I am sure this has been done to some degree, but how old were you when you found out about vampires? How did you happen upon them? What kept you truly interested and intrigued by them up to this point in time? :) To make it more resourceful and interesting post another site you frequent with an interesting read to go along with your reply.
I found this site to be interesting whether or not all the info is factual and accurates another story. It's still a good read and nice on the eyes to. =)
DarkChamber
I don't really remember the exact year. It may have been some comic or book when I was knee high. But I do remember being hooked on "Dark Shadows" when it first came out. Many, many years ago.
I was about interested in vampires as soon as I could read and understand words. The idea of the manners of having very powerful and not afraid to be of any emotion. A lot of my information came from Bram Stoker, Anne Rice, and all that jazz that i've picked up from the library. A deffinate book worm on learning all I can on the vampiric scene. Some authors i've taken to more than the others and gave up a few as well.
Comics and books are awesome ways to find out or happen upon the topic of vampires. So many of both out there. So much tv as well. Dark Shadows was amazing for a show back in that decade..so awesome they tried to redo it a bit later in the century ... Movies were another amazing way of finding out about them. My first glimpse of vampires was nosferatu the black and white original and also Bela Lugosi and even Christopher Lee did a good job as vampires in movies, especially for back in that time frame when it was rather new to most ppl watching or wondering.
Dark Greeting's,My grand ma told me since I could understand language.I am dranhpyre. She told and taught me.
Dark Blessing's,
KA
I was searching the word vampire on msn and Vampire Rave came up. So I click on it and once it came up and I looked around abit I was hooked. Been coming to the site everyday, sometimes twice a day.
And then there were the "Vampirella" mags. O.O Did I also mention the Vampirella mags. O.O Ah yes, the Vampirella mags....
My exposure came from books.
The DarkAngel trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce was the first story to captivate my imagination. From there it goes on to movies (yes I love those horrid B movies from the 80’s) and classic literature. It seems it just has enthralled me for life :)
I have always been fascinated with vampires and want to learn everything i can about them.
Ah yes Vampirella. My first comic book about vampires i came across back in the day. I have been lucky enough to go to comicons were alot of her illustrators and color inkers attended..i got autographs..pics and it rocked. She is an awesome character ..The movie in my opinion blew, but the comics are timeless :)
Vampires in fiction well my family loved watching horror movies and reading vampire fiction so all my life people living a vampric life style well when I lived in San Francisco I meet a few at clubs and they liked me so we'd hang out
I was born into the ettequite and Herititary path of my father. He believed it was my duty to learn to survive anythign this world had to offer or kill me to make it so.
I've always known about them and thought they were kinda cool, but when I really became obsessed is in the 7th grade. I kinda started hanging out with a new group of kids and they watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer a lot.... I got into it too, and pretty much fell in love with Spike/James Marsters and it soon morphed into a love of vampires in general... fiction and real.
Ahhh Billy!!!! Dark Shadows - was completely hooked into it from start to finish - hardly remembered a thing until Sci Fi Channel re aired it a few years ago. That and the Hammer Dracula movies and all the comicbooks and novels I could read. Always had a fascination for the paranormal and vampires, werewolves, and other beings.
I can't remember not knowing about Vampires and Werewolves, and Ghosts (oh, my!) Mother was a gorgon, and she made sure we were well educated. She read to us until we were big enough to insist on reading for ourselves.
When I was a child I had read up on Bram Stoker's Dracula. I was hooked ever since then. My mom also would talk to me about vampires, ghosts, etc. while I was growing up.
I am a romantic person by nature and I have always been. My mother was obsessed with reading romance novels by Johanna Lindsey and one of her earlier works involved a vampire. My mother had these books laying all over the house and I came upon that book when I was ten years old. I liked the sensuality of the picture on the front. A large breasted woman being bitten by a debonare vampire man. I snuck the book away and read every word. I have now read nearly every work by that author. That was the only vampire type book she'd ever written but it began the fascination.
I remember there being something about vampires on the local news out here. I may have dreamt it, Imay not have, but I remember it. I don't remember how old I was, But I've known that I am attracted to them.
I believe I have actually just always had an infatuation for the undead...
i came across vampires when i was about 6-7 years old. i don't really remeber how or why but i saw a vampire movie late one night and i just feel in love with the way they were. i am also very glad that i am a vampire.
I don't have a clue when i really became obcessed with Vampires... I've been in to them sice i was little maybe like 11... I think the thing that caught my eye is what got most people started, the forbidden-ness (is that a word) of it all.
A lot of it has to do with my diabetes actually. My family used to call me a vampire, and a leech because when I would check my bloodsugar and have to prick my finger to get blood, I use to not want to stop sucking the blood. I would also get bloody noses alot, and because I loved the taste of blood I wouldn't tell anyone and I would swallow the blood.
I was a dark, wierd child to begin with, but it also really started when I read bram stoker's dracula in fourth grade (yes, I was very advanced) and saw the movie. After that, I became obsessed with Vampires; learning and studying the different types of Vampirism...and trying to discover who I am.
I can't remember a time I didn't know about vampires. To me they have always been as real as all the other immortals. Why do they interest me? Probably because I have more than one in the family, and seem to draw them to me also.
I remember being 8yrs old and sitting in the living room with my brother
When the first Vampire movies came on. It was Dracula. just Dracula..
pale face red lips gray strip of hair going down his cold black hair. Living in the biggest castle. And wearing a cape.. with red lining in the inside. I don't know if that movie was the 1945 one or the 1956 movie.
But after seeing that I was in love at the age of 8... (smile)
Wow i'm impewaaws with the many varied replies to this thread. What I would love to see more of now is some links to sites for these movies..comics and books or names of books as well as author name so we can spread the knowledge of various sorts throughout this site and it's people. We all have a fascination and desire to know as much as we can about vampires so why not share resources we know and love with each other. Ty Saharia for the link you provided. :)
Err that was supposed to be impressed and I misspelled Sahahria's name. My bad .lol
I was young, and had an older brother that watched alot of horror movies etc.
I was addicted to Scooby-Doo and well we all know the amount of Vampires, Ghosts and Were wolf's those shows have....
I can not remeber an exact age, but I know I was very young 3 or 4 eben when I started liking vampires. I have always liked them and discovered that I was one. I think that is what has kept my intrest in them. That and getting to know other vampires
my motehr said that when i was about 2 years old i used to see the dracula films with my father while she used to be scared, I dont know why i was never scared and so my father wouldn t mind at all :)
I very sneakily watched Dracula while my parents did (ya know, sitting very quietly behind the chair, peeking out). I knew that there was a connection between what I was watching, and how I was feeling. I think it was right around the time I was waking up to the fact that I am a vampire.
Vampire movies is how I discovered them. Books came later
Nine years old, Tomb of Dracula (or Dracula Lives as it was called here in the UK).
Blade was a decent hero for me for many years.... then they made those movies...ack.
Oddly, since I've re-read them, I feel more sympathy for Dracula than I was capable of understanding when I was younger.
It's funny how the bad guys aren't so clear cut when we get older.
I'm not sure when.... I was young when first seen a vampire. I'm sure it was in a movie.
Its been in the last year that I've become "obsessed" with them. I find those that claim to be vampires to be very interesting and great to talk to.
I was just a kid, sneaking up on friday nights to watch the late night horror movies usually vampire or werewolves, Lugosi or Christopher Lee mostly, I always wanted Van Helsing to loose. I was hooked from then on, watched or read anything I cound find on them. I still find them both the most attractive and frightening of people. I now know some people are real vampires in different ways feeding off the energy or emotions of others. From the sales of vampire style novels and movies they must still be the most popular of all evil heros.
pretty funny story actually, i was 12 at the time and around the time of marilyn manson's height of popularity. I had Antichrist Superstar in my cd player and a friend of mine was over and he showed me a book he brought over. In there had the story of Cain and what i suppose was the beginning of the vampires...i then looked into what i would be associated with and from what i came up with i'd either be a Gangrel or Lasombra. Since then i have been completely fascinated and i've been researching more into it.
Me I always watched Vampire movies..
I used to sneek up in the middle of the night when I was little to watch Vampire Hunter D.. Christopher Lee always played one heck of a Vamp... Salem`s Lot is another wild movie the first one is real good.. Bram Stoker's Dracula is, one of the best... The funny vampire movies are great too... Love at first bite , was one of my favorites..
Then as a teen i started to looking for books , Anne rice and other kept my attention..
Then i started playing Vtm ... So on , and so on now i`m here ....
When I was young and I became more interested in them when I first saw The Lost boys. And I've been that way ever since then.
I first ran across vampires when I was about 3. My father was teaching me how to read and I ran across a copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula. From the first few pages I was hooked.
To begin with, I was interested in anything dark, which led to my finding that book at a garage sale held by my local library. I was just browsing through all the books concerning witches, werewolves and the like when I saw it and had to pick it up. The cover was evocative of something evil and that drew me in.
Later on, I got back into vampires after forgetting about Dracula by flipping on the TV one fine night and seeing Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Which led to me wanting to find out more about vampires and led to me finding Sanguinarius.org and reading up more about them.
i am a vampyre
i i have been awakened sense the day i was born, just not awakened all the way...
i have been told by the elders of my coven (outside of this site) that this is rare, and that most vampyres dont awaken until about puberty...
every day, i am advancing, being only 15 i am still under the process of puberty, and i feel the difference everytime i move...
i dont remember when i came across vampyres...
but, i always knew (growing up as a child) that i was different.
What can I say...I saw the movies, read some books, but I have learned that I like this kind of fiction when I read my first Anne Rice book...I fell in love with the characters and her writting style...
i think the point i discovered vampires was when i was given a set of glow in the dark dracula teeth for halloween. and i was facinated from then on, after that i saw thelost boys when i was very young also, and that was the preverbial nail in the coffin! (excuse the pun).
I honestly have no idea. As far back as I can remember I've been dressing as vampires and witches for Halloween and I just kept learning more and more about both. Now I am about half an encyclopedia each on the 2 subjects.
I've been in love with everything vampiric since I can remember but half a year ago I seached google for supernatural topics (energy drawing) and stumbled over a site that handled psi-vamps, before that day I had never even heard of the term.
I seached for more pages about vamps/psi's I somehow came across the VR.
I have always felt intrigued with vampires since a very early age. There is a "connecting feeling" towards them. I admire thier beauty, grace, thirst, and how suave they are with words. How they can mezmorize people With one look.
I remember being little and watching Scooby Doo because of the vampires and ghost. Even though it scared me I still loved it! lol
When I became a bit older, I would draw things that were connected with vampires. I then became more and more interested in books and movies.
Today, I am still very much interested in them and still enjoy gathering information about them.
I will be intrigued with them until I am old and gray.. lol
this site was probably the first site that accually gave me real information about true vampires, and it was abouta year ago
and what all did u learn here?
cuz like...on the left thingy, the "What is a Vampire?"
thats totaly fiction...i mean, yea the dictionaries said that, but its not what real vampyres really are.
well i came to know about vampires when i read a book about it for the first time when i was about 14 years old.
My first experience was through movies with Bela Lugosi, the sterotypical Hollywood vampire. What age, I cannot say.
Real life, I fell into a relationship with one of the thirst. I tell the story through poetry in my profile and journal if one cares to read between the lines. Some marks I bear to this day, hense the nick on this site.
I was born a vampire but I came across the when I was 15
Let's see I was just a little girl when I cam upon vampires. I used to watch the old movies with my momma, and they fascinated me ever since. Of course then I just seen vampire's as made up fictional stuff in movies. Then I got introduced to this site by a friend. That totally changed my opinion on vampires.
Now I have yet to meet an actual vampire...
Oh yes and what kept me interested and into them, was the whole seduction romance part of it all. I loved vampires I thought they were sexy! >:D
It seems I always had a fasination with vampires, even when I was very small, I would sneak up late at night to watch them on TV. Later on I guess a number of years I came across a publication called V.I.E.N. (Vampire Information Exchange Network, that was before I had access to the Internet. Links that I like are www.Sanguinarius.org. or www.shadowlore.net. there are several more but I would have to go find the url's for them.
even though i have been awakened my whole life, i always had a fascination for all of the paranormal, mainly were but also the vampire!
i always knew i was different, i just never really figured it out all the way...
When I was 10 I finished all my Dad's Stephen King books and moved on to Anne Rice. After Interview with the Vampire I was hooked for life...
;)
Simonis
I believe I learned of vampires from old halloween stories on tv and I wanted to dress like one every halloween,...complete with the fangs, cape, white button-up shirt, and slicked-back hair, LOL. Watching tv shows with vampires and then reading every book on vampires that I knew about is how my lil obsession progressed...always wished I was one tho ; (
I don't know what sites supplied me with my info, because I always googled "vampires" and read almost every entry that came up.
I think I was about in middle school. I snuck my first horror movie during that time. Ever since then its always been in my interest.
In real life my cousin had known some people who were in some sort real life vampire cult group. Unfortuently I've lost contact with her.
I was actually 3 years of age. I watched The Lost Boys with my brother and Dad. Every since then I've been inlove with Vampires and felt a pull to them.
As far back as I can remember I have been drawn to Vampires, and Witches. I wanted to read all there was, see everything that was on tv, movies. There wasn't anything I didn't want to know, explore. Not until I was older was I able to really explore and understand.
I"ve been drawn to vampyres since I was a little girl. I always believed in them but only a couple of years ago did I actually understand it. And i still have a lot to learn.
-MixedBlood-
that is a wonderful movie! the lost boys
i havnt seen it in a long time!
well, all of you have interesting stories on how you came across such wonderful beings such as myself...lol
yeah i first found out in 7th grade when i dated a person who said he was one
I had been beaten nearly to the point of death i was in form my humanoid wolven body in very pour condition, a vampire rescued me and even killed so that i might feed until i was able to hunt on my own again. that is how i came across them because until that point i was unaware that they even existed
well, i was about 7 when i saw my first vampire movie, it was some Dracula Movie which didn't get me that interested...
the real interest in vampires cam at the age of 12, when i played Vampire the Masquerade : Redemption for the first time :D
i cant remember when i first found out about vampires, but i dident really get into them untill i was about 14 when i joined the site :P
I do believe that the first time I came across vampires was by readin some old legends from my country...there there were some creatures that used to suck people`s blood or souls and leave them to die in agony... I didn`t know exactly what they were until in school where somehow I learned what a "vampire" was and I heard the story of Dracula for the first time...
KaosJester,
Do you realise that your post is a statement of admission to a federal crime?
You claim a vampire committed murder on your behalf, or perhaps it only killed animals to help you recover your strength?
when i was young our babysitter use to watch vamp films and i kinda got into them thro her...but as i got older the more i liked them...the more people thought i was weird...fuck it i am weird...get over it!! Vamps Rock m/
I found out about vampire when I was a young girl with comic books but, as I grew older I found out it was not just a comic. I began to run into people who were in fact vampires that did drink blood. I actually was married to one and that in fact drew me closer to wanting to experience it. But, as in anything I still have alot to learn about it all.
Interesting Question Batchyld :)
All my life I have felt different and that lead for a search to answers i first came across vampires in the mention of salems lot as a child.. wel lI read alot of fantast but stil lcontinued my search for the truth.. years ago I met a feew pople from a group called lifes blood ..Mari and Akira were some of them.. wel lI h ad already been in vampire groups done lots of research myself as for an explination.. in lifes blood Akira and Mari guidend em to more people who are kin.. years later we formed Shadowlore the rest is history..I have found out alot about myself as well as some introspection into soem kin..I found out I wasnt the only one or a phreak.. ~Shadowdancer~
i guess when i was small, before that even, i knew about it to some level i dont know how. i always knew that there was somthing other than people here.
Ok, Id say mine is wierd even for this sight. Obviously we arnt talking about the vampires of TV and movie, but in fact those who are post to this. I found out about real vampires when I was diagnosed with a "rare blood disorder that causes photo-sensitivity, a decrease in meletonin, hightened vision and hearing and sence of taste and feel, a lenghtened life span and slower signs of aging. I was like great! where can I get so more of this if ever wears off! LOL, I ended up going to a "support group" for it (my parents are wierd like that) where they fed me blood instead of steroids and introduced me to a really great culture. I was like 14 I think, what really sucks is that the support group is now gone due to the gov. not supporting our use of feeding instead of taking drugs! FUCK AMERICAN GOV! >:-[

I think that as children (especially in the land of TV and Hollywood) we're exposed to these archetypes at such an early age as to be almost subliminal...The Count on Sesame Street, Count Chocula Cereal, The Robot Vampire in Buzz Lightyear. I'd like to say that from memory, my first concious introduction to the vampire was the film Love at First Bite...but I'm sure that'd be wrong.
The vampire is such a strong archetype that it makes it irresistable to marketers and advertisers to use and abuse at a very early age of the market segment.
Besides, there was probably some intro even before that in public school around halloween.
The shows Dark Shadows and Forever Knight were my first encounters with them. They were on recording video tapes my parents owned, I watched them, but I wasn't in a stage of liking them. I was like very young, before the age of 9. It wasn't until like I reached 8th grade when I got interested in any kind of dark stuff truthfully.
Well I have always known I was diffenrent, and then a friend of mine introduced me to one of her friend who was a vampire, and that is how I found out what I as, but he can only help me with some of it. So I did my research and started accepting the conditions. Then I thought it would be interesting to start from a scientific point of view and that was rewarding as well.
ive been hooked on vampires since i saw the original dracula the blck and white one and nosferatu when i was a kid ...
i think i was very young, when my aunt started to read me vampire books, watched vampire movies and dressed up as them for Halloween
so by then i was facinated with ghosts, witches and vampires
It has always just been something I have known...
like you know the sun will rise and it will set, it has merely always been with me
I had always loved vampires and other dark things, even as a child...when i truly started to pursue it was when I turned 10...my two older brothers were already in to it, and they were the ones that started me off...They have taught me alot since then...
i guess
when i was a kid
i was just trying to find who i was in the world...
and then, i found the vampyre...
when i was a kid .. like around 5.. my mommy was watching some movie.. *of course i forget* lol.. and i loved the look of a vampire. I though they were so "cool". the makeup is what got me.. I loved that chalky white skin. black eyes. bloody lips.. i loved it.. and the cape and how tall they were also got me into it. i would watch those horror movies all the time.. and i still do.. for some reason.. when i am depressed.. those make me feel better.
Surprisingly enough it was probably 30 or so years ago. Abbott & Costello meet frankenstein or something like that. Dracula was in it and that was my 1st taste of Vampires. Ever since they have always caught & kept my attention. Not so much that I believe I am one or live the lifestyle or anything.
I had older brothers so they were all into the dark side including music when normal 10 year olds were listening to stuff duran duran and what not i was listening to Black sabbath, Kiss, Ac-DC,scorpions and watching stuff i am sure my parents had no clue i was watching.lol.
I got in to vampires last year when i started to listen to rock music. Then when i was searching for some song i stumbled upon a site that had vampires and read more about them and became very interested in them.
I beleive I was 8 or 9. I caught snippets of Vampire Hunter D on television.
I was always interest from then on-- being a vampire also when I was little, even before then, not knowing what exactly it was!
I suppose looking back I was almost 'ingrained' with the psi feeding ability.
I came across it a long time ago on IRC. At that time it was a ffrp channel and everybody would have fun with everyone else. Especially torturing th newbies. Ah the old days. Well eventually as time passed I had to be away fro longer periods of time due to school. I'm back now though so it's all good
i was very young and caught a vampire movie on tv it was in b&w so it was an older one ever since i've been hooked
as to vamps....very very young..I was raised around horror/thriller movies...tho as to the concept of psi vampires...that came much later...after i was already acting as one in fact.
I actually was always more inclined towards the djinn than vampires....
and I don't mean the hollywood version...I mean greater spirits/demons, bound within an object and forced to seerve an eternity
Wow...well my mother was alway interested in them. The movies at least. Soo I grew up watching them, always drawn to them. Then about 10yrs ago I found out that there was truly a lifestyle followed, and was very intrigued then and began learning what I could...I actually found out that I exhibited psy-vampiric traits...and now the more I learn the more I am intrigued.
when i was a kid, my dad always watched the show dark shadows an' i became more infatuated everyday....
I can't remember EXACTLY when it was, but I think I was around a preteen (12 years or 11 years old) when I found out about vampires. I was actually playing a nintendo game called Castlevania III, I'm sure most of you have heard of it. But anyway, There was this vampire that was helping to destroy Dracula. The reason I bought the game in the first place was because I was interested in the whole Dracula vampire thing. So, I guess my "interest" started there. After that, I basically kept building up my library of knowledge about vampires, vampirism, etc.
Toby if you don't have Dark Shadows on dvd you should get it .I'd love to watch every last known and unknown episode with you. It was one of my all time fave tv shows growing up and I don't watch much tv. ;)
there's more to the story leslie but i can only tell you....it's too explicit to write on here....
oOo Well then the phone call in a bit will be a rather interesting one. :)
when i was a kid and heard of a great book called Dracula
