I believe your emotions are tied to your magic. Being depressed can force you to unfocus your thoughts and aura.

Absolutely.

I wouldn't say that rage would make a spell fail; it very much depends on the spell. However, your emotional state at the time will resonate in the energy you send out. If we're talking about a Wiccan perspective, I would take into consideration that what you send out comes back to you.

I think I know where you're going with this, but since your question was not specific, I've tried to address in the most general way possible.

Yes they can have an effect on you magick in many ways. If you are angry with someone, you may cast against them when ordinarily you would never entertain it.

If you are depressed your magicks may not work depending on what you are depressed about.

The list goes on and on.

I would say that they are because usually if your angery you will sometimes put more power behind the spell than you needed. If your depressed you might not put enought power behind it and having to redo a spell may cause you to use up energy......it is just how you look at the whole thing.

Most certainly does it have an effect on your magickal workings.

Depression can easily make thing harder to focus on. Not only that, but it could change the intent on the energy you are using to cast the spell. Giving the spell a complete different purpose.

Yea I think that emotions can effect magic because if you have negative emotions you will be distracted from your magic and then you can do something wrong very easily but if you're in a good mood, you'll be able to do it right.

Yes your emotional state can effect yuor magic. If you are overly angery, sad, happy, etc it can have an unforseen effect on the magic you are trying to use. That's also part of the reason you are supposed to clear your mind before you do any spell work to try and minimize any of the pottential side effects of your emotional state.

You emtions can actaully lead to someone or something gettin hurt if you aren't in control of the, ( unless of course that strong emotion actually complients the task your trying to accomplish)

Absolutely. Although I wouldn't think that depression itself would cause your magic not to work. Emotions lie behind your intent on the magic workings you are about to pursue.

However, as long as you feel positive about what you are about to accomplish and you feel positive about the outcomes(and as long as you are doing magic for "good"), there should be no obstacles in your magic workings.

Your emotions may not always be an influcence but when you are experiencing extreme emotions it can cause problems. You could have the greatest inent in the world but if you are extremely pissed off it's going to effect what your trying to do. Just like in any other portion of you life. Emotions can be a hinderance or they can be or great help.

What it really comes down to is your strength of will to find that calm center

I think imbalanced emotions can affect ones magic in that way in wich the magic might become imbalanced, chaotic, negative, or resulting in outcomes wich are bad for the environment, and at the end, the strongly imbalanced emotions will result in the dissability to perform anything at the first place, since calm concentrated state of the mind is necceserry in order to perform a high strong concetration/intention such as magic spells are.

Emotions play a very important role in dealing with the magiks of the Universe. Though it is all in the eye of perception as to whether or not the workings are good or evil in nature.

The stereotypes of emotional magiks, candle magiks, incense magiks, etc. Are all a conduit for the greater purpose, the grande sceme of the ethereal corridors by which the energies must travel.

The intentions of the user brings out these emotions as a portal of how much, how badly, how provoked they are into sending the waves of magik toward their intent.

The magiks will coordinate themselves according to the energies provided. Thus emotion plays one, if no the most important part of the creation.

Magick is based on your intent. Incantations are not used to cast the spell but to focus intent. That is why magick works best in dark conditions, in silence, and when fully focussed.

If you let your emotions control you while cast a spell, your intent with the spell will become distorted. If you lose focus, and allow other thoughts other than the spell to enter your mind, these will intertwine with the spell, and cause irregularities.

(Edit...)

I would like to add on a side note, that in my opinion...

It does not matter about being angery or depressed. The magiks still work as well as with happy or extatic.

The universe would take a depressed individual under its wing more than a happy individual...Reason being, a depressed individual seems as though they needed the magiks to work more then the happy individual, otherwise they would not be depressed.

So you see, the Universe has its own intelligence in my point of view.

Emotions can certainly affect your magic, whether by making it imbalanced (as an unfocused extreme emotion would do) or by amplifying or weakening the effects(as a focused emotion would).

For example, extreme rage, unfocused, could create chaotic effects, as could extreme depression.

On the other hand, focused emotions such as cold rage or grief or extreme love will tend to pull the magical effects in the direction of that emotion. That's why we always try to work from a position of love or neutrality rather than another darker emotion.

As ~Serebro's~ post gives light into what I stated earlier, I am still on opinion that society has been conditioned to believe emotions regardless of how bad they are, are unfocused powers, hence the conditioning claims that no emotions of illness will work.

I believe they will, according to Universal law itself. But, this is still just my opion amongst many many other opinions of whom claim the contrary.

i think they do. but then again depending on my mood i can cast different spells. but to tap into the purest form of energy it is sometimes required to be completely emotionless and just let the world and it's problems disappear, or to be in such a state of good emotions, like love, joy, and peace (at least for me, i find my abilities strong when in states that i am so happy nothing else matters to me... or when the desire to protect loved ones and friends is there)

Most definately. To work a spell or ritual one must be centered within themselves. If one is feeling an extreme emotion such as depression or rage then of course the risk of the spell not working is there. Perhaps it could still work but not as strongly as say when one is centered.

I don't practice magic so I can't really base anything off of experience but I do feel that if you are sad it will be shown in your magic...like it is shown in something as simple as school work, or something of the like. Emotions can make things difficult and cloud judgement and actions there of.

From what I've heard, emotions can effect magick a great deal. With a person's Will being a major aspect of it all, depending on the emotions at play. If a person is in a mood with lack of egarness or will, then it would have a negative to no impact on the outcome of the magick at hand. If have to believe magick will work to make it do so.

Your emotions are a part of you and therefore your emotions will affect your magic every time you cast a spell, Love magic is best when the caster visualizes their target and in doing so that visualization stirs the positive emotions that the caster has for the intended target of the love spell, which in turn gives the spell more power to work with. The same is true with Curses.

That is why it is important to have a regular routine of grounding rituals before you enter your alter space.

I even suggest a purgation ritual before casting out
the attachment by emotions is a very quick way to tax your stream/source,leaving you vunerable reactionary
or illconceived spells.

a thread from a short time ago brought up a related topic things that could effect magic...this is a good follow through question.I have seen many people give magic a bad wrap because they slopped there emotions over every thing they did, sadly they also can effect other unsteady people studying craft with them.

Mantras and chants can aid in emotional detatchment before ritual,I find ties to things that sometimes bring me better solutions then the spell.

They can be a strength and a weakness when you do magic. As well as any energy work that you do. If you are sick and feel bad, you will most likely not have the ability to do it as well as you could otherwise.

If you feel full of energy you can do things you never knew you could do.

If you are just happy, things will be normal. When you are angry either the spell will fail, or if you do one out of anger it will be focused with that anger, either to much more of an effect and it might have other effects you did not intend.

Yes what you are feeling and emotional state effect how you do magic. Power wise as well as what you might do.

Yes emotion can effect your magic. You need to have positive state of mind in order to perform any spell or ritual if you want it to have a positive effect.

If you have watched Charmed the tv show, there are many episodes where their emotions messed with their powers and some of their potions. It even went so far to show that when Piper was pregnant and Phoebe too that the babies were tied to their mothers emotions and powers as well as the babies had their own powers, which I believe to be true. So emotions, and I believe even others (family, friends, or pregnancy)emotions can mess with your magic.

It's possible to chanel your emotions into your magic to make them stronger. Angry couuld make it stronger, but less controllable, while depression could cause it to make the reverse effect that you want.

Definitly. The emotion you get in is what you get returned. For example, if you practice magick and you are pissed at someone, you will get negative results. The same for more positive emotions.

You just need to clear your mind before practice and focus on the emotions needed to perform with better ease. You'll get your desired results better that way.

Probably. It depends though on what type of 'magic[k]' you're talking about.

Natural magic [such as childbirth] would be uneffected by emotions, but [child raising] more than likely would be.

To exhibit control over nature, life, or others, you must first have control over yourself. Naturally if you're too emotional it will effect your disposition and clarity of mind when it comes to casting magick.

A tricky question...

it depends on the focus of your emotional state and how much energy you can cull from it to perform magick.

If you are depressed, I suggest seeing someone about that and addressing that issue first. Magick performed in a depressed state of mind can backfire in my experience. It is best to channel emotions into willpower when casting a circle and, of course, focus and imagination are key to any successful magickal outcome ultimately.

It is very difficult to focus properly when depressed. so if you are feeling that way (and women are twice as likely as men to suffer from depression) please, by all means, talk to a valued friend or counselor. Volunteering your time and taking yourself out of problems also allows you to see past a depressed state of mind so try doing something for someone else or writing down what you have to be grateful for before performing ritual if you are feeling blue.

SP

Yes I think that your feelings can have an effect on magic you are trying to use. Some times it helps. And some times it can cause the spell to go wrong or just not work. The key to using magic is to be able to focus.

Magic is tied to your will power, beliefs in that the spell cast (or whtever you're doing) will work. Emotions affect those and many other factors.

Emotions do affect magic because if you don't have a clear, stable mind, then your magic won't have the intended results.

For me my emotions effect everything in my life. So do other peoples emotions however. If they are sad and I can feel it, I cry. Things like this make other aspects in my life hard to control. So I'd imagine it'd hurt this too as well.

Emotional energy can add to the power of ceremonial magic, magic spells, ect... Whether expressing hate, depression, love, envy, ect... It is the amount of energy generated, not the kind of energy... Strong emotions fuels the fire...

Emotions have an affect on everything you do, and magic is no exception. It's always best to do things with a clear, clam head. You're thought processes can be tainted by your emotions, which is why some spells shouldn't be preformed unless your in a certain mood (depending on the spell).

When you practice as I learned today after speaking with a woman who not only owns and runs her own metaphysical shop she has practiced for 10 yrs,I explained my uncertainies and she gave me a ritual to do but I had to light certain candles in order to dispel negativity and bring love and purity as I performed this, you can't go into it with a hard heart you must be cleansed or it will never work, but the most important thing is to always believe.

Absolutely, in order for you to perform magic spells you must have a clear mind. Be one with the earth, in harmony you might say. Your emotions have a huge impact on the spell you are casting. The spell is only as good as the witch who casts it.
