Do you believe in the Loch Ness Monster?
I DO!!! if you do not know what the Loch Ness Monster is heres some information on her......
The Loch Ness "monster" -- affectionately known as "Nessie" -- is an alleged plesiosaur-like creature living in Loch Ness, a long, deep lake near Inverness, Scotland. Many sightings of the "monster" have been recorded, going back at least as far as St. Columba, the Irish monk who converted most of Scotland to Christianity in the 6th century. Columba apparently converted Nessie, too; for it is said that until he went out on the waters and soothed the beast, she had been a murderess.
The modern legend of Nessie begins in 1934 with Dr. Robert Kenneth Wilson, a London physician, who allegedly photographed a plesiosaur-like beast with a long neck emerging out of the murky waters. That photo created quite a fuss. Before the photo, Loch Ness was the stuff of legend and myth. The locals knew the ancient history of the sea serpent. But people came to the lake more to relax than to go on expeditions looking for mythical beasts. After the photo, the scientific experts were called in. First, they examined the photo itself. Could be a plesiosaur. Yes, but it could be a tree trunk, too. Or an otter. Later, there would be explorations by a submarine with high tech sensing devices. Today, we have a full-blown tourist industry said to have generated an estimated $37 million in 1993, complete with submarine rides (about one hundred bucks an hour in 1994) and a multi-media tourist center. Unfortunately, business has slowed down in recent years. In 2007, it was estimated that Nessie tourism brought in an estimated £6 million ($12.2 million) to the Highlands. Some are blaming skepticism and the fact that there have been only two sightings in the first nine months of 2007. There were only three sightings in 2006. A decade ago, ten to twenty sightings a year was common.* The decline in sightings should concern the true believers, given the ubiquity of digital cameras, camera-phones, and the presence of webcams at various places around the lake. Adrian Shine, head of the Loch Ness Project, believes that one reason for the decline in sightings is that people are more skeptical about what they see. “I think we live in a more pragmatic age, and that people are becoming more aware of the sort of illusions that can occur on water,” he said.* If so, there may be hope for our species, after all.
So is she a plesiosaur? Or a myth? I talked to my teacher about this very subject. He believes in her and told me too look at this picture...

The water sinks in around her head. Perhaps it is how big she is. Or just the waves.
If your mind is not bobbled.... check out this website on Nessy: http://www.skepdic.com/nessie.html
I leave this on your mind....
Is this a picture of the sunlight....OR NESSY?
BillytheJust Edit: pic removed because of VR size limits. Keep it under 500x500 pxs.
Crypto Zoography , like big foot and the Lochness are a popular way to generate tourist and such to visit. If it is not real and they can spin a good yarn then power to them.If it is real then I hope they never know for sure because they will kill her for study. And she is most likely one of a kind or a very rare creature. But you would have to ask how long has Nelly been around and will she beable to perpetuate without a mateand if there are more why hav't more been seen.Same question for Big Feets
there is alot of questions and a lot of answers for myths. My point is that I believe that Nessie Is a real animal. Scientist say that there is a (say about) 300 pd limit to the lake. But I say that I believe Nessie still lives there. She might not even be a pleiasaurs (srry bout spelling) because they cannot lift their head above the water. SO? I believe she is real.
do you know the life expectance for a thing that big?Do you know when she was first spotted?Have you heard of the Cupra Cabra?Or the Skunk Ape,What about the Jersey Devil?
no no no no and a couple more nos in there but thats your opinion. my opinion is thats she is real........

I understand i just want to give you a glance at the whole field you are interested in.
Possible, but not likely to be as we think. More like a large eel type animal or such. A actual 'monster" would be to large for the lake to support.
For the longest time Sailors thought Mantatees to be Mermaid the reason the mantees sing song calls sound like singing from a distance.
The Sun Fish Is an Ugly fish they caught one here in Santa Cruz and it really got a lot of interesting professors confussed ,and confessing they where stumped.
I don't care if she's real or not. It is good to be able to have a little hope that things are not always easily explained. I like the story. I hope they never solve the mystery. Scientist do not know everything.
I cannot say that I do not believe as how can you say something does not exsist just because ppl asy so. If someone can prove beyond all doubt then I cannot argue the point. As far as I am aware they havent drained the river to put this myth to bed.
I would love to believe in her and I can't say a definitely no, but I do tend to lean that way! I hope if they/it do, no one ever finds them!
Nessie? No. things in the dark, murky depths of the oceans -- HELL YES!!
Nah no such thing just something someone made up for people to talk about lol
I believe that the Loch Ness monster may have existed, but possibly has either found another more quieter loch or has subsequently died.
Very true, I remember reading about Nessie as a kid so she would be a very old animal if she is true. Perhaps she has died and one of her young is now seen. But then again how do we know what her age is.
I want to believe simply because I want there to be mystery in the world, and to think we haven't conquered or discovered all there is to the world. It would be nice to have some surprises and secrets left for future generations to discover.
I totally agree, if there isnt any mystery left then we would become bored. We are finding new species of animals and plants everyday so why is it hard to believe that species like the Loch Ness dont exsist.
It's been investigated so much and nothing has been found....still, I want it to be real lol
I belive that Nessie(or one of her young) is real, but as mentioned above, I too believe she may have moved or is able to travel around to various Lochs etc and that is why she has not been found yet.Either way i truly hope they never find her...
I believe in these creatures. And unless theer is proof they do not exist I will always believe in them
I believe that most of the creatures like Nessy or big foot do exist. And they hide from humans out of fear. I would too.....I mean who wants to be cut up and studied?
While this might be plausible I just don't believe that such a creature still exists in the modern world. I could be wrong but I need better proof.
I also found this...
"the Loch Ness Monster. In the proverbial "deathbed confession", UK man Christian Spurling admitted in 1995 to having participated in a fake "sighting" of the Loch Ness Monster in 1934. On April 14, 1934, Spurling and his friend Robert Wilson were strolling along the shore of Scotland's Loch Ness when, lo and behold, up popped Nessie from the water (or so they said). "My God, it's the monster!" Spurling shouted, using a line right out of a B horror film. Wilson, who was conveniently carrying a camera, snapped a photo of an object in the water that appears to be the head and shoulders of a serpentine sea beast. The photo was printed in the London "Daily Mail" and appeared around the world, sparking Nessie fever. Many scientists believed the photo showed the real elusive beast that has believed to have inhabited the Loch for hundreds of years. However, in 1995, Spurling admitted that the whole thing was a stunt conceived by one Marmaduke Wetherell, a film maker who had been hired by the "Daily Mail" to search for Nessie. The "monster" was a toy submarine fitted with a phony sea-serpent head made by Spurling. Despite this single hoax, the Loch Ness Monster is still considered by many to actually exist."

I do not know if I believe or not. I mean it hasnt been proven either way . If it does exist its shy and doesnt like to be around ppl . Pictures could just be fakes of ppl wanting you to belive and make money so its kinda hard to really know the truth.
Yes and no. I don't believe it's a monster, but perhaps it is just a living fossil, like that fish that was discovered. An ancient creature that has evolved little over time.
i would love to believe in the Loch Ness Monster
but i would have to see it to believe it :)
it would be great to live around the area and be a part of the legend.. telling stories and trying to get clearer photos of that famous one
i could spend days out there with a telephoto lens ;]
i would venture to guess tourism will pick up after the recent film 'the water horse'
by the by i was just looking up some information and learned that the 'surgeon's photo' was proved to be a hoax in 1994 using a toy submarine and a molded head and neck
the uncropped version of that photo shows it much smaller than the cropped versions ould have you think ;]
I've heard and read a lot about Nessie, and I do like to believe it exists. I have yet to see it for myself though!
Threads are meant for discussions and not polls. All posts of either I believe or don't will and have been deleted.

I remember seeing a show that was investigatin the possibility. They said that there wouldn't be enough food in the loch for a plesiosaur to survive, let alone multiple ones. Just something to think about.
the picture i posted before is a picture that was tooken in an earlier time when they had just developed technology. It is a picture they took of a fin........... They believed that they had discovered proof of the Monster..."Nessie"
And they may have adapted into a smaller species of a pleisaurs.
Why do I get the feeling that we all just watched a history channel program about the loch ness monster? Oh wait right it was on about two hours ago lol
At least what I saw pretty much came to the conclusion that is was a hoax. The nessy contraption was easily duplicated. Many people can be confused between a monster or a bird swimming apparently.
The picture evilangel posted a few posts up was the bottom of the boat- not a sea creature.
If I recall right, the magazine that originally published it admittedly altered the “fin” picture. Perhaps the editors merely wanted to enhance the picture, but we cannot be certain of what the original photo looked like.
I usually believe in the paranormal, or mythical creatrues and things like that.
But I seriously doubt Nessie. I doubt it because it has been faked for sooooo many years, that it's almost ridiculous.
I will believe it when they actually find it alive... OR dead.
I beleive in nessie very much I was watching a show about it on the history channel the planted video cameras out on posts around the lake and the next day they were broken as if something bit ito them
The problem with the cameras is that the Loch is HUGE... Far more vast and deep than most lakes. There are also a lot of underwater caverns... Not to mention how murky the water is.
So even if the cameras weren't destroyed, it would be hard to pick up anything... But that is interesting they were smashed up! Hmm....
I don't know if I believe or not. Part of me would like to but part of me doesn't think the loch ness monster could exist. Like others here have said, she would be really really old. Stories of the monster have been around for a long time. The other thing is if she were real wouldnt there be even more proof by now. Another thing i agree with is that if she does exist and is found, scientists will kill her to understand exactly what she is.
I believe in the loch ness "monster" Or at least i think she was there at one point... but as far as now. i dont think she is still around its been years!!!!!!!!!!! and an animal can only live for so long.... i think that if they ever drained the lake or it dried up for what ever reason they might find bones and stuff of her
I think its possible. Untill a handfull of years ago people argued the existance of the giant squid now we know its real even better there is a larger one called the colossal sqiud and an un-named octopus about the same size. There is still so much in this world we are still learning about and discovering. How can we completely rule it out.
I dont think nessie is a dino. or anything. This may seem crazy but i think it is a large primitive turtle. Before anybody thinks in am nuts go look into the info on the very large asian softshells and saltwater softshell turtles. There are a few types of saltwater turtles that are inertial endotherms (maintain body temp by movement not ambient temp). Therefore able to stand very cold water temps, we are talking up passed alaska. There is a sticking smilarity in shape and behavior (look at the sonar of nessie from her inderside she is round) Ive seen softshells crane there neck the lenght of their body (from the side it looks exactly like nessie.) They also will keep themselves under the substrait for long periods of time without coming up for air and almost never leave the water (some of the fresh water ones never do). Who is to say there is not isolated populations out there Lock Ness is not the only lake that has these creatures.
Just my theory its far fetched but no more than her being a dino.
I dont believe, no. For all we know, that could be a snake and someones imagination could have taken it to extremes.
Not sure if I believe in this. Many years ago found a site with a webcam where you could watch and see if you could catch a glimpse. Found myself staring endless hours at simply water. Suppose its one of those things that would have to be seen in order to believe.
I think the point is, there are so many caverns and places to hide that there really could be a few of them in the loch and not be easily found. Just because no one has found one yet, does not prove they don't exist. There are stranger things discovered every day.
There is a website... acutally several thousand on this subject. I do have one that has some amazing picutres.
Yes I know that pictures can be tampered with but it never hurts to beleive in mystery!
http://www.loch-ness-monster.com/gallery_loch_ness_monster.php
i do believe, that it is a relic from the Age of the Dinosaur, and there has been enough photographic evidence to support it over the ages.
I think it's true. they find new species everyday. So no telling what is still hiding out there.
hm, never really thought about it but who knows. I wouldnt be surprised if actually was true. But pple are discovering new things in this world so why not.?
i believe that there are things that mortals think do not exsit but they do.. yes i believe in the loch and the other one that lives in lake champline in vt..that one i have seen..
I don't know if believe is the right word, but I think that there could easily be a very large animal of some kind living in the Loch Ness. Additional species are continually being discovered.
This creature could well be a survivor from previous era's. Alligators and sharks haven't changed for millions of years, perhaps another creature has survived.
At first maybe i thought there was something there a new species or what ever, yet the research seems to be skeptical about such a creature existaning in the water of loch ness, for the size of the animal would eventually kill off all the marine life, and they say there is not enough to feed such an animal, well at this point in time no i donot believe.
i dont really care either way. its cool and all but it doesnt effect me.
I think that nessie is real...
I believe he is a relation from a being of the dino age that wasn't wipe out by the giant comit from space...
it is possible his relations could have surived that...think about it not all things were wiped out back then...
i do believe anything is possible i feel that there are still other creatures that we don't know about
I can easily buy into the notion that there are species out there that we have yet to find. But these are primarily discovered in very remote areas of the world. The loch ness is hardly remote.
What has been proven is that many people have been fooled before by admitted hoaxes of a sea monster in the loch ness.
Och, hoots! now surely there is a Nessie Monster! and it is the only animal of that magnitude that has survived since the Earth began :)
honestly judging by the picture alone... I would think it's her... it would be hard to get the sun to do that and hit just right.... the only other thing is is someone made a likeness of Nessie and used that... I know that has been one of the sceptic theories... Personally I don't really think she exsists but that her spirit is in that lake. I think that it leads to why they are unable to find her in the water but there are still sightings... like Big Foot...
People see what they want to see in Loch Ness. The BBC actually did a documentry on the subject and as an experiment raised a fence post above the surface of the water in front of tourists in a boat. When asked to draw what they saw several drew the head as depicted in the photograph above.
Yes, I have always believed in the Loch Ness Monster. I wanted to see Nessie since I was a little girl. And instead I land in Inverness,FLORIDA,lol. How ironic is that? Someday....Someday........

I believe that 50 cents is very little to pay to find out.
I believe that a person is subject to suspend critical thinking for faith based claims.
As a one time pro hoax artist I am always looking for one thing... motive.I believe there is a motive here.
I have believed in the Loch Ness monster my entire life. It may be cryptozoography to some, but to me she's a lonely reptilian lovely, a mermaid precursor, a missing link to missing links we haven't even thought of. Plus, she's a vegetarian.
I find it hard to believe that people on a site dedicated to a mythological creature such as the vampire. let's face it. no true scientific proof. would find it hard to believe in other legends.
I believe they are out there. I say they because I do not believe only one could survive so long without another. I almost think of it as a water dragon and even if dragons can live forever. at some point I am sure boredom would kick in and you would need the extra company or just go to sleep for a while. The loch is filled with unexplored underwater caverns. some which do lead out of the loch into the ocean (supposedly).
i believe that at one time there may have been more then one of these creatures but now days they have either gotton smart enough to hide from humans or they are all gone
Is it possible the photograph of 'Nessie' could have been say, some sort of submarine?
I believe if Ireland had to go through the trouble and has a protective policy on the loch ness monster than I believe it could be true.... Just because you cant see something doesn't mean its noit there... The loch ness mosnter just might be a very good hider...
I'll believe in the possibility, but I can't believe in it just because it might be true.
i believe we got nessy , champ & ogopogo , these creatures are as elusive as aratoothus (giant squid) i believe they are possablly a pleasiosourus decendent of sorts
I think its a great tourist attraction to say the least, but real?? Hard to say. I wonder why they don't drain the lake if they are so sure? Of course only to a point...
YEs I do. There are also similar stories in LAke Champlian in New York State and the is another story about a similar monster in British Columbia in Canada (can't remember the lakes name). But I'll ask you know believes out there, IF you believe that real vampires exist why can you not believe in a giant see monster.
There is proof of really large sea creatures in the ocean in the deepest parts of the ocean. Example: The giant squid many have turn up dead on a beach but in the last couple of years scientists in Japan have located live Giant Squids and a re currently trying to study them.
I think humans can make themselves believe anything if they wish it. Does it make it so? Not in my book. I don't believe in loch ness, I also don't believe in bigfoot, as an Oregonian, the locals would probably disown me. Just my opinion nothing else.
I personally don't believe it. The Nessie story has existed for ages but there's not been a single reliable evidence to go with it. The photo you showed has been disproved as a hoax, I read. Unless a better evidence comes up, I'm just going to believe that the ''monster'' is another way of drawing in tourists.
I DO TOO! My old school was named after St Columba, evil bugger murdered a bunch of pagans who refused to conform. So I heard.
Anyway, later this year (very soon actually) I will be in Scotland, and I am definitely going to go to Loch Ness. I'm taking particular care to avoid the tourist crap.
Maybe it will be I who next glimpses the monster, lol. If I do I'll be sure to take a nice blurry photo. ;)
Appsolutely I believe in Nessy. Why couldn't there be a creature like that? They are constantly finding new creatures of the deep. We have barely touched the ocean depths there are creatures that we haven't even discovered yet.
I completely believe in her. Skeptics are having a hard time proving that she/it doesn't exist. *grins* thats the funny part.
Remember every story has a shread of truth to it some where.....
I don't know whether to believe in the loch ness monster lol! i've heard storys but it could all just be rubbish lol!
I believe the lochness monster is so fictional that makes people believe in them especially the people who make movies and write books about them.
Not sure if I believe or not, but if it is there then I would like to see it myself.
Could be a very shy creature, living in the depths, so yes I beileve it may be.
I believe that it is probably a very old species that doesn't come up for air much and lives in the locks we find new things everday
I don't believe in the loch ness monster myself. But i do believe in unexplained things like the bermuda triangle.
Technically, the Burmuda Triangle has had a few different explanations as to what is it.
i think that its just an animal prolly from the deepest depts of the ocean whom evolved and went into the neaqrest body of water... not a monster at all.. just missunderstood
i doudt it exist. if it did someone would have seen it or took pictures of it by now.
I think the word believe is a strong word for this. There may be come type of animal living there that people see at times.
If you are asking if the whole thing is a hoax, that can certainly be true also.
Believing in it or not believe isn't really necessary.
CemetaryMAN -
Not neccessarily. There are still thousands of things which have yet to be discovered or photographed.
I belive in a lot of the mystery's of the world if we dont there wouldnt be any surprises in the future and this is one i belive in
I think the creature did exist, and due to population either died out or moved to a more secret location.
Also unless the creature is immortal then it must have died a long time ago. Or hopefully there is more of them and this particular one visits this loch on occasion.
I don't think that it hurts to entertain an idea or notion WHILE remaining skeptical all the while. After all, it is truly the trait of an educated person to be able to entertain a thought without having to accept it as fact/truth. It is POSSIBLE that something exists. Skepticism comes into play when attempting to ascertain just WHAT that might be. We don't have to believe what we're told or fall for the first logical-sounding explanation. The ability to think freely and rationally as human beings also offers us the capacity to be skeptical, a trait very important not only in "science", but also in discovery. *shrug* Just a few words to think about.
Nessie is something I'm not totally sure about, despite being ever the skeptic. I should research the issue more.
I seem to remember hearing something about a satellite image being taken that disproved the existence of a creature the size of Nessie, but it could have been from and issue of The Onion for all I know.
