I want to know peoples opinion of the show Ghost Hunters and the possible occupation of a "ghost hunter"
I took a class on ghost hunting from Patti Starr....who has been on at least the local tv stations often. It was an interesting class..all about the different kinds of ghosts, camera angles and recordings and so forth. Even bought the ghost "diviners".....lol...... never been out of the package but hey I have them for the next time I feel a ghost.
Don't believe everything you see on tv. The producers need to make it exciting for the cameras.
As for starting a business. You need a market in your area. The equipment, you can find in hardware stores and camera stores. No need to order anything expensive. Tape recorder, thermal reader of some kind and a couple of cameras with different kinds of speed film.
The ghosts need to be cooperative more than anything.
I have to agree with BillytheJust..TV is what it is..they usually make things more extreme & alter the truth alot of times fust to make them exciting! Also you can find most things you need in alot of retail stores. I would suggest alot of research before attempting to try it though!
Even though I believe ghosts are a possibly, I think many of the things you see on TV are a fraud or merely there for ratings. If believe in ghosts is possible with the general public, you will see a slew of shows on the subject. It is just a way for the networks to get ratings and advertising dollars.
If you are really interested in this as an occupation, I would do extensive research in the subject and make sure you have a gift for it.
In my last post, I meant even though I believe ghosts are a possibility. Sorry I used the wrong word and if it caused any confusion.
I agree with billy.
It isn't all fun and games, and idk to me it doesn't seem so interesting, ive seen too many studies done, people are gullible.
i have done ghost hunting professionally for 12 years now. i learned old school ways of doing this when i first started out in the business. and billythejust is right you dont have to have all the fancy equipment that they have on the show...but having that stuff is also nice as well. i started with mirrors and tape recorders and the such..even as far as putting flour down on the floor to see if they left any prints in it. but the newer equipment makes it easier for all to use. i use the new the newer equipment myself because it does beat the hell outta doing it old school lol
now as far as the show goes. i have to agree with billy the just. there once was a person who taught me to believe nothing you hear and half of what you see. they have to make the company happy but at the same time they could actually be experiencing these things. no one knows because it is on tv. until you do it your self you will really nev er know what kind of things are out there that may or may not want to be known.
I don't know much about "hunting" ghosts however for the last month or so I've been reading on EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon). Ever see the movie White noise? Yeah, that's the idea but it was utter bull.
Rather than bore you with the details I'll post this and strongly urge you to check it out. If you ADD check out the sample recordings. They're good for a shiver.
I'm hesitant to try EVP only for the fact that I'm a huge chicken when it comes to interacting with the energies of death.
the problem i have is that they (TV SHOW) only go to an area for a breif time...try to entice the entity to do something and then leave. and because the do not get anything recorded they debunk it.
Spirits, entities and demons do not come on command!
i belive the show does make it more exciting for the viewers ..... although like they said before on a small time period and ghost not always showing them selves they spruse it up a lot....my girls like watching the show and after words they are always interested in talking about it and the aspect that ghost and outher paranormal stuff does exist so it make for a great family night...... a show and intelectual coversation with the kids....cant beat that.....
I definitely enjoy the show. It is quite interesting. But you can never tell how real it really is.
As far as the occupation of ghost hunter is concerned, well, who's going to pay you? :)
Billy has a good point.
I thoroughly enjoy the show and never believe all I see and hear on TV. Still very entertaining and can see very unusual places.
True, one can ghost hunt with average equipment you can find anywhere, fancy stuff is great when you can get it, but can do a decent job without it.
I do believe in ghosts & spirits but I don't like the show. Knowing the time constraints and pleasing their sponsors need makes it too unrealistic for me. I agree with their earlier post they won't come out on command for the short time the film crew is around.
I actually live by one of the most haunted graveyards in pennsylvania. it has become such a popular place that there are many ghost hunters that go there from all over the state. most of the graves are dated to the turn of the century and many even further as there are many that date to the civil war
The ghost hunters that have been there have quite interesting reports of the place. infact around halloween they did an entire week long segment reporting many of thd findings they have made. but as for the show ghost hunters i think it is just fabricated and it is possible they found these things at these places but highly doubtfull that all the things on the show are real, im sure they add plenty of things like you guys said to make the show interesting and worth watching
We have our own little special history at my high school, that to this day, remains unsolved. Constant wailing is heard by the staff during the night in one of the dormitories, every December 15th. Why, we're still not sure...
There was a thread about the show recently, in which the validity of the show was discussed. My belief is that, yes, the show is probably "enhanced" for the sake of good TV, but if you watch the show, even when they seem to come up with good evidence, they aren't usually quick to jump to the "Oh yes, you're house/building is haunted" conclusion. They are usually pretty good about trying to and suceeding in debunking a lot of things.
As far as the occupation of ghost hunter is concerned, I think that if we ever want to prove or disprove the existance of ghosts, it will come down to what kind of evidence these people can come up with. So I believe it is a valid occupation.
Oh, and by the way, T.A.P.S. doesn't make a profit off of any of their ghost hunts (with the exception of merchandising profit), so to me, that makes them even more valid.
I guess wether or not a busines would thrive would depend on your ability to get funding and grants from the fed. You'd be amazed at what the government pays out every year.
from a validity point of view I would like to point out that one of the "ghost hunting" shows recently had a pro wrestler on the show... IMO kinda makes you question any credibility the show may have had.
i love ghosts, but i think ghost hunters is mostly fake. if they're professionals then a simple real haunting shouldn't be able to get them to shake in their boots. they act as if they had never encountered a ghost before.
I'm with thedarkx, spirits shouldn't be commanded.
If someone is going to communicate with 'ghosts' they should at least have the courtesy to stick around for a while. Make a date of it, do it regularly. *shrug* It's only polite.
It is a hit or miss situation. Something is there when the hunters are there or it is not... like what was said, they dont appear on command..there may be residual energy or the like in a given haunted area, if no ghosts make an appearance that could be documented in a way.
it'd be interesting to go to one of these places and jsut experiance the energies there. A friend mentions that some of the graveyards in her area are haunted.
i love that show. i've got some of the dvd's. since i've always been into the paranormal, and know that ghost can't really hurt you unless they use a LOT of energy to manifest, i think that i'd be a good "ghost hunter". i've always been sort of a magnet for the paranormal and such, so it would only make sense to try to help disembodied spirits and the people that they're "taunting". remember. . .ghosts were people, too. . .
if this is something that you are wanting to do, just make sure that you are doing it for the right reasons, and not for the publicity that ghost hunters recieves. just for that reason alone, makes me wonder how much their hearts are into this,
Just another aspect of the validity of "Ghost Hunters." I do believe it is possible to find evidence of ghosts. I have never studied how and wouldn't know anything about what you can and can not use, but sometimes I can sense it on my own, as I believe everyone potentially could. Either way, I am curious to know if anyone believes that ghosts can harm the living. I would think that if this was possible, people who choose ghost hunting as a career would have unexplainable "accidents" or mysterious harm done to them. For example, if someone saw a ghost or believed one was near them and got so scared they died of a heart attack. I know thats a cliche, but you get my point. I believe among ghosts there are the belligerent ones who may do things to hurt living people even though it wouldn't be direct. It just leaves me to think if ghosts really occupied all the places those people investigate, they would be bound to find ghosts not wanting them around, and if it is true that ghosts could cause indirect harm to the living, more of those guys would be getting hurt in some way, or more mysterious things in that sense would probably happen.
Well I do beleive in ghost hunting. As for the show I know allot of it has to do with ratings and gathering audiences. I dont beleive all of what you see on tv. An actual ghost hunt takes time because like others said they dont come on demand.
I agree with the majority that the Tv shows are more hype and out for the big dollar. We had a similar show here in Australia and I think the only episode that was pretty genuine was when they went to a place here in Queensland called Bogo Road Jail... I am not sure how old it is but it is one of the most haunted places in Australia and I have always wanted to do a ghost tour where you get to stay for as long as you can handle it... I have known people that have gone on the tour and refuse to go back because of the things they saw and heard. Sends a delicious chill down the spine thinking about it!
You also have to figure in that most of the time ghost hunting is boring as hell. You don't get many hits and often the ones you do are false reads. The TV show is probably nice because all you end up seeing is the success rate of whatever they figure you will buy as being a ghost.
Okay, I have to say that I'm a little irked at some of the posts on here. Especially the ones that are specifically aimed at the show Ghost Hunters. I mean, I'm not disagreeing that there's a really good chance that there's a lot of editing on the "what you see during the investigation" end of it, but they really don't jump on the haunted band wagon all the time. Plus, they were doing the ghost hunting before they actually made a show documenting it. I just think that not enough people give them credit for maybe being legitimate ghost hunters.
It probably isn't so much that they don't believe that they aren't ghost hunters it is that they sold out and now commercially market what used to be important research for a lot of people.
They took the sacred out of it and commercialized it for profit. If they were willing to go that far what else are they doing behind the scenes now that their intentions may or may not be prioritized towards financial gain?
Okay, I can see your point, but on the flip side of that coin, you also have to consider the results of the show. How often do the debunk possible hauntings? If they were in it solely for the profit, then wouldn't they try to make it out that everywhere they went was successful in finding a real or true haunting?
Ghost Hunters..
Me I`m a die hard fan..
I love the show regardless if it real or not.
The last one I seen Is the one about the Elemental. It was great they went in Leaps Castle. One of the guys was actually attacked. I would love to go to the places they have in a sense you do go with them when you tune in to their program . I would never be able to go to all of the places they have, but by watching their show I`m with them every step of the way ! So I say feel free to watch the show , and join them in their hunts. I would love to meet Grant Jason , Brain and the others who knows maybe one day . I would like to see them do more haunts in The UK , and other countries I think a great place for them to do a show would be Mexico on the day of the dead..
The show is a sham, there is no such things as ghosts, they let their minds play tricks on them...nothing more.
is that really fair to say, that there is no such thing as ghosts? do you have proof? some people would say that there are no such things as vampires too.
well i wasent really thinking about going into the profession anyway, im gonna go to college for music, i was just asking a generalized question that like do you thinkin its a waste of a person life to hunt something such as ghosts
No i dont
Nothing we do here is a waste of time everything is for growth i have been asked i am thinking about doing just that watch for ripple to come also a great store in southeastern wisconsin the ripple is the name of the store after the greatful dead
sacredDefiance -
yes, they do tend to disprove more than prove. as a matter of fact, Jason hates to use the word "haunted" at all. he never jumps to conclusions, and is always asking "Is there something else causing this?". i would really recommend the show to anyone myself. :)
I must agree with billythejust, not everything on tv can be believed. Many shows fabricate the very things they are trying to show, merely to draw the audience in to keep them watching more. To them its not about finding ghosts, its about making money.
I think that the name it self negates the show...... the word HUNTER ... by any other...mean to hunt down and kill.....i have not seen this on any of the episodes... But hey their making that money and that seems to be all that matters...
I do believe in ghost hunters and paranormal phenominon, but I do not think that all of the TV shows are real. They have to be made exiting, as someone already said, so wether or not there really are spirits there, the people will make it look like there are. But I do believe that some people really can hunt them, just not all the television shows.
BloodDrinker wrote: The last one I seen Is the one about the Elemental. It was great they went in Leaps Castle. One of the guys was .....
Wondering where on earth her body was when apparently her spirit was out playing in Leaps Castle??????
(oh come on......smile)
In any case, as is often the case, something that can be simple and fun has been turned into high dollar technology (both in the actual technology used to "hunt" ghosts and in the technology to put it on tv)
well i agree with all of you, 99.9 percent of anything having to deal with paranormal activity is a facade on TV, and shows like ghost hunters make ghosts seem like they're ignorant about todays sociaty and technology, if you were a ghost and somebody says "give us a sign your here" and they had a camera personally i wouldnt give them i sign...well maybe i would but it wouldnt be a brush of cold wind or a light flicker, id make some shit happen to where they're so scared out of the wits, but thats just me liking to get a rise out of people
Well to some extent I agree about TV being fake . I have seen the CPP on VH1 and it is obvious they add things . I do recall amny episodes on Ghost Hunters where pretty much nothing was found . So if things were added on Ghost Hunters why would they have an episode of all explained things ?
There is a show on Travel channel called "Most Haunted " I believe from England . I do not care for it because all of it revolves around the psychics . I know not these psychics and with that know not if they are honest or any good .
I like Ghost Hunters and have done some amateur hunting , but would very much like to have access to there type of equipment .
I think if you are honest and don't think everything is a ghost blindly , then it is a legitimate field to study . You know not all things are ghosts and sometimes there are other not so paranormal answers for things .
Remember during the Middle Ages what we now call science was called Witchcraft . If it wasn't for those dabblers in Witchcraft we would have no science today .
They did an episode here in Wilmington, the one about the battleship USS North Carolina, and I was pleased with their findings.
I have been on that ship quite a few times, and I will personally state that the ship haunted. Without a doubt in my mind.
I have been in a few areas that most people arent allowed in and, aside from an obvious presence felt, I have seen stuff that couldnt have been natural.
That, and they were really nice guys.
Elemental
Does it really matter if money is made on the ghost hunts? Does it really matter that people think it`s fake no it is entertainment ...
my 9th grade history teacher is a firm believer in ghosts cuz every year he takes some students to the gettysburg battle field and at night if you take pictures theres just a whole field of orbs and they have on camera some paranormal thing happening i cant remember what and then theres a picture he has and it double exposed or something but it wasent a normal double exposure i wish i remember what it was buts its been 2 years since ive seen the pics or him for that matter.
how many ghost hunters are real or just out there for the profit and money?of corse in Your opinion
it could be a huge debate on whether ghosts can be hunted and examined, but yes ive seen the show and tho they have found evidence of paranormal, you will never knw if its real or not because it is "reality" television!
Does anyone care that Jason and Grant on Ghost Hunters are plumbers as well as ghost hunters??? They aren't just making money off of the investigations they do! Plus, as I stated before...they do not charge the people they go and investigate for ANY money for going and doing it! Come on people, cut them a LITTLE slack!
sleen
No it doesnt matter that people make money off of entertainment, but I think if the average person wanted to "hunt" they need to keep in mind that a lot of the techmology is not needed, it can just be fun and simple.
I think it is interesting to watch, but I'm not sure it's 100% accurate or that they aren't just making things up
I just have a problem with the time the allow...even half a day will not accurately allow for research
My problem with it is that it hasnt been on for the last two weeks and i looked forward to it but tonight is a show called a haunting and this show is creepy i love it
I love ghost hunters I watch it everytime it is on. I don't care I would do anything that they offer just to work with them.
ghosts see trucks pull up with "Ghost Hunters" written on the side, of course theyre not gonna play along. what if a friend sees them on this silly program? they'll never live it down... well you know what i mean..
besides who likes to be "hunted?" esp if its just for amusement.
Personally, i think it's a great show, but it is probably fake. I always thought that it would be cool to be a ghost hunter though.
Again, I feel that there are physical readings, a chemistry, that does prove the existance of ghosts. We all can't be schitzophrenic, can we? I have seen, felt and dreamt ghosts. I have met others that have. Even "Oprah after the show" she said she saw a ghost. Come on 9,000,000 people can't be wrong.
I love the show, the guys are really nice. I met them when they came here to do the show on the USS North Carolina.
I love watching the show for one reason b/c it is hilarious to see a person get scared of something I dont believe exists.
i have'ent hunted them but I found them or at least they find me
I like the show just as I liked the show (okay, loved the show) FEAR that was on MTV a while back.
There was an episode of FEAR I was weaty of because when my dad came in, he shuckled and sat down to watch it with me. I asked why e was so interested and he grinned sayig "that place really IS haunted. That's the ship I served on. That deck always creeped the hell out of me." I nearly pissed myself laughing. It's all a psych-out thing, that's why I adore it.
watched the show couple times...kinda liked it...and yes there are a few ppl that work as ghost hunters ...I know 2 of em
i have never watched the show, but for many of you who say ghosts dont exists i think you may need to try some ghost hunting and im sure you will have a different thought about them being real or not after you try it
I think the show sheds light on our knowledge of the spirtual being that we encounter. As for knowing what to do with what they find, I don't know.
i myself do believe in ghost, spirits, supernaturals. but when it come to TV they tend to make it more interesting for the viewers. thats how the ratings go up.
the cams shoulda been at my house when my grandfather went on. They wouldda seen him sittin on my bed. It was awesome, but sad too
idk about the show but the occupation is definitely possible. i definitely believe we need people who are ghost hunters since many places these days do have ghosts in them.

I will say that I enjoy watching the show. It is fun, but I personally enjoy going ghost hunting more. It is a hobby that I have loads of fun with. We have indeed come across encounters and they were exciting but not scary to me. Of course to some if they arent there they wont believe it, but OMG I would love to take anyone that wanted to come here to a few places. lol. Its a blast. :)
...I saw the show...It was okay.
Personally I'm getting really sick of sounds being added to try and boost the suspense.
It gets irritating when the camera starts shaking because they're trying to make it scary.
Plus it's hard to believe when they very rarely get anything on tape and when they do it's terrible quality.
Plus, EVERY time they hear something they start talking immediately so you can't hear whatever they heard...It's just badly done to me.
But I love the concept of looking for ghosts and I do believe in them.
I like watching the show but I must admit I sometimes wonder if it's for real or not. I mean I know it happens, but to catch things on film I think would be hard, and they do need to make the ratings or they are canceled
I agree, it is about ratings. That is why it irritates me so much. I wish maybe they would space it out more and instead of trying desperately to capture things and say that every noise is a ghost.
Gah, it just irritates me in general when people do that.
Ever wonder why they act so "scared" and "surprised" why they think they see or hear somethin? give me a break..its why they r there..the show in theory is a good one, but I like the Britt shows better.
I am curious if that is what they put on their tax return under "occupation"?
If Im thinking about the right Ghost Hunters show, then I think they put down either plumber, police officer, and there are someother things...But I might have the worng show!
I've watched the show and I find it and I like it but I think that some of it isn't real. I don't know about all of it, but I personally like to watch it.
My friend Ghost Hunts but I never have and I think it'd be a fun occupation. I'm going to stick with being a doctor though. xD
Love the show its entertaining but as for the true nature of a "ghost hunter" no for I think the show has its quirks and what not
is that an actual occupation
"ghost hunting"
if so, its one job i'l never do........
People should let the spirits have there peace
i love the show and watch it all the time.. I would love to go on just one trip with them ... To see for myself all they see and do.
I believe that the ghosts are either demons, angels, or energy trapped here from someone. Although I don't think it is the persons soul itself.
It's more of a novelty business then anything else but I do think it would be fun to start one.
well i watched it like 3 times and it seemed like they never really found anything so i stopped watching.
ive seen the show and i think that the producers of the show over dramatize the events that happen.if they didnt they would have no viewers.
however if there were such a career as a ghost hunter i would be the first in line.
It seemed like a joke sry i thought the show was a rip-off
I like the show Ghost Hunters. I like that someone out there is attempting to collect scientific information of the unexplained. The men on that show are honest. If they don't get readings, they tell them. If they find a cold spot, they check for an open window or a problem in the furnance. I respect that.
it's a nice show, but it's hard to tell if it's a bunch of bull or not.
You know what's funny is that I don't go out looking for ghosts but they sure do fine me. LOL. Sometimes it's not so funny.
I think watching Ghost Hunters is a cool way to past the time. Its the better than most of the other stuff on t.v.
Ghosts exist....but I do not believe that they should be hunted. Unless they are causing some sort of intolerable disturbance, then, that is understandable, but it should be controlled! Spirits, harmless spirits need not be destroyed, such as passive vampires or lycans don't cause infinate harm to anyone and shouldn't be eradicated, not all ghosts do either.
Ghost Hunters is a good show, I think it does give people a run for their money. I myself have seen ghosts and experienced wierd things which can't be explained logically. But sometimes that show is a bit too theatrical in someways and over done.
I believe that there are "ghost hunters" out there that do some really good research on paranormal activity. But, I do think that televisin tends to over dramatize certain events. I would like to go to an old castle and research different activities. I believe some areas are more apt to have paranormal activity then other areas. There is a lot of research that is available on the internet about different areas and studies that have been conducted from several different experts.
The research aspect is a good one but I dont know how many times I have watched the show and they say did y hear/see that? and I dont..could be me..the show should go to where my sister lived in NH..."something" turned on the burners on her gas stove one at a time while her hubby stood there and watched...THAT was creepy
I agree with Billy the Just. That show is so Hollywood.
As for actual ghost hunting and ghost hunters, I think it would be an interesting thing to do.
It's the thrill of the chase.
As for the television show I think that is the biggest bunch of B.S. that I have ever seen. I have never seen anything on the show that would make me think that they weren't just faking things to obtain ratings. I tried watching it a few times and just couldn't tolerate it. I do believe that there ghosts and that to be an actual ghost hunter would be cool.
I have to disagree. I've watched every single episode of Ghost hunters. and let me tell you, there have been plenty of boring episodes where absolutely nothing happens. For example, at the famous remmington (the gun) mansion, they said that there was no ghost. They disproved their camera or pictures. They immediately discount any orbs. I think they approach it very scientifically.
I enjoy the show . But some of the things that happen are hard to believe.
I have to agree with some of the above responses... I've seen Ghost Hunters and while the places they visit are extremely interesting, one must remember that it is a TV show and that it could just be hype. I am not at all saying that ghost hunting is illigitimate, just that you can't believe everything you see on tv.
