Which artist in your opinion has taken the time to study vampyrism before painting the subject matter ?

Many paint vampyres but in a comical or derogatory sense , many are even portrayed as cartoon characters ...

but what do you consider to be " serious " art of the vampyre clan and would you consider any artists as such to be vampyres themselves ? (whether they admit to it or not? )

As an artist and a former gallery manager, I have seen much art considered dark or disturbing, but this is not what I would call vampiric art, I believe in psy and emotional vampirism, and as such I think almost all good artists are in their own way displaying these traits as good art evokes feelings within both the viewer and the artist themself, great art even more so, there are peices I have seen that with a simple glance transport you to a whole different place, causing a set of emotions that can rage through you like fire, or give you chills like someone wlaking over your grave, and frequently this art is not even of a darker nature, though dark art is deliberately emotive, and often tortured, sometimes in the right context a simple sunset can accomplish the same level of feeling in the viewer.
i'm not sure this is what you were looking for, but i will consider it further.

i don't know any artist by name, but I would have to say any one of them that portrays vampires in a true sense of what they could be, would have to be leaning towards vampirism, the ones that portray them as cartoons they just don't understand or don't want to understand vampirism

Actually when you all get your wish and you get to be a vampire from living like one you will see that all of hollywood, the make up people as well as wardrobe people got it down to a science.

I would like to see Dearman's vampire art. There is a real vampire.

I have never said my art is Vampire related, simply a notation that I have sold art, both my own, and other peoples in a gallery, for me as I said it is the very nature of an artist to act in a vampiric sense, or to do the exact opposite, to give all of yourself leaving nothing left but an empty husk, this is I feel why many artists eventuallt go mad, they are giving too much of themselves into the art, but refusing to take some of the emotion they cause back as a payment

Just a mini poll, without the poll. Does't vampiric art have to portray vampires? Or, does a vampire have to create art that portrays vampires? Is this the only what you find beautiful about it? I mean, I could paint an entire canvas red, name it "Blood," and this could be considered vampiric, ja? Art is up to interpretation. A vampire artist, well their art is up to their own interpretation. Are we not, right now, just commenting on good art in general? :) If this is the case, give me a Da Vinci any day. The reason being, he hated painting. Just the amount of patience he would have to have to do something he hated so well. He was a polymath, but he still had the focus to bring us some of the worlds most loved and recognised paintings.

I agree Mikhail ... A vampire artist does not have to paint vampire related subjects and an artist of vampire sobject matter is not necessarily a vampire.

A great point would be are there any vampire artists that create vampiric art in the self portrait style? (I take it you do not... do you know of any such artist ?)

My question is do we believe that all dark art is Vampire related, I mean there is alot of Satanic Art work out there as well, Or how one may percieve it just a observation, I enjoy all of it yet I sometimes have to wonder if it is what it is or how I want to see it.

well, if you are wondering why you have turned into a vampire, at a certain point in life you will see that the ones closest to you behaved like them, your parents your siblings, your best friends.

All vampire movies begin with an individual that the movie goer knows is a vampire but the rest of the people in the movie think they are just another person run of the mill.

Vampire art reflects this. My comment that hollywood or even make up, not even the horror make up people, but like an ordinary makeup person is going to come into like the theatre during a shoot about halloween and they will know how to make up their faces to tell vampires, hey man we know you are out there....

it si on that level

vampirism is never in your face

vampire artists can portray vampires subjects, but that would go against the nature of the vampire which is to be unnoticed, to be one of the gang, and the way they pull it off is by being able to converse on every subject and lull the people into some form of trusting hypnotic state.

The purpose of vampire art would be to brainwash humans into wanting to be bitten by the lust of evil, and to become part of the conspiracy of evil to make the Earth a Vampire planet.

I consider vampiric art to mean either the portrayal ov vampire(s) or something that would pertain to vampire, such as a bleeding martini glass. The second is the kind I would really like to see more of, but I currently have no favorite artists.

Mikhail and arch nemisis Dearmon, (who is still getting sand out of his hair) both know that life for the artist is never fair. I was lucky that I have a project that the world demands be published, and I get on an ego trip sometimes, but I have met off hand several better writers than myself, all of which were females.

One was a Vampire writer with dark hair in the Reggae Club Nells where the NBA players go in NYC, she was sitting on a antique couch, and she opened up her diary there, and in her immaculate script, she wrote things so exemplary, that I felt secondary when I am a pretty renowned and notoriously "different" poet in my circles that I move.

The fact that I can on any given night go into Manhattan and meet someone who writes better than me, and whom never will be published, it is a shame really. But that is the nature of the artist, it is as once the being ignored by the establishment that makes the writer more powerful, and ultimately if they pass the test of time, this amplification of voice due to being ignored does get the publisher's eyes.

Talent is one thing but desire perseverance and discipline is another. Not all artists make it, because in my opinion the immortality of the icon is based upon vampiric understanding. Becoming a vampire takes guts, and although women traditionally are attracted to vampires and they write better than the likes of me, because the nature of the woman is to remain worthy of marriage and child bearing, it goes against the nature of the femme instinct to actually become a vampire and become an immortal icon through the power of death.

Yes they have the passions, the women, and the understanding, as a lot of writing or even pictoral representation is on the imaginary plane, but there is a difference between the reality of being a vampire and the imagining of being one.

This is why there are not a lot of great female artist out there.

The last time I was on here I told you all about a female writer that had graduated from college as a writing major, did her masters in it, and then a Phd, and she did not become a great writer until she caught AIDS and published BLACK MILK 17 years later, just before she died.

I think it takes death in the breast, in the hearts of mankind to harness the power of life, to know what to communicate, and black milk in her breast did it for her. The rest of the writers are not worth their beans if what they encountered in life did not nearly kill them.

The original question is which artist has taken the trouble to study vampirism before painting the subject. Seán Manchester has undoubtedly studied and researched vampires for most of his life and has painted a number of portraits that have this connection. There is the famous Lusia portrait (reproduced on page 186 of The Highgate Vampire). There are also the portraits of vampire victim Elizabeth Wojdyla and her then boyfriend Keith Maclean. There are also portraits of Carmel and Calantha from his novel (rooted in fact) titled Carmel.

Seán Manchester always works in oil on canvas. I like his paintings because they are quite unlike any others in the genre.

Link to a selection of his art, including the vampire associated portraits identified:

I was just relating how the power of artistry stems from learning the lessons from gleaning from the power of death.

The ambition of the artist is created by the desire to achieve immortality, to conquer life is to conquer death first. Vampires do it better.

How many other supernatural creatures claim immortality?

Therefore, all artists are vampires in their hearts, they may not know it tho

please stop with the subtle "off topic" references, believe me I am so whipped by the moderators you all don't have to keep me in line.

doesn't really matter.I mean you can take one drawing and show it to 20 different people and each person's interpretation of the piece would differ from another. It's all in how you view something on a personal level. Some people's depth of perception and ability to critique some forms of art are better than others.

"I was lucky that I have a project that the world demands be published"
hehe oh that old joke yet again, try some new material, or actually prove me wrong by taking that disjointed pile of scrap paper to a publisher and see how fats the have you dragged out by security....
As to the vampirologist, putting a painting you paint in a book you produce does not make it a FAMOUS painting by any given stretch, do you have any opinions which are not a barely hidden love affair with bishop manchester?
when his works get showings in galleries, then you can refer to him as a famous artist, i'm not saying that only famous people can be artists, but don't refer to a painting as famous because some guy puts his own painting in a book HE wrote, that is self gratification, not fame.
but as a discourse on art, I feel it is entirely irrelevant for the artist to have done indepth studies of vampires, the Idea of a concept is all thats needed for art, a feeling about a subject matter, sometimes simply an emotion put to color

Part of the Hollywood television/ moving image programming subliminal plot Daermon is for the ones who are dying, who have learned the truth for art's sake are to encouraged subliminally to accomplish their magnum opus. Have you not picked up on this?

Maybe you have to actually be dying from your art to geet the subliminal messge, and your art so good that it does in fact demand to be exposed for the good of all, in this fake planet.

Vampire art is more real because it addresses realities that others do not even acknowledge.

Nice topic, it goes rigtht to the heart of the matter.

I think the emotive art Daermon is talking about has something to do with a passage I came across. I have been thinking of putting it in my profile for the past couple of days.

*****************************************

"The polarity of light and subtle energy needed to create a universe is also needed to create sacred art that resonates in harmony with the universe. I will define sacred art as art derived from an entranced state of consciousness wherein the unconscious merges with the conscious through the imaginal.

"When this direct imaginative awareness occurs, the visual system of the brain resonates to the fluid vital force and linear light in diverse degrees and angles, yielding what Heinrich Kluver called 'form constants'. The dominant patterns of archetypes are herein revealed as visual abstract patterns of extreme luminosity. More than being merely decorative, sacred art uses vital force and consciousness, as a cosmic energy transducer and a transmitter of information. Such art can heal the illusory split between matter and archetypes incurred by our sense perception and our emotional and mental conditioning.

"Nothing less than the awakening of the imaginal will redeem the desacralization of our world. No posture, political program, or forceful means can do so. It means nothing less than turning the world inside-out, whereby our creativity is awakened from true inspiration. The imaginal is that faculty that can apprehend the archetypal realm as forms and images, the faculty that elevates our perception to direct gnosis. Imagination here is not fantasy, but a state of supernal vision.

"Imaginal forms are epiphanies, theophanies. Accordingly, the higher function of the imaginal as ephinany is the state wherein all myths and patterns of initiation take place. It is therefore through the refined and rarefied soul that guidance from the archetypal realm comes and from which the sacred emerges into life. Those who awaken this imaginal faculty are prophets, not as predictors of future events, but as oracles, speakers for the invisible archetypal powers.

"When the artist goes deep enough within to bring forth the work that originates from the Light of Cosmic Intelligence, he or she draws forth archetypal presences through tone, color and design, leading us to pure Platonic beauty.

"The awareness that the whole is in each part, as in the holographic model, enables us to find the timeless in time, to experience infinity in the finite. The imaginal body is the interior vehicle that can be released from the tyranny of exclusive empiricism and logic. By enhancing our visionary and intuitive capacity, we can become aware of the archetypal powers and let them inspire our creativity in order to transform the wasteland of the Earth."

Before this thread it hadn't really been something that I had heard of.

Although I totally respect other people who like art/photography etc as art, for me it has to be paintings

I can't think of any vampires who paint, so I have been looking around for people who paint vampire related subjects, so far I think its DravenSwann who I found on afn.org

I think art is beauty and anybody that finds that beauty should consider it art.

well music is art, and in music beauty. One of the turning points in my reincarnation was the use of music. One of the fellows on here said he liked to turn up his metal on high and like do something, I forgot how he used music.

Now there aree all kinds of music, some more beautiful than others, and I know the netal I listen to is different than the headbanging music he listened to for his purposes, the metal I listen to has a classical chord progression in it, like an Iron Maiden tends to have, and a virtuoso element that lends to energy transformation in the soul. I used all kinds of music, but to escape from being a vampire, the music that I selected had some musical quality in it, whereas the frantic nature of it was absent, and the signature of what makes music uniformly beautiful beautiful.

I will say that being a DJ was an honor to aid in the process, and though I did not always have the time to select the right music, and I went with like a stack of ten CDs at the end of it, but there was a little surprise at the end.

I played guitar from like 18 until 27, and then I stopped for about 10 full years after tinkering on an acoustic that once a string fell off I never replaced it.

But, I picked up the guitar which at this point has 3 strings on it, and because in getting the new body the brain was being rewired, the high quality of the predictable patterns of music and music theory rules made me understand music on an internal level I never had before, and I am playing better guitar on those three strings than even at my best after 10-12 years of playing 3 hours a day back then.

I know sometimes when I dance, especially with the new hip hop they try to mix in beats that don't exist, and while it is a song I have never heard before and everyone throws their hands up in the air and says what they are supposed to say at the time, I have never heard the song before, so I don't know what to do, but even in the formation of the music rules of hip hop where they try to trhow off the dinosaurs they go against their own agenda by even sticking to the rules of artistic pauses, aas there are rules to that too.

So it only happened a couple of times during the summer, when the DJ played a song to throw off the old timers, and I don't know how I knew what to do, but for some reason I would stop moving, or do a double move like a robot and freeze or keep repeating the double move, just because I recognized the musical framing or phrasing had completed a perfect circuit.

Now because I reprogrammed my brain with such phrasings of what is beautiful music, or artful pauses, I think not only because of the use of the music in my reincarnation will I play guitar better, as I am, but I will also dance better as the conduit of the music theory in my head is tight.

Sorry I elaborated, but I think the poster before me is correct, beauty in music or any art form, be it vampiric, has order for a reason, it is a form of communication, of lifting the spirits from the dead, seducing the living with sound, and sealing souls inside revitalized bodies in perfect rhythm.

The best vampire depictions that i've seen were in a graphic novel called "blood: a tale" with watercolor illustrations by Kent Williams.

Wouldn't vampyric art be that which feeds the artist?

Art is personal... no-one but the artist understands it, and any attempt to do so is corrupt.

Art that is commercial... like nearly all vampyric art, is designed to evoke a response, is egocentric... and quite vampyric. *laughs*

I know jack about art, so this theory is quite spur of the moment, and not well thought out. But some of you might understand what I am trying to get at... even if I don't quite know how to express it... LOL.

I have looked into all of the above mentioned and I have to say that they are all outstanding. Art is nothing more than the expression of the artist's soul and therefore should be appreciated no matter the content but as far as a favorite...Matt Huges is my personal favorite. The style is sensual, yet terrifying. A delicious combination.

Luis Royo is my longtime favourite, i've just got into Jason Beam as well as Victoria Frances. I find her work different as it seems more feminine (possibly as she is the only woman of my favourites).

Whether they are vampyre artists or not i am not sure but they all seem to have studied their form well.

I am still researching this particular subject. I do want to agree with mikhail. Shouldn't we be listed as artists even if we don't particularly paint or draw? I think I am a very good writer and I can sing. but i haven't painted that many pics. I do like to dabble in oil pastel art tho'. I really like oil pastels drawings.

Matt Hughes and Victoria Frances seem to have a lead in conceptual vampyre art. However there are some excellent illustrations published in "The Art of Vampire the Masquerade", not fine art, but it captures the image well.

At times his work is touched with more then a passing of fantasy, but at times he tends to capture an essence i would like to believe has a small part of truth in his work. The artist is Luis Royo
