I've noticed a few people here know a lot about the bible - and quite a few seem to believe it word for word - so......
how many of you are not really vampires, but vampire hunters and slayers trying to learn as much as they can about the "enemy"? dont be shy, we're all anonymous here.

The bible is a book like any other and if one wishes to engage in philosophy or religious discussion, it doesn't hurt to know the subject. I also like the phrase "Know thy enemy" but I've yet to get that promotion in hell.

I don't think knowing the bible really means that a person is a slayer. I mean, there ARE religious vampires.

Simply because you know the Bible and it's contents does not mean that you are a vampyre hunter. I am very familiar with the scripture but am also a psy vamp. I think that it is good to understand various religions even if you do not believe in them. It will provide you with additional insight. As I have always said, everyone must keep an open mind.

as much as i hate it I'm forced to go to church which means I'm around the bible. do i read it? no. i don't like having to choose or be forced into a religion. i don't have a religion at this time.

as for the part about being a slayer, i kind of see how the bible relates to being one. from what i do know about the bible, it tells what is considered to be sinful. through the eyes of a slayer, vampires would be sinful. blood drinkers who harm others for their life essence. of coarse I'm not one. i personally prefer vampires over slayers.

To my knowledge I'm not a hunter/slayer. I'm haven't completely discovered who I am. That's why I'm here, so that I can do a little soul searching.

I love to read and gain knowledge so that I may be able to have an intelligent conversation. The bible is an instrument in learning. For others it's a part of their firm beliefs and religion.

I have read the bible but for reference only. When I am involved with open discussion about after life or my life I don't like to go in unarmed. And you would not believe how many people misquote there own beliefs. I have also read about alot of other religions. People pick and choose what they want to live by or preach.

i am raised by a religious family and enrolled in catholic schools from pre-school to secondary so i may say that i have considerable knowledge on the bible. unfortunately, i ended up now as an agnostic.

though i'm not a vampire, i can say that im very interested in creatures of the dark, conspiracy theories and underground societies...

if there would be a chance, i would of course want to be a vampire and be an immortal

Illuminata, what is so unfortunate about being agnostic? It simply means that you have grown up and learned to not accept concepts part and parcel just because you grew up with them. There's nothing unfortunate about that.

There is no relationship between "slayers" and the Bible. There are those who play LARP games who think they are slayers, and then there are some out there who have a mission fom Jewah to kill the demonic creatures of the night. They use crossbows and collect bounties from a secret Vatican organization related to the inquisition.

i refer to the bible a bit... and i know it. but that is because my path is nothing more than a small road off of judeo-christianity that few walk or even realize exists. i'm not a hunter however. malevolant things are all i'm after... and usually only when they come after me or my group. also... i'd be a self-loather and be hunting alot of friends.
if you are confused with where i stand... message me... i know that what i'm saying is filled with complexities and probably calling into question what i say, it's hard to explain to others my path and my life.

Like it or not - there are religious extremists out there who consider vampires to be evil. there are plenty of psychos who use the bible as an excuse to stalk and kill prostitutes, loose women, homosexuals, and anyone else they think they have a right to kill. it would be naive to believe vampires dont come on their list somewhere.

I do understand your point that you were trying to get to. But you should have worded it a little different. Like where in the bible dose it say that you can kill someone for being different vampire hunter or not. But eather way its not right. To attack someone or something just cus its different. If there is any slayer/hunters on here I would like to know why the do hunt us?

well said. i agree entirely with you. but some people are unbalanced, and they often use a mixture of fiction and some holy book or other as a focal point for their obsession. such people are frequently out of touch with reality, and often find themselves isolated from other people. so they spend more time on the internet than socializing. that makes them very likely to find there way here - so i'd be very surprised if there isn't at least one self styled vampire killer amongst us

not trying to make anyone paranoid though.

People come up with the strangest threads, I tell ya. I know many hunters, and slayers...almost personally because they can't catch me. Either that, or they can't keep up. Just because of someone's religious beliefs does not make them a slayer, any more than it would make us a vampire for believing in satan.

DemianA - Why would they still be using crossbows? That's just silly...the Glock is far more effective and really a lot easier to walk around with :) Besides, the Vatican is more interested in making money with it's mafia and P2 connections than with carrying on some long ago inquisition into heretics and demons.

Jenova - I understand a bit of Illuminata's circumstance. Not having a faith means that everything must be relied upon by you. Not having a faith means not being able to look for a 'higher guidance' or a reason behind it all. It can be quite rough in dark times.

FallenXAngel and Karnstein - the Bible does often quote righteous warfare and righteous killing - One only has to look at the first born of Egypt to see that. However, the bible also states that you should obey local laws providing they don't directly go against your faith (see Daniel's time in Babylon). So outright murder, even if it were righteous murder, would be sinful in itself. Jesus' stories in the New Testament also state that these righteous killings are less accepted when he stopped a crowd from stoning a prostitute. (that's that whole "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" bit)

et all - I really just can't believe that slayers are out there hunting down psy-vamps. Not in any organized fashion and not beyond an addle brained few who would be better of in therapy than 'hunting the worlds evil'. That's what we have Buffy for.

most serial killers never get caught - i'm guessing a lot don't go for therapy either. i know for a fact that there are organised gangs of fundamentalists that see it as their duty to hunt out Pagans - friends of mine have fallen victim to them. a lot of people consider their beliefs put them above the law, and that the law is itself wrong. the bible is full of contradictions, and people pick and choose what they want from it. i'm not saying everyone who reads the bible is a psychotic killer - but when they study it every waking hour, and use it to wallpaper their rooms - you gotta wonder.

yes we have serial killers and it is such a shame when the unstable look at a book and say this is how it is saposed to be..... this is what i interpret out of it...... so i shall go on a killing spree..and rid the world of those who are wrong... and i guess that in a sence that they would consider themselves a hunter/slayer for there cause..........but i think all it really proves is that they are insane..... and no i dont think some of the serial killers ever get help for there disorders ... because in there minds there is nothing wrong with them.........

Karnstein - what do you mean "fallen victim to them"? You have multiple friends who've been killed by an organized gang of fundamentalists christian 'pagan hunters'? And the police 'looked the other way'? And the news refuses to cover it? And pagan organizations don't warn about them because their in on it? And no fundamentalist has had a change of heart and come forward? Or were they killed too?

I'm sorry if that came across a bit harsh. It's just that when one uses a personal non-verifiable and vague example of a terrible experience as a means of closing a question about a subject, it's a bit of a cop-out.

You say something terrible happened to people you know and I'm supposed to be gracious enough to accept you at your word about the circumstances since questioning it would open painful emotional wounds.

To the initial question: I was spent 13 years in a Catholic school which equates to mass 3 times a week, and 50 minutes of theology 5 days a week. Just because I was raised in the Church does not mean that I believe in it.

Second as to the personal experience as the be all best answer... one incident even if true does not allow for a blanketing of everyone.

I haven;t taken this question quite so politically.
I see your point.
I am not sure exactly what I am, because I could nto live the life I wanted if I was a Vampire. I am as close to one as I can be, I also have kids to consider. Maybe if I was child-less, it;d be easier for me to delve into the depths and darkness.
But I know what I am NOT. I am NOT a hunter. I am an admirer thats for sure.

Karnstein, I think your point about us being aware that many do use the bible, the koran, and other religious text to justify their unbalanced or even pyscotic behavior is well worth discussing. I was brought up catholic and I have studied the bible and early church fathers. I've been led more toward earth based religions. I guess the interest explains why I minored in philosophy as an ungrad student.

I am neither a slayer, hunter, or vampire. I was raised as a Catholic, and have read parts of the Bible. Whether or not you read the Bible, everyone has their own opinions on everything, some believe in vampires and some don't. I however enjoy learning about vampires. The Vampire Realm has always interested me.

i had considered posting this thread as a poll rather than a forum question - but i'm glad i didn't - i'm getting much more interesting and varied points of view. there is nothing wrong with reading the bible - but quoting it is quite something else. i've read bits of it myself - the bit about loose women and casting off shoes had me in stitches.

Those posting on this thread seem to have just as little an idea of what a vampire hunter is as what a vampire is.

Just because you taste the blood of your partner or friend does not make you a vampire any more than playing with a toy gun makes you a cowboy or a soldier. Those who believe they drain energy from others are not vampires either. They use the word as an adjective (like vampire bat), not as a noun (like vampire which means something very different to people who mimic to some small degree cinematic and literary fictional vampires).

So if the concept of vampires is misunderstood, how much more will the concept of vampire hunters not be comprehended. And what has reading the Bible got to do with hunting vampires?!!!

The bible has nothing to do with being a hunter/slayer other than the fact that they use it to justify their actions. Just like others have done thoughout history, and this includes murderers, serial killers, religious fanatics, kings, emporers, as well as the church itself.

It is, without a doubt, the greatest book ever written. I mean what other reading material can you twist to mean what you want it too, pick and choose what you want in order to live your life by it.

What other book indeed...

The Q'uran
The Book of Mormon
LaVey's Satanic Bible
Modern Witchcraft
Machiavelli's "The Prince"

The list goes on I'm afraid. Any work can be interpreted by someone differently and used by less than stable people as motivation for harm. Any book that evokes a philosophy can be interpreted as a way of life with strikingly different results depending on the reader.

I must start off by saying, no one gives two shits about the zealot sean manchester, so I do hope no one wants to drag him into it, im sure he is busy filming a tv show anyway. now....

You wanna go and "slay" someone you will get 25 to life like anyone else, see you may think you are killing a "vampire" but according to the rest of the world you are killing a human being. "that isn't a real slayer" uh huh well some claim that is what these "slayers" attempt to do, slay. And if you want to take that title you better be slaying something. By the way the bible in one breath says not to kill then in another says to kill, this is called say it with me.... contradiction. So either way it is BS. How can something "divinely inspired" contradict itself, hundreds of times I might add. I do have the examples :)

That must just be a term people recently coined..."lycan" because I look all over and all I find is underworld shit. No one seems to be able to explain that one, it has no traceable historical value whatsoever.

Anyhow, everyone wishes to protect people they love from anything that poses a threat, this is nothing new.

Hunters

There are real hunters as well as real vampyres. These hunters are both male and female; gender does not matter. Actual hunters have only one thing in mind: too really harm the Vampyre, sometimes to even kill their prey. There are three main classes of hunters: the Religious Hunter, the Sports Hunter, and the Revenge Hunter.

The Religious Hunter

This person can be of any religion. Mostly these hunters are Christian, but there have been Jewish hunters and Moslem hunters. The Religious Hunter is convinced that the Vampyre is a servant of the Devil.
'A Spawn of Hell.' An actual demon with the power to steal souls and beguile the innocent. The religious hunter feels that killing a demon is not a sin, and truly believes that all vampyres, or those claiming to be vampyres, are pure evil.
It is not against their morals or religious convictions to kill in the name of God or to kill that which they feel is evil. They are very dangerous as they often refuse to listen to (or believe) the truth, feeling that a 'demon' always lies and is not to be trusted. They often feel it is their duty to destroy vampyres.
These people also feel there is a plot afoot by Vampyres and by the Goth movement through out the world especially in America, Germany and some other countries, that the Goth movement is a plot to corrupt the innocent of the world (i.e.: the children or other people), these hunters are also bent on targeting these people. Deprogramming, religious indoctrination and even killings are their way of dealing with this perceived threat on the morals of civilization.

The Sports Hunter

He or she, just like a hunter of small or large animals, hunts for sport. The thrill of the chase; and the thrill of the kill. Because the sport hunter loves the hunt as much as the conquest, this hunter will often warn his prey, the Vampyre, of his intentions to harm or kill it. In that way he knows the Vampyre will be alert to the threat and offer him a better and more interesting hunt. He knows the Vampyre to be as dangerous a prey as any large or small animal and he or she knows the Vampyre will do all that is necessary to defend itself and protect its friends and family.
So, mostly the hunter will warn the Vampyre either be declaring who he or she is and challenging the Vampyre, or by stalking it first, doing small things like harassing it and stalking it to let it know he or she is there. In some rare occasions, a sport hunter will just attack the Vampyre with no warning but that is not likely.
The sport hunter hunts for sport, to be matched and to have the thrill of a dangerous situation. If he or she really feels superior to his or her prey, he or she will let them know who he or she is and what he intends. If not, the hunter then stalks and tries to use psychology to unnerve his or her prey. The religious hunter is often more silent in his intent for he or she believes the Vampyre to possess supernatural powers and gives no warning most of the time.

The Revenge Hunter

This is a person who hunts to avenge someone he or she knows; it could be either a Vampyre or a human.
Example 1: A hunter killed a Vampyre and a friend of the Vampyre went after this hunter.
Example 2: The Vampyre killed a hunter and that hunter's friend went forth to hunt his or her friend's killer.
Anyone who hunts to even a score is a revenge hunter.

There is also a third kind of hunter, but we cannot actually say this is a true hunter.
This is the Vampyre itself. Hunting other vampyres, usually for criminal reasons. This hunter is the Vampyre 'policeman.' It is his or her job to track down, bring to justice or destroy the criminal Vampyre, the rogue Vampyre who breaks the laws of his or her Vampyre order or community. These Vampyre hunters deal only with other vampyres. Their laws are very harsh for those who break the rules.
Inheritors can usually pick up on a hunter; most Classical and other race designations, unless the individual is very psychic, cannot do so. Hunters are usually good computer hackers or detectives and can successfully trick certain agencies or organizations into giving out an address or phone number. Most hunters mean to do harm, or really kill, that which they hunt. Caution should be taken for every threat. However, many are just playing, role playing or pretending. So you need not totally panic at every threat.

Apparently AntiEveryone "gives two shits" about Seán Manchester, otherwise why mention him? Nobody else has on this thread. It seems some people have an unhealthy obsession with attacking Seán Manchester whenever and wherever they can. But you only attack what you fear.

Neither Seán Manchester nor anyone associated with him believes that vampires are human beings. If others think differently and are trying to "slay" people who follow vampiroid lifestyles they are obviously wrong. Those within vampire subculture are not the target of genuine vampire hunters who will be the first to admit that vampires (predatory demonic entities in either spectral or corporeal form) cannot be "slain" - they can only be cast out, ie exorcised.

The Bible can be viewed as a lot of apparent contardictions when read from an atheistic viewpoint, but when understood from a particular perspective it is clear. For example, the Old Testament is superseded by the New Testament for Christians, so what went before Christ becomes replaced by what is recorded after Christ with the fulfilment of earlier prophecy. Nowhere does it say in the New Testament to kill anyone. Quite the reverse. But it does say that believers will cast out demons in Christ's name. It also teaches that our enemies are not people, but "spirits of evil" which occupy dark places, tempting and tormenting the living.

so what was the crusades all about then? did none of the crusaders ever kill a single person? i mean, if the new testament specifically says it's wrong to kill - even for religious reasons, then a lot of people must have been pretty dyslexic to get that the wrong way round. for the record, the bible has been sited as the reason or inspiration for more deaths than any other book.

JENOVA: i am fortunate about learning things.. i mean to say that my parents failed after all their efforts to make me believe in god and it they are unfortunate to have an unbelieving daughter like me..

its not because my whole family are roman catholic (and the whole country is), it doesn't mean that i should believe the same although i find it hard to..

but stil, i'm happy that i learned about their god and his legend...

i was bestowed with the knowledge but i chose not to believe..

Today, I have deleted 17 posts from this thread, all of which were either non-contributary, or ridiculed one of the cornerstone philosophies of the Christian religion.

As a result and since people cannot follow the rules of the Forum, this thread is closed.
