after we die do our spirits have a choice to stay or are they forced to stay? It has been said that if a person dies before there time they must stay on this earth till they are called to there rightful place?

what is your opinion?

My Mom and I recently had this discussion actually. She is of the strong Christian faith.

She was unsure and stated there were a few different theories on this---
1. That the soul goes to the grave to wait until called for Resurrection.
2. That the soul goes on to heaven until judgement day.
3. That souls are all around us wandering until judgement day.

I tend to think that our souls are on a different plane of existence.

Just my and my Mom's two cents. :)

One theory i heard was the spirit after death of the body can linger around family and friends until their energy is exhausted, then they go to the light.

I think a spirit stay because of an inability to part with a loved one or a murder unsolved and stuff like that. You know unfinished business.

I think it's a choice. Mainly if you are vengeful, attached to someone or something, looking for something, yea...that kinda stuff.

I'm sure all spirits have a choice. Some choose to stay, some stay because they don't know they're dead and other times their spirit just leaves a mark behind after they cross over which can be mistaken for their actual soul. Personally, I would not want to remain here after I die unless I can freely interact with the living.

In my opinion i believe that a "spirit" can stay if the ties are strong.. but once those ties and bonds have weakend so have they and thats when they cross over.

In the native tradition we believe that the spirit waits around for about a year, visiting there families. Then after go to their happy hunting ground. We are not to speak there name for fear of them wanting to stay and not go to their final resting place.

i believe that the spirits opnly stay if there is a need for them like unfinished business, other than that they must move on

I beleive spirits stay on this plain if they have unfinished business
like my mother stays with me night and day to watch over me and help me through the troubles of my life

I think that it really depends on the life that person lived before they died. Or how they died.

I Don't believe in that if a spirit dies before its time it is denied entrance into the afterlife.

I think spirits are people who's death was so quick and so tragic, that the spirit doesn't know that they are dead and don't know enough to move on.

i believe that we lose control of our spirit when we die

I dont beleive we are trap once we die, we are actually chosing to stay, ehter is because we think we have not done waht we were wanting to do, So we choose to leave is up to us.

I dont think spirits would get the choice wether to stay or go, or else I think there be a hell of alot more paranormal activity than there is...I believe they stay, only if they have unfinished business were their soul/spirit can't rest until they have accomplished whatever it is making them restless

I read something that took a position that there was a layer around the world where spirits reside. Maybe then they can come and go as they please? I often hear psychics call it another plane where we have work to do, and therefor we can come back and forth completing our tasks-like spirit guides.

Spirits may be trapped because of tramatic death or suicide. Others if they choose shall cross to the other side.

Well since my grandfather passed away a while ago, there have been many strange and out of the ordinary things going on at his old house and my grandmother swears she can feel an extra presence in the house at night times and a cold chill move past her occasionally.....

There are a variety of different opinions on the after. Some believe that they will go to heaven or hell, be reincarnated, go to a different realm, hang out in good old purgatory, or haunt this earth. Of course there also is the theory that there is no such thing as the soul or spirit and that upon death, it is completed.

My guess is that until we die, we really wont know the answer.

Im not really sure. I belive there is a Heaven and a Hell. I have been told that Demons roam around upon this Earth as so do Angels. I have friends that are Spirits. And Im most positive they arent Demons eccept for one. And well, I suppose when a Spirit has left its mortal body if need be it will stay on the Earth untill it has either found its treasure, had its justice served, or is just searching for that bit of life that will put them to rest.

I may or may not believe in an afterlife, but to me, reincarnation is just bullshit...no offense.

I would have to believe with BlackWidow. I agree that the spirit sticks around because it doesn't realize it is dead, stays because of a loved one, or has unfinished business.

I dont think I'd choose to stay here, so I'd say it isn't by choice, but thats just my opinion.

I think it all depends on what u beleive before u die and ur feelings u harber or if u have unfinished buisness... or if u finished ur life goal.. IDK.. well.. i guess ive never really put alot of thought into it i guess...o.o;;

Hmmm... I think it's possible that you have the choice to stay. However, I think that if something happens suddenly you could be forced to stay...or shocked or something.

A tricky question and a lot of great answers. Has anyone else heard that when the physical body dies, it actually looses an amount of weight...some see this as the spirit leaving the body... I hope that doesn't sound silly, but I have in-deed heard of this. I personally believe that some souls are stuck here for reasons unknown (unfinished business, wrongful death, to tend to the loved ones that need them..etc.), the rest I believe pass to another plain.

i believe that when a person dies they hang around abit as a ghost till they are ready to move on. some stay for a longgg time while others pass quickly.

A spirit who has something undone in his/hers former life will be walking around and the earth for someone who can help them to go on. Some spirits will allways be lost and never find the light and rest in peace.

in my opinion i think that when you die you just lose all thought.. when your brain shuts down thats it. if i had to guess on the spirt thing i would say i think it dies with you.

The Roma culture believes that the congregating of relatives and friends and asking for forgiveness for any bad deeds that they may have done to the deceased will stop the deceased from returning as an evil spirit.
Roma also believe that a person can be re-incarnated as a human or animal - or indeed they could come back as a supernatural spirit (mulo) seeking revenge on those who have harmed the individual whilst they were alive.
So i have to believe that its a matter of choice ~ a choice of whether revenge is required.

I think the spirits stay on earth to watch over and loved one and to protect them and once they see the are no longer needed they finally cross over into another world

not trying to mince words but I believe that there is a difference between souls and spirits. I believe that all souls must cross over, but that spirits roam the earth, as well as beyond it.

I believe there are reasons for spirits to stay around. Either unfinished business (persay) . Or that they are just not ready to let go.

I do assume that spirits are here for a reason. Perhaps unresolved issues. I do not know why spirits are here. But they are here for a reason.

I think that when we die - we move on to the afterlife, we meet up with family and friends and other people we've loved and lost.
I think we have the choice to move on or not.
Most spirits choose to move on so that they can meet up with the ones they've lost, they accept that it is their time to go and move on.
Some spirits choose to stay.
These spirits usually want to cling on to life as we know it and do accept that their time has come. So they stay.

Well I don't believe we are forced to make any choices, that we even as spirits make them for ourselves. The Divine or the universe is about love and light, learning and understanding, so if a soul chooses to stay and not move on I can't believe that it would be forced, maybe given an opportunity later to move on if one arises.

i think that our spirits live on until the time of revelation. at that time our spirts will on to an afterlife.

I think it depends on whether or not you realise that you've died. I mean, if you don't even know that you've died, how can you go on to whatever lies beyond our poor excuse for a life? How can you leave when you carry on business as usual? So anyways,It probably depends on if you can comprehend your own death, If you are quite reay to go on by shedding the puny comprehension of a human and accept something greater, whatever that may be.

hmm... I think that people die, and they meet the other half of themselves in the spiritual realm. Spirits (and demons) can come through to the physical realm, on assignments. I think that ghosts and poltergeists are just spirits or demons with assignments. They either help people such is the case of the nurse who tucks guests in a hotel in every night (after she's been dead for seventy/one hundred someodd years) or they bother people such is the case of the creepy ones that scare the crap out of us, or actually do harm

I think we are reincarnated. I was skeptical about this at one point in time till my daughter who was just 3 at the time was watching tv with me and I was flipping through the channels and she made me stop at a chinese station and told me "That is how I used to talk in my old country when I was a boy" I got a book of houses out and asked her to show me a picture of the house she lived in in that life and she picked out a small little house on the edge of a rice paddy in china. At that age that is not a thing that they could make up so that really instilled my belief in reincarnation.

there are a lot of theories from the catholic faith. one is that every soul goes to purgatory until they receive enough prayer to go into heaven. or until judgement day.

if this is true, then i think we must wander till it is time for us to move on.

-if we have unfinished business, we stay
-if we were taken before our time, we stay
- our spirit goes to a different plane of existence

-or if we have a choice, whether or not to stay

I believe that as sprits we continue to have the choice and the free will we had in life, it is up to us whether we want to float around or turn to the light... It cannot be forced upon us, the decision must come from ourselves.

i agree with you that said its up to the spirit weither they stay or go. I guess if you die before you are supposed to and the spirit can't let go they decided to stay. if you are at peace when you die then there is no reason to stay.

I don't think we have a choice. The only world that is real to us is this one. No matter our faith, we will be tied to this reality.

it depends....if a person has been bad/evil/naughty all their life they dont have a choice...they go directly to "hell"...if a person has been good all their life the have a choice to stay here with loved ones andwhen they feel the time is right they go to "heaven"....but people in the middle they dont have a choice they have to stay here for all time...some accept this but some dont...thats why you get good ghosts & bad ghosts!!

I would like to think we get what we deserve so if you do bad things you get stuck on earth if you do good things you get to move on to anouther plane

I agree with the part of if you die before your time then you are stuck here until the powers that be call for you to come home.

Once your soul leaves your body and the body dies you move on. That is my belief. Where you go to is a question I hate to think about.

When your body dies your moves on. To where it goes I would guess all depends on what kind of life you lived. If you have un-finished business then I guess your soul would stay earth bound until said business is dealt with. If you lived a retched life then I guess your soul would be punished in some way. And that punishment would very personal. If you lived a good life then I guess it would be your choice has to where your soul goes. Well there is my two cents anyway.

Interesting question*smiles* I think sometimes the person doesn't know he or she is dead and kinda gets lost.For lack of a better term there.
And others have the state of mind or strength of will to stay behind and do whatever it is they feel is not done.

i don't really wonder what comes next. if you've been a decent soul on this plane, you move on to better things. thats the only thing that makes sense.

I think its just a random thing if there are spirits roaming. I don;t think everyone's spirit would be able to roam because then the "spirit world" would be too overcrowded, don't u think?

Maybe spirits stay on because they cannot let go of their life, they wish to stay with their family, maybe others are happy to move on to the next level whatever it maybe.
