explaining" their ability to heal so quickly as well, as a consequence their aging process is slowed down to a point when it is undetectable by the mortal life-span thus creating an appearence of immortality, which is reality should be extended longetivity...
Some of us live forever, but alas, that isn't me. But living forever would have its ever so demented catch of you being forever alone, as everything you knew and loved slowly died and faded away.
Just my opinion.
I don't believe that vampires are immortal.. not in the human sense.. of course they are immortal in myth and legend...books, movies and t.v....but i dont think they really are. I think it is like mentioned above.. like with the regeneration issue.. it surely slows the aging process, but doesnt make you immortal.
vampyres are not immortal thus they cant become what is not possible to be
After much wine and thought, I can only think of two beings cursed with immortality. Caine and the Roman who speared Christ. Any I'm missing?
Nothing lasts forever like the song of Type o Negative says:Everything dies.
To be quite honest... it depends on how you look at it... we're always going on about how people 'are' vampires and thinkgs of that kind... well if you look at it from a human, earthly point of view.... hen no vampires cannot be immortal... end of story. But if you look at it from a spiritual point of view then yes it is possible, because the soul lives on. Spiritual meaning that everytime a vampire feeds he is not feeding the body... but the actual soul, and all the cravings come from within the soul!
There is a theory that espouses that vampyrism is linked to the soul and that the reincarnated vampyre is capable of retrieving past memories and as such, can trace an immortal path of thought back to when they were 'born'.
I've heard many theories but never Engaged in one myself..Maybe I'll do so once I drink too much wine!
Yeah most who follow the life style still are knowing themselves but vampires being immortal....-_- maybe a longer life but not immortal. And all of us can bei mmortal if you follow certain belifs, not necessary religious....
totally not sure on caine and the roman soldier being cursed with immortality. I think I may have to dig around in that...never heard that before and grew up in a *shudder* VERY xtian household.
Yeah same here but I still have my own beliefs,no one can tell me what and not to think even though it caused me a lot of trouble.
If you don`t believe vampires are immortal, then you don`t believe.
I don't think that vampires are immortal. I think they simply have a very long lifespan so through the eyes of the humans seems as immortality!
Nothing is immortal. As long as it lives and breathes it can eventually die. It may take a while in some cases, but it will come.
I don't believe that they do become immortal, but in books its always the idea of a blood exchange.
Well when you think about it, If what we believe and staking them through their heart kills them. BUT HOW, Cus their heart doesn't beat.
By drinkking from the holy grail how else. I dont know if they aint immortal when they become a vamp I guess they just dont ever become.
I was told there was a curse put on one of the very first vampires, the curse was that he would walk the world as the living dead, sacrfice other humans lives for their survival, not be allowed in the sun to explore everything else that anyone in the day can, and they must live in that manner for the rest of their non-living..
The Curse you sepak of is from the Book Of Nod
Read it when you can it's a great book detailing Vampires
wow darklily..*winks* nice pic...
*shakes head* ok back on topic..
one day science will find the answer to immortality and thus vampyres will never die..
but for now, their bodies do and then, due to your belief, your soul goes on to its next life
To me they are not inmortal. they are the living dead. To becaome you must die first and depending on your belief..... depends on if you come back and what you come back as. some belive by drinking the blood others belive by being reborn. So i guess the answer to your question, is what do you belive?
I think i like the taste of nesquick and bananas. but everything definitely dies and then passes into the soul realm. our soul is the most important part of us, and thats why people need to quit worrying about the little stuff because it wont matter in the end.
~morgana~
take care of your soul
I honestly dont think anything can be truly immortal . . . everything that has beggining has an end . . . its just the universal rule . . . or so Ive been told.
They're human just like the rest of us. And yes they are harder to kill due to the fact that they have abilities which surpass our own.
Go with Marius, read The Book of Nod...
then read the Apocrapha. Your eyes will not believe what the mind is understanding. Knowledge is a gift to be shared.
Vampires are not immortal...they live a veeeery long time, but they can be killed. Nothing is immortal....
My personal thoughts on the matter are that a vampire's soul is eternal, not the mold holding it....
I know the hidden truths behind obtaining eternal youth and immortality. It's a secret to everybody. Shh.
I'VE READ THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE PUT THE FACT THAT THE INGESTION OF BLOOD ADDS TO THEIR LIFE SPAN
dont know but these guys seem to have a great idea of it
i think it has some thing to do with blood cause you need blood to live and blood is also how you heal some times in fact alot people who have had of blood transfusions have said they feel more energized after
Vampires are not Immortal, if you think about it A nice stake through the heart turns them to mere dust.. IS THAT IMMORTALITY?
But if legend is to be believed then staking a vamp in the heart shouldn't work cus their heart doesn't function it doesn't beat......Mmmmm now U made me think LOL.
Neither Immortal, nor Invincible.
Every being fades eventually. The only thing that remains eternal if the essence of life itself, the energy that recycles itself through our planet.
Plants die. People die. Vampires die. Be it old age or unnatural death, my time will come eventually, as will yours.
is it possible for the creation to out live the creator?un naturally speaking
In my opinion, no. Creation cannot outlive the creator, only in the sense that offspring can outlive their parent.
But I figure we are talking more of like a divine creator. In that case no.
It all depends on how you define "immortal" vs. an extended life span. Even our sun isn't immortal - it will grow old and die - granted, the stellar life span is measured in billions of years.
Lime you didn't have beans tonight did you? Anyways I sure as hell wish I were immortal thats for sure. I think it has to do with the ingestion of human blood and the transfusion of the soul into the drinker. My cat likes barbecue chips and I love cheese.
It's either magic, their sire line(kinda like a bloodline, but it's a trace of their sires, not birth relatives) or the type and amount of blood they drink.
i believe that a vampire is thought to be immortal because you are reborn into another life over and over again just like reincarnation... thats just my opinion...
We dont evre become immortal unless you count reincarnation, I really get tired of the false hoods we hear about ourselves all the time.
Tis only in Hollywood darling.....vampires are not immortal. They may age slower, but they do perish at one point in their life.
Hmmm very interesting thread, and also with every post informitative.... except mine lol. But this is very cool. Cause I didn't know the answer either I guess you learn something new everyday.
could be that the average mortal mistakes extraordinary longevity and regeneration for immortality-
well if certain things eventually could kill a vampire, ie silver somethin, sunlight, and other assorted folklureish stuff, then i would say the regenerating power of a vampire would give the effect of immortality, or just out living others
I think it's because, vampire technically 'die' when turned. Their body stops , aging is impossble.
Modern Living Vampyres are not and cannot be immortal....in that one cannot live in the same body forever. I am taking into account that many children and role-players on the VR claim to be immortal....having lived for 100, 500, 1000 years. To make such a claim is foolish.
Aurora, Sorry I am a little late on this but as someone who has had a near complete blood transfusion (6 pints) it does revitalize you. Of course if you happen to be getting one chances are you are very sick or badly hurt. Personally speaking there was nothing mystical about it, the doctors just thinned mine out to much and needed to get mine balanced back out.
mmm i'd say blood line. . . but anyone and everyone can die. so i dont think i would say immortal just say.
there are so many different theories out there about vampires and immortality that i really don't bother trying to find out anything.
Pick an answer:
Immortal the old-fashioned way: stories, myths, legends, no true account of physical transformation, only something that exists by word of mouth or literature.
Immortal the belief/life approach: vampirism as a lifestyle, a long lifespan due to nutrients found in actually drinking controlled amounts of blood, ritualised practices, (probably shouldn't categorize most under this but it'd be too long of a post as you can see).
And, my personal favorite, immortal because the idea of a real immortal is slightly romantic and tragic. [I'm thinking Anne Rice here people, the vampire and immortal thing, now that's a lovely "image" of a vampire/immortal transformation.]
Everything Dies. Somethings just last longer than others.
Vampires are considered immortal by some people because they don't die naturally. All living things die, whether it be natural or unnatural.
I don't believe they are immortal (....maybe in Hollywood....)
possibly through a curse, i duno, id hate to be immortal, its totally un natural
vampires dont become immortal. they all have some sort of a weakness and could be killed in one way or another
RENFIELD...you should start a thread on that...very good questions here indeed... personally, i go with anne rice on this...for those who dont know her thoughts, vampires can only die by sunlight and unnatural reasons. the blood that they drink as well as the fact that they die in order to become immortal (the basis of many religions). so there are two things that come into play here, one, that vampires are rejuvinated in the blood they consume, and two, their body is dead, hence it cannot age. anne rice also goes on to suggest that while vampires dont age as we do, they do become like stone. she also has a lot of theology, and i reccomend that you at least read Memnoch the Devil as it is very enlightening. as for how vampires came to exist, rice portrays it as a possesion and a curse. all of this is explained in detail in Queen of the Damned. i suggest you read both books for understanding and theories that are too complicated to talk about here.
personaly i dnt think they become immortal
ppl jst think they do frm the myths of vampires
In my opinion vampires were not reborn into immortality. I think that real vampires can die just like humans but has a kind of sixth sense deal. They can have acute hearing and vision. They can be aware more of their surroundings. They are very sensitive to stuff like the sun but can be in it. Stuff like that.
I personally think that Vampires are not immortal in the true sense of the word. Their bodies are able to replenish dead cells from the drinking of blood, thus giving them the illusion of immortality. And if they are able to avoid physical damage, the cellular replenishment can extend their life well past a century or two.
i never thought about that.....i'm just enjoying the gift......
i belive that if they have enough blood then tehy could be. but there are so many ways that they can die so i dont thnk that they cant die....i dont know
da aging process is much much slower then a normal man so, it seems that we all live forever.
Historically speaking Vampires are not immortal. They are extremely resistant to things that would cause death in a human, but for example they can be killed by a stake through the heart (signifying pinning them to their coffins), and cutting off their heads (as was presumed to be the case with Vlad the Impaler). The remedy then calls for thecorpse to be burned then either burried or scattered at a crossroads. Thus, rendering the vampire mortal.
The became immortal by being removed from the sight of God, to stay and suffer and see all that they onced love dissipate and die again and again, no hope of an after life. this is all that they have, a long life with out any hope of redemption, it is HELLon earth,
Explain what you mean by that Madbeau in relation to this thread please...
answer- vampires are nto imortal, if they/we were we would beable to go out in the sun etc so they dont become immortal
I think they are practically imortal, in the same sense that a tree is. Unless something happens to kill that tree it will just go on. At least as far as I know trees don't die of old age.
No idea how vampires get that way though.
i just had an aphifiany(sp??) (thought for those who have no idea what i just said)....maybe when one talks about being immortal it had to do with their belief...
if one believes in reincarnation then in some aspect, one is immortal...because although the body might be dead in one life...your soul or essence lives on in the next body...thus you live the life of an immortal
well from wat i heard is that the only way the die is from bein killed by someone or somethin or from the lack of blood...but i realy dont know
vamps dont become immortal thats a bunch of crap their are only two immortals and those are the first vamps so you cannot become that way yes you may stay young looking but not forever vamps age too slower than humans but we do our souls are immortal but not our bodies
vampres obtain immortality the same way anyone does:
They. Don't. DIE!
Me, I plan on living forever. So far, so good.
Umm.. Vampires dont ever become immortal... They live like happy normal people and then they die... the only thing different is they live longer!!!
i think that the immority of vampires was made up by hollywood
Due to the genetic alterations due to the "vampire disease" the regenerative powers of vampires work at such a cursory rate, it seems as if they are immortal. At least in lore, real vampires aren't quite "immortal" but often are immune to some human illnesses and have the capacity to heal faster if they focus their energies into healing.
of course everything will die eventually.
Here's some lines from one of my favorite band's songs:
"These days are closing in
The end has become apparent
We're only here for so long
Will anyone remember my name
When time has washed away the dust of my ashes
When my head rests in a velvet lined casket
What's out there?
What is my eternal fate?
it only just recently hit me
That this life is just a state
Mortality fading, like the innocence of love
I'm scared to death of what's to become"
--The Remembrance Ballad, Atreyu
i have absolutely nothign to say on this subject i appreciate any news on this it confuses me
If you think of the old myths about them. A person that becomes a vampire there soul is replaced by a demon so, the body isn't immortal but the demon is. So the body is already dead (I also found some interesting articals on this subject, I posted them in the stories section of my Journal) Hope it helps.
if vampireisum is a dizez then it would be a blood one passed on thow bitting and drinking whos to say they dont age cuz of there blood or blood line but die at a normal age
My Opinion: Immortality, is what you want to believe it is.
In my opinion immortality doesnt exist. Its a fantasy theory used to back up characters like vampires. The concept of it draws attention because who wouldnt be interested in the idea of 'living forver'? I think its just an idea birthed long ago to add perks to fictional characters, religions, beliefs, etc.
the mith of immortality hmmmm? people have been seeking immortality for as long as man have been out of the cave now when you talk about vampires you are talking about a bloodline gift/curse i do not think that they are immortal but i do think that they can go in the sun i think that if you take the life essence from another living thing/person that you can slow down the aging process but this is based off of verry limited research

If you really think about it. Everyone lives for ever, just few of us actually know it. Our lifeforce or soul gets bounced back and forth through the cosmos for eternity.
As for a vampire becoming immortal, I have no clue. Some how they just are, it's the way of things.
I once did a thread about if vampires are immortal and most ppl said no one is immortal so thats what i believe now.
I think it's not a matter of body but soul. The soul is immortal, the soul is eternal. After the body goes, the soul finds another host.
if you've read anne rice's queen of the damned, you know that the spirit that attacked akasha is what made her turn into a vampire. that spirit is immortal, like others who choose to roam the earth and i believe he passed on that immortality to all vampires.
Vampires are immortal, the drinking of blood and energy slow the aging and make there life span longer , Vampires have no pain , and they heal quickly,
Hmm.... probably through the drinking of blood, but that would really only give them longevity. Who really knows? You'd have to ask a vampire that knows of that sort of thing.
nothing and noone is truly immortal. If we were then our bodies would not die either. I am a vampire. I am not immortal. However i believe souls are immortal. at least some anyway.
