I would like everyone's input on this.
What is the FIRST thing that comes to your mind when death approaches you? Has anyone had any near death experiences? If so, what was your first emotion..your very first thought.

I was hit by a car a few months back and left in the road... I was told that I laid there for about 3 hours before someone finally picked me up and found my id. All I remember thinking when I saw the car coming at me was, "Aw shit.... "
Really, that's all I thought.. then, nothing..... I woke up out of a coma a couple of weeks later.
What was your emotion? Were you scared...angry...perhaps sad?
a long time ago i was foolish and tried something that now i am glad i failed at. the first thought that came to my mind was i now finally rest. i am free.

I don't know exactly... I felt kind of numb... Like I knew it was going to happen and was bracing for it.... I've had some pretty close calls before... People here aren't the best drivers.. Sometimes I wonder how any of em even got their license at all! but yea.. kind of like... i dunno.... it was weird.... I knew but I didn't know and I was shocked but not scared...
I am a big surfer. That's one of my main sports. Back in '02 I was just having fun at a very crowded beach in Mexico. So I was surfing..then I slipped a little at the end and just fell to the shore. Nothing major...just a little bruise on my bum lol.
Next thing I know, people are screaming at me from all sides. I look back and another guy is coming at me with his board.
What did I do? Nothing...completely nothing. I was as blank as a sheet of paper. I just sat there on the shore and waited like 10 seconds until he finally knocked me out with his board.
I get paralyzed in near death experiences, or if anything is about to hurt me really badly. I just go blank and get paralyzed.
Dear in headlights would be my reaction.
yes a few times. the emotion was a feeling of regret and sadness. feeling as though I wasnt ready and didnt want to leave others behind me.
know as a Shaman I know, nothing really dies, there is life else where.
I believe being scared would be your first emotion, for you would not know what else lies next. scared to leave family or friends or the life. the second would be acceptance for you couold not change what is set.
Fear was my first emotion..my first reaction to my last nde..and I hope never to experience that kind of thing again any time soon.
hmm First thing I think of is who am I going to haunt.
Or which dead relative will smack me upside my head first for the things I have done.
dont prolong it...make it quick and easy..Just get it over with
Knowing me I'll go
"Aww damn what did I do now?"
or something like that.
I've dreamt about dying many times - my last thought is usually this is the end of this ride, where's the next one going to be
I had dreams where I died before, but those were all Lucid dreams. In those cases I just forced myself to wake up.
we all will die so i am not afraid cause it will happen so why worry about it
death is only another stage in life. yes i know i will die. and i know i am not afraid of it. but it still all remains. that i do not seek death. nor does death seek me. but when the time comes my only regret i will have is that i can not give my life again. that fact is death is the easy part. the thing of death that is the hardest to deal with is the ones u have left beyond in this world. they are the ones that suffer the most.
For me, in my MVA, time slowed down. I had time to think, "I am going to get squished" and "My family will miss me" "I wish my Mom didnt have to see this"(it happened in front of her home.
I did not have any physical movement but the thoughts were there.
Luckily, and thanks to my guardians, I was not as hurt as I thought I was going to be.
Does anyone think about where they might end up after they die?
Heaven? Hell? Afterlife?
Real life? I thought about nothing image-wise. Not a single thing went throught my head but one word "great"...
personaly i dont even think about whe it cometheres not much i can do to stop it
I had a severe stroke about 4 years ago now, and was very close to death, I am lucky to be here today. When I went out all I saw was black and when they brought me back I remember thinking " I am either going to hell or there is no such thing as heaven or hell". The fear I felt was stunning, to leave this life so early when I had so much left to do. It changed me, not a day goes by that I don't tell my loved ones that I love them and I try to make my life as full and rewarding as possible.
Yes I did when I gave birth to my daughter.. I lost too much blood but felt very peaceful upon leaving my body.. was jolted when I came back. As far as thoughts I dont believe I had any as I can recall none. However now personally when death is ready then I shall be too.
I was beat damn near to death once by an ex and left for dead my kid was smart enough to get 911... I actually felt euphorium come over me and yet I thought of nothing except my daughter and how I could not leave her.. I woke up in ICU about 2 months later. I was very thankful to be back.

I hope to reincarnated. I think being a squirrel would be fun.. Or you know what? I wanna be a fat lazy housecat..... :P that'd be sweet!!! =^_^= lol
Rapture.
Escaping this plain into your next one.
radika
Well, since you asked what my very first though is, its a realization that things seem to be moving very, very slowly. Other things come after that.
being near death! wow well...
ur hearts racing, you can't see anything around you, your in shock and are completely out of focus with everything around you time stops, u don't hear, u don't see, u barely breath, all that somewhat comes to mind is
"I'm F*cked" basically you just know it's all over!
But living through it! Comming out on top, when u know you should have died changes your whole life forever it makes you a better person inside and out. Atleast thats what I know from personal experinces!

Very true! Thank you XSilverxMoonxNightX. You said it in a lot less words than I probably could have. :P
the first thing that comes to my mind when death approaches me is not to fear it.
i have had near death experiences and the first thing to come to my mind is that i have not completed my life and what i want to do with it and how i have affected others. yes that is a lot to come to mind in that short of time but it just shows us that our minds are capable of so much when we have no time left.
I have looked death in the face many times and known your not taking me now. then after that my next thought is this is going to hurt like hell.
Fear for the unknown. Sadness for the ones I will be leaving. Overwhelming joy for the ones whom I will be reunited.
I luckily have not been that close to death.
Only three moments come to mind:
1. Step sister accidently pointing a loaded rifle at me.
I freaked out, and dropped to the ground. I kept imagining what it would be like to have a bullet go thrashing through my body.
2. Car accident when I ran a red light by accidnet.
Freaky crap. The world starts to move so slow. I remember thinking, "Crap. Red light, and I am skidding through. Oh no. I am going to hit that car. BAM.... Oh no, now I'm going to hit that car as well. Crap."
3. Robbery at gunpoint.
When that handgun was pointed at me, and I was told to lay on the ground, I remember thinking, "I hope he waits until I am on the ground before shooting me. Wow, this tile floor is cold. I wonder how load the gun will be when it goes off..."
I sometimes have that when I wake up and stand up too fast. I get that noise and lose balance a little. Did you faint after you got hit, or just walked away?
The most intense experience I ever had was when I was nearly hit by a bus. I was crossing the road and knew I had plenty of time before the bus came down. Unfortunately, a car that was speeding came out of nowhere leaving me with the choice of being either hit by that car, or jumping back into the path of the bus.
It seemed inevitable that I would be hit and I knew I was going to be badly hurt or more likely die. At that point I felt absolutely at peace.
The really strange thing though was that at that moment, the world seemed to slow down to a crawl, and I managed to do some kind of movement that let me jump into the path of the bus and then immediately behind the car as it passed.
To this day I have no idea how it happened, but everything was so slow and clear that it felt like I had all the time in the world.
mugged with a group of girlfriends. Guy runs up next to me and reaches inside his leather jacket, says he's got a gun. I move my purse from shoulder nearest him, to the other side, and say something like, "yo momma has a gun up her ass."
I think, what?!!!? yo momma?!!? And up her ass? How inappropriate is that?
and the guy stops, and says, "Whut?"
And then he takes all our stuff, and I start to shake.
well I died on the table when I had my daughter and all I thought was OMG! and the light came and then it was black till I woke up 2-3 days later in ICU. I think we do not really have alot of last thoughts unless you are dying a slow death otherwise it is swift and just takes you over.
Irony,
That is adrenaline! It allows you to do some crazy stuff when it hits you hard.
Super strength and time diolation.
Death is not new to me... yet, the doctors brought me back to this state of existance. If not here, I will exist at another level... again... I do not worry, for there is nothing to fear...
Each time, I have felt no different. Maybe more logical, like my mind worked alot easier and quicker, reactions faster, and dexterity better. It is like the bodies attributes are increased in a desperate act of self-preservation.
Well my emotion was that one of freedom, I felt like I am going to fly away in to the endless.
complete utter hoplessness but the joy of finaly being free
i was swimming in the atlantic got caught by a rip tide no one close by no life guard i could not get out of it i started to tire out the tide was pushing me into the pileons by an old pier earlier i saw a surfer smash his board into he friends had a hard time getting him out of there i was being pulled into it i was tired had swallowed alot of sea water ahd was giving up
my first thought was i am going to die please God dont let it hurt and please take care of my family
then a calm total calm came over me and a voice in my head told me to relax just relax i did i went under the water i did not even attempt to hold my breath i dont really know what happened next because i awoke on the beac h threw up and got my shit and went home and loved on my family because i had a really close call
my first thought is i would be able to talk to my brother
Not really a thought but more like a feeling hits me. One time I was hit by a car and right before I was hit I felt numb and like a surge go up my body but I don't remember thinking of anything except that this is it, the end. And of course... it wasnt.
I've only seen people die, and depending on the circumstances, determines how they respond.
It seems that the two most common first reactions are paralyzation or super human senses.
Has anyone ever felt out of body? Like they saw themselves from above or the side?
i was in a car wreck and when i finally came 2 i was worried upset scared and very mad...
I almost drown when I was like 3 years old...I still remember this vividly...I had fallen into a small creek...I hadn't learned to swim yet...I remember struggling to the surface and grabbing some roots IN the bank...I couldn't pull myself out and I could barely hang on...the current was trying to drag me down stream...I held on for what seemed like an eternity...I passed out from the pain of holding onto the roots for so long BUT I didn't let go...I think my will to survive was so strong even then that I wasn't going to give up easily...I remember being scared witless...I didn't yell. scream, nothing...I couldn't...for some reason I lost my voice...I don't know why that happened...I think my energy was so concentrated on staying alive that I didn't even think about it...
I had a close call and came close to death. It was weird. my heart stopped, but i was still alive, I couldn't hear anything, feel anything, or move, but i wasn't scared. it was very peaceful, and I felt warm. The experience has stuck with me
(if you must know, it was a bad car accident that almost killed me)
Hmmmm....actually when certain stuff occured to which I was put in situations that were very ....ummm grim as far as what the outcome could be... I just reacted at the time never thinking well about anything just doing what I needed to do......I never thought about it until later on and would be like wow....that could have turned out worse than it did...I will always have that feeling of both being happy that I was alive and the guilt that it wasn't me...I guess I don't know how to explain that...but eh...
i think ....
it would be a sense of
THANK FUCKING GOD its all over now ...
I don't recall anything that ever felt truly like a near death experience. Not in the sense of leaving my body or flashes of some other world. That's also because the closest I've come to such things would likely be a drug overdose and that makes a person quite a bit less aware of your spiritual surroundings and far more aware of what it's like to have a tube shoved down your throat in ER lol.
its never happened to me but honestly i would prob think about my kids and my fiance and wonder who will take of them now
i've almost died so many times i've lost count, but i would have to say that the worst one of them all was the one where i was hit by a large wave and pulled under. the water was choking the hell out of me and i couldn't breathe, i remember walking on the bottom just saying i'm not gonna die here and then i made it to were i could get a breath and i almost pasted out from lack of air. just kinda layed there for awhile, everyone said i looked really blue.
I know it sounds really weird, but I 've had many near death experiences, but I've never bit the big one, but when it happens, I'm never really scared, just a bit relieved, and I feel comforted, as if I'm going somewhere I should be. Or somewhere I belong. I glad not to have gone but, I feel it'll be ok when I finally do.
I almost had a plane fall out of the sky on my car one time, and the first thing that went through my head was, "Please don't let it hurt" The plane missed the car by about 20 feet, thank God, but both people in the plane were killed instantly
Wow, so many car experiences. Don't drink and drive! lol
Has anyone of you tried to avoid a disaster in a car and ended up turning into another disaster?
Well, my heart has stopped once. I got revived though. Got hit by a car while crossing a street, died, then I was revived at the hospital. It was a weird experience.
Vampirika, I did have an experience like that; my mother was driving, and swerved to avoid a person crossing against the light, and then someone ELSE hit the person with their car instead, and took my mother's car out as well. We were both ok, but the person had permanent brain damage thanks to the ass that hit him.
Back a couple yrs ago went in to have knee surgery and was going to have a nerve block in my back to numb my legs so i could stay awake for the surgery, but the doctor put it in my back wrong so instead of the med going down it went up, and i seized everything in the upper half of my body including my lungs and heart, and as i felt my self dying before the finally realized what was going on all i could think about was i'll never see my son again, i still have nightmares to this day about it, it was horrible.
Wow Lesava, that's horrible. Did you think you could have been that person crossing the street? Were you scared...sorry...mad perhaps?
I stood there looking at the spot where the man had fallen, and I remember thinking that what if my mother had hit him instead, would he have not been injured as severely? I was shaking for a couple of moments, I couldn't believe what had happened.
i'm pretty sure mine would be "oh fuck"...my dad died twice on the opperating table and he said he still heard them talking and working on him.
About 7 months ago my heart crashed after a nervous breakdown my blood pressure killed me as I felt the fluter in my chest I slipped outside my self (as I have done before )then watched as they tried to revive me.i felt a static around me ,not as you think feel but more aware that it was there with a suspended feeling or vidration ...there was a vaporish swirl curtain...and I knew not to pass through it (it had never been there any other time i had OBE "wading into"it i saw a great expanse a sort of waste land and there appeared to be forms rolling slowly across it .Then there was radiant light that streamed over head all the way across the expanse...the "stream on the other side did not appear to be the horizon as there was no horizon That is when a "draft'nudged me and i returned thankfully after the atropine didn't work the Paramedic kept the Oxygen bag going or i would have had brain damage had he not.I realized that very moment that everything that weighs me down will keep me from crossing that expanse as light.the static i "felt"could have something to do with the things I let cloud my mind .So my fisrt instinct was to relax and not let myself be pushed out.I will hold life loosly now so if it is required of me it will not be torn from me but gently fall away and I will die with a smile on my face.
Earlier when i was in the army at a reception barracks I went to dust the inside of a closet that had a light on the inside over the door...an old florecent fixture .i had a 2 ft. stool that I was standing on.the damp cloth i had to dust the cobwebs out contacted the fixture and PPppPwowww,,ZZZrapppPevery thing went kalidascopeic tunnle visionish
and i felt my wrist contact the frame then the fall STRAIGHT BACK STIFF wwwooosh i hit the floor it felt like i went through the floor cusioned only by air and relaxed shock.Had I not been in athletic shape it would have been worse.I smelt ozone for 2 days. The lsson I learned then...don't overreact, and lie still until you can recover your senses.
I have a very strong self-preservation instinct, but in circumstances out of my own control when I think I might die, like ExplodingPenguinsOfDeath, I just thought, "Shit. Well ok".
It's a very strange state of mind to be in, and in a way you just accept it. Normally, I am terrified of the very thought and I refuse to ever die, long live me, hurrah!
I almost got killed by a truck it mist my head my an inch and as it was coming towards me all i could think about was not getting to see my boy grow up
Well being I was in a major car accident a few years back, I died and they had to revive me, I don't remember much of the accident but just before impact i remember seeing my grandfathers face and him saying it wasnt my time, and yes your life does flash before your eyes just like in a movie
I had a few close calls as a kid all I though of was wow this was fun (doing wat most kids do tempt fate). The only thing I always ended up getting/doing was broken bones.
I have been run off the road riding my motorbike, a few times I thought I was gone. All I did was curse the idiot who did it and brace myself for the hurt that was coming.
I was hit by a car this past wednesday... it was only my arm that took the damage but when I realized I was hit... my first thoughts were my lover and how he would fair without me...
i think the first thought that goes through my head will be yes i can finally find out what happens when you die then it will be oh no i am not going to be around to tell anyone
I was in a car accident when I was 16.
My first thought was about the pain and fear because I didn't know where or how badly I was hurt....and then fear for my friends...I could only see 1 the driver and I couldn't tell if they were okay or not. After that I started to panic wondering if I would be okay and then I thought of my family.
I know had I not been hurt the first thing I would have thought about would have been my family but the fact that I didn't know and couldn't see myself and how badly I was hurt or even where I was hurt was the scariest thing I have ever encountered in my life.
Wow CherryAdvocaat, you actually wanna live!? How very ungothic of you...tsk tsk tsk.
On a more serious note, has anyone ever felt as if they thought they were more hurt then they knew, and it scared them even more?
I was found in my car frozen to death two years ago this month.
It was an experience to say the least but no light or anything like that.Nothing bad nothing good.it was weird tho.Too hard to explain here.
I think I would have memories of my life,if there's enough time,if not I would just think: ''oops!''
I think everyone's first instinct is fear and a regret that it is over already.
i think that if you know you are going to die and are expecting it your fear of whats to come is gone ,but as for what your first thought would be i my own personal experence my family and did i do enough to show ppl i cared..
My very first thought on "death" would be......
"Finally, peace and rest at last"
Im not scared of death. I have never had a near-death experience that I can remember. Given that doesnt mean I havent had one- just too young to remember. lol. But I would be more scared of not living my life to the fullest not dying. But if its my time to go then I will. Fate controls that. Not me.
I went quickly from anger (I don't want this) to acceptance( I don't need to fight it)
my first instinct would be that i would want to live and id fight to come back if i had an accident of sort..
i did have a small stroke which did affect my heart aliitle do to stress of dieing also caused me to stress even more because i was scared to die..
On a more serious note, has anyone ever felt as if they thought they were more hurt then they knew, and it scared them even more?
Seeing as I didn't know how badly I was hurt...all I could do was think about was that....where? How bad is it? Am I going to die?
I had no idea what to do...all I could do was panic and think of how many bad ways I could have been hurt.
After the fact I was overly thinking things. But I was still scared out of my mind. So many possibilities and when you are in a situation like that it makes you mad...
Its like being blindfolded in a dark room and being told that there is only one pathway that isn't dangerous that leads out the door.
(IMO) I think society has put a very bad stigma on death, like it is something that needs to be stopped. And why? It is a natural part of life. I think for some people, it's a release from pain and sickness to a new a beautiful world (hopefully) where they are whole again. Of course, if faced with Death myself I would probably fall into the "fight" category, and try to save myself if I could.
I'm an EMT, so I get to see my fair share of death. Personally I've never had a near death expierence but I have seen strange things on accident scenes, that I cant explain, except only to say that its Death playing its part.
Hmm,I completely dissagree that everyone 's first instinct is fear.I was not afraid in any way.Fact is,I didnt even care.
The first thing I think of would be who would tell my mother. How would my family take it? How would my friends take it? Where I would go if Heaven and Hell did exist.
Fear of dying, I'm not afraid to die. I'm afraid of the pain that will be caused when I die.
in the back of my mind i was raised to believe in god and believe i was saved that id go to heven but sence i read into different cultures i sorta had forgot about my faith..
If there is a real heven id like to go there when i die
as a slow death takes you, it starts out with outright denial. your mind yells at you telling you reasons why this cant be happening.
after a while, or a moment, your will is diminished until it comes to the point that you dont mind dying. in fact, it sounds nice.
then it takes you
then nothing matters
were do you go after that ? even if some one would say your dead why should it matter but id just like to know..
When I was but a child of 10, I fell off a slide to which was over 12 feet in height. I landed on the back of my head, and was a wonder that my neck did not even so much as hurt.
What I noticed about this was that right before I had landed, my eyes narrowed and I felt something come over me. A feeling that made me feel as if everything was in control.
Now that I have matured into the person I am today, I have had many experiences that challenged either my life, or the life of someone else. And in every situation I felt no fear. So if I were to stumble upon the manifestation of death, I would certainly be focused on what tricks of it's trade I could learn if I were to survive such an encounter.
Overall, my first emotions would be surprise and curiosity.
I have had a near death experience, I don't want to go into it, but my feelings...
Relief, partly...Fear, of course played a part, maybe anticipation, rather...I don't know a whole jumble of emotions.
The idea of death is darkly romantic in a way. It's mysterious, but it's scary.
i was in a car crash and though i was going to die
i firsting i though was for me friend's, who was driving, safety
