Ok, I am not sure if this has been discussed before, but I have not seen anything about it in the forum lately.
Before you knew about vampyrism and the ways of this culture, what did you think of it?
Before I truly started to explore this culture, and before I knew people who considered themselves people of vampyric decent, I was very judgemental. I though the followers of this culture to be satanists, freaks and insane , deserving of a nice place in an insane asylum, but after researching and meeting people and learning of the whole vampyric origin, I became more accepting. I myself bean to explore the world only in the darkness and I also began biting and drinking blood.
Being raised catholic I thought of anything like this as evil and a deadly wrong to believe in. Now that I've grown up and think for myself it's good to know that just because you have a different side not in a church you can still be a good person. People here are kind and care about each other. My previous "judgement" was horribly wrong as are most. Judging things is ignorant anyhow.
People who think vampires are evil and so bad probably have never talked to anyone about it to try to find out the truth.
It is ironically weird that we judge what we do not know, but then become more accepting and een a follower as we realize that everythin has been badly minconcepted.
You learn about myths of vampirism growing up as a kid movies and cartoons and all that junk. So one always knows that they exist they just have an exagerated knowledge of them.
As stated we learn growing up from fables and movies that all this is evil. The churches tell it is part of the devils brigade, yet as we learn more now it intices us more to learn and realize, who we are.
I grew up on it. So I do not know what I would have thought of it if I had not.
My grandfather taught me about vampires at a very young age. So, even though my parents raised me catholic, I always had a different perspective than most of the people I attended school with. I always wondered why he told me about vampires when I was so young. Unfortunately, he died when I was 9. But, I believe he knew something that I never became aware of until my teens.
Before I knew anything about this I didnt think it even existed to this extent. I thought they were wannabe freaks...Some of them are, but there are alot that do actually take it seriously
I felt the same really, just drawn to it kind of like I've always been drawn to everything of a darker nature.
I have always loved the idea of vampirism and stuff in that genre since I was young. blame it on the influence of my mother:) But being brought up as a christian, I was always scared to furthur explore the subject. But since I have gotten older I realized that I shouldn't be afraid to learn aobut new things and to explore possibilities^_^
Ive always thought it was interesting to research, read about & learn more about. I was fascinated by it all, but never really thought about the real possibilities of it ever being real or possible....
Vampyres always fascinated me, even as a little girl. But to get into the culture, I learn from the people on this site.
I saw vampires as those scary people on a movie screen that were there to scare me. When Buffy the vampire slayer came out...it renewed my interest in vampires, as I enjoyed how the creater of Buffy, kept them more human than the evil bad things that go bump in the night.
When I first was interested...I enjoyed the manners of most the community, the seduction of both females and males and the sexuality. I am told I am too "light" or too pure a soul to be able to be in the darkness but here is where i choose to be
I was raised very religious so I believed that they are only some fictional and evil creatures, but than Vampirism has opened my eyes.
Being in the family I have, on my mothers side I had a few vampires and were's as well. But my stepfathers side that was the "devil" as they would say it is, and still do to this day. I did not think anything bad about it, for they did not hurt me and i know not of what was to be of me latter on in life. I try and show my bother and sister that its ok and not to fear it, my brother is like me and understands its not evil at all. But my poor sister, they are getting to her more and more, i hope she dose not turn out as my stepdad is.
before my awakening,i was only aware of the stinted view of the hollywood potrayal of what were things to come, but ive always been around it
I was always drawn to the idea, but I never bought the HollyWood version. Even as a small girl , I knew alot was make believe. Entertaining , but make believe.
I still do not know a whole lot about it but i have always found it fascinating and would love it if i had the time to learn more about it
I'm still pretty new to this, but I can say I've never thought it evil.
I have always enjoyed the lore of Vampirism. When I was a child, I had a very advanced reading, comprehension level. I read Stokers Dracula in the 3rd or 4th grade. After that, any thing having to do with Vampires was what i was looking for. This lead me to the Occult, Witch Craft , and Magickal studies. It most definitely became an addiction!
Before I knew anything about this I didnt think it even existed to this extent.
i thought of it as a way of life that people do not understand
Before I knew I was a little scared. Hollywood made vampires bad. I now know that vampires are from all walks of life and just want to live thier lives like everyone else.
I have always thought of Vampires,my whole live I would gaze out at the night and pray for one to come take me away from my life,it sounds strange but then really nothing sounds strange here,I felt if a vampire would embrace me everything would be so much simpler, who knows really.
Well before the rave I had the typical stereotype thoughts, that vampires were blood suckers, evil, creeping around at night trying to steal your soul.. that sort of thing. But I did believe that people had a need for blood, even though they didn't have fangs and could change into a b bat lol.
i have always had a facination with the whole idea since i was very young and would always try and act out lol i was always diffrent and ppl made fun of me all the time but i always new i was part of something more interestng than ppl could believe
nothing i was to young when i saw THE LOST BOYS for the first time thats when i frist heard of vampires.
I thought of it as a fantasy that I would love to be in. And I am a part of my fantasy.
I don't think I've ever really been scared of vampires or seen them as strange or frightening, on the contrary I've always been fascinated by them.
I watched vampire movies at a young age, and sure they gave me a few scares but I really enjoyed them... And not just movies, I read books that had to do with vampires or things alike as well... I even remember having dreams about vampires, though they were never evil.
Somewhere in between being a child and becoming a teenager I forgot about vampires, other things came in the way. But I remember myself beginning to get interested again around the age of 15-16... And since then my interest has just grown, and VR has really helped with that... lol
Always wanted to be that much in love I beat death, as a child I did many things vamp related, have tried to summon famous English vamps but nothing… currently working on some blood magic and quantum concepts of portals … odd to some I know
Im not a vamp, I will turn the world if I do
Hm. Interesting question. When I became a vampire initially, I didn't know that's what it was. I thought I was a variety of other things, including severely depressed. But I couldn't find a medical scapegoat that was sound enough to pin my lack of energy on. Nor did any medical classification suit the different changes going on internally, much less the other symptoms of being a vampire.
Initially I passed right over the possibility of being a vampire because I had always seen them as myth created in the mind of Hollywood. But after making the rounds and finding nothing that matched, I did a deeper search and found what I am. It was more than the myth, it was a modern reality for many people. And it is the reality under which I live.
Until i was 13 or 14 i was scared of vampyr, but when i realised that there was more to us than meets the eye and started to realise that I myself was somehow different, i opened my mind to new possibilities.
Before i knew about vampirism & such, i still found them fascinating & very interesting but didnt really understand their ways or why they did what they did...I've always been interested in them!
I was always intrigued by the subject and the culture of vampirism.......now i have looked into it more i realise that it is quite a fascinating one......=)
well it is hard to not know of it as there are always movies about it, me i just took it as i see it. didnt know there was such a hugh following but.
The only thing I actually new about the culture was from Hollywood... which is far from acruate...
I did`nt realy know what to think of it befor, but i realy do have a better understanding of it now
i have always loved vampires and everything that goes to it. I like it cause i can come here and share it with others.
I find that all vampires have a sad story to begin with... like me.
I'd have to agree with xtremehate...I didn't know much about it...I grew up religiously and have always been told it was evil but I always thought it was my family who was evil...I believe any religion is a cult...
Before I knew what it all was about, I thought nothing of it. Nor did I know anything about it. It just didn't cross my mind. However, I was very young when I became interested. I was probably about 7 years old. I'm almost 17 now. So, I thought nothing of it because I was a child that wanted nothing to do but play.
I'd have to agree with xtremehate in part. Initially, I was in love with the vampire constructed by Hollywood.
However, as I grew from childhood to adolescence, my interest in vampires and the occult expanded. This led me into a deeper search for understanding. I read basically everything I could get my hands on that even remotely related to vampires (and the occult as well).
As I've always been open-minded as well as curious, my desire to know more has only grown even more since coming to the Rave.
I have always tried to be open minded to everything, and concering vampyrism and the culture it was something I was attracted to, and yet feared at the same time....Very hard to explain here, but hey, at least I am being honest lol
I have always wanted to know more about vampirers. I always felt there was more then what people said there was and sure enough there really is.
Ghost
Vampyres have always wondered my and i always loved reading, watching movies, tv shows and now that i have found VR talking with them and about them vampyres have been and become my life, i know i sound ubsessed but they are very interesting and awesome.
Vampires were always something that I thought that belonged in the imaginations of Hollywood film makers and authors, so I must confess I was pretty astounded to find their was a whole culture built around vampiric lifestyles.
i thought that vampirism was all bedtime stories and told to stop kids playing out after dark
Until you discovered Vampire Rave, Peridot that is smiles...
Living in New Orleans- I was exposed to it far before I became a member of Vampire Rave. I also grew up in a new age, pagan, energy transfer world with my Mother who is WAY into this stuff. I am not a proclaimed vampire. I came here due to my love of fiction, myth, and parallels to those who do claim to be psychic vampires. I am a Reiki Master, a liberal Christian, and an open-minded person.
My Mum's side of the family(Scotland) we always a spiritual group. Not so much Christian but more herbal healings and energy Reiki type of things. So I kinda grew up in that kind of atmosphere. So I always wondered what else was out there so to speak. I always had an interest in magicks and the like.
I was drawn to it at such young age that i can not remember not being with out it.
I guess I never thought of it as anything but a hollywood story until I learned more about vampirism.
I thought it was just fiction and sometimes by some people, a belief, way of life. I am a seer though, so it was easy to come to terms with it.
I have always belived in vampires so i knew when i came here what i was hopin to find and that is truth
When I was younger I just thought it was a trend. I was a very prepy person and a bright personality. I thought it was weird, till I became depressed and looked at it more often and found I enjoy it. I still have my same prepy and bright personality on the outside, but when I'm alone, everyone knows the truth about it now.
I was always intrigued by it. It all seemed terribly romantic when I was younger. My views have changed as I have taken a bigger part in the vampiric lifestyle but they have changed only for the better.
Before I knew anything about it I just thought it was all fiction.
As a child I was always fascinated with vampires and werewolves, I was drawn to the thought of them for some reason. The movies always fascinated me as a child.
I had no idea a community like this one existed until about 4 years ago.
I was raised since kindergarden in a small town with nouns since I was 4 and in a monestary, the vampires to me were the best thing that could happen to me, I use to perspusly sleep with my neck all in the open (yes I know this stereotyping) on the left side, and even imagining I was being bitten and transformed....and it was so...not the way a good girl is suppose to be thinking ...good girls do not want that...
NOT ALL HERE r satanists honey, they dont need that to hide behind
well I was kinda raised as I vampire so alot of things I already knew so I have not changed my out look very much :)
i was raised to believe in nothing but the bible by a very evil man (my dad father James ) so when my mom and him moved to Oregon my adopted brother moved in and told me how he was a psy vampire and then a room mate of ours told me of other things they opened many doors before my mom left my dad and i am happy and quite opened to the world and the many things around me even now i am learning more about it as i grow
I was never shown the dark side of life, until I started exploring it as a teenager. Back then I got into satanic nonsense and quickly found it to be absurd, banal and highly illogical. Which then left me with atheism (a belief that made more sense to me than anything religion I studied).
Until I was a teenager, my idea of a vampire or werewolf was pretty much derived by the comic books and what little TV my parents allowed me to watch.
My parents taught me to accept those who are different than me, and in such, I learned to not fear, but learn about all aspects of life, be it dark or light. I learned tolerance and acceptance and understanding. That's something I cherish to this day.
i dont know, i never had an issue accepting anything new. And i never once saw witches, vampires, ghosts, werewolves and what have you's as evil or bad or anything. Maybe thats my mum's fault hehe
Ppl who were diff or dressed differently...i always wanted to be them lol
I thought that it was cool! I have always been draw to it.
Honestly, I have been around the Vamp life for a long time. I am not a Vamp nor do I practice that lifestyle...but I used to. When I was young I dabbled in all sorts of occults to find my calling. I still have not found one universal calling, but that is the joy of VR.. to help people understand what they are and what they want. Good topic choice..
At first some thought that I was a freak because of my need for blood. Once I knew more about it myself (due to the age I was at the time) I I was indifferent about it because I knew them that I am what I am.
Like most everyone else, I was brought up to believe that said 'creatures of the night' were evil. Yet, they always intrigued me.
I'm just leanring about it right now. I've known about vampires from way back. Who dosn't?
But vamPYREs... Shoot, that's something else. I don't have all the details on it so I can't really pass judgment on it untill I do.
A minute or two on Wikipedia would clear this up but if any of you can fill me in on the details give me a shout.
I thought vampires were still in books and movies and the truth is that they still are but people in real life want to be as much of a vampire as it is humally possiable I think that is the truth on what the difference between before and now to me.
Even as a child I was drawn it or thing oof this nature.
I grew up in a catholic home, so anything like vampires, witches, etc etc was considered evil & wrong...but i knew i wasnt a "normal" person from a very young age...i didnt exactly know why but i was always drawn to the dark side of things but never knew why! Then when i grew older & started getting into the darker side of myself & started getting into vampires, wicca, werewolves etc on a serious level, doing research i found out about alot of things...its all fascinated me & pushed me to learn more!
i was raised catholic. but i never felt right there. i discovered wicca and everything fell into place. i joined vr to be with like minded people like me. and i've never regretted it yet!
before i thought it was like the movies and im new to this but my understanding is more aware of the truth
I didn't know that this lifestyle existed until about 5 or 6 years ago...so I first thought that these people were wanting to be like the vampires in the movies...knowing that it wasn't possible, I thought they needed some medication or shock therapy. Then I read into it and understood it better :)
I grew up watching all the old vampire movies...falling in love with the idea of being a vampire :) Even though they were always portrayed as evil, I still wanted to be one until I grew up some and was able to tell the difference between fantasy and reality :)
I didn't include it as a philosophy, I suppose people get too hung up on the "v" word. When it comes to the Hollywood ormyhtical vampire, my opinion hasn't changed- its still a story.
hollywood :) a young mind will always fall for that... when you`re little, and see batman on tv, the only thing you dream about is climbing some buildings using that magic web thrown from the back of your hands... same thing happens with vampires. when i was little i would`ve loved to meet a real one that would teach me how to became immortal... then i`ve heard stories told by some elder people form Transilvania (a place not that far from where i live) and started to believe some of this has to be true...
everyone believes that a vampire is someone who will come findyou in your bed at night and drink your blood, then you will come back and be one of them.
I was technically raised catholic, but i never followed it. Something always intrigued me in the dark culture.
I cannot call myself a vampyre for I know so little, but it is something I will continuously learn about.
I was never scared of it, and I didn't think it was for the 'freaks' since i was always considered one.
I was never afraid of the idea of vampires. I thought of it as darkly romantic. Movies and books in the later 20th century portrayed them much more violent in nature than back say in the 50s. As for personally I knew something when I was young but did not call it by that name...still don't like the name because of the connotations it brings to mind by those who are not vampyrics. I called it "behing the eyes" when I was little.
Before I knew about all this, I thought all vampires to be the Hollywood type. Burned by the sun, repulsed by garlic, etc.
i guess beforei actually learned about vampires i guess i just thought they were movie material
I've always believed in this and finding this is home now.
i most people did believe at some point some type of movie sterotype of vampires i.e. garlic hating, scared of crosses, burning in the sun. But once you look past hollywood vampires the real thing is much more beautiful.
I've believed in this type of thing ever since I can remember but I can honestly say I was afraid. I didn't judge, but I was scared. The first time I dated a vampire I was terrified, and now I'm thrilled. Something must of just happened to me to switch my thinking.
I have been interested in vampires since pre-teen years. Read books on Edgar Cayce in my early teens. Read a history of Vlad tepes many, many years ago. I consider it a subject of interest and nothing more
I don't necessarily buy into the blood feeding for life sustenance
i was raised by parents who were religious but allowed me to be open
so while i knew they didn't approve of the culture i was fascinated and drawn to it.. they never really forbade me to do anything but guided me to make smart choices in whatever i was attracted to
so i was allowed to explore the culture more and more as i grew older
it was a good way to be exposed to it ;]
i think because of how i was raised i never really had a negative view of any culture or belief
everything was just different and i could decide for myself what i wanted :)
always heard of it as a child but didnt really explore it much til later years..i always knew i was different , when i learned about vampisim i knew what and who i was..guess i heard that things different from how i was raised was satanism, evil and vampirism wasnt real it was satan's work..i have found my real self doesnt care who thinks vampisim is in your mind because it is real and very much a part of the mortal world..
