The following was pulled off the inter net. Is it possible paranormal activity?

Derek Valcourt PIKESVILLE, Md. (WJZ) ―
Officers Vickie Warehime and J. Posluszny Jr. have solved a lot of mysteries, but this one is over their heads--literally.
In fact, it may be about 30 to 40 feet in the air.
For months, the Baltimore County Community Outreach officers have been investigating a bizarre phenomenon disturbing neighbors in an area of Pikesville near Beth Tfiloh Community School. Now, they say they may be closer to an answer.
Derek Valcourt reports 911 callers complain about a deafening explosion and a bright flash of light in the middle of night.
"The bedroom actually lights up like day," says Elaine O'Mansky, who lives in the Stevenson Commons condominium building near Beth Tfiloh. "It's instantaneous and wakes us up out of a very deep sleep."
She isn't alone. Barbara Friedman is Homeowner's Association president for the area.
She was up late one night sweeping her back patio when she heard the boom.
"I hit the deck," Friedman explained. "It was so loud, I thought I was being shot. I literally hit the deck."
After she realized she hadn't been shot, she started emailing other homeowners to see if they heard it too.
"Then my email got flooded because hundreds of people were hearing these noises and thought it was their imagination," she said.
The noise was so upsetting, Elaine O'Mansky decided it was time to start keeping track of the phenomenon when it occurred.
From late September until now, she's heard it 25 times, always between midnight and 7 a.m. with no consistent pattern.
Convinced something was wrong, Friedman and O'Mansky contacted police, who were skeptical at first.
"We were a little bit concerned that this was maybe a little bit of an exaggeration," said Sgt. Vickie Warehime. "They were saying they could see (the light) through their window blinds."
Police were concerned that if something really was as loud and as bright as neighbors described, it could potentially be dangerous. So they began to investigate.
Like many of the neighbors in the area, police first guessed that the noise could be coming from a hunter's rifle. But O'Mansky reminded them of the bright flash of light.
So police started investigating whether it was an electrical or gas problem.
Experts with BGE began checking all of the power equipment in the area. They climbed on rooftops of the nearby Beth Tfiloh School and nearby condo building to check all of their electrical equipment and air compressors, but found no evidence of problems. There was no electrical charring, burning or malfunctioning equipment.
A BGE spokesman confirms their investigation found no electrical problems or gas leaks in the area.
Then police decided to take the next step and install two cameras hoping to videotape the boom.
Elaine O'Mansky volunteered to wake up every night around midnight to turn on the camera officers had set up in a fifth floor window of her building.
"It wasn't until we caught it on tape that we realized the magnitude of what they were actually talking about," said Sgt. Warehime. "The sound is almost deafening. You can't describe it. Seeing it on tape without hearing the sound doesn't do it justice."
Videotape taken at 3:34 a.m. on April 23 does show a flash of light that lasts a fraction of a second and lights up an area the size of a football field in the middle of the night.
The flash on the tape is accompanied by loud boom that sounds like a crack of electricity or lightning.
WJZ meteorologist Bernadette Woods analyzed the dates, times and weather conditions when the phenomenon occurs.
"There's nothing coming out of the sky," said Woods, who added that weather likely isn't the primary cause of the flash and boom, but it may be a contributing factor. "The atmospheric conditions could be such that they are supporting the event."
Cameras have videotaped the event on two other occasions. Police have used the shadows cast by the light flash to determine an approximate area where they think the light source may be coming from--30 to 40 feet in the air in the parking lot between the Beth Tfiloh Community School and the Stevenson Commons condominiums building.
Officer Posluszny has already repositioned two cameras several times hoping to see the source of the boom and flash.
"So when we get it again, and we will get it again, we should be able to narrow down where it's starting," said Posluszny. "I will not retire until I find out what this is."
Police say they've consulted with many experts and they're running out of options.
"Everything we can rule out, we are ruling out, and we're almost at a loss right now," said Warehime. "We need some help."
"Whatever it is there's a scientific explanation," said Johns Hopkins University Physicist Dr. Peter Armitage, who reviewed the video tape evidence and went to the neighborhood where it's happening to see if he could find any possible causes.
Armitage says more evidence is needed before he can form a scientific conclusion.
"Right now it's hard to say the phenomenon is definitely occurring though," said Armitage. "It's not some people with creative imaginations that's for sure. When there's repeated eyewitnesses, and then there's something on tape like this, you really have to pay attention."
For now, neighbors like Bonnie Friedman and Elaine O'Mansky say their quality of life depends on whether this mystery is solved.
"We would like it to stop," said O'Mansky. "You go to sleep at night just wondering in the back of your mind, 'Is it going to happen again?"
Friedman agrees. "We even said maybe it's aliens. We're at the point where we'll listen to anyone's theory. We just need to stop it because my homeowners need to sleep."
Police say they will release more information about the case Tuesday afternoon.
A crafty write, or a good effect. Dry ice Bombs have matured so have flash effects. side shows use them to pop the line or light the starting area.
i probly got something
maybe they have to much electric traveling through that one area. and then it makes an explosion because of to much pressure build up at that certain time.
or
it could be a center of something beginning happen with that earth and all just might be where one of the gates off hell will open at the supposed 2012 theory.
other then that i dont know.
*laughing* Well, ONE thing seems to be true... One of these cops will NOT be retiring any time soon!
I don't know what to say right now. It seems that there was some kind of activity going thats for sure
Activity that entertains. is good activity in my book.
i dont know if its paranormal or not. Would be interesting to see what it really is
its a really cool story but im not sure that i believe it....
I would like to witness it though. sounds like a good prop effect. The motive behind it would be fun to investigate as well.
*taps chin with finger* I'm wondering if the USAF has a base nearby. I'd like to see footage, myself.
Yep, the cops will still be frequenting Dunkin D still, so no worries there.
This is a very odd thing. I would like to know what they come up with.
How stranged, and they figured it couldn't have anything to do with electrical things either...Bizarre.
The only thing that immediately sprung to mind for me was the cause of thunder - heat causing air to contrast rapidly enough to make a loud boom. I wonder if such energy pockets could be responsible.
it does sound very strange. maybe someone is doing it.
It is a very odd thing. I am open to any of the possibilites it may be. Paranormal activity is definately one of the possibilities but there could be a scientific explantaion as well. I'd like to see footage for myself. It sounds like a strange phenomenon either way and would be interesting to see and/or hear.
Well, temporal nexus's like this happen on occasion, but to cause such a sonic boom is a differant factor all together. At times, the ethereal shifts within the leylines do cause thunder cracks...But I would not be certain until I saw the actual footage or phenomenon with my own eyes.
I would have to see footage of this with my own eyes, not just some written eyewitness account of the phenomenon.
But to hazard a guess well who knows.. moth man lmao... or a thunderbird :D
This discussion is some interesting information!! I totally believe in Paranormal Activity, it is bomb... until you get an unwanted orb
well it sounds like it could be anything .. I also would like to actually see or experience it myself before saying if I totally believe it yet as they said with so many eyewitnesses it is hard NOT to believe it actually happens LOL sooo.. it could be as one person said electrical happenings, or my 1 question is have they investigated the history of the land as to if there was anything or any one who died on the lad or any kind of death etc, to see if maybe that could be the reason... I mean anything is possible.
is there an air force base nearby? are they trying out new technology under the "cloak" of darkness?
doesn't seem to make sense. maybe it's a buildup of electricity.
I would also study the report call in the area around the start of the occurence, had the person that called to report the activity, or event been a frequent caller. Sometimes a person seeking attention will call law enforcement for attention, they report an event, after a while the cries of wolf are admonished, One elder lady flooded paranormal research offices with calls about various sightings. yet each time genral questions to neighboors, who knew the woman to be a snoop busy body, assured that they saw nothing. Human behavioral quirks account for a fraction of phenomena claims . followed by promotional hoaxes.
A story is just story with out being able to get out to investigate it. Could it be paranormal, anything could be but i always look for the logical reason first. As long as it can be explained by any normal matter it is not paranormal in my book.
What she said ^
But its true, it could be anything. Effects have matured quite a bit, so it quite possibly be someone having fun. You'd need SOLID evidence to figure out whether or not its paranormal.
even if it is a hoax it can still be paranormal behavior, until the motive is found behind the creation of the effect. Something donebeyond human behavior is just as astonding to me as the claim of what an event is. like why people create elabirate ufo hoaxes. What reasoning do they use. In my experiance I know why houses are haunted. yet I suspect that the motive is simular in Ufo hoax and ghost effects.
There are no consants to the story. most paranormal activity like that will have a set pattern not randomly between a huge time gap.
Four fishy
(sorry, I could not resist...)
But it is true. The story is a bit out there for me to put merit into it.
Maybe the Government is doing some experiments nearby, wouldn't surprise me......
Wouldn't shock me to find out it was the government. It could be paranormal; there just isn't enough information to definitively say what it could be. It would be interesting to know how much effort the police put into making sure the neighborhood was not intentionally causing/doing it. There have been times when people have created their on hoax for certain reason, to gain something, attention, etc.
Or to teach a Busy Body Hyper alert neihboor a prank
lesson.
I have lost that term the fad of it is just so beat like horse meat. Para Behavior or Entusiasticism. like a warehouse filled with crying statues.
I would have to agree with CryingDutchess and pandorasbx. You have to rule out possible government involvement before going to the supernatural.
I knew it was govn' ment' they is all ways doin' thos' speer' mints' ... an' they usin them probes in aweful places as well'
It seems like there are too many what ifs in the situation. Could it be aliens creating a loud blast with a bright light for no particular reason? Could it be kids with dry ice? If they have the area well scoped with camera's then something should be able to come of the recordings. Even with the recordings though, it is not hard to believe that there might be a natural occurance that we have yet to understand happening.
Flas bang granades under a plastic a clear plastic barrel ... that will get a bigger flash bang then usual.
Hmm now why does the Black Helicopter Theory keep springing to my mind?
Sorry just a thought I'm always thinking out loud :P
Its because the government is behind the it. They want us to think we are crazy for hearing and seeing things that are not neccessarily there. For all the naysayers... its not the US government its the world order governing council lol
The Shadow Government is trying to keep this appearing as if she is crazy.. somebody call Art Bell...
I am not enitrely sure this is paranormal activity. It could be but there are a lot of physical things that could cause the same things.
It could be a street race. they pop up around towns and set up and do two races from each point the meet at. The cops or deputies usually turn a blind I to it or are never there in time to see any evidence.
There is a video of this phenomenon on this site, http://wjz.com/local/baltimore.county.mystery.2.710503.html
I highly doubt that this is paranormal activity. It might seem that it is but you can never be too sure unless you see what happened with your own eyes.
I heard a story once about when teh military was still testing the stealth fighter. The plane went over a military base. Since they did not know what this plane was and also since it was on teh radar and then disappeared from radar they commenced to launch a attack on the plane. It was not until this point that the few in the military that knew about this plane had to then inform this base that it was a top secret plane in testing.
If the military cant tell thier own what are they hiding from us
It looks and sounds like someone got a hold of a batch of flash band grenades and are having some fun.
Hmmm, that is a weird phenomenon. Perhaps they should try an infrared camera or something else to try and get a different look at the occurrence.
I believe that it could be...or at least partially anyway. I mean, it really depends on how the person describes it...if it's being described exactly as they see it in the moment to really know.
It is probably something easy to explain that everyone is over looking the stories people tell to each other might create it happening as well. Just like when some one accuses someone and their picture is splashed over all the new reports and other people come forward to say that they new it was him. THen the cops or science proves them all wrong.
Well I live in Baltimore, MD It was quite a story for us around here since nothing but murders goes on arroundhere I know a few fokes in Pikesville it's actually pretty nice there I'd volunteer to go to the source and go boom jsut to see what the hell it is I mean something must be done about it perhaps take a plane over top or a choper with in the area I wanna see the tape also what abotu takeing a robot in there with a camera to see what the hell it really is... I mean why does it only happen at night between midnight and 7 and nothing happends during the day quite an interesting thing if u ask me something I'd have a feild day with...
it could be where a bomb went off some time ago nd maybe when they built the school it pissed off one of the victims or it could be some teenagers playing a prank and sending a stick of c4 into the sky with a firework cannon i'd need to see the video to figure it out if they release tht i can probably tell the cause if it's c4 then there will be a very slight light from the fuse if it's a paranormal activity there will be a slight sound of a whistle from a dropping bomb or missile or it could be the government testing weapons in a area they believe is uninhabited because they don't bother to look on tht 500million dollar satellite they sent up to see they just go by gps coordinates to send the bomb to nd if this is the case eventually tht school will be going bye bye if someone doesnt speak to them about it they should call the fbi nd have them check it out shortly there after it might or might not stop if it does then it was just the government screwing up again....
I smell an impending cover up by government forces :)
I'd think it's a hoax until proven otherwise.
i beleave their is paranormal out their because i seen it
well, it could be paranormal activity. there's no way for me to know for sure but from the descriptions it sure sounds that way.
Interesting but....Impossible.
Why would something such as this occur so frequently without any obvious explanation?
Ooooooooo, maybe its something to do with time loops?
Great, now you got me buying into that crap >.<
it could be true but you never know these days anything is possible
It sounds like an electircal distcharge, a build up of static electicity in a large amount that suddenly like a capacator reacts, it is happening in a general time of the night which would leave one to beilve that is when the capacitor reaches it limit and pops. The need to study the soil makeup in that area as well as the material makeup of the surrounding buildings to see if these contirubute to the reation taking place in the area. Also electrical lines running through the area could be causing a megnetic feild in the area where the energy is dispursed. Electricity is a curious thing, especially when its static electricity building up.
It sounds like something from an X-files episode. It was something about a spaceship that hovered over a small town where there was a huge blinding flash of ligt followed by a deafening boom.
I doubt it is paranormal activity and I do not buy the spaceship theory either. I think the idea with the dry ice seems a lot more plausible.
But I have not witnessed it first hand so it is impossible for me to say.
Interesting...if it is true then I hope they figure it out soon.
It sounds like the event stopped after serrious investigation started... makes me think it was a prank.
Lots of simple ways to do it that wouldn't need complex planning... like a crop circle...
I'll bet you'll see the incident reocuring elsewhere.
A hydrogen ballon or a kite made of flash paper... something like that.
Flash paper does not make a booming sound. It just burns rapidly. I use it fairly often.
it could have been paranormal but even if it was, investigating it wouldn't prove it's paranormal credibility because the paranormal is seldom able to be examined.
I reckon it's a hoax... There will be a reasonable explaination for it.
I was discussing it with a freind who stated a well build explosive could be launched into the air causing this type of light and sound, detecting its origin would be very difficult after dark,
sounds like pyrotechnics to me. do they not have fireworks in that part of the country? of course, some wag from the air base might have pinched a few thunderflashes for a joke.
i think its the federal government duing exercises under darkness
that is defenatly very interesting .i wouldnt even beguine to know what would cause that. if that was happening in my area i would defenatly want an answer to it thats forsure...
i dont know but the video is quite interesting. somebody could mix a few household chemicals to make the loud boom. but the flash would be something differnt. i think its some kids playing a prank
Sound very much someobody has a spook with a sense of humour*grins8
yes they sound like they do have a spook but it would be pretty freaky
it could of been one of those supersonic jets the miltary has
And what came of this? I need to go look this up. It reminds me of another town I saw on TV that has fires just start up on their own in people's homes. They just start! They can't find a cause. I believe it's Italy.
My first thought was that it's someone playing silly buggers with a flare gun, but the light would probably last longer than that.
I don't really know what it is, but I don't think it's got a paranormal explanation. Something about it, to me, screams 'military'...
I hope so! We can use a little paranormal excitement in this world... who knows though... people love to make things up! We get tons of flying saucer calls here in Florida... possibley because every nut in the world vacations here - they're all hopped up on Mickey Mouse and sunscreen - hehe
great story.. but I think it isn't.
I looks like it, but I don't think it is a paranormal activitiy.
I don't reall know, it could be real, but that is a little too much for paranormal
i heard that it was a drug dealer who was pissed off at a neighbor and set off a certain type of firework every once in a while to get even.
not sure but it seems that he turned himself in, thats what i was told.
Indeed it does seem a bit too .. loop-hole-y to be true.

Well it does seem out especially with the boom, there are a lot of air force bases down that way Maryland is pretty small and with Virginia and DC right there it is a good possibility it govermental.
If it were paranormal, it would have to be more that one entity, and I really don't believe that entities work together...My other thought would have to be alien activity, they most likely are much more advanced than we are. The area they are "booming" may have some special "power" or "symbolism" to them. Thats all I can make out of this. Very interesting though. I would like to know what the actual cause is.
More than likely like said above probably someone who's gotten ahold of some pyro effects...
Interesting thought though to go with the alien theory and watching shows like Star Trek, Buck Rogers, etc...
A possible gateway being pass or worm hole something of that nature.....In the series they usually show them flaring up and such
just to clear things up:
the mystery has been solved and the source is not paranormal.
I read the page you posted about . Thanks for that information. Maybe this guy will get the help he needs.
dont know if its real or not but it does seem cool to read about and see where it goes and what the truth is
ahem. case closed. mystery solved.
could someone close this thread, i mean it turns out some guy was setting off firworks from his balcony just to anger his neighbors.
wow just goes to show how stupid people really are-setting of fireworks in the middle of the night
