Do you believe in hollywood vampires? Why or why not? What exactly do you believe they are like if you believe in them? If you don't what do you think vampires are like?

I would say it is "hollywood" type vampires because I don't believe in those. I don't believe anyone or anything is immortal.

By very definition, anything "Hollywood" is fake... let's face it. Thus, so also are Hollywood vampires.

As for those historically vilified as "vampires," they were and today still are very real. Ironically... and thankfully... the very demonizations against them created to destroy them have... as always over time... worked to their advantage. Given that historical vampirism's true characteristics are completely unknown to all except those who study the original accounts, they are now far better hidden and protected from modern eyes. Delicious irony, that! ;)

No, I do not believe in Hollywood vampires.. Real vampires well they could be the guy or girl next door.. What's important is not what I believe, but what the vampire believes that counts.

I do not believe in Hollywood vampyres at all. Mainly because all of the traits attributed to the Hollywood vampyres are pretty pathetic. Another thing is, depending on the movie depends on the traits attributed to the vampyre. So that means that the traits will differ constantly. Which makes it even harder to believe in the Hollywood vampyres.

Vampires as a metaphor are the movies that I enjoy if it is done cheesy I enjoy it as well but for different purposes,I like when a vampire is a supporting character rather then a lead character.

I believe Upir hit the head right on the nail, Myths and written stories are hid by hollywoods own interpataion of these myths.

I don't think Vampires exsist at all. And movies are just all fiction so there is nothing to really compare it too in my opinion

That is all very true. Hollywood is just what people think will be most interesting or over exagerating things. But real vampires can be anyone.

I like the idea of some of the Hollywood vampires with their power, looks, etc. that is what draws so many people to the lifestyle is from what they see and read.

I always think out of the box, just keeping it within the confines of this thread. This thread is close to others comparing Hollywood vampires with reality. We can say how we would like based on what we see and read, but in the reality of it, how it is.

I do not believe in the Hollywood version of a vampire as Hollywood is made to create a creature that is going to be stimulating to our senses and embellished beyond recognition. I do believe that vampires exist but in what form is hard to say. I imagine them to be more humanized with less abilities and with more of just a need for survival and not so romanticized.

The only Vampires that exist are those in hollywood. real vampires do not exist but there are people who believe they are vampires

Hollywood vampires are based on folklore and half truths... to imagine is to live within our dreams...

I don't believe in hollywood vampires, they are completly overdone by what they are trying to portray with special effects to make the quick buck. If you want to learn and educate yourselves on truth beyond the myths than you have to read non-fiction accounts from history.

Based on my experiences, I don't think there are any vampires to be had that are of any form of supernatural being.

The vamp-life-stylers are the best thing we got that puts us in the realm of a living (non-undead?) vampire presence.

Yes, I do believe they exist, just not in the Hollywood style or description. I believe them to be very private and keep close to their clans. I would think like all creatures that they have evolved over the centuries and no longer require blood to survive, but prefer it over normal food, still have a sensitivity to light but choose to move around at night, and have a end of life expectancy.

Power and fame as well as a superior view of ones self are all definite vampiric qualities.

One of my favorite pastimes is curling up with some cheap wine and watching bad vampire movies. However, I don't think a true vampire would share many traits with its Hollywood incarnation. Just like real criminals aren't living a real life music video.

I don't believe vampires, as defined by Hollywood, exist.

Vampires have existed in lore and culture, across nations and through time, so it makes one wonder if there might be truth behind the stories about them. Then again, as many have already said, Hollywood, writers and people have muddled the original concept and fashioned the vampires into various forms. I personally don’t believe in Hollywood vampires.

Behind every legend there is some truth. I am unsure exactly where the truth of it starts and ends - but I would love to find out.

I like to believe in that idea of a vampire wich hollywood is representing, simply beacuse it is appealing, and I believe it is possible, since it is possible to simply imagine its function, and with that logicaly it is possible for it to exist since our imagination is based only on what we can see/learn outside.

I don't believe in hollywood vampires. They are made up creatures to scare and captivate and are fun to watch is about all. For real vampires I really don't know I would think they are not much different from anyone else

Hollywood Vampires are just glamour and glitz, they took an idea and added special effects and make up to make the consumer interested.

If you read the original myths and ledgends concerning the vampire/vampyr/vamphyr/upir you will find that they are not even portrayed as having fangs. It wasn't until the later versions of these myths as veiwed by catholic ideals that the fangs first started to appear.

The Original vampyr/upir were of norweigan/egyptian/romanian descent and were indeed bloodthirsty, but certainly did not need blood to survive.

It was a taste they longed for, much in the same way as humankind longs for alcohol or tea or coffee or water.

It's all a matter of taste.

I believe in some Hollywood Vampires, but not other's... I believe they are much like a fairy tale for some people. I think that they are strifed with morality questions, (like anne rice's vampires) also, I believe that some are good being's also some are bad... They share many human qualities as well.

As for why I believe this.......many years of research have led me to believe this. I do indeed believe in the existence of vampires, but I do not believe in just the two stereotyical vampyr (sang/psy).

IRL vampires are completely different. They can be pure evil and lake lives (though not biting their victim). But their are people who thrive on the flesh... Jeffrey Dahmer...

Also, there are the PSY vampires, those whp feed of the energy of others and cause mischief in peoples lives just to "feed" off the energy from the pain and conflict the cause others.

I believe vampires exist in a more dream plane, they may or may not exist in some minds, but they do in others, kind of like aliens. Then again the hollywoods take on vampires really differs, like look at queen of the damned, then at 30 days of night.

Queen of the Damned can't technically be considered a Hollywood thing. Since, you know, it's based off the book of Anne Rice's creation.

I don't think hollywood vamps are real.... they are the interprutation of the story teller.... but most of our information and facts come from some sort of story.....

No I do not believe in Hollywood Vampires. I don't believe in them, because I just find it hard to believe in a creature who feeds off nothing but blood and has super-human strenght. When I think of vampires, I think of people who actually do consume blood, but I don't think they have any special abilities.

No, absolutely not. Half the time, Hollywood twists the myths around into something completely different. Remember all those cheesy horror movies with GARLIC overpowering vamps? The actual legend behind that is vampire hunters would use garlic to ward off the stench of death as they searched tombs and crypts. It wasn't a weapon.

If you want some actual knowledge on vamps--or as far as ordinary humans can tell--check out places like New Orleans where the tales such as the "Cartman Brothers" are fresh and documented.

I think you should be more specific about the "Hollywood vampire" character.
There are many sorts of vampire characters in hollywood and they are very different between them:the character played by W.Snipes in "Blood" serie and the one played by G.Oldman in "Bram Stoker`s Dracula" are very diferent and let`s not talk about the characters played by B. Lugosi ;)

2.Usually the documentation for a vampire Hollywood movie is lousy:
either the costumes and scenography are not from do not corespond with the period or the landscape of the plot,
either the language or names are russians even if the action takes part in Transilvania(pretty silly),
either both.
That`s why I think Hollywood don`t try to hide the truth about real vampires(LOL real vampires - that`s funny).They try to hide only their greed for making money easy and fast, with no interest for the modern myth of the vampire.

Luckily they are still a few exceptions!

It depends on what type of vamp you mean: energy, blood-drinker, occult-style humans, or one of the lesser known variety, such as the flaming head that stalks human victims.

For our garden variety vamp--blood drinker--I don't think there's much to the immortality gig and even if there was, Murphy's Law dictates we shalt live forever. I'm skeptic on the vampire legends as they're applied in today's society--such as the garlic misinterpretation--but I'd think the vamp would have the obvious taste for blood, dislike of sunlight simply as he or she wouldn't want to be conspicuous around human crowds and darkness would be more attuned towards its better senses, and it may or may not have an affiliation with bats or rats, since they also lurk in human nightmares.

No, I don't think they are. Something as thus being so far out of the 'natural' is just completely unable to exist. There is no proof, as well, of their existance. No DNA or physical proof. Nothing.

"Hollywood vampires" to me means fake/ movies with actors playing a role as a vampire so obviously that would make them not real.

No, they were created for our imagination and for entertainment purposes. Yes there are many stories that were told by real people about the subject, but I believe that those stories were fabricated and misinterpreted.

i belive that vampires dont exsits in hollywood sense but they are there and are more like amelia atwater-rhodes books I.E. sun wont kill them it is annoying and garlic just stinks... stuff like that

Almost everything that has to do with Hollywood is fake, so yeah, I think Hollywood vamps are fake.

I think its just good entertainment. The ideas that hollywood uses sometimes are just too far out there to think that they are anything else but fiction in my opinion.

Hollywood vampires are all glitz and hype to sell a movie. A good show they do put on indeed. A vampire is an ordinary person who blends in just like everyone else. And as others have said before me, they misconstrue vampirism. It's all parlor tricks and magic lights.

Hollywood Vampires in and of itself is to me a contradiction. Hollywood is make believe, movies are stories made in motion with pictures. However wondrous they are to us fans of the vampire, it's make believe.

I can not say for sure if real life Vampires exist. I live in Salem mass where alot of people think they are a real Vampire. I have yet to see one. (a real Vamp)

listen, real vampires can be found here in my country and much more easier to find them is in England... go there and search for them... and forget about Hollywood, gosh... and it's more easier to find them in the villages than in the big cities... and probably you wont find any in the cities... how many testimonials of people that have seen them do you guys need?
