Has anyone ever heard of the Collins family? and Barnabus Collins from the show Dark Shadows?
It was a soap-opera show in the late 70s that i watched as a child growing up. Its what turned me onto Vampires.
I've heard of the Addams Family, but not the Collin's Family.
yes ...look under Televison on here...there is a dvd boxed set...and yes it was remade in the 90's
http://www.darkshadows.com
Barnabus was a kind hearted vampire. The show is supposed to still come on regularly on SCI FI but i havent seen it lately.
Yeah I would wrap a short sheet around me cover half my face with it and my arm and pretend to be Barnabus.
looks like something I need to get my hands on, for curiosity sake
Yeah. The show is pretty cool for being the only horror soap opera I've ever seen. They had some cool costumes.
Who has not herd of Dark Shadows. If you have not then you are not a true fan of vampires.
I love that show and used to watch it all the time. Hell, I still watch it all the time. My mother even named my sister after the vampire Angelique.
Ohhhhhh my god yes... I love that show, so much that i actually spent over 60$ to buy the first season.. the only soap i have ever watched and liked..
For you whom have never seen it, if you get the chance it is a must, a very old classic from the 70"s...
i've never heard of it...and not becuz i'm not a true fan of vampires...its becuz i don't watch television that much
I remember that show (in reruns though). I used to watch it on the Sci-Fi Channel. A good show, but hardly a horror. Well, it was pretty old. Maybe it's just tame by today's standards. But I don't think that someone's not a true fan of vamps just because they've never heard of the show.
yea they did have it on scifi and they still do it show at about 3 or 4 am well aleast here thats when i watch it
I remember that show very well.....a vampire soap opera. Those words just don't seem to go together, but it really was a good TV series.
OMG I do remember that show quite well and it is still on re-runs. That was a great show.
Seriously, if you haven't seen any of the Dark Shadows stuff, go rent it, buy it, whatever. No vampire afficianato should be without this knowledge. LOL
the show still comes on ,useally on public telli.i have been watching it for about twenty years now,and it is to my understanding it has been arounf for about thirty or fourty.o rmaybe longer.
I love the Collins Saga..based in my home state of MA...
great characters....creepy setting..
Really though, if you havent seen it you should. No its not scary, but its what put Vampires on tv regularly. Without the Collins family.... we might just be the Brady Bunch... lol
I have to contradict DomAngelus, I think Vampire and Soap Opera go together all too well!
I haven't seen it but with how everyone speaks of it I guess it is about time..
I remember the show its was cool I like the remake they did of it in the late 80's early 90's with Ben Cross playing the part of Barnabus Collins was a good show wish they wouldnt have took it off
Hey not everyone lives in the US anyone gotta check the link now!
yes i know this show i watched it as a kid and when they brought it back a year or so back and reaired it for the younger generation this show if im right was one of the first vampire shows made for tv it was actually very good for back in the day its in all honesty a cult classic .they need to bring it back again and keep it around longer then last try :)
im sorry but i had to say this... how can a shadow be a dark shadow? aint all shadows dark? lol...
yes i do remember that one. they did a remake of it in the 80's i do believe as well. can not believe someone remembers that one. wow
I have only seen a handful of the old b/w original episodes but remember the remake series of the early 90's well. Although it didn't last very long the second time around.
i second the first comment about only hearing about the addams family
ohmigod there really are old farts like me on here-would give up play time to go home and watch...
Oh yes....my first Soap!
I use to run home from school to watch it. Honest! Damn...i'm dating myself. :)
see thats whats so awesome about this show it dont matter when you saw it whether it was back in the 70s/80s/90s its a timeless classic all should sit and watch ,if it wasnt for them alot of cool vampire related stuff wouldnt of been released on tv =)
Yep Barnabus was my first Vampire love or lust!!!!
I think I have seen every single episode......it is a classic
and if you havent seen any of them you so need to go get it....
I remember watching it all the time growing up and even after I left home. Now I watch the boxed episodes...This is what got me into vampires and the seduction of it all.
It is easy go to search type Dark Shadows and then you will now what the show is.
i have never ever heard on that show which sucks i like to know things but oh well what can ya do
*laughing at billy* and I thought I was old...a vampire soap..I thought I was the only one who remembered that-did it come on after "Guiding LIght" where you were?
I used to watch it in it's original airing. All you who never heard of it , or only saw it in syndication make me feel soooooo old. (sigh) Granted, I was a kid when I saw it, and I probably didn't pay to much attention to story lines, but I remember it.
I watched it with my Mother. It was part of our daily routine.
I loved Dark Shadows.. my mother hated me doing so.. but it was so cool to me as a child.. if you have not seen it find it..
i loved watching it as a kid it was great i never missed it
RedQueen, I'm not sure which show it followed. I was in the 7th grade at the time. And I literally ran home to watch it so firgure @4:00pm. It was the only show I was allowed to watch before homework.
At the time I didn't know it was a Soap, just a really cool Dark show. Now, lets talk at 'Days' shall we..? :)
never heard of it but it sounds cool, i'll check it out
I remember the 90's remake very well and loved every minute of it. It got me intersted in the original and I caught some of it on sci fi. It had kind of a moody air to it that I loved.
Any one here remember the stairway through time in that show? Very original.
DArk Shadows was the original supernatural soap- it had vampires, werewolves, witches, Frankenstein, time travel, sex, drugs and 60's clothing styles- it was fabulous-not only that, it was one of the first tv shows to spawn not one but two movies- "House of Dark Shadows" and "Night of Dark Shadows"
iv heard of the how n seen a few clips but nothing more im afraid
it 3was a gothic soap opera...in the ways of the young and the restless except with demons, vampires, and werewolves
www.ccvideo.com has the entire series on DVD-unfortunately they don't have the full length motion pictures, but those you can get just about anywhere
ok you guys are making me feel really OLD- lol- also that link I set also has the remade series, which I found less than satisfactory...
I watch the entire series on the sci-fi channel a few yrs ago.It is very good and once it was done I did a little reserch and found out that many fans even today keep it going with conventions and newsletters and there have been some books that have been made to continue to tell the tale of Dark Shadows.
no i havn't, but it sounds interesting. I'm going to have to look it yp.
i have heard of the collins family. i love the original series of dark shadows.
i cannot believe how many people havent heard of dark shadows.....omg! i just noticed this by the way...........
I know...unfortunately in this day and age, Dark Shadows would be considered the height of camp and buffonery- I however, like some of the others who saw is when it first came out, was a child and it was very titillating and scary to a pre teen...will the original had all the gothic atmosphere, the new version lost a little in translation-what it had in romanticism, is lost in trying to be too real.
also, it might be interesting to note that some of the series was shot on location at Lyndhurst House in Tarrytown New York, where they have tours and occasional conventions for Dark Shadow Fans...lol
http://www.collinwood.net/location/
u watched it in the late 70's?? How old r u? and I haven't heard of it to answer ur question.
I've never heard of it. The closest thing to it I have heard of is the CD by HIM called "Dark Shadows and Brilliant Highlights".
OOPS CORRECTION!
"DEEP Shadows and Brilliant Highlights" is the name of that HIM cd! sorry!
i have the series on disc and i have clipart from the show...it was great and still is the #1 classic vampire show.
i have heard of the show and sometimes these forums turn crazy but i have never seen the show
i have heard of the show and sometimes these forums turn crazy but i have never seen the show
ive heard of this dark showdows thing but never seen it before but i would like to see it some day !!!
HA! Dark Shadows! Man, I used to watch that in the mornings, on Sci-Fi, around 8am or so. It still may be on later in the morning, I am not sure. It is interesting, but horrible acting! It is quite cheesy, so be sure and have some crackers on hand. I used to love to watch them look off stage to read the cards and over act. I am not sure how long it was on, in the 70s, but it sure is Nosferatu, because it just won't die! *laughing*
im only 18. so no i wasnt even around in the 70s.... lol but its been redone agian and agian. wonderful each and everytime
dark shadows came out in the sixtes originally i watched when i came home from school they also made a movie as well barnabas was a vampire made that way from a curse from a jealous witch angelique his cousin quentin was a werewolf as well as the tv series there was a book series beliveit was 32 books in all
wolf of wolfspirits
i've heard of it but never actually watched the show...
Yes i adore that soap it and Port Charles was my Favorites.
dark shadows may be cheesy but the world be pretty boring if there were no cheese. heehee.
Oh my gosh finally someone I can maybe chat with about dark shadows. I my self am writting a book about it. Such a wonderful way to be introduced to vampires witches and the like.
cat I would love to see the rough draft of that if you don't mind- I have some very fond memories of that show- David Selby was my first HUGE crush...lol and I wanted to be Angelique SOOO bad
HOLY HELL! I used to watch it with my mom when I was lil. I used to play Dark Shadows on the playground! To this day my mother still watches the DVDs before she goes to bed.
i have heard of it but never seen any episodes of it wouldn't mind getting to see it some time if you know where i can find and videos of it send a message to me!
a lot of libraries carry copies on VHS for rent to wath them if you want- also I left a link to CC video who carries them on DVD, and I'm sure there are other companies
Never heard of it, but.... back then my parents were the ratings guide. If they did not like it, I did not watch it. I will Check it out.
never heard of it but maybe would give it a try if it ever was remade again;
Sorry, guys, when I was growing up in the 70's, we only had three tv stationsin our area - one of which was an educational channel out of Duluth!
If Dark Shadows happened to be on one of the other two, my parents must not have let us watch it...
Either way, I missed out on it back then!!!
who has not seen dark shadows I remember it as a kid I would watch it all the time even now I will rent the dvd's just so I can see the old shows.
sevilsangel are you a vampire or you just turned onto them?
OMG!!! someone else who used to play Dark Shadows!!!
I used to wrap a blanket or towel around my arms, cover up have of my face and say
"I am Barnabus! HA HA HA!"
oh and as for the question, i could only dream of such. I am but a loving follower, completely obsessed with vampires.
I thank Dark Shadows for it.
I have never seen it but being from Australia might have something to do with that(Tv sucks over here).Sounds interesting though...
I've heard of the show but I never got to watch it as my brother was constantly glued to his superhero cartoons. All this talk of the show now has me intrigued. I definitely will be looking into it. Honestly, I've never been into watching any television but... because of all this discussion I think it will be worth looking into. LOL... I just asked my mother about it and she got all excited about it. Said it was her favorite show.
i think my mom told be about that show...ya im pretty sure she did...but ive never seen it personally...she said that show made her get into vamps..but she hates them now..*dont know why*..but yeah ive never seen it heard about it though
You will never rest, Barnabas! And you will never be able to love anyone - for whoever loves you will die. That is my curse, and you will live with it through all eternity!" Angelique
The castle is brilliant been to see it is in NewPortRhodeIsland.
ohhhh.. i loved that show... actually.. i just found a box set of the first season last night and picked it up..hehe... dark shadows today :)
okay, now I'm jealous- who has all the shows, and when is the viewing party? lol
yes, we have old tapes, my mother even loved the show.
We are both 44yrs old. l I loved watching it. BTW. RedQueen we aren't old! just enlitened!
There was a resurrgence of the Dark Shadows movement too in the nineties, but I don't think it lasted more than few episodes.
*Smiles warily*
My dad grew up on Dark Shadows and it was all he spoke about, the series being released on DVD box sets was probably one of the happiest days right up with there marriage, children....etc. *Grins*
no I haven't heard of it......wait didnt I respond to this one already?
I used to watch that show all the time when I was little. I never missed an episode of it. The funny thing is that every time it would come on, my dad would tape it. We still have the tapes.
Never heard of it til now but I don't like to watch TV life is sooo much more dramatic if you take the time to stop and look around you at what is going on.
me and a group of friends would get together to watch it everyday after school ( mom taped it for us while she got ready to go to work)...me and my friends even tried to make a similar soap, but we couldn't ever get the first episode done...we were in high school and we had no life so don't laugh too hard...lol
The music from the show used to scare me unmercifully. I had to cover my ears whenever the show came on because you could hear it throughout the house. I think I was around 5 years old. I have to doublecheck my references, but there is something called The Dark Shadows Society, which meets (or used to meet) in a convention-style format. This was an incredibly huge show in its day because there were no other programs like it on television. One of the greatest aspects of the show was that it was done live. If you watch the episodes, you'll sometimes catch a shadow or someone going past a window, or some other blooper. It was, correction, is a great show.
Good gravy Davy, I used to run home from school just to watch Dark Shadows.
The only episodes I missed were when my mom didn't have to work that day.
I had no idea it was still on. I have never seen it on the sci fi channel (not that I watch it all that much but hey).
If I saw it on tv I would stop what I was doing and watch it. Well, depending on what I was doing that is.
