If there was a class like that I would take it, and if my children so chose to take it I would let them. My college does offer a class on mythology, not quite the same but I think it's a start. Though I must admit I don't see a Hogwarts like school in the near future, the people are not ready for that yet.

Well i think it would be interesting to see what they would teach in a class like that and i would give it a go and why not be open minded about it. I would let my child go but not till she was a teenager, to let her make her own choice but yes i would let her go.

If any school or college in my area offerd a class on such i would be the first one signed up lol. I did take a world religons class and it covered Paganism quite indepth, but it seemed to me that they pressed the point of Christianity being the "right" way. I would definately let my child take the class, when she was ready to take it. Going off on a tangent about another thread, i will teach my child about different religons, expose her to them and let her decide, as my parents did to me. I think the teen years are a superb time to really learn and think on such things.

I most likely would as I'm very eager to gain knowledge on such subjects. Sadly, to some degree, it would be opposed due to the fact that religious teachings and other things not proven by science are not allowed in the public school systems.

I don't see why not... Afterall, they have catholic schools children attend to and they learn about the catholic ways. Why shouldn't it be the same with witchcraft and such? I find it very unlikely that a school like this would exist however. I really don't see anything wrong with it, it's YOUR belief system, practice what and how you will.

There are some colleges that offer these types of classes. My college in Ohio offered one in Angels and some other 'out there' topics. On the sign-up sheet and when paying the college had it posted that the classes didn't reflect the beliefs of the college.

And I would defiantly go to the classes, if I had the time and money. I was going to attend the angel one but I couldn't because I moved to Tennessee.

As for whether I would let my child attend one, probably not until their teen years. I remember how confused I was and am because of others trying to suggest and force their own beliefs on me. I don't care to do that to my child.

... what do you mean "if"

[please excuse the shameless plugs I am about to offer ... I have no affiliations to either of these groups; they are just groups I know of]

The first group is www.witchschool.com; which is just as it sounds. It is a school created by a pagan to offer classes on witchcraft to the pagan community. Although they are located in mid-southern Illinois; they also offer on-line classes.

And for the children of the family ... if you are of a pagan belief and have issues with the Christian based groups (Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America); there is now www.spiralscouts.org. This is a group created outside of the US, but has recently taken root in the Pacific NorthWest; and teaches our young witches and wizards all of nature.

As for my attendance ... I prefer the adult lessons of a coven, but for those without a coven or without the direction - WitchSchool would be a good stepping stone.

I do not have children (yet); but having been kicked out of the BSA in my youth ... I would certainly entertain the idea of sending my offspring to such a well balanced, open minded group, as the SpiralScouts.

I was going to mention the WitchSchool site. I enrolled there about 4 or 5 years ago, it helped me a lot in the early days. It would have been cool to have gone somewhere to learn stuff that wasn't online too though. I would let my kids make their own minds up, I certainly wouldn't have any objections to them going somewhere like that though. Rather that than some christian religion to which I couldn't relate to them with.

(and before the hate mail starts, I'm not knocking christian religions. Just that I don't follow them so I couldn't offer any advice about them. )

In theory it sounds like a good idea, but I'd want details on how it was taught. The class would have to fit into a degree program, and all sorts of logistical elements would play a part in shaping the class. The effects of those influencing factors let alone the intructor itself would be things I'd want satisfied before attending.

The idea is a very appealing one, but for the time being I'm afraid it's going to be up to the individual scholar and enthusiast to learn for themselves these things.

Just imagine, that would be a very special school, the one wich teaches power, and since it is offering such a vastly powerfull subject at your mastery, it would be logicaly, more controled.

I wouldnt alowe any "schools" to teach my kids, and how to pull that one out.

Soon my kids would become mindles zombies, brainwashed, controled, and of course, used by the politicians to wreck some village in Peru, with their super telekinetic ability., all over and over again.

My kids would learn that one at home, not getting infected with the controlfull bullshit, wich is offerd in government schools.

On the other hand, I dont plan kids.

Personally, I am enrolled in the 1st Degree Wiccan Priest course through the College of Sacred Mists found at Workingwitches.com and the Druidic Bard course through the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids found at druidry.org.

I enjoy both, but I would be apprehensive about letting a child enroll. I don't think children should be working with spells and magick. Many adults shouldn't. The craft requires a good foundstion of wisdom, maturity, and patience.

I wouldn't object to children learning herbology, the Celtic calendar, mythology, ethics, etc.

I know of a few colleges what have classes in alternative religions and occult practices as a sort of sociology course. My high school would never be so bold as to offer something like that cause there would be too much oppoition. But I will definitely take those classes if the college I go to offers them. And if someone is in college then their parents don't really ahve any say over what they take, now do they?

I would LOVE to attend such a place- if I was sure that they would provide credible information- AND if there would be a way to honestly make a living from what I learned there.

I have seen ads for online Wicca courses, but don't know if they are legit...as for my kids if I had any, they would be able to go once I felt they were old enough to decide fairly for themselves.

I would have to attend out of sheer interest, and any children I had could attend if they wished to do so.

To not know is to be ignorant. To be ignorant is you be unprepared. To be unprepared is to tempt death.

I would attend through interest and the lust for broadening my knowledge.

I would only allow my children to go when they were old enough, it is not the best time, to allow them to attend as such until they are stable, otherwise, things may turn for the worst and for the most part do.

I would love to go to a class like that. witch craft interest me and i would like to learm more about it there is only so much you can get from books and the internet.
The so called religious studys in school is not very broad and will never even touch the edges of wicca let alone satanism and anti-christ. Ok the last to arnt for everyone but wicca is an accepted religion we should be able to study it too.

Echoing DireConsequences's post. The University's around where I am do the same thing. Ironically it is the federated colleges attached to the University campuses, such as Catholic, or Lutherian that offer these "public interest" classes. Mostly these classes are taught by the history professeurs and there is even one at the University I am attending, who's field of research presently is into Early Modern Medical knowledge and how it relates back to the Witchhunts and cases involving demoniacs.

Very interesting classes to attend.
:)

I would most definately attend.

I have spent most of my adult life studying religious views from around the world. Everything from the regional occults tucked away in back corners to main stream religions. I have sat with voodoo priest and even had lunch with a bishop of the catholic church once. All in a persuit to "understand" what is really going on.

As for my kid. Easy answer. She should go, but only after I had previewed or taken the course first. There are some things she doesn't need to see "quite yet" and I am rather protective of that. But if it was an information based class...then I would strongly encourage it.

Well, I wouldn't have a problem with schools offering such education. Ignorance is not bliss, in my opinion. It never hurts to be educated on the world around you. Duke University was once a dream of mine due to its studies of the paranormal. Alas, I'm too old now. :(

There are places where you can study the occult and other theological subjects if you look hard enough.

While I have no active interest to pursue a school or college that has an emphasis on the occult, wicca, pagan, and other nonchristian beliefs, I would have no problem if others did. If I ever have a child, I hope to raise s/he in a religiously conscious environment with no emphasis on a particular faith. The only way our young can truly decide what religious/spiritual path to go down, they must be aware of the choices and tolerant of others.

I took a class in college that was the study of cults and deviant groups. The class studied Palo Mayomba, Santeria, Wicca, Santanism, and a whole bunch of other things. It was an incredible class. Part of the Criminal Justice track. I actually took a few classes that dealt with these types of things. Definitely worth it. I learned a lot. We even had guest speakers from each area.
