I have noticed through my travels on this site that there is a significant amount of memebers that participate in Wiccan and other pagan rituals as well as Satanists and other "occult" organizations. This in a way almost over shadows the Vampire theme.
So here is my question:
What are the common threads that bring these together? Are they somehow related and if so what info do you have to back this theory?
I think maybe cos vampires are moslty anti chruch maybe and you dont see many christians wanting to be vampires, but i couldbe wrong ,thats jsut my thoughts
All of the religions or beliefs of the people within the Rave would be looked down upon by the Church. So that is one common thing we all share. Other then that they are all considered dark arts. And they all have to do with energy on some leval.
Sorry for spelling very tired

STABB666 you said it wonderfully. Pagan is simply an umbrella term for anything not Christian. I dont know about you but I dont know many christian vampires..... I am considered and ecclectic pagan... I follow no particular path, and have my own set beliefs on how things are. I believe it all plays hand and hand. I dont see why a vampire couldnt practice a form of faith if he or she chose to.
but how do you know that some vampires dont follow the christian beliefs????........i am pagan .... but i do know there are many christian believers on this site as well who call themselves vampires......

Well I personally find that odd, but to each their own. Some may choose to go that route. I only find it odd because in a way that in itself contradicts one another.
I would have to agree with Stabb on this one. Paganism was a term that described all beliefs that were Non-Christian. Speaking for myself I do think it is possible to be both Christian and Vampire. I am both and do not see where the conflict would lie unless I were a sang vampire, which I am not, and accidentally killed someone. I am sure that there are some Christians that would not share my beliefs on this; however, I really don't care what they think in this regard. Faith is unique to every particular individual and one cannot be condemned for another's differing views.
i know i myself don't follow any religion..though i do consider myself...spiritual, that there is a force connecting us all.. just like any energy and matter in the world and universe... understaind and learning to control that connection is something i myself am attempting to learn. if you look at some asian philosophies, the energy in your body can actually be channeled to do amazing things, soem believe it can be used to heal yourself as well as others, some think it can be focused into a physical force... both of which are things i am attempting to learn and master myself if possible
I'm a catholic and a sang vampire. I was raised catholic and I stick with it because at least they acknowledge that vampires are real. As far as dealing with the contradictions, I hold to the beliefs with some leniency. I acknowledge the in the end, the religion was formed by man and was affected by the times. Plus, if you think about it, Catholics believe that during communion, the wine becomes Jesus's blood and Jesus tells us to drink of his blood for eternal life. How do you get more sang. vampirish than that?
I do think that the two have a lot in common most vampire are drawn to the freedom of the pagns way of life
interesting point LordLestat I do have to agree with you. but would also add that most vampires choose the pagan belifes to couple with more time then not.
because pagan and wiccans are open minded and don't disbelieve in vampires.
that is tru and we don't shun from the vampire like some of the other main stream belifes
I think the common thread between Pagan beliefs and the Vampire lifestyle is the fact that neither are accepted in the "main stream" society..so to speak. VR is a place where we have the freedom to socialize without judgment.
stabb i totally agree with your last statement.........and i think damian said it very well to.....
i just think we are who we are and it dosent really matter what beliefs we have... because everybodys beliefs are diffrent and we all walk diffrent paths regardless .... its human nature its where our minds and souls take us...........we find the beliefs that work for us and work them into our lives.....its unfair for some to say its impossible to believe that and be what you claim to be.... well outhers could say the same about your beliefs its a two way street and i think everyones beliefs should be respected.....
Religion and spirituality eventually finds its way into everything... this being the nature of modern day society.
When Christianity separated from Paganism a lot of misconceptions began about the savagery of Paganism, which has through time created a link to the sacrificial.
I believe the reason there are so many pagans on this site is actually due to a couple of things. One is that as a whole, pagans are already a fringe group when it comes to acceptance by general society and so are comfortable with others who are in the same situation. Secondly is that I’ve found when searching for web sites that can be of interest to pagans, links are given to VampireRave and other sites like it that appeal to our type groups. This makes is easier for us to find VR and once found it’s just too good to leave.
I do not see any reason though that it’s exclusive to pagans or any other faith or lack of one.
Each peron pn here has their own belifs and ways of life and i think that whom ever on here has chosen their own path and way of life and we hav eall found a way to co-exsist together with one main cause or goal; to be united and feel at home in a place where noone will judge us for who and what we are without being persecuted (ms?) and ridiculed.
thats my opinion and experience on here anyways.
Personally, when I think back on it, I was drawn to Vampirism long before I even knew what Pagan was. And, I don't see any problem with a Vampire having a religion... ? Paganism is generally very accepting of well, pretty much anything, so the two fit together quite easily. To be a Vampire and to be Pagan is to have that fasination with blood and the darker aspects of life and at the same time appreciate the Universe and all it's mysteries. Usually, you'll find a Vampiric Pagan leaning toward the darker mysteries and rituals, though there are many Pagans out there who do the same without being Vampires.
All of the religions have the common factor that they are not accepted by society.
darkchyld,
I'm sure that I understand what you mean.
Surely, religion is one of the core binding factors of any society?
i think pagan/vamprism everyone has vamp in them they just dont know it yet! hehe thats my opinon!
I don't think it is impossible to be Christian and involved in vampirism. I know many Christians who take part. But I think that perhaps pagans and vampires have always shared the bond of being on the outs with society so it is natural that one could find a place in both.
They are related because they are all occult.
They're not particularly the mainstream and it's put into one group category.
Plus, some people here come for the vampires and stay for the understanding they get from other members who believe in the occult and similars.
I feel there is a sense of acceptance among pagans and vampires. What was to be a site for vampires has become a meeting place for all, pagan, wiccan and vampire alike. The common thread among them all? True freedom to live as you see fit.
Interesting question
I think that anyone on this site is openminded
And I see wiccans and pagans as openminded people
Many of us are pagans (not Christian) in our beliefs because the Biblical reference to blood and the comsuming it to be forbidden. Even after Noah left the arc and was allowed to comsume meat, he told to not consume the blood because the blood was the life of the animal, and that belonged to God. I doubt that many practicing Jews and Christian would be attacted to a site aimed a vampirism.

echo: Christianity never 'separated' from Paganism. Pagans were converted- some by choice and some by the sword, unfortunatley. I have conflicting views on this as I am a Christian, yet very connected to my blood roots.
I've met several Christian vampires on this site- and they are so because they view the Bible in a way where this is either acceptable- or a fact that in the end can be forgiven by a merciful and just God. I don't have all the answers on that one but I know where to go to find them :)
As far as the correlation between Pagans and modern vampirism- to me it only makes sense that if people are going to be lumped in a big section together- they would start gaining knowledge of these other 'worlds' in their lumped section and have a sparked interest.
For me, as a Christian in love with this beautifully dark site and many other things in life- well friends, I think religion has a LOT of darkness. This is LIFE. I am here because this is humanity, and that is what we all are- humans. No matter how we view it, how we pray, how we focus, believe or not believe~ we're faced with the same struggles and decisions.
I believe in my specific brand of Christianity. But most of all, I am sharing this world with all of you rather you are like me or not- and I'd rather focus on the similarities than the differences.
I think that I have to agree with some of the other posts above me. The common thread that I have found is that a good majority of vamps are not Christian, or Catholic. What we do, and how we believe in life and death do not for the most part, correlate to the Bible and God and Jesus and all that.
i think we are all here because no matter what we belive this place is home and we feel like we belong
Dark Greeting's,
My 2 cents worth:Look at it this way,Crist said " Eat of my body drink of my blood",Sounds like Vamprism (or cannabilism) to me.

i would put it like this any religious belief you have before becoming a vampire would stay with you if it your honest belief...
To be perfectly honest, I think it's because of the thrill of vamparism that intrigues us Pagans and Wiccans. The idea and concept of holding life in the palm of your hands.
I am a Pagan and I'm here because I have friends who are vamparic. A lot of us have been through hard times and solved it by having interest in the supernatural and the gothic culture. So it could be love of vampyres in movies, books, and other sources as well that inspired us somehow. And that could be why we are here. There are numerous possibilities. but to be poerfectly frank, they are all closely related one aspect: they are things society does not find "normal" and rather looks down on. So I believe this website is for those who believe in things not normal in society, such as Wicca, Satanism, Paganism, and Vamparism.
:)
(I have to stress this is just my opinion as I don't mean to offend anyone!)
In my time online, I have seen and met quite a few Christian/Catholic vampires.
The thing with vampirism - at least for me - is that it isn't something I chose. It's just who I am, how I was born. Kind of like diabetes - it's just a condition that I have.
Religion is a very personal choice and really has no connection to vampirism. Yes, there aren't a LOT of Christian/Catholic vampires around - more than likely they don't come to sites such as VR - but they do exist.
I see why people would make the connection, though; the more outspoken of the vampires tend to be of alternate paths...
VAMPIRISM, WICCAN, WOLVES, SATANISTS, ATHEISTS... ALL OF THESE BELONGS TO THE DARK ARTS, SOMETHING IN WHICH THE CATHOLIC OR ANY RELIGIOUS GROUPS OPPOSES. HERE IN VAMPIRE RAVE, USERS FOUND SOLACE IN EACH OTHER AS WE HAVE SIMILAR BELIEFS.
ANYWAY, RARE CATHOLICS KNOW THAT PAGANISM IS THE ROOT OF CHRISTIANITY AND ONCE IN HISTORY, THEIR RELIGION WAS USED POLITICALLY AND THAT MEMBERS KILL EACH OTHER.
THEIR MINDS ARE CLOSED TO US ALL BECAUSE THEY ARE FANATICS TO A GOD THEY CREATED
As to why there are so many pagan/wiccan members here with the vampire site -- why better to accept and be fascinated in vampires than a person who readily believe in fay and dragon kind? In the world of occult the witch (as a generalized term) and things that go bump in the night are perfectly suited for each other.
I think the majority of people are here because they are drawn to this kind of world. I also think that the same people fall foul of the rules of organised religion and have chosen to seek out their own path. That in turn means that the majority of people here are carving their own niche in society by being true to themselves and not the indoctrinated views of 'normal' religion.
Having said that I also appreciate that there are people here enlightened enough to understand that even if they are religious they don't have to follow the letter of the bible (or other sacred text of choice) in order to be able to believe in God.
i think anything not understood by the christian church is label pagen, and i do feel thee is a slight connection to vamopires and pagenism, if you remember in the movie Bram Strokers Dracula, vlad was cursed to be what he was for renouncing god and desicrating the temple in his castle
honestly, i think it has very little to do with beliefs. Any religion is bound to have at least a few Vampyres among their ranks.
as this site is for pagans, wiccans, vampires, and many people that feel socially connected here, it is my belief that some maybe christians, catholics, etc and so there may be the chance that a christian is a vampire... it just could be possible there is a connection... as vampires don't necessarily represent evil.
The Websters Collegiate dictionary defines Pagan as being not of the god-based religion. I myself am a Satanist,, but also a Vampire, and once a member of the House of Nosferatu in Houston Texas. The term satanist does not mean I am a devil woshiper,, but someone that is against all forms of a god-based religion, and we believe that we are gods ourselves,, with the ability 2 take life at will. A Vampire is also a god unto themselves,, at least in my opinion,, thus forming the link of belief between the 2.
I think a lot of people associate the "Vampire transformation" with ritual and ritual with religion. It's hard to find a nice Roman Catholic Vampire nowdays. (lol)
Everyone is "coming out of the broomcloset" as a Pagan.
not everyone here beleves there a vampire. so they go to a belife they can backup, in the eye of doubt.
I think that mainstream society makes them relate- so I think thats why theres such a connection.
Not to mention, the beliefs of vampirism and the beliefs in a Christian God TO ME seem like an oxymoron. So I guess it would just make most sense for someone to practice a Pagan religion as opposed to worship a God and a Bible that deem you 'unholy'
okay, now don't get upset - i dont wish to offend anyone, but i see what most vampires and pagans (and even wiccans) have in common - at least the ones i know anyway. it's a matter of style and fashion. all the vampires i know, and most of the pagans i know are also somewhat Gothy, if you know what i mean. they tend to like gothic art, wear gothic clothes, wear gothic jewelery, and if you read a few profiles you'll find a lot of people here like goth music. lets face it, certain types of people are attracted by certain lifestyles and certain arts.
I completely agree with you karnstein.
The way that people dress has a huge impact on it
heh damn karnstein...that ones a pretty harsh observation...even more so for it's large level of truth..lol
not in every case...but in many
I have to agree with NcBandit and Lord Lestat on this. Also both christian and wiccan are spiritual in a certain point of view. I'm both and that's how I feel about it.
Stabb:> the concept of Christ and the religion set forth by the christian bible is anti-awakening more than anything else.
Many religions in the world that are structured around the Christ and one God are very limited in focus on the self. Rather it is a focus on uniting with the divine in the end. Very few christians understand that this is a form of spiritual death. To unite with the ideals of the christian god results in unity with him forever. Heaven is not a concept where the individual remains an individual with wings, but rather the soul is taken into the presence of god, if you will. The soul is reabsorbed back into the creator model and as such, is completely obliterated.
Most christians shy away from that fact and think that they earn their wings and go on being themselves in a perfect heaven. However, the perfection of heaven will not allow imperfection to enter except when transformed and totally, perfectly united with the god.
Paganism, on the other hand, encompasses many faiths that are for the most part self focused and focused on the enlightenment of the self. With enlightenment and awakening, be it vampiric or other, the soul individuates from the divine and seeks out its own path to achieving self divinity. The soul is inherently perfect in itself and understanding this allows for awakening, true awakening to the powers of the divine self. Ultimately, it also allows for individuation where one "becomes their own star in the heavens", apart from any god, but rather a god themselves.
Like unity with the divine god concept, individuation takes at least as much (if not more) work.
Karnstein, I am a vampire and am not Goth. I am corporate style. I don't even dress Goth when I have a weekend to myself. So it is not a matter of "style".
Jenova,
I may be misreading the intent within your words, but are you disagreeing that belief in ones self as our own 'god', is a religious faith?
I totally agree with almost everything that you have said, which makes me wonder if I've missed something more.
DELL662
Hello,
You are wrong that a lot of christians would not partake in that, most, if not a lot would do so if they were to find out that vampires are not weak to the cross and other objects, since that they will say that vampires can't be evil...
I myself would have to agree with Stabb666 and Cursedtodarkness....Pagan is the ultimate umbrella term for all things not christian or widely acceptable by the so called "norm". I have never read of anything that would prevent vampires from practicing the Craft or any of the many other choices that are out there.
I think Paganism, Wiccan, and other nontraditional relgions can have a more fluid quality that allows believers some personal freedom in the their belief system. Chritianity and many other traditional relgions have rigourous dogma and cannon laws that inhibit behavior associated with the mythological vampire. As fas as the modern day vampire, I could not imagine the Catholics, Baptists, Islamics, Jews or a plethera of other established religions to be accepting of someone who claims to be a vampire in their congregation. (Note that is not barring individuals who believe in Catholicism while being a vampire, but merely it would not be accepted in the fellowship).
i think pegans and wiccans are here b/c like the lycons and everyone else....they find comfort in being yourself....you are accepted who you are and not what you are......
and for vampires not being christian...i know of some that believe in both....it depends on each individual...
Like some people have said before wiccan and paganism dont criticize vampirism they are very open minded. They have both been on the terms of almost being extinct and they would have to stick to each other.
if you look at it in its base form it all diff. forms of occult...
Vampirism is the supernatural equivalent for those who serve Satan as the reward of eternal life is to those who serve God.
The vampire in essence is an antichrist whose cult corrupts the redeeming Blood of Christ and mimics the afterlife with a perverse resurrection beyond the grave.
It is the inversion of all things Christian.
none of the religions are that understode I think thats why they form together and some have a darkness about them that might attract people to thoughs sertain group... also with a need to belong somewhere

I practice the Native Path, I guess that would be sort of be considered as spiritual, or pagan.
No Matter What You Call Yourself(Pagan, Goth,Wiccin Ect.) This Is One Of The Few Places You Can Go To Freely express Yourself without Feeling like you are going to offend someone. As Well As If You Are Curious About Any Sub-Culture You Might want to learn about.
Well if you look directly at the myth of Vampires and what they are then you can understand straying away from Christian, Mulim, Judiasm and other related religions all together. Many people just find it hard to really be a Vampire and worship a God that may not embrace them as say someone who does not dwell in darkness.
But that is only one perspective.
The other perspective is that Vampires such as the ones on this site and amoungst others whether they may carry a dease similar to the effects of Vampirism or have that life style don't always have to follow a Pagan or Wiccan religion. I have seen many Catholics and Christians mentioned on here and they may not be who you expect them to be. That is why reading profiles always helps. :) Many Catholics who know the Catholic faith well may dwell into darkness and the occult, The interest in that has to do with understanding everything and never being ignorant. Much of Christianity and the Cathilic faith is dwelled in the occult.
As for the faith in Paganism and other related religions that is do to personal perspective. Sites like this bring in an Alternative view of life and sometimes you will gain diffrent varity of religions not just the major ones. I have found more people open to diffrent faiths on here then I have on any website. That makes me slightly happy person.
Part of the stigma comes from the fear of the unknown. Alot of "christians" will associate wicca with the devil and thereby satanism. Never mind the fact that Satan is the Christian incarnation of evil and most Wiccans do not even believe in Satan.
Now the link. In the some of the original Vampire myths/legends An individual is cursed with vampirism if he commits a particularly henious act of evil or commits some sort of sin.
A lot of people will make the association and thereby say that vampires are withches and vice verca....
i have to agree with lordlestat.. there is no connection between vampires and pagans.
its just that christians see vampires and goths are dark creatures, therefore thinking that they belong to any religion opposing catholicism like paganism satanism or any occult organizations.
I don't know...I mean I'm into the necronomicon but I have no idea
tony velasco: i think necromancers are those who can converse with the souls of the dead...
in line with this thread, i don't think that you have to be a necromancer to know the connection with vampires and pagans because both are walkng the earth.. i'm sure you know that vampires are not souls right? so even simple humans like us can talk to them...
its just that vampires are always thought to be dark creatures, and therefore associated with religions that are not catholic
Lots of beliefs are looked down upon by the churches.. what the everyday society would consider the norm, does not apply to other things.. I honestly believe that people do Fear the Unknown, therefore causing them to ridicule and put down.
uuuummmmmm I consider myself a Christian and I believe in vampires and the paranormal. Maybe I am an exception to the "rule" but I do not find myself pre judging an individual or putting them into a specific catagory due to their beliefs.
This is a very touchy subject, especially for me. In my current life as a child, I was baptized and accepted God in my life. Therefore, technically I would be called a Christian. But. . . I do not claim it. I believe not in hypocricy. I am a vampire though I believe in God and Satan, heaven and hell, blah blah blah. I am not pagan, and I do practice Wicca and Witchcraft. I do not confuse one with the other, every one in itself deserves its own respect and individuality. The same with Pagans, Wiccans, Christians, Vampires, Buddists, etc. I treasure all these in respect to those who follow them and I would hope that everyone else would do the same. I have been shunned from churches many, many times. They suck. But still, no need to not show love. I believe that everyone and everything may have a second chance (with me).
Back to the original post : Yes I do think that because we each might have been looked down upon by churches/society/government, we have assembled here to converse and enjoy those who share a few things in common. Whether or not it is that we are vampires or pagans, or whatever. . . . It shouldn't matter. All that matters is that we ARE here, TOGETHER, no matter the reason.
to the person who said that anything anti-christian was pagan I totally disagree..does that make Buddists pagan..or muslims?? and i think it's just a natural connection between paganism and vampirism
Christians, and I am one, are vampires in a sort but just do not realize it. Nearly every christian partakes of the sacrament every sabbath. The sacrament is the drinking of Christ blood and eating his flesh. yet, if I told those I attend church with that I like blood, they would avoid me.
I think the common thread that brings all of the groups together is they all have desire to live in a magikal world. They believe in the supernatural as a group.
I've never really thought about the common theme that lets us vary religions and beliefs but still be the same. I think it might be the fact that they have beliefs allow people to work with energy. Whether human or no.
Vampirism is the Non believing, and Paganism is belief in a higher power
This is my understanding
I Think This Site is not ecclusive To the Vampire Community, You Have So many Kinds Of People Here Who Like To Be with Others Who Will Not Judge them for what they are.
they are linked due to the fact that they do not practice a set uniform religion as the christian church portrays if you are of dark arts you are in a sense pagan...But regardless to our beliefs are those who believe differantly we are all here because we find a place to belong....
We are not judged by who or what we are or what we believe...
Thats what makes this home to as many of us as it does...
I dont feel theres a real conection... and i think alot us us have ended up here and finding this is a place where we all can be without judgement... and being judged for what we believe... and so many do have different beliefs... To us here I dont think it really matters and we learn from each other as we go!
now ive only just started on the wiccan path.but i believe you can be a vampire without being satanic,or wiccan.although the wiccan path is drawing me.
This is only my opinion (which is only worth what I cahrge for it), but I think that Pagans and Vampires have a sort of kinship, both being viewed as social pariahs and all.
We understand each other on a certain level...♥
Vampires as well as any other creature in the universe is an energy. Hence, energy=magick and the use of manipulatioin or use of said energy or magicks. Tis silly to think we are different when we all practice magicks or energy work in some way.We been interwoven since the beginning of time.
i myself fall under what people would call christian but that doesn't mean im not interested in learning about other cultures and religions. i believe in Christ. i also believe in some of the wiccan theory's/laws i also take a scientific look at religion from time to time. i suppose i celebrate some pagan related holidays such as Christmas which is the churches attempt to christianize there decorating of the tree and other customs and i celebrate Easter (resurrection Sunday) by coloring eggs which has nothing to do what so ever with Jesus...or a bunny. vampire rave is a community for people who want to learn from other sources that are unique. i suggest taking the foundational class in my ministry if you want to learn about how different religions and how out society if affected by them and also things about Adam and eve and speaking in tongues. going to www.theway.org might help.
I think for the most part people will follow what they are used to some have an interest in wicca but are vampyre. Like most religions or beliefs people will mix them up to suit themselves it is just another way of being who you are instead of following what everyone thinks you should be doing like following only one path
I have to agree that article from witchvox sums it up, as yes anything that wasn't condoned by the catholic church was considered " Pagan", but I too have have come across others that don't considered them self pagan/wiccan/ but fall into the Vamp world.... So i guess it all depends on the individual persons beleifs as that is one that that is our own... well i guess that is also up for debate freedom of religion lol ... Me , I considered myself a eclectic solitary pagan, i don't follow a certain path i take what comes to me from each tradition....
Dark Blessings

i just happen to be a pagan vampire
i am a vamp and im pagan its like asking someone is there a link with having custard with your apple pie lol
