I was wondering if there was a special ceremony for vampires when they get married. I know that majority have regular ceremonies but are there any strictly laid out for them?

I would think that any wedding ceremony would work for vampires. It would most likely be held at night heh, and it should be taken a bit more seriously since the whole "till death to us part" would be waaaay off.

I wonder what sort of vows they would have, if they would drink from the same cup of blood, or exchange blood, even though it's not their blood in their bodies it's someone elses.

Oh I've gone crosseyed...

Due to my ever standing belief that vampires are undead animated corpses, I doubt very much that they'd get married.

Well, yeah...Usually the undead reanimated corpse thing comes after you've been married.

If you're talking about people who enjoy the taste of blood every now and then, well...yeah I figure many of them get married. With somewhat normal ceremonies.

I would think that any ceremony would work.
Possibly exchanging blood? Or the sharing of the blood of a donor? If there were to be any "special" rites in a ceremony for vampires.

Blood and Roses Vampyric Wedding Rites

This should be done during a waxing moon. The moon should be in a favorable sign for marriage. A pentagram should be drawn and laid out upon the ground. A banishing ritual should also be done. On the alter should be black (2), Blue (2), and a larger red candle (1), two daggers, and a chalice a quarter full of Blood.

High priest/ess:
The bride and groom, both wearing black and holding a black candle, with which each will light the others candle upon the alter with the others name upon it. Open the rite by ringing the bell, and drawing the pentagram upon the air with the sword of the chamber.

Recite: “ina sumsu etu ilu. In the name of the dark lords, we invite the powers of the undead to bestow their infernal power upon us, and grant this couple to ascend towards godhead.”

The participants give a sacrifice of energy and blood to the un-dead gods and the Strigoi Morte

Under the Veil of night we come together in the name of Love, Loyalty, Darkness, Truth and Passion to celebrate the affirmation of the bond between ( Bride's Name ) and ( Groom's Name ), each being the greatest gift to each other.

On this night ( insert date here ) They offer each other the most sacred and precious gift of life, their blood. Tonight, both(brides name) and (grooms name) stand before and honor the Ancients, the dark masters and mistress of our past, and their vampyric brothers and sisters to consecrate this candle of eternal unity.
Lord (grooms name) please repeat after me : This circle that we stand in and the circle of this ring represent our endless love, protection, health and devotion. With this symbol of my eternal love and devotion i thee wed- Forever in this life and the ones to come. (The groom puts ring on brides finger)
Lady (brides name) please repeat after me, (repeats above statement after which, bride puts ring on the grooms finger)
Lord (grooms name) and Lady (brides name) you may now make your bond.
(Bride and groom exchange kisses & rings)
By the power of the Ancients and in the name of these two Souls, bound forevermore, I now pronounce Lord (grooms name) and Lady (brides name) as husband and wife for all of eternity.

Blood and Roses sounds really intriguing but I am with Anann .... I went cross - eyed. I believe that if someone believes they are a vampire and wants to marry another vampire then they will assume a ceremony suitable for them.

Given that in this time and age they are most likely living vampires. I would think they would mostly use the standard human thing. Unless they want to do something different then they can.

Bur marriage is not the only way to form a bond. That just is one of many strong ones that can be done.

In my mind, this blood and roses wedding sounds as though it is a re-iteration of the Pagan broom hopping marriage ceremony. Often known as a hand fasting.

Eh, too each their own styles and traditions.

Two people, be it lovers in love or those that are just very caring about each other as some friends can be - any kind of ceremony that involves words and/or actions that are important to those people would work for them.

Well, I concur with Anam that the ceremony would have to be held at night, but I would like to further that by saying that the service should be held under a full moon, as one would really have to consider the needs of their werewolve friends in the congregation :)

Then as Anam says, we have the to death do us part issue, and well I think that would be perfectly fine if both of the couple were vampires. However, you really would need to leave that line in if one of them were still mortal!

However, some kind of biting ceremony would take place after to incorporate the mortal into the ranks of the undead.

Well as was pointed out in an earlier thread one cannot discriminate in the supernatural world, and so it should be reciprocally related to the natural world.

The full moon thing would have to be the in thing to do in that case :)

In all honesty I doubt it matters. You could probably have a courthouse union if you wanted, in the legal sense you would be married if you got the marriage license, whether you chose to do a "traditional" wedding or a "blood and roses" would really just be personal preferance.

Medieval, gothic, victorian, romantic, whichever style you choose, it is the words spoken and the ceremony that makes it a vampiric one or a werewolf one.

To me, this kind of wedding/hand fasting would be best in the outdoors, by a bonfire, ruins, something like that.

Pardon the typos above.

How would vampires get divorces? If they could get married wouldn't there be a need for divorce? Would there be a specific judge to handle these problems?

Who would be better parents too and would there be fights over property such as coffins, crypts and native soil?

Inquiring minds n' whatnot...

http://www.sacred-texts.com/goth/vrb/vrb10.htm
If you check out that website it will tell you about different rituals. But for those who do not want to go there I will post the one about marriage here to you.
Marriage: A Sharing of Life
This basic wedding ceremony can be expanded upon to add elements of Pagan handfastings, more traditional aspects such as giving away the bride, and any number of alterations. It can also be altered to include a sanguine exchange between the bride and groom if they so choose this. For a Sanguinarian wedding ceremony, when the bride and groom exchange wine with one another, each of them should also make a small cut on one finger with a new, sterilized lancet, and add a few drops of their own blood to the wine they present to their partner.
This ceremony requires wine to be exchanged, and therefore you will need a bottle of wine and a chalice. The best man will handle the wine, the maid of honor carries the chalice. There is a place left for an exchange of personally-written vows between bride and groom, and an exchange of rings can be inserted here as well.
And then it goes on to tell exactly what would be said. But I think that is too much to post here.
But I will post the most impressing part.
The union of flesh is sacred and beautiful, but the union of souls is forever. Even when death separates you, that bond will remain. Nothing is more eternal than a vampire's love.
I hope that this helps.

I would think that they would tend to stick to their family's beliefs. As well as their adopted Vampire family.

IE, Jewish Vampires would have a Jewish wedding and Christians a Christian wedding and so on and so forth.

The quest that I think is a better one is What do those who do not believe in any thing do when they wish to get married?

Personally I wouldn't see the point in being eternally married to the same person. Can you imagine the amount of times you would have the 7 year itch sheesh!

Most humancultures have a different form of wedding ceremonies that differ from the western ideal of what one should be, so I guess that if Vampires were to have the need and want to marry, then they would have some sort of ceremony adapted to their needs.

As for 'undead vampires' getting married, I don't believe in 'undead vampires' but I do believe in vampires.

Those that practice vampirism in the forms of pranic/psi and sanguinarian vampirism can participate in Blood and Roses are may choose to get married 'tradionally' or any way they see fit...

I think that only really happens when you are with someone more for lust then love. They are not the person you are really meant to be with. Not everyone is so lucky to find their soul mate even vamps. but I am sure it happens..

i think that all marrige should last for eternity, if you want to break apart the spiritual bond you are only hurting yourself.

I bet they do have regular ceremonies like humans.

I wonder who gets what and what they do for divorces..."
Yes we have been married since 200 B.C. and now we want a divorce, we still have the marriage certificate wanna see"...LMAO

I would assume that in the case of two living, sang/psi vamps, they would choose a ceremony that best fit their lifestyle. In the case of the undead, immortal vampires? Well, I guess that would depend on what kind you are referring to. If they are like the Hollywood, movie vamps (ya know, all glamour and style) then there might be a ritual involving blood and eternal vows. If you are referring to the rotting reanimated corpses of folklore and mythology...well, I don't think they would care enough about getting married for it to actually happen.

I believe it depends on how in depth you want to be on this. Everyone is different, so I really don't think any one answer is right or wrong.
But to be with someone for eternity would be very nice in my opinion.

I believe that like with normal weddings there is a ritual, so why not have one for vamps, But as for what the rituals are you might want to ask one of the elders.

It doesn't have to be anything extremely formal to make the promise to each other..
But as far as cerimonies go, I'm sure some stuff would change.

It's generally the same, though some prefer to use blood to wine, and invite only those who know of their...er..."condition"

From the research that I've done I have yet to run across a specific ritual that vamps do... but like I said I haven't found anything to support it... I'm sure there might be.... I know with wiccans there is a ceremony that can be done to bind the souls together...

If there is a special ceremony for vampires, it's is VERY modern. So... I don't know how special it can really be. No real history in it.

I agree with Laginappe - it would be a modern ceremony with no history and basically it would be whatever the two committing to each other would wish it to be.

I can't see vampires getting married. That might be too much of a formal thing for them.

I would think they handle things like that a little differently than humans do.

Formal, informal, it would be whatever is the most meaningful for the two wishing to be bonded.

So many different ways to go about it, couldn't put them all down.
