Who is your favorite fictional vampire?
This subject has been raised many times in this main forum- but it's been so many years since the last one, it's time to revisit and discuss with new members and old who may have new thoughts since they've last discussed.
Of all the stories that have been told- what fictional vampire stands out to you as a favorite? For me, the last more than a decade leads me back to Mick St. John of the TV series Moonlight as well as Julian from Kindred: The Embraced. Moonlight being a casualty of having been a new show in it's first season when a writer's strike was going on, and Kindred ending due to the untimely death of lead actor Mark Frankel. Without getting the full storylines I hoped to absorb with these shows- I am left to wonder what could have been. I still rewatch them pretty often. Maybe I should tackle them with some fan-fiction.
Tell us which fictional vampires have been your favorites and why!
Vincent Price's Dracula.....To me this man was the perfect vampire because of his voice and looks. It seemed like he never needed any real make up to do the roles.
I have never seen Vincent Price *as* Dracula. Vincent Price's Dracula is a documentary where Vincent narrates. Please let me know of a movie title where Vincent is Dracula himself- I'd like to check that out. I know he was in plenty horror films, but have never seen that.
Vincent Price never played Dracula but he did play a vampire named "Eramus" who narrates three tales of terror to a horror writer played by John Carradine in "The monster club", which was released in 1980.
Vincent Price is the bomb. Absolutely love him. Hail!
Of all the fictional vampires, I have got to choose Angelus/Angel from Buffy. I was in my teens when Buffy was released. So, it really made a huge impact on me. A Vampire, who is doomed to walk this blood-stained earth cursed with the inability to feel a second of pure joy or pleasure.
Basically, a bad-ass vampire with a conscience. I loved the way how the character Angelus/Angel was explored in the hit tv series. I can only hope for the reboot to be exploring this character more fully and with more substance.
Spike is another favourite of mine. He is the more contemporary bad boy Vampire, what with his light blonde hair and to-die-for features. He is witty, snarky and has a microchip in his head.
I cannot wait for the new take on this series!
My favorite vampire would probably be Brother Silus from the film, 'Perfect Creature'.
I like his ability to not abuse the power he has and to work towards the betterment of both species, humans and vampires. He comes across as wise and knowlegeable.
Admittedly, this is not a vampire film that would be for just anyone. I prefer a more plausable reason for vampires to exist, as opposed to the all too boring, "I've been bitten and I drank the blood of said bloodsucker."
I also like the vision of humans and vampires finding a way to co-habitate.
Power and Hotness are contributing factors for my favorite vampire character as well the cathartic experience of seeing a powerful woman not only in supernatural gifts but battle, even though she has poor aim she looks good laying down suppressive fire. I would have to agree with Pam from one of Charlaine Harris's books who says Kate Beckinsale is totally hot when watching "Underworld". So definitely Selene.
I really like Serana from Skyrim, and her whole vampy arc (which is really nostalgic of the Underworld series). I also really like Evangaline from Negima and a few others, like Jean Claude from the Anita Blake books.
I like the mix of elegance, magic, hidden humanity, and the hint of sadness- like perfume in an empty room.
I've also always been a fan of Louis from 'The Vampire Chronicles'. He's always been far more interesting to me than Lestat or anyone else in that series.
Louis is a very interesting vampire character. What if a person, made into a vampire, regrets being made into a vampire? All because, they don't want to take human life. Does the conscience remain? I do hope, at some point, someone explores this more in novel or film form. Hopefully, someone with the skill of Anne Rice.
I love lestat but also say David in lost boys along with Michael I do not know much of history but allot of these vampires are brilliat in the way the think and hunt.
My favorite would have to be armand from thw vampire chronicles. Anne rice is my all time favorite! But the way she portrays armand and how he grows as a "person" through out his book and tid bits through out the other books in the series drew me right in when i first started reading her books.
Don't know if been mentioned yet, but Smiling Jack from Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines
I must say, I do have a love for Jan Valek, from John Carpenter's vampires. I imagine, that if vampires truly existed, this is how they'd actually be.

Alucard from Hellsing. It's an anime/manga. I loved reading the comics when I was a teen. I always loved the artwork that went into it. Along with how serious it could be while being funny at times.
You know... I think batman was a vampire in one universe? I used to read a lot of vampire comics from the library. But Hellsing I owned. Nothing like feeling the pages of a book.
I still have an affinity for Dracula. I remember watching the old 1931, Bela Lugosi version when I was a child. I still love the 1958 version, starring Christopher Lee, as well as the 1979 version, starring Frank Langella.
I have to say that my favorite Dracula film is Bram Stoker's Dracula from 1992, starring Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder.
The vampire genre more or less exists today in its current form because of Lestat. Without Lestat there would be no Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel. Without Angel there would be no Twilight or True Blood.
Sure, vampires pre-date Lestat. But it was Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles that brought vampire lore and storytelling more into the main stream. Interview with the Vampire was published in 1976 and The Vampire Lestat was published in 1985. It was her second book (and Lestat) that captured the imagination of readers and forever changed vampires in modern-day pop culture.
The Lost Boys was released in 1987, after the success of The Vampire Lestat. Queen of the Damned followed shortly thereafter in 1988.
Finally, I can tell you, without Lestat there would be no Vampire Rave.
For me its a tossup, Lestat or Vincent Price they both bring different properties to the vampyr portrayal.
If you are asking Dracula, then Vincent Price, if you are talking Vampyr then its the Wraith.
Damon Salvatore is my favorite. He is very dark, mysterious and sexy!!!

Lestat from queen of the damned
I personally like Matthew from "A Discovery of Witches".
Tarquin from the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles. A close second are Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston from "Only Lovers Left Alive."
The original Barnabas Collins from the daytime serial Dark Shadows
And Adam and Eve from The Only Lovers Left Alive. Such a haunting and beautiful movie.
I can truly say I've loved them all the scary ones, the ugly ones and the pretty ones. Vampires just fascinate me. In literature, I choose Laurell K Hamilton's vampires to enjoy.
Gary Oldman as Coppola's Count Dracula.
I'm also partial to Vampire Hunter D, though I guess he's technically a dhampir.
I don't think it's possible for me to have a favorite. What I love about all the Anne Rice vampires is that she makes them flawed with their own issues. Yes they're powerful but they're pretty neurotic lol
I feel like Lestat did some character flip-flopping so it's difficult for me to choose him as a favorite. I'm not sure what his official deal is.
What I really enjoyed was Louis de Pointe du Lac and his twisting story filled with hypocrisy, grief, and flawed self righteousness. He is a good link between humanity and vampire.
Also, don't come for me, but I'm really a big fan of Blade lol
Anne Rice is to blame for my submission.
Maharet, the martriarch of vampire origination and the overseer of her descendants, was a creature I immediately gravitated to. An elder that preferred to keep to herself and to protect those she considered valuable members of her inner circle. The admiration for her loved ones was admirable.
Though she is more docile and in control than her sister Mekare, I would very much name her as a close second. A Gemini, twins of the same coin yet representing two different personalities and moral behaviors. Together they are simply perfect.
I have always loved Mick St. John of Moonlight. The inner conflicts of whom he is, verses whom he wants to be. I am biased tho, Alex O'Loughlin is from Hawaii and I tend to support the local boys that come from home. But the vampire I had a serious crush on was his friend Josef Kostan. He had a nerdy look with hidden mischievousness. He seemed to always help Mick when it counted. Not to mention being 400 years old never looked so damn good♡
Ahhh the good ole days...how I've missed them...
Barnabas Collins from the Dark Shadows that was first shown in the 60s watched it in reruns when was about 10
Can't forget the original Dracula either which saw the first time when was around 8
I haven't posted to the forums in a long time but, I noticed that no one mentioned Count Orlok from the silent film Nosferatu. Which in my opinion was the best vampire film ever made.
Because the thread said fictitious, I can not include Count Dracula.
Vampires are not real so, any depiction of a vampire is fiction. Count Dracula and Count Orlok are both fictional vampires.
That should be another thread to discuss about Count Dracula, which is a fictional character created by Bram Stoker in his book, but, is an according with real event. I am from Romania and the legend still active and alive.
in all i would have to say Marius was and is my favorite. a stickler for the rules but would break them in a heartbeat to defend his own and loved ones. not a seeker of power yet never the less it comes to him.
