Though I don't think it will effect the site much...here is what was found on Newsday.com and what I heard on News12LI. Its from Long Island, NY.

Coram man charged in Internet child sex sting
BY CHRISTINE ARMARIO
Newsday Staff Writer
April 28, 2006
A Sayville man who police said showed up at a Coram cemetery Wednesday night expecting to have sex with a 13-year-old girl he met on a "vampire freaks" Web site instead found Suffolk detectives who arrested him for the attempted act.
Eric S. Fischer, 23, was arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday on charges of attempting to disseminate indecent material to a minor, endangering a child's welfare and engaging in a criminal sex act.
It wasn't Fischer's first attempt to lure a girl for sex on the www.vampirefreaks.com Web site, police said.
Commissioner Richard Dormer said Fischer was arrested in March on rape charges after a 16-year-old told her friend she had met a man on the site and had sex with him. The friend then told her mother, who called Fifth Squad police. The police then arrested Fischer on rape and criminal sex act charges, Dormer said.
Police are investigating whether Fischer was involved in another teen rape and say the probe could grow larger -- with about two dozen names from across the metropolitan region found on his computer.
Vampirefreaks.com is also the site where a 23-year-old man met a 12-year-old girl with whom he allegedly joined in killing of the girl's parents and younger brother in Alberta, Canada, this past weekend, according to reports.
"Parents in the community, parents in Suffolk, be aware of the Web sites your kids go on every day," Dormer said. "They're dangerous."
A message left at Fischer's house was not immediately returned.
Detectives from the computer crimes unit created an online profile of a 13-year-old girl Wednesday afternoon, police said, and were soon approached by Fischer, using the screen name "xxmoonmelodyxx."
On the Web site, Fischer had posted his own profile and said he was 19 years old. It wasn't long before he engaged the "girl" in a sexually explicit conversation and offered to have sex, police said. Detectives suggested that they meet at the cemetery, to which he responded, "Cool."
And here is the link from News12.com (there is a pic on that site).
Sayville man accused of arranging to meet teen for sex in cemetery
(04/27/06) YAPHANK - Police arrested a 23-year-old Sayville man Thursday who they say traveled to a Coram cemetery to have sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Investigators say Eric Fischer met an undercover cop posing as a teen on the Web site VampireFreaks.com Wednesday. According to authorities, he then made arrangements to meet her at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Route 112 to have sex.
Police say Fischer was arrested a month ago for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl he met on the same Web site and is under investigation for the rape of another 16-year-old. Fischer has been released on $10,000 bail.
I'm not trying to sound mean or offend anyone, but I really think there should be an age limit on here. What do you think?
holy hell...I'm on that site, but I don't talk to ANYONE unless I know them in person...that is fucked up seriously...

Aside from making this a paid 'members only' site, it would be nearly impossible to enforce. The best thing would be for parents to pay attention to what going on in thier kids lives.
How easy is it to open a scroll box and select a year in which you were supposedly born?
It would be, like Sebastion said, impossible.
i have never liked vampire freaks, it seams very just chat based, all about 'getting some'
But still the media is trying to make the site look guilty its the person not the site were they meet that should recieve the blame. How many people are on this site and others like it that come her for honest reasons. There are sickos everywhere I just get tired of the media trying to place blame.
i was on that site actually.. and i have a very low opinion about it actually... i deleted my account soon in fact
yes indeed sounds like they are trying to shift the blame to the site and not the persons who did this crime instead hmmm
it is not vampirefreaks fault it is all down to perv who did it
I agree with Khay...I did not post this to have a discussion on age restiction, or to blast another site. Just to bring this to everyones attention, as a problem that everyone needs to address and be aware of.
the admins of that site are not vigalnt like of others sites..i knows its unfair that the site gets all bombed.. but the fact is that the admins on vampire freaks rarely do anyhing about things..i had probelms in that site of people seding me explicit sexually harassing content.. on any other site when ppl like this are reported action is taken... only on vampire freaks no action was taken..i had to deleted the profile...
giving msn is not safe on any site..i know... i just stated my impression about that site actually...

As we know- probably the TOP place this has happened time and again has been on AOL. America Online, they are not going anywhere.
Of course it is the people and not the site. The Criminal Justice system knows this. The media does place blame where it isn't due, but we are in no danger as an online community in my opinion.
Where ever people gather, there will be those who are shady characters. It all boils down to parental supervision and what parents are teaching their kids. None of these Administrations are responsible for the rearing of children.
Regardless if there was an age limit to join......members that would be below the age limit can tweak the age and say they are older than they are. So that wouldn't work. B/c they'll still join as long as they can figure out ok it's 2006 and i'm 13...who do i make it look like i'm 18+? So yeah u don't need a brain cell to figure that out.
Then again w/ the whole paying for the profile wouldn't all work. There's a reason why you can have a free membership or a Prem. Membership. And if we ended up paying for the membership......there's still the option that we could still send in a check or money order if members who don't pay by Credit Card. And if they are below the age i'm sure they can come up w/ the money for a 6 mon. or a year membership by getting a money order.
And further more....regardless of where this guy met this 13 yr old........it's on every website similar to this or along the lines like this site, chatrooms, instant messages, etc. So it's not like one particular site should be targeted. I mean it's easy to go on to myspace, vampire freaks, etc. and do the same thing that this guy did. *shrugs* anyway
i have notived also that with makeup.. espcially girls.. they can make themselves look older.. thus sometimes yes its diffcult for someone browsing around to realise at first hand.. its only when you tlak to them that you actually realise that they are young...
The key here is, watch what your kids are doing.
And all you pervert freaks, leave the kids alone damnit - it just might be Dateline, and then your ugly mug will be plastered all over national television for us to laugh at.
You are quite right Rowiel... It s an issue that sadly but truly will continue on.... But in that dudes case, he knew that the girl was supposed to be 13yrs. old and still came out to meet her whiich makes him a sick f-ck!!! It's a good thing that they caught him before "someone" else did!!! Excellent post.
The media is going to write about whatever sensation or combo of sensations will sell papers or attract viewers. The media is not out to protect your best interests. Remember that while you watch tv. myspace is a far larger threat simply because of its size, but 'myspace' doesn't sound as threatening as 'vampirefreaks'. There are sexual predators everywhere. 1 out of every 5 college age women report being forced to have sexual intercourse. 78% of women raped or physically assaulted since they turned 18 were assaulted by a current or former husband, live-in partner or date. 17% were victimized by an acquaintance, 9% by a relative other than a husband and only 14% were assaulted by a stranger. 6 out of 10 sexual assaults occur in the home of the victim or the home of a friend, neighbor or relative. (National Violence Against Women Survey, 1998)
thanks Sekment, in fact yes.. such people are sick indeed.. they are still kids... kids now a days seem to grow up so fast *sigh* and thus people like this pervert tend to try to abuse of this.. girls like this are defenceless after all...
i agree. we have to keep in mind that kids might missunderstood this database as a howto
I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that the topic of age restriction has been brought up before as I am somewhat new and have not viewed all of the posts. I suppose you are right in saying that it is impossible to enforce. I just hate that there are some people out there who are sick in the head and think they have to victimize children or people in general! :::sigh::: In the future I will try not to discuss topics that have been discussed. :o)
We need to keep -everything- in perspective here.
And yes, I figured it was that site.
The mention of the Goth scene or Goth sites in news stories on criminal cases is nothing new. Bad press is a hallmark of the underground and should be expected. There are, of course, some key points that should be remembered when this kind of press swings blame in the direction of an underground scene or internet site:
First - any sick fuck who seeks to engage in child molestation or other violent criminal activity involving kids should be caught and I'd imagine that no-one here has any problem with that.
Second - an internet based society is like any society in that there is no guarantee against sexual predators and or the mentally unstable. The fact that these types of people have used and abused the goth scene or a vampire site should be no less surprising that the knowledge that every city has these types of people.
I was practically brought up by the internet as I had a single mom who worked overnights - I stayed up late with only the comforting glow of my monitor to keep me company with the dual then omg- multinode BBSs to make friends, etc...
It all boils down to how much trust and education and time a parent takes with their child to do their best to ensure their safety.
That's the mistake that people do.
Instead of concentrating on the criminal they concentrate on the site and age limits.
Prevention from this happening:
If you are a parent and have your kids who use the internet,be sure what they're doing.Don't ruin their privacy tough, just get interested in what they're doing. But not like an inspector, like a friend,it helps more that way.
no matter the site, no matter the time, no matter the restriction placed, there will always be people like that to try to get around and hurt people, girls and boys alike, there are always predators. While I dont really worry much about it, we all know it happens, its the kids that agree to go along with it because of the mind tricks of some of these pervs, not the site, only the people involved. It happens, it has happened often, it will continue happening. We just need to be careful who we're dealing with...or at least teach kids at younger ages about it with better lessons than, "dont do it" that line makes kids be more incline to see what happens, I think we need to scare em into never even thinking about it...show em irl what happens to people that meet, show em the body of a little girl that found "the perfect man online", the story of the boy that they never found because he agreed to meet his "lover online" irl, real things that will scare em into never wanting to go outa the house...but thats just my thoughts...
It's not the internet that is bad,but the way certain people use it.
When I was a teen predators used to come in front of the school.
Nowadays cause we're in the 21st century and kids know how to use the net and are most peolly use it more than adults, the predator uses it as a way for his crimes.
Again it's not the internet that is bad but the way certain people use it.
And even on sites where it is written: don't enter here if you are less than... years old.
Would they really care?
Just watch out what your kids or sisters, brothers, whatever are doing.
stop woth the fucking age limit people! there are lots of case about 23, 24 year olds getting killed by online predators, you all just think its kids? just young people? no its you too! so stop with the age limit, its not going to change
Yeah anyone can be fooled and the topic wasn't about age limit....
I called it "Another Warning for the site" since there was already a thread on this topic. It is a way for people to see what the thread was. Just to let you know.
It's not the sites..its the sickos out there..Media also hypes it up to sell..So keep all this in mind.
good to know. i'm on that website also, but i dont think i've talked to anyone there
Wow VF are getting some really bad publicity! Its got to have an effect on the site regardless of internet freedoms, and here a question if VR was as well known as VF or Myspace could it have been this sites name in the papers instead???
this is a very explicit topic as there are many aspects to think of...
first of all you have to see that the older guy has commited a crime as is forbidden to have or to try sexual intercouse with someone below the age of sixteen if you are older then sixteen. no matter if the child consents or not it is forbidden. that means that this guy is guilty. the problem with it is now the reputation of goths.. the ppl will think that all goths or ppl who like vampires or are vampires are peadophils and that is a big problem.
the cases of gothic and vampiric ppl commiting such crimes and other cruel crimes increases and most of the time the ppl met on internetsites like the one in the certain case or the one we use here (not accusing anyone) this might be the root of prejudices and the government might take action although it is stupid to do so.
the other side of the problem is the fictional child. its good luck that it was a policeman and not a real girl who met this guy at the graveyard. sexual intercourse with children increases and its a big problem. parents should take more care of their children and even the kids on here should be taken care of.
the situation gets really bad and i suggest that the admins should send every member below the age of 16 a ten point list with things they shouldnt do. it might help and it will be counted as a serious efforts to protect children.
Oh yes the reputation for those in the gothic/vampiric life style, that is going to be judged as well.
Even tough a criminal can be of any scene and probabbly, the predators aren't even interested in that life style they just searched for a way to get their predators.
But who can explain this to the narrow minded?
It comes down to being aware of the envrionment and the community to which one belongs. Not that everyone should talk to eachother, but on a site like this, there should be enough social interactions going on, that perverts like would not be able to get what they are looking for. Not to mention that even though the vampire communities that exist online, are not all, worth being apart of, its still a matter of if they are given an in, the predatory nature, of twisted souls, will continue to use our culture as a scape-goat, because they lack their own consepts of "no matter who or what you are, its not acceptable to do those sorts of things"...I digress before i offend anyone.
Genuine Blood and Deathnite: I wouldn't really worry too much about the reputation of the Goth scene. It's always been referenced with it's 'death obsession' and it's 'depressing nature'. This is neither the first case nor the last wherein Goth will get a bad rep based on the actions of someone who very likely, was totally unassociated with the actual 'scene' of vampires or goths.
From shootings, to patricide cases, to sexual predator cases to 'satanic ritual violence' cases, the goth scene always gets pulled in because mainstream society can't possibly cope with the idea that their kids have an interest in something besides being popular. An underground scene by definition doesn't fit into mainstream culture. If one truely feels at home amongst the freaks and the punks of this subculture, one may as well get used to the slings and arrows of the mainstream culture. You needn't worry that the scene will somehow be stopped. Subcultures don't follow rules like that.
Personally, when my six year old is online, I am right beside him. I don't leave his side for a minute. The computer is in my room, so he can't sneak on when I'm not looking.
I had the ability to sit late at night and fall asleep to the hum of a computer, I met some very lovely people from it. One in which turned out to be the biggest love of my life. I also met some pretty sick people.
I think if parents paid more attention to what their kids were doing, these acts wouldn't stop completely, but would cut down drastically.
I'm sorry, but I really DO NOT think this is an "age" thing- it's more of a "common sense//issues" thing.
I knew better than to meet people off of ANY website when I was...8. I still knew that at 12, & I don't even do it now!
I knew how to say the word "NO" at age 4. No, I don't want to meet you in person. No, I don't want to have sex. No, I do not want to kill my parents, thank you.
SEE HOW EASY THAT IS?
Use the ignore button. Use the block or ignore features that come with most internet browsers. Don't talk to strangers.
We don't have to be 20 to know these things. We don't even have to be 12. We do need to employ common sense, and we do need parents who do not use computers as baby-sitters.
**steps off soapbox.**
Thank you for reading.
dont talk to strangers? whats the point of chat sites if your not supposed to talk to strangers? that WHY there are chat sites, to make it safe for people to do just that, even though, like you said, its the people that either lack common sense or have not been told or are desperate or there are many other reasons people meet others online...my cousin met her fiance online, i joked with her about it being a 90 year old but she took me and three of her friends and my sister with her to meet him...he turned out to be who he said, but we were there just in case...its common sense, you dont do it normally, the net is no different other than you cant see who your talking to.
people are so stupid, dont go meet people you met online.
I met my best friend online, granted it took a little while for me to get to know her, and I was very careful about what information I gave etc etc. But we've been best friends for almost seven years now! I guess it does all come down to common sense.
Sabastion sums it well.
Add to that:-
Educating the younglings as to do's and do not's with personal details and meetings.
Plus:-
Constant Warning post of dangers and threads like this.
and Slogans such as:-
~ STRANGER DANGER ~
omg teh internet is crashing down!!!one
Online predators have been on the net for a long time. They will never go away. There is so much a website can do, it's up to the parents.
Also, it sounds bad to say but the main problem with this is that the kids WANT to meet these adults. Teens of today LIVE online. Myspace, photobucket, deviantart, youtube, etc. They're either cutting themselves because they had to do yardwork this weekend or they're cybering with 5 people each night. I know that not all teens like that, but the ones that are are the ones that cause this problem.
one thing everyone forgets about online predators.....without the internet..they would still most likely be predators....
so the fact that they are now online is relatively useless....
predators will be predators whether online....or standing outside your local park
the warning I gave and I think this one from phoenix is not that it is occurring on this site...but just a heads up that with numerous cases of this nature in the news right now it might be a good idea to do one of two things....either be less vocal about the lifestyle if you are not a forward person....or if you are very upfront....DO NOT simply insult or yell at ppl who might question you about the lifestyle....this just causes more strife..which is the last thing we all need, if you feel a need to inform someone about the lifestyle...do it politely, intelligently, and with respect....and if they get rude...simply stop talking to them...for at that point they have already decided not to hear your words anyways...so don't waste the air on fools.
thats was the point of my warning...
one thing that has me bothered tho is they are still pushing the goth site angle...even tho numerous people have now been quoted saying they DID NOT meet at Vampirefreaks..they just both had profiles there..they met at a punk concert...so this shows that the media is actively trying to incite outrage against the vampire/goth lifestyle
i can agree with all of you so consider this youngling forewarned
The occult will never be viewed favorably by the mainstream. In a christian dominated country, it just isn't going to happen. The stereotypes aren't going to help any, but that is the way life is unfortunately. The administration of this site is however a great deal more effective, and that sort of thing I'm happy to say would get clamped down on and quickly.
Ahh....tis a thing that will never die. Things go wrong, and there are those who invite such things, by their actions....mayhaps this shitstorm will pass intime for the next. Until open war obliterates all the "normal" people then we are doomed to being cast in a dark light, we should not be, however we should be in a dark light, but ya know....hahaha (maniacal laughter)
the lifestyle? are we talking about young boy love?
this really has nothing to do with this site, with anything pertaining to the 'gothic' subject. The one about killing a girl's family could probably be blamed for the site, however. Idiots who like to play pretend will flock towards sites that are in the nature of vampirism or the occult. Doesn't mean it's the site's fault.
Anyway, 'predators' can be found anywhere. Everyone knows this. The parents need to tell their children to go to bed and not stay up on the internet all night.
I'm 22 and I've been hit on by dozens of teenies over the years. The kids know what they're doing, it's the same with getting drunk and getting high. The pareents need to curb their children from this stuff.
yes..theres another point....worrying about the poor misguided innocent...
I knew full well what sex was at 12....
I also knew full well the difference between right and wrong.....
So I don't buy into the she was innocent crap
oh and my last post was refferring to the murders..not the guy arrested on luring a minor
There is a drastically misguided idea of what vampirism means or what the life entails. A great number of imitations are made in the spirit of aligning oneself with that which one desires to become. The young ones especially are donning the gothic clothing and flocking to those sites indeed, thinking what they find to be what is not realizing that to be far from the case. Those of us a bit older know to read and scrutinize and be patient.
I see a great deal of children trying to be older, embrace what they think as vampirism, and accomplish similar goals without really understanding any of it. Being a vampire is not a cool fashion statement, and it's disrespectful to see kids treating it that way.
I 'm on there too, for 2 years. there is always somethign going on.
thats really insane.
okay, I dont care its not the sites fault...this shit happens where ever..they blame video games for violence and Music for subliminal messages and now internet for rapings...yeah its dangerous place i guess but these girls should know better then to go out and met someone they dont know....i was on the site...didnt have anyone on my friends list that i didnt know...there is a such word as no....and ignoring that person..
basicaly parents should know what their kids are up to and be involved in their lives. then things like this would happen as often as they do.
Yes, but you also have to realize it is not all of the perverts' faults, it is also very much so partially the parents'. I completely agree with Dearmon, kids know about things like sex at an early age from sources not known to parents. Whether it be the twisted brother of a friend or a person off the street... OR a sick and twisted teacher (we all know that happens). You just can't prevent it. The best bet is to prepare for it in any way possible. What genuineblood said about sending a list is also partially true, except do you really think kids listen? It is not the Dominars' job to raise the kids, it's their parents'. They should be the ones getting through to their children and letting them know what they shouldn't do, but also, even more important WHY not to do it. The problem these days with parents is that they tell their kids not to do something, but they don't tell them why, so not knowing the kids just go and do it anyway. What the media is trying to send accross these days is "oh, these sites are so bad. shelter your kids, dont let them see the real world, only teach them of the things that are good and then once they're 18 kick them out and let them figgure it all out on their own." Well, that's great parenting advice. Don't you see? If children don't know why something is bad, they won't believe that it is until it happens. I don't think that it is fair to the children to have to make them find out on their own, because most of the time it is the wrong way and then it is too late to teach them the right way. This is why I said that the parents need to be the ones letting their kids know about what is good and bad, before someone else gets there and explains it differently.
Another issue today, that wasn't really discussed in this post, is that it is so easy for criminals to get away now. I swear, they find a different mental disorder for every criminal every day and blame it on that. Well, the way I see it is that they knew what they were doing, they did it intentionally, and there is no excuse for it just like there is not way to reverse the crime. Did anyone notice how nowadays it is just so easy for them. All they do is hire a psychiatrist and have him diagnose them with a mental disorder and bam, the sentese is halfed. I think that's messed up.
I don't know if any of you read seventeen magazine, probably not because most of it is just annoying, but in the recent issue there were a couple of true live stories that were just disturbing. One of them was about a mother, who was involved in the community and seemed normal, who also gave drugs (methamphetamine to be exact) and alcohol to her teenage daughter and her daughter's multiple (guy)friends. She would always try to fit in with them and even flirt with them. And then when the boys were passed out on the floor, from either drinking too much or having done too much drugs, she would pull their clothes off and rape them. Later when this all came out and a court was held, the mother hired a psychiatrist who diagnosed her with bipolar disorder and told her to write an appeal to shorten her sentese of 30yrs. In the end she felt like the victim because of her "mental illness" but the boys' families didn't think so.
After that there were a couple of stories under headline "hookups gone bad" or something of that sort. This is where I was just amazed at how sick-minded people can be, and it's not talking about adults either. There were a few stories but the one that was most disturbing to me was the one about a girl who went to party, took a beer from the guys there, who put ecstacy in it and then while she was high on it about 8 guys took her clothes off. Then like 4 different guys raped her, after which taking her into the kitchen, putting a beer bottle(!) inside her and taking pictures with their camera phones. Apparently they though it was funny. This story was just horrifying. But, the thing that amazed me most of all is that 3 out of 4 girls the stories were about were 14 years old. Also another thing I noticed in there is that I think 1 or more of them said something like "I have never been in this situation before so I didn't know what to do." Well, maybe if they were warned about things like that happening in the world and were told how to act in those situations, those girls wouldn't have had to live through their horrible experiences.
I can not say enough about this subject, I can go on for hours, but I will save all of you the time and effort and will just conclude it right here. So once again, please don't try to shelter children, because it will be even worse for them once they are put on their own, educate them.
And also Lestat is right. i also met my boyfriend online (on myspace actualy--i know, lame, right?) But like Lestat already said, it's common sence to not bring someone home. Noone had to tell me the whole story -- "Don't go alone, go to a public place...blah blah." I have been well taugh of other things and this is just common sence. I took my friend and went to the movie theater for an opening of a movie... how much more public can it get? We hung out there, then at a game center on the same block, and he was also who he said he was. We have now been together for a year and almost 3 months. See, internet can be helpful. : )
To the person who mentioned volunteering etc...and can't find who said it,I wish to tell her,it is very admirable of you and you shouldn't be embearresed.
Some of my gothic friends do volunteering and I don't mind helping an old woman crossing teh street etc...it is not something to be ashamed of,even tough nowadays this stuff is considered as uncool and untrendy.
Anyway to continue with the topic, what I meant is,that we can show who we really are by our actions not by whih scene we are.
Felix was right about this scene always having a bad name, but still when something like this comes up there's always someone who says:
I knew it,just look how she looks.
Anyway like someone already said,if you don't have anything to fear of,don't.
I thought also about the age limit, but who can tell that they are saying the truth? All we can do is to report anything suspicious and from some time to time to try to "catch" those who seem a little out of the ordinary...Like the Computer Crime Division did with that guy...
Maybe people especially in school should be more educated in this stuff.
But like someone already said, sometimes it's the kids fault.
In fact these things happen all the time, yet continue to happen, some people just decide not to listen.
Then when something bad happnes they say: oqoqoo!
I didn't know what to do,never been in that situation.
I hate to say this, yet I was waiting for something like that to happen upon that site. I know there are many people who are on the Rave who is apart of the freaks site.
I hate to say this, yet that site is dangeruous and this proves it.
- Sin
Well I think in all Reality it is the Parents Fault ..I mean They should be over there Child's Shoulder when they are on The ComPuter..I mean My Daughter isn't aloud on unless I am home and She only gets an hour...With me right there..I Doodle on paper or Read a Book next to her...It isn't the Site at all...it is the Perv's in it..I live On Long Island..about 9 miles from that Jerk....Sorry I am rambling..This just pisses me off....that they are making it like it is the Vampire site...has nothing to do with The Parents neglecte to watch there Child or the Perv it is just the Site..Sheesh every freakin Site has a Perv if you think about it...if the parents was watching she would of never went...ok I will shut up now...LOL
Its the parents fault, its the sites fault, its no ones faults, ECT.
Here is the thing. This leads to this, We understand that sex is a great thing, yet we all need to remember this, there is a Law that we must abide by, those who fail to understand this law or put it on dis regards will end up being hit hard by it.
This man who tried to get sex from a known 13 year old, obviously shows that this man didn't care, in fact this man could be a childer molester and maybe a killer.
-Sin
The one who is at fault is the pervert who made a date with a 13 year old.
Many times ppl that commit suck crime are not even goths... actually most of the time they are not goths
It shouldn't come down to Goth or non-goth that commite such acts, what it is, is someone who is desperate enough to try and take advantage of those younger then themselves.
In fact there was a case against a member of the military who ended up meeting a under age woman and had her come over to his place. This man frequent sites that had titles such as "Vampires are undead Gods" and such. He used this as a means to get this woman to run away from her parents and stay at his place.
So this isn't really about goth and non-goth, its more about, what can one do to get someone to sleep with them, usually those who do not know better or are easier influenced. Which tend to be the younger generation of those who frequent sites like Vampire Freaks and like sites.

yes i see that you have a very valid point here... what angers me is that because the site was a goth site.. then a lot of senseless things just pop up again against the gothic lifestyle... but yes these people do anything to get someone in bed.. thats why they turn to the most weak
BizzyGurl...I live near him too. Its a scary but true fact that people need to be aware of.
I have met friends online....hell I started chatting to my husband many years ago online. You have to be careful what info you give out, and where you meet....etc. There are some sick fucks out there...and they prey on those that aren't aware of what is going on.
I think that this guy shouldn't have been bailed out in the first place, and only on a $1,000 bond no less.
There should be stronger laws, and more education.
I think that they put too much emphasis on the Goth/Alternative culture as the cause, when I think its the lack of structure, support and the like. Why do so many younger people turn to a Goth lifestyle? Most that I have talked to do so because they like- or want- the attention they get, because they feel thats the only way they can get it.
That has always been the issue with the dark life style. People judge by appearences, not by the actions of an individual. I bet if anyone on the site met me in real life they would get a different feel from me, then what they see on this site.
I'm the guy who dresses in blue jeans and a white t-shirt with a black hat put on backwards.
When it comes down to the life style, that is what really influences how people preseave us and how we preseave others. This is, as I believe, why alot of young adults have such sharp run ins when dressing and acting in such a dark manner.
I bet if half the people who do dress in such dark attire and present themselves in the same fashion, where to dress in blue jeans and a white shirt or just something that really doesn't stick out to much as "Gothic" and presented themselves with a smile, There would be alot of people, upon their first meeting, that wouldn't suspect that these people were or are Goths.
Through this, it would make the process of gaining strong friends and less enemies a lot easier.
Yet, this is simple speculations of my own.

yes you must be careful..i met my love online too... will marry soon hopefully :) but again its always a risk and you must be very careful indeed.... the internet is not bad.. its the way it is used actually
I have met my wife online as well. You are right though, the internet is a tool, which if used properly, it can be very helpful in whatever one needs or looks for.

My husband and I met over 3 years ago....we dated for those 3 years and recently got married and had a son.
You just need to use common sense.
My husband is 13 years older then me....we met when I was 19. Legal age. He wasn't looking to date someone my age, and was reluctant to meet at all. But we got to know each other slowly, and it worked out great.
I am not slamming the whole meeting-people-online....just be careful, never lie about your age, and trust your instincts.
i agree with the wanting attention thing... once again partially parents' fault.
I believe it's useless to concentrate on who's the fault.
It is always from all of them, but the most important thing is that he got caught but whatever we might do,or who's fault is,stuff like this continues to happen.
ALL I hope is we won't have any like these people here on VR......
Yeah even tough sadly enough there some who have provocative words and pics on their profiles....
this is why websites are hard to find like this. because stupid little children who think they need to have sex or other things to be cool and this is why many sites require u to be 18 but even then the 13 yos get on them. Its not all the kid's fault but it is mostly because they are willing to meet these people. Their parents need to monitor their children better
I'm still shocked at how many parents don't monitor what their kids do online. We have a computer lounge where I work, and the main rule is that no one under 16 is allowed without an adult resident present. We still have a problem with a handfull of kids who's parents live under a rock. We try to explain that the rule is there to protect their kids, and they look at us like we're crazy. Some parents live in that "oh no, not my kid" phase.
I work security so you'd be surprised how many parents out here get upset when something happens with their kids, and they say that "Security should know who my kid hangs out with" I tell them that It's not my job to know who their kid hangs out with/ has over at the house, ect. I am not a babysitter. It's the PARENTS job to know what their kids are doing, who they are hanging out with, and what they are doing online.
Things like this don't happen only in these sites, but I guess that parents should me more aware of their child's life
Perverts are anywhere and any age, I had been contacted with some of my same age (16)
and in messenger, so I guess its hard to be save if you don't have common sense like most of you said
you know I can't imagine what a 'predator' is. Someone who sits online all day looking for minors to have sex with?
I always imagined it was just horny guys/girls who meet someone, think "wow this person seems interesting" and somehow let themselves get caught up in how easy these people might be.
I'm sure there are more 'predators' on VF as well as here and all other sites. It just happens, unless the site is called "youngeagergirls.com" then I don't think any site is going to be more targetted than the other.
Yes, besides the children who are out looking for this action, it's the parents who are supposed to be the guardians of their children. The internet can only do so much.
Internet: Ok let's try to fix this problem.
Parents: Ok.....
Internet: Tell you what, I'll monitor profiles so people can't give out emails, phone numbers, and etc. You need to tell them that they need to get their ass in bed and not camsex anyone.
Parents: OMG no I'm too lazy. thnx newayz!
i saw this on the news...
and i must say......
that vf or vampirefeaks.com has an age limit and what people choose to say about themselves and what they choose to lie about is up to them. People should know better than to meet people online and agree to meet for sex. Parents need to pay attention to what their child is doing- and the child or person them self should have enough respect to atleast meet someone in person first before any kind of connection is made online. Dating service okay.......but being fourteen and letting some man who says he loves you get you into meeting up for sex.........an all time new low ladies and gents.
thats nuts i go to that site as well i also do believe that there should be an age limit and im not trying to be mean
I am also a member of VF. I think that parents jus need to watch their children more, and the age restriction thing would ruin sites like this for ppl who are jus lookin for friends.
ok....the hunt is beginning.....
a bit of info for all those who blasted me saying it was overreacting claiming that there will be a media witch hunt over this...
today in the edmonton sun there was an article making more claims to goth links in an ongoing investigation....from last winter...this is an old case in which the crim inals were arrested months ago....but now it is in the paper again..why you ask?....not because their court date is soon..not because there is any serious new information....but because the two kids were goth..and burned down a church
this is the only reason for a recap on this case right now...
as I said...the media is digging people...they will find anything even remotely concerning the scene to shine a light on for a while..till some other terrorist does something...or a new serial killer is caught....
we are the deer caught in their headlights
Yea, were having problems out here in Va because of the Taylor Behl case. She wound up meeting someone on Myspace/ LJ who went to or frequented Virginia Commonwealth University. They dated, and he is on trial for her murder. He claims it was an accident from rough sex.
Nancy Grace on CNN had a field day with this and went on the goth angle for a while, because the suspect, Ben Fawley, was interested in the scene (but not a part of the local Richmond Va scene, I know this as a fact). The cops were in the local goth clubs in Richmond and Norfolk trying to investigate us to see if we were all "sexual preditors". Obviously, we're not. Thankfully, local press has ignored the gothic angle, due to lessons learned in the past.
The local press went after the gothic community in 1996, due to some idiot gamer who played VTM one time too many. He wound up sleeping with underage girls, and got caught. The press took it and sensationalized it, untill the locals came out of the woodwork and started fighting back, A few lawsuits were threatened in fact. The police investigated the "scene" and found no widespread illegal activity, so they moved on. The press dropped it and went to the next big story.
If worst comes to worst, you might just have to wait it out.
Sabastion and Daermon, and others already said it so well.....
predators are out there, and the internet makes it so easy...anyone can be anyone and anything they want to be . . . and the sick pervs that go after the young and naive
Internet Predators are always going to be there it is going to be almost impossible to stop them.
my point was more that a predator will be a predator even if they are not online...
without the net they would just meet young kids at parties/concerts/cafe's..etc etc...
You can place an age limit on a site, yet that doesn't mean someone isn't going to lie to get in. The issue is this, no matter what, this is always going to be an issue. What can we do to protect ourselves and others? Easy, get involved with there lives and make the right choice by not going for the "Older" People.

In Malta we always had the Witch Hunt especially from 2003 cause a priest who called himself an exorcist went on a tv programme and said:''Beware of those who listen to metal,it is the music of satan and also beware of these symbols cause they're satanic:the Pentagram,Yin Yang and Anarchy symbol.''
From that day on we were seen more from a bad eye by people and my parents even searched in my room to be sure I don't have ''satanic'' things in my room.
If this news will get in my country I don't know what it'll will happen.
You probably already know what will happen Night. I just hope for your sake, it doesn't. Hate to loose a valued member of the Rave because of BS like this and people over reacting.
- Sin
UH i go on that aswell. but id never meet any one i didnt know off it. I dnt think der shud b a age limit because if people are stupid anuf to get in folfed with people twise their age then ..
Thanks :)
That's my fear.
In certain jobs sites that contain the word vampires and goth are already blocked so I fear that it becomes something in the whole country,in that case I would be screwed:/
When you decide to meet someone from on-line best thing to do is to not go alone and meet somewhere in public, like in front of a cinema for example.
I met people from on-line and always chose to meet in public places.
You just need to use your mind and be responsabile and cautios.
Sexual predators will always be online and the gothic sites will always be one of the sites to blame.
After reading that i think there should be someone on this site who we could message if we get any sexually explicit messages or comments, so we could forward the message or whatever to that admin persona nd they would check them out somehow...
Im just glad that it doesnt happen here or 2 ne1 of us hopefully. its scary that it can happen and it does we just need 2 b careful....and no age limit should b enforced cause every1 needs help :D
you know its storys like that that make my skin crawl and is the reson i dont allow my kids to be online, now some may no think thats fair but if thats what i have to do to protect my kids for such sick people then thats what i must do.
as is said by many people.....it's never a websites fault if something like this happens...the parents of the kids that are going on sites and talking pervetedly should be punished because they are letting their kids do this...rather they know it or not, theres many differant ways to block sites that kids can't go to...
I dont know..people re just silly and stupid creatures.
please bardon my language but the guy was a dumb ass fuck anyway... i don't understand why ppl have to ruin a perfectly good web siteby doing stupied shit anyway, age restrictions are a good idea butit has there draw backs too, young girls will just find away around the age restriction by useing a fake birthday, and parentes can't watch what there kids all the time... i think young girls should be more responceable....
Parents, please be aware of what your kids are up to. Kids, stop being jail bait. And please, for the love of the gods, pedaphiles, get some new hobbies. Like jacking off. Or visiting hookers. Not luring children. Oh, and children, stop being so very easy to lure.
The internet is full of sexual predators. It's also full of sexual prey.
I think parents need to pay more attention to thier kids.
I can tell you this much. When I spawn the anti-christ, I will be damed if they are anywhere online without me either sitting next to them or interacting with them.
I would not trust my kid online without some sort of supervison.
Even with me being 26, I still run into pervs and wierdo's.
Sad that this happens but, kids are niave and some parents just don't care.
i think we should form a an internet predator cult and kill all the bastards, it cant be to hard to find them, if we who have the power to see, if you know what i mean get together and destroy their world. rraaaggghh fuck a molesting ass bastard they all need to be hung by their cocks and their teeth pulled 1 by 1 and then crush their fingers and toes with wire plyers, let the vultures do the rest of the work
ok...that was a colorful thought...
more to the idea of blocking your children or standing over their shoulder....
this isn't needed in most cases
just treat them as adults and TALK to them as adults
have actual conversations with your kids without alienating them, and they will be far more likely to listen to your advice then...My mother treated me as just another person growing up..not as her baby who neede protecting, if she wanted me to avoid something she would explain why in concise detail, instead of saying don't do it because I say so, hell thatsd the fastest way to get a kid to do anything..tell them not to, without good reasoning...
prison is too good a place for ppl like that. they need lined up and shot.
People are idiots...Although I do like the age limit idea
as has been said repetedly...age limits are UNENFORCEABLE
so it's a moot point
It's unfortunate the preditors can really screw things up. We need to stick together and police the site best we can.
Amen Daermon.
Kids need to be monitored, and talked to, checked up on, etc. If they've a problem with that, they only need to be talked to more.
I totally agree, whatever happened to parental responsibility. It seems like now every time a kid does somethjing wrong it's someone's else's fault, someone else's responsibility to make sure that the children don't have access to things inappropriate. Wake the fuck up, it's not the world's responsibility to restrict everything, children who want to get a hold of that kind of thing find ways...it's up to parents to be open with their kids, educate them on the real world and what's out there and then pay attention to what they do, where they go, who their friends are. Parents need to take top billing in being responsible for their kid's safety!
As for the website, perverts and pedophiles use all kinds of web sites to lure out kids, it's not exclusive to goth sites or vampirerave.com and it would be a damn shamne for the media to scape goat the alternative communities because of the deviant predators who disguise themselves as whatever's conveniant.
Oh God, is it just me or THE OTHER SITE is sooo facing a LOt of issues?
Again, guys, be safe. No matter what we're facing, may it be an eight headed dragon or a tiny gnat.
Stay Safe!
Vampire freaks site always had issues. Its just now that they have to actually deal with these major issues that they ignored until now.
When I go into a chat room in that place and there is about 20 people cussing out and making someone want to kill themselves because of a single opinion that really wasn't that bad or mean, and don't kick them out. Yet will kick you out of the chat room when you post a link to your profile more then once every 10 minutes, then yeah, there are some major issues that site needs to work out.
As bad as this sounds, I'm actually glad this happened to them. Now maybe they will realize how shitty they are running the site and hopefully learn from this, fix it, and moderate it a lot closer and better.
The rave actually has a good set up with how its ran in regards to the freak.
Sorry if I offended anyone from the Vampire Freaks site.
