Hi.. I got some new crystals. and i'm kinda new at this wicca thing.. any good ideas on charging crystals??

well, its a personal thing. so what would you like to do?
some people have one for healing, and other for meditation, drawing/attraction, to charge other things with it.......and many other ideas. so what are your thoughts?

one is for energy work the other is for love, relationship,happiness, a personal one.. ones a smokey quartz and the other is rose quartz

Before I charge my crystals I always use sea salt to cleanse my crystals first..

yes this is good, but not all crystals or stones can be cleared this way, because the salt maybe too harsh. So in addition to that fresh running water or in a clear bowl, sage is also good, drumming, singing bowls, tingshas and tuning forks work well.

I always found that sun light and a nice bath does wonders for them.

I see, sorry I missed that. Well, its not hard since crysals want to be used and they like helping people. so simple intent is one way. Reiki could be another, chanting could be another...

I cleanse crystals and stone by using sea salt as well as the full moon before charging them with their intened use.

After cleansing then place the crystal in an earthen bowl, add some wormwood herb and pure filtered water to cover and mix with your finger, then place under the light of the full moon for three nights.

ok i dont have worm wood, and the full moon is almost 2 week away. and i need these crystal immediately so to speak.. i want to start using them now.. so what works in a pinch?

I used to have a thick pristine shard of some kind of crystal. I never knew what kind it was but it had incredible healing qualified. I bought it at a psychic fair in Buffalo, NY years ago. It cracked and stopped working for me. I never had to charge it.

what does the charging of crystals do? Does it make them stronger?

good answers for the most part. Even if they are wrong and incomplete.

Amateur answers like these are of little to no real use.

First of all, crystals are usually projective or passive. Projective crystals may be charged by sun. If you charge a passive stone like rose quartz or amethyst in the sun, you've ruined the stone before you've started.

Read Scott Cunningham's crystal encyclopedia, then you might be ready to work with crystals properly. Quartz crystal (clear) can be charged by sun or moonlight.

As well as know what you are getting into before you begin...As with your "Wiccan" thing. beliefs are not just things to be thrown around. They are very serious practices that require a bit more finesse than you are using.

Since you are new to your "Wiccan" belief, than by all means, by that book already mentioned. Just be sure you know what you are getting into before practicing.

oh. and about the projective/ passive thing. cunningham's book explains it well. think of projective crystals as those that send out energy. excellent for spell work and ritual. passive absorbs and/or transmutes energy, which is good for energy vampires, incidentally.

Sorry - but I do not understand why the crystals must be charged.

Do you need special Crystals for this??

just any crystal.. once bought from a shop where they can be handled often.. when purchased that crystal should be cleansed and then charged with the intent of its use.. so it may work for you, not hinder you

It is good to charge them on moonlight, but clean them before that in the water with salt.

sit mine in salt water for 7 days before new moon after and let charge in window sill till full moon.

I sit my new crystals in salt water a week before the Full moon and then let sit out from one Full moon to another

Leave them out of a full moon, or leave them in saltwater(be carfull not all crytals can take that) ^.^ Enjoy!

If you know how to transfer energy into them they can be charged that way as well. Do check - some crystals need sunlight as opposed to moonlight.

Well,since theyre in part silicon and given other aspects of their nature,I would say it is pretty safe to assume that they can be programmed with vibration.In that case,I might suggest starting with clear intention ,letting it manifest through words or simple visualization while holding the crystal . Do this as many times as needed, until you feel that you have clearly communicated your intention.

The crystals should be cleansed so they are in tune with you and for you and your energy....get rid of the other people that have handled them or where they have sat.

I've used water and sun to cleanse...but will cleanse new ones with the full moon coming up..that is one I have not thought of, thank you!

To clean your crystal, simply wash it in water. If you live near a natural spring or have access to sea water, all the better. If not near the sea, adding salt (especially sea salt) to the cleansing water will add the electrical properties contained in the salt to the cleansing process.

i have read that depending on the crystal you are using that you can charge them in the moonlight for one night. i dont know that that works for all of them just some of them and i cant remember which ones they were. sorry about that. i do know there are books that you can buy about charging them and how crystals work and all that

Good timing,put them under the full moon tonight or tomorro along with anything else you would like to charge or cleanse it works great i charge my tools every full moon/sage is good and black candles are for protection have fun Blessed be!

I charge my crystals by putting them in a clear open container of salt water and set it outside all night under the full moon

I am with all the above ways..but wanted to share this...
I charge my crystals on my altar too...and one not mentionned way is to hold tht crytal to your heart and simple let your pure clean heart energies charge or rinse this crystal...

i usually bury them in salt and use sage to clense them

As much as I know about charging crystals, and that, you can charge them during the full moon, usually one hour of moonlight will do, considering that you need to clean them from all other previously accumulated energies, and that you can do by placing them in to water with salt, for about half hour, and after you have recharged them on the moonlight, you can use them for healing, if you know how to heal with crystals.

I take mugwort and I use the sun. I also hold them in my projective hand to put my energy into them. I have a crystal to inscribe my candle if I intend to do magic...one for protection and one for healing. Crystals are beautiful and they will work.

I used to take my stones, crystals, etc down to a waterfall. I would hold them in my hand then put my hand in the water. It seemed to work. And in the city I would walk to the river and do the same thing. Running natural water....not still water. yuck....lol

cleansing in salt over night during a full moon is the best thing to do first....then charge it with energy as needed for use....it all depends on how you feel it should be charged

The method of cleansing depends upon the type of crystal. It is best not to soak certain crystals, like opal, in water because of their structure. I usually like to cleanse my crystals with sage, or bury them in a potted plant for a day. I feel that this cleanses their energies very well. I use representations of the four elements to cleanse and charge my crystals, like salt, water, and incense.

There are a variety of ways to charge a crystal, which most of the posters already mentioned thoroughly. If you would like to charge a crystal for protection, for example, you can charge it with the rays of the Dark Moon. Another way that I charge crystals is with channelled energy. I sit with the crystal, and I picture energy coming from both the sky and the core of the earth. I then picture this energy being absorbed into my heart, and moving down my arms into the crystal. Afterwards, you can program the crystal by meditating with it and picturing your intent. I've always believed that the crystal chooses you, and it has to want to work with you for your chosen purpose. You'll usually know which crystal wants to work with you. See and research what works best for you and the crystals.

I would charge them with salt, water, a lit candle, and some sage incense. This way you have all four corners and elements represented.

Lightly place the salt and then water on the crystal, then move the crystal over the heat of the candle and through the smoke of the incense.

This and many others mentioned above will work - it all comes down to intent and if you mean it.

Does anyone know, is there a way to measure the charge. How do you know it is fully charged, or can it ?

Electrical storm
This is a very affective technique. Quartz in particular favour this. Place your crystal outside during a thunder and lightening storm. The lightening is due to electricity in the air and will cleanse any negativity and charge crystals. But make sure that you do not place any crystals outside that do not like water. Also be sure that you place them somewhere safe.
This will cleanse and charge your crystals

I charge mine in 2 different ways. First I will rub the crystal between my hands until it is warm. Then I will set them in sunlight for at least a day.

Charging crystals depends on the need really.
If you are going to cleanse it and program it that is different.
If you are cleansing it and wanting to make it's own energy some use sea salt some use sage moonlight or sunlight.
Depends on your intent.
I cleanse everything with actually going to the ocean and doing it in the moonlight. Then I go home and charge it for a day in the sun.
I then bless it for it's intended purpose.
I use my right hand to thank it for doing what I ask it to do and then charge it with the left hand.
To tell when it is fully charge you can feel it in your palm once the vibration is like a pulse you will know if it is rightly charged.

you see yes you choose the crystal but if you went on instinct for the crystal and or you saw and liked it, it choose you not the other way around.
So ask it its purpose and it shall show you a picture in your minds eye and go from there.

I rinse them under running water until they feel light and clean. Then depending on the crystal type put them in direct sun light. Good for clear crystals or for dark milky crystals full moon light. Then when they feel clean and clear sit with them and handle them rub your fingers over them hold them in the palm of your hand and imagine your energy filling them and surrounding them.

Well depending on what type of crystal I am cleansing I use different approuches. or the two that you speak of I would bury in a bowl of sea slat after smudging them. then rince them and place them in a sunny window

Keep it buy you at ALL times never let anyone else hold it, sleep with it, shower with it near you, with in a few days it should be yours.

How to Charge Your Crystal or Pendulum


Carry it with you for 7 days

during the time you sleep, put it under your pillow
during the time you are with others have it hidden
during the time you are alone, have it out

after the 7 days, you shall put it on your altar in front of your pentacle (if on rope make the rope go around the pentacle, not bunched up or lain loosely) with it pointing you but laying down

on the next full moon put it in your window, the one where the full moon shines on the most

after the full moon it is charges with your energies, the energies from your previous workings on your altar and the desires from your sleep all guided by the Goddesses greatness

Since each type of crystal has it's own vibration frequency, you need to determine what source you want to charge each one of them on, otherwise you may drain out all of the power when you think that you are charging them!

i use to carry my stones with me everyewhere for a while , i felt that when id use them theyd be charged ..

One way to get the most from your stones is to also meditate on what you want from them before useing

i would also put them on my bedroom window sill in the light of the moon

ive heared you can put them in your freezer as well, after focusing what you want from your crystals

carry them with you, let them get a feel for your energy, they then become part of you. some can be charged by setting them in the moonlight. depends on the type of crystal though. the best i think is to carry them with you.

i cleansed mine in a salt water bath under the full moon. to charge them i visualiz my energy flowing into them through my fingures.

they are good for grounding when you have too much energy or when you need to cleanse before a ritual...im new as well

your first step should be to cleanse your crystals. then they'll charge from your own energy.

you need to cleanse them frequently anyways to empty thier energy out

Your crystals need to sit out for 24 hours to draw power from the sun and whatever phase the moon is in. Not in direct light of the sun but a window seal. After that the optimum time to charge them is the nights between a new moon and a full moon. Never let anyone else touch them if at all possible.

Or, whether Wicca or not, the easiest method is the following:

Place one crystal in a bowl of water,
sprinkle sea salt in the water,
put the crystal in the bowl of water with sea salt, sprinkle sea salt on crystal sitting at the bottom of the bowl,
let sit for 24 hours either in the sun,
or by the light of the moon.
This purifies the crystal.

Charging the crystal is as follows:

Put crystal in medicine bag, or velvet bag...Any kind of pouch will work just fine. Sleep with it under your pillow, then wear the pouch around your waste.

Once you think it has connected with you, play with it, feel it, palm it in your hands until you feel relaxed and at home with it. This may be your power crystal if the attachment is better than average.

There are many different ways of cleansing crystals. Since yours are already cleansed, all they need is to be charged. There is no correct answer. My belief is that you cover them in fresh water, and place on a window sill or whatever, and let them sit for one full earth rotation, day and night period. They absorb power this way. It has never failed me yet.

I think you can charge crystals by thinking good thoughts and transfer your good energy into the crystals.

first i would cleanse the crystals with salt and water and then purify them with something like sage before charging them.

Mine are placed on a suspension over my bed all night, I make sure the moon comes in and I sleep right under.

So during sleep I use my astral energy to charge them along with the moon's ray.

This way the crystal respond to em and only me, when I wake up they are ready.

i think it is good to not let others touch your personal crystals as their energy can mix together with them
i keep all of my crystals in a pouch placed in a chest for safe keeping.

Well being they are new to you, I would cleanse them first, but it will all depend o what kind of crystals they are. Some can not be cleansed with salt while others can, I would recommend smudging them or placing them in salt ( depending on what kind) and then placing them under a full moon or in the sun light

Making a Crystal Yours

When you first purchase crystals you want to make them yours. You will want to erase or clear from them the vibrations of all those who have handled them -- even those of the nice people at Beyond the Rainbow -- not because those vibrations are bad, but because your crystals, in order to respond to your needs and wishes, must be attuned to your vibrations.

There are times when you don't want a crystal to have your vibrations, either. If you've been working with crystals to heal emotional pain, your crystals may absorb these vibrations. The same can be true if you've been doing a lot of releasing work.

If you've programmed crystals for specific purposes, you'll need to clear them if you want to program them for new goals/dreams.

I read and this could be pure bunk mind you, i heard that you soak them is sea salt water under the moonlight and then put them in the sunlight to soak up the sun.. So it has both moon and sun.. This is just what i read, not my words mind you but someone else.

In water in the moon light on a full moon works with salt in the water

Bury them in a bowl of earth and leave beneath a full moon. if the energy still doesnt feel right leave them in the earth for a full cycle of the moon.

tigezplay -never buried mine b/4. Will have to try that one. But I usually rinse /seasalt & talk to it.

crystals gain power from the person once they have been cleaned well. which means removing any powers they had that are not your own.

Charging a crystal is simple ,everyone does it different .I cleanse it in salt and blessed water then set it out on a window ledge or my porch for the sun and moon to charge it I usually leave it for 3 to 4 days.,Bring it in as place it on my alter say a prayer over it and ask the goddess and god to bless it , then I proceed to use it.

I do the same as the person above I usually do the salt and blessed water I use them for blessings they are full of good energy and in some cases I heard they can be usued to raise a spirit so I want to try to get more information about that...

The way I do it, under the light of a full moon, hold them in both hands and feel the moons power running though you into it. Basic, but it works.

Hold the Crystal in your right hand. Form a tight clench on it and imagine it shining brighter than a crystal ever could. The power of your will shall make it so.

I have heard before that you must run them under water, imagining that they are being cleansed and purified. From there, you shouldn't let other people touch it.

That was just something I heard though.

We have always used "natural water" either freshly fallen rain or snow to cleanse ... or from a running stream, and then charged them either with the sun, or the full moon.

I know of a friend who would only use fresh rain and then charge only during an eclipse.

I believe it is more of a personal choice.

Wash them first. I have read you are to clean them first. You hold them under the facet for about 30 seconds and envision the water going right through them.

Then you can recharge them by holding them in your hand or, you can lay them in the sun, or you can put them in the window during a full moon, where they can get the moon light.

Those are the only ways I have read about. Oh and don't let anyone touch them that you don't admire their energy.

oh and putting your crystal in a bowl of un cooked rice for a few days works well too. and to clense it just wash it in rain water

The way I charged my crystals is mmeditated on thethem and put intent and power into them after cleansing them of course.Then slept with them and carried them with me and have done that for about 7 yrs now.

There are many other ways to charge them on an altar with herbs or other stones or crystals of different vibrations, through moonlight or sunlight, but you should do what feels best to you, because you have to work with this stone, so basically what feels right to you, because there are many different ways to charge them.

Some you can put them into trees that have the energies you desire or flowers or use oils to anoint them, so there are thousands of ways to charge the stones.Best I can say is do what feels right to you and feels most comfortable.

Hold them while you meditate, and focus your energy into them. That's the best way to get your energy into them, or to cleanse them. Make sure your mind is clear, and you are not in a bad mood! Also, make sure you have no distractions.
