For those of us that do chant, is there one that you use ona regular basis ?
I know for myself when I am having a anxiety attack, We all come From The Goddess, always help me to calm and recenter myself.
Here is a great website on common chants.
http://www.witchscauldron.net/cauldron/chants.htm
i am notinto chanting but i am sure that if i was i would have one that i used regularly
when I feel in danger I may say something like:
Power with in, shield me
or a silly one (Perfect power protects me.)
If my brother(6) or sister(8) get hurt I have them say
Owie fix, Owie Fix your the pixie that I pick, Bring the magick come right quick.
Lol :D Ya that last ones a little silly but it helps the little ones keep their mind off of whats hurting.

when I don't feel safe I chant:
Divine Goddess,
Goddess Divine.
Divine God
God Divine.
if evil dwells with in this place,please make it leave my space.
As we are on the topics of both chanting and alchemy in the forum, if I may combine the two for a moments time for the purpose of sharing this web page as it is relevant to the topics at hand.
Violet Flame Invocations
These invocations (also known as chants) involve alot of patiance, as all invocations (chants) should. Use them on a regular basis if you so choose.
To help center myself i use a very common goddess chant
"Freya, Ashanti, Hoth, or Reana, Reya, Mot, The Moragon
I'm rasing up the goddess.
Fill my soul
I'm raising up the spirit
Make me whole"
this helps me center and clear my thoughts as well as impowers me.
That is actualy been adapted into a song.
when i feel down i play it on repeat.
after the 2nd go around i'm usualy back to balanced again.
I don't chant often. But I have been using a method you might call chanting. Where I resonate the Sonic vibration of a particular Rune I wish to invoke. Its vry simmilar to what the Monks use during meditation. I have at times strung several Runic Vibrations to form a kind of chant.
Thanks for that added info on the violet flame. I was unaware of its associations with the Christ-consciousness phenomena.
"out of the marrow and into the bone, out of the bone and into the blood, out of the blood into the flesh, out of the flesh into the hair, out of the hair into the stone, out of the stone into the green green earth, out of the green green earth into the forest, out of the forest and into the void."
Or some varition on it depending the mood. Usually works best for me.
I do tend to repeat the same thing over and over. It is not a regular chant but just something I learned from childhood.
I don't like praying, but I do enjoy listening to monks chant. It helps that I don't understand what they're saying.
I hate missing the "om" at the beginning and end of yoga. It centers me, but only if I hit a certain range.
I'm so stressed right now i dont think i can or could sit still long enough to chant to calm my self, wish i could though.
I like the chant is the movie..'The burbs'
"I'm not going to listin to this,I'm not going to listin to this now."
heehee.
Usually if I hear chanting..usually by males..I fall asleep.I donno why.
LadyDarkRayne
Thank you for sharing the site. I liked the fact you could hear the chant as well. Simply beautiful to listen to even if I dont chant. Perhaps I should consider taking it up.
I do not chant but instead just talf to the god and goddess
I am just learning about meditation and chanting. I know that the way you are breathing is important as well. Here is a Kirtan Kriya chant that I have been using:
# Sit in an upright position on the floor or in a straight backed chair. Rest your hands on your knees with palms facing upwards.
# Chant the syllables Sa, Ta, Na, Ma - lengthen the ending of each sound as you repeat them, ...aaaaaaaaah.
# Touch your index finger tip to the tip of your thumb as you chant Sa.
# Touch your middle finger tip to the tip of your thumb as you chant Ta.
I never had or was taught a formal chant but I keep repeating to myself
"positive energy in'
"negative energy out"
I also found it more helpful voicing it rather than internalizing it.
The rune chants are a variation of the Ohm sounds of harmony. Each set has a differant imprint of sound connected to it...Much like that of musical notes. No set words, just humming with rythm.
well i dont know if i actually chant, or if they are more like affirmations. but it all depends on what is happening at the moment as to what i say to myself.
it is supposed to be a very good way to keep yourself centered and grounded
I dont use chanting all that much other than mentally, to help me focus or relax.
***Wolfspirits***
Would you mind telling me what your chant means??? I'm very interested.
Interesting thread right now I can use anything to get myself centered again. Thanks for the link!
I do chants for grounding daily now...seems to help me sleep better.
I too use We all come from the Goddess but like the site very much as exploring new ones is helpful.
Very good link. =]
Sad to say, not many people in my town who do any chanting. =[
I chant alone love.i don't know many that do that anymore.
I usually center myself by breathing...sometimes I use om//
cool thanks for the information i will put it to good use.
I use the same chant as Blood on Roses said before:
Divine Goddess,
Goddess Divine.
Divine God
God Divine.
If evil dwells with in this place, please make it leave my space.
I'm not real big on the chanting. I usually just try to focus on something or the object.
this is a great thread full of information, thanks for the insite
Fantastic info.. especially that you can hear it.. thx for the post..
"In the beginning was the logos" -- the word or sound scriptures worldwide express the idea that the first cosmic manifestation was vibration, whether sound, light, or breath, and that this primal vibration, differentiating into sounds, colors, or rhythmic breathing, formed the basis for all that has followed.
In today's renaissance of the healing arts many new-old ideas are emerging, some dealing with the physical and psychological effects of music and vibration. Several current streams of research and thought are brought together in Music.
Music therapy is still in its infancy. Soothing music can help relieve pain and stress and to promote healing and relaxation which affect the autonomic, immune, endocrine, and neuropeptide systems as well as encouraging positive emotional states.
i will dedinately check out the link.I have been looking for a new way to calm myself and try to find peace.
Excellent post Plz! I am also going to check out that thread.
oops sorry about that I meant I was going to check out the link. lol
I use a lot of different chants. The one I've used most this last week as I focused on a major healing for my friend's blunt force trauma head injury:
Sure as the wind,
My sisters, and
Sure as the land
Sure as the sun doth shine
We will raise our sound again.
I chose that one to represent my desire for her to be whole and healthy enough to be able to raise energy and work with it in circle again.
For group unity:
There's a river of birds in migration
A nation of women [people] with wings.
or
We are the flow and we are the ebb;
We are the weavers, we are the web.
I use the classic Ancient Mother or the Kore chant for connecting with Goddess, and sometimes the classic We All Come from the Goddess:
Ancient Mother, I hear you calling
Ancient Mother; I hear your song;
Ancient Mother, I hear your laughter;
Ancient Mother, I taste your tears.
Isis, Astarte, Diana, Hecate
Demeter, Kali, Inanna
We all come from the Goddess
And to Her we shall return
Like a drop of rain
Flowing to the ocean.
For invoking the God, I tend to use two, depending on which Goddess chant I used, more commonly:
Horned One! Lover! Son!
Leaper in the Corn!
Deep in the Mother
Die and be reborn!
Or if I used We All Come from the Goddess:
We all come from the Sun God
And to Him we shall return
Like a spark of flame
Floating to the heavens.
If I'm trying to change something, especially within my own personality or abilities, I often use:
She changes everything she touches
And everything she touches changes
For invoking/balancing the elements, I like to use:
Fire and Air,
Fire and Air,
Earth, Water
Earth, Water
or
The earth, the air, the fire, the water
Returns, returns, returns, returns.
or
Air I am;
Fire I am;
Water, Earth, and Spirit I am.
If I'm outside and it's bitter cold and windy, I often invoke Stribog's cloak with the following chant (Stribog is my patron deity and the Russian lord of the winds):
Stribog, the wind is strong today, my father;
Wrap thy cloak around me so it will be no bother.
That one's important because if I get too cold, my fibromyalgia flares up significantly and I end up in pain for 2-3 days. It's nice to avoid as much of that as I can, because it's never good when every muscle in your body tries to get a cramp at the same time... ;)
And if I just want to focus on how we are all interconnected with the earth and what affects one thing affects us all, I like a translated Iroquois [Native American] song:
The earth is our Mother;
we must take care of her
The earth is our Mother;
we must take care of her
(chorus, repeated after every verse)
Hey yana ho yana hey yan yan
Hey yana ho yana hey yan yan
Her sacred ground we walk upon
with every step we take
Her sacred ground we walk upon/
with every step we take
The sky is our Father;
we must take care of him
The sky is our Father;
we must take care of him
His sacred air we breathe in
with every breath we take
His sacred air we breathe in
with every breath we take
The lakes are our sisters
we must take care of them
The lakes are our sisters
we must take care of them
The trees are our brothers;
we must take care of them
The trees are our brothers;
we must take care of them
The earth is our Mother
We must take care of her
The earth is our Mother
We must take care of her
The earth is our Mother
She will take care of us
The earth is our Mother
She will take care of us
And, most of the time when I need something specific, I write one on the spot.
Wow, I didn't realize that last one got so long. Thank you guys for being patient and reading it....
I chant rarely, I rant often.
When I do chant, than I chant the tibetan mantra "om mani padme om", for self protection and purification of my mind, from the negative influnces wich I might pick up during the interaction with the mainstrem societies.
It is an awesome mantra, and it keeps me extremly well energiesed and centered.
It helps to go even deeper in to the mantra, by lightning up some incence sticks, wich than create that special ritualistic environment, and not only that I am feeling the intense energies attracted by the deep vibrations of the chant, but I am ready to talk with the ghosts in that unique spiritual trans-like state.
This chant has many sides, and it is very potent if applied with honesty.
Not to mention the immense benefits this chant is leaving on ones being, spiritual and bodily.
It is a key language of the universe and beyond.Sound/vibration.
It is why it has the affect it does on us.OM is the same Freq as the earth's mag field and the human heartbeat.Also,the pattern the human voice creates when sounding it,is one of the more sacred patterns.
Never been trained nor did much reading on the proper ways to chant.. just have my own words that I will speak to myself to help center and ground myself when it is necessary.
I have only muttered words that help to center/ground myself when I am in a certain situation that calls for it. Learning the proper chants would be more beneficial to put oneself into that state of mind/being to further intensify the effect.
It is pretty much just getting the frequencies right in your chant ,so that it will put your body in sync to the currents one wants to be in.
Excellent posts and I may try this as I need to center myself more to get rid of negativity in my soul.
whats the point in chanting words ? what does this do. and how does chanting something make you ppl feel better?
I never tried this before but sounds crazy !
Now I do medatate quit often this works to calm stress lol and put the mind at ease!
Essentially, this is meditation with an audible focus to help you get deeper into the meditation easier and more quickly.
Im thinking it is done to get your body vibrating at a frequency that is beneficial.
I will chant when I am extremely stressed and need to relax. The chant I use most regularly is:
From ignorance, lead me to truth;
From darkness, lead me to light;
From death, lead me into immortality.
Which is the english translation of a Hindu mantra I learned a couple of years ago.
I don't chant out loud, but use some of the techniques mentioned here to center and calm. Deep breathing usual helps along with visualizing.
I do this usually prior to meditating....just for the relaxation and focus that it gives me.
For your reading pleasure...

I don't chant outloud but just to myself. I don't really have anything in particular I mostly just meditate on whats bothering me and visualize it disappearing. I alwasy feel better afterwards.
im new at this so chanting during a spell ...would that be appropriate?? does it help strengthen the spell?? if its something i will very much would it help ?
It could depending on how strongly you believe in the spell you are casting while chanting.
When I was a kid I used to do little chants out in the woods behind my house. I kinda just made stuff up has went along. I don't chant now.
i had a frinde sing one to me and it put me into trance state it was the first time i could see energy
I chant at times when I need to chill, and its normally in a humming tone :)
speaking of chanting i like to use old classic rock lyrics
I always liked this one
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
btw before anyone says I know it is from dune, but it remings me of someting my great grandfather used to say, his exact words are lost to me these remind me of them
another question about chanting and spell casting..say two people are chanting to the same spell and strongly believe in the spell....will that just make the spell stronger?
sorry if im asking too many simple questions but im new to this and want to understand alot of things i figured this site has alot of awesome people in it and can learn from everyones knowledge :)
chanting is very calming^_^ thanks for that website tis very helpful^_^
I generally don't have time to do allot of chanting. When I can make it to my Yoga class the general OM Mantra is very relaxing to me.
Has anyone ever heard chanting in, "tongues?" that is just scarey and in particular if you know the person!
