My question is do vampires really have to have day times guardians or this completely myth??
To answer my question
I am not really sure the theory would make sence to me.

A day time guardian? Could you explain a bit further? I have never heard of this before.
Like the dog in the movie 'Lost Boys' and the gooey Zombie guy in 'Fright Night'.
If they could have them, then I suppose that they would, but it's not everyone that can afford to keep a servant.

I can honestly say that I do not know of any vampire that has a "guardian" as Stabb said if they can afford such a thing then perhaps a servant, but I also do not know any vampire they can not come out in day. I suppose that if you could only come out at night it would be nice to have such a person to run your daily errands. Perhaps its a older tradition of some sort.
hmm intresting concept sunblock..but I think I would have to believe in someone watching over a vampire while he rests due to the fact of the hunters and slayers.

I can see your point but in todays times I have not heard of a slayer or a hunter being around.
well Im sure there are some out there b/c their "masters" dont want to get staked
I'm pretty sure that my dog likes to think of herself as my day time protector, but why would you need one? Most people on this board say that they can go out in the sun. Like Cursedtodarkness stated, I just don't see slayers running around with stakes.
Not sure about that UA...but I would think anyone with a higher power good or bad would indeed have some type of Guardian. Normal people have Gaurdian's for protection of different things including each other~~
I think alot of us do have but don't think of them as such. I have a dog noone gets near the front door with out him barking.
i believe tihs to be false, but yet again. this is only my opinion
No way do vampires need things like werewolves or familers to do work for them during the day light hours.
i'm not really sure bout this.. but i'd consider it a myth and say absolutely not...
i think it makes alot of sence to have a day time gaurdian, just for the fact of the fear of discovery while sleeping
yeah i don't know about you guys but i would pay just about anything to any one to aviod being stabbed in the eye while i slept so haveing a daytime gaurdian seems to make sense. However how can you be sure of loyalty i think it would be very hard to find a completely loyal servant
I believe that if they truely burned in the sun that most vampires are solitary and live on or near the edge of society so they would not need guardians
sun burning them is yet another of hollywoods myths.....
earlier legends put them as weakened by the sun, not destroyed by it, weakened to the point that they are more like other men, than a mythological superman
Like having a 'Renfield' .... well strictly a myth and fiction.
Hmm...that's an interesting question. If you look at it purely from a mythical vamp stand point, then I suppose it would be helpful to have someone around to make sure you don't get staked while sleeping.
In real life though, I can't see this as being true. I am perfectly capable of going out during the day, so I don't really need a babysitter to keep me from getting burned or staked. LOL
If there is any truth to the lore that vampires at one point could only travel between sunset and sunrise this would make sense. Not being able to escape a confrontation would have made them vulnerable to attack.
No.. I think someone is watching a little too many hollywood made movies.
we can too have day time guardians. And thank you to whatever kind soul got rid of my repeats for me. :) *points at her cute lil guardian* Ah, he gets the job done.
this was not to deal with hollywood or anything else for that matter its a very valid question...I understands everyones point on this but still..there is no need to be rude either...Its just like a witch having a formilar ...that doesnt make sence to me either but, why couldnt a vampire have one as well??
I don't think a vampire would need a dog now days, thier is enough alarm systems out there to guar over them
I would have to say yes,, someone needs too make sure the Vampire is not disturbed while he is resting.
Aww my other one got deleted...You would not have to have them unless you have a lot of foes
I have never heard it put in these words before. And have never heard of it being something that every vampire has.I would imagine it is taken from the movies or video games.
Many vampires, including myself, pratice magicks and therefore call upon demons or spirits or make a protector of sorts. But not necessarily a day time thing. I have two energies that watch over me, one given to me by my love and the other I conjured up myself.
I have watched a movie about vlad dracul. He was condemed to walk the earth as the undead.Could come out during the day or night. So he didnt have to have a guardian. But that was of course hollywood and not the true story of vlad.
For a more serious answer. Vampires have day jobs and lives to get on with as well as all other creatures. Why would we need a day time guardian? A familiar? Yes. Mine is frankly just a pet. But he watches over me.
it was said easrlier on this thread..alot of people have that protector, but don't really see it as such. i know my wolf/dog is very protective of me. but then again i don't sleep in a coffin all day either lol just kidding folks.. but i would say that back in the days when the belief was more powerful than the truth it's possible when they kept wolf/dogs, or just simple servants around when they believed so strongly that daylight was deadly
not really, you'dhave to know certain signs to even have a hint somethingis wrong, besdies, we can hide in churches now lol, a lot of the superstions about us are just hypes
Must be a remainder of an old myth. I believe the Vampire in the movie Nosferatu had one.
They are not needed nowadays because most bedroom doors have locks.
I dont think it's necessary. Maybe at some point it was..as previously mentioned in this thread ..back in the days of the hunters and rampant paranoia. But in today's world what's the point? Maybe a spirit guardian as NocturisOrchid suggested..but that's a good idea even for us non-vamps :)
MY dog is my guardian. he protects me both day and night. but do not believe everything that you see in the movies because some of it is very distorted
I don't really think that vampires have to have guardians! I guess it would be useful & if I'm not mistaken in some of the movies I have seen, the day time guardian was serving & protecting them in the hopes that the vampire would eventually turn them! I guess if vampires did have day time gaurdians, there would probably be people willing to protect them so that they might to become vampires! I have only heard of the day time guardian in movies though!
it would depend on whether you believed hollywoods view on vampires or not. if you believe that vampires burn up in flames, then the answer would they probably would need guardians to protect them.
i
could you not also use a petection spell as a form of a guardian.
Well, since vampires can be around regardless if it's day time or night time then no. Companion yes.
Why would anything need a guardian while it sleeps? Do you? I don't.
The need for a daytime guardian is a little played out because the evolution of a vampire has left us the ability to walk in the sunlight with little irritation however I keep three wolves in my house just in case and I assure you no one would be able to get to me without making a lot of noise fighting my pets...
I've heard of vampires having a assisstant to do day work for them if they're strictly nocturnal. But I've never heard of a 'day gaurdian'.
welll lol in the strictest sence I suppose I do.. i have somehting that watches over me as I sleep... but its my cat lol and she watches over anyone that is sleeping here.. its odd she has a thing about watching people sleep
as most of them here i don't think we need one... cause slayers aren't around or at least not in my part :)...
and most of us ( likeme) can walk in the sun ad come out at day...so we can do our own erands and protect ourselves...
but i guess that if you don't feel safe you should just try to find a trustworthy person or animal and make him your guardian...
greetings
I dont believe in them. I dont believe in Hollywood Vampires at all.
However, If I get to have one.. can I have a hellhound please? and a Nytemare to pull my carriage!
In the movies they either have a dog or a minion to protect them when they slept.
I think it is crap. Daermon hit it on the nose. No lore really states as otherwise. Movies do nothing of use than to skew the truth to near oblivion.
In my opinion, If I was a vampire, I would definetely want a daytime guardian. I would not want to be staked. But others might think they are not in need of one. It is all a matter of opinion.
oh, everyone should have their own Renfield. if you are talking about the mythological / hollywood vampire, then one would have to have a mortal guardian. those vampires are officially - if not actually - dead, and therefore have no bank accounts, no social security number, no official existence at all. simple things like paying electricity bills and rent (or council tax if they own their own property - actually, a dead person cannot own property), booking plane tickets, etc. think about it - what sort of problems would you face if you had no official or legal existence?
I wonder if you are talking about Hollywood Vampires. They might need a daytime Guardian, but personally I have no use for one. I have a job and school to carry on in the day...the only guardian I need is my German Shepard , Precious :3
i think no matter who you are...you have some sort of guardian....
I would have to agree with some of the others. Not a necessity, but a luxury....
A day time guardian?
Well in myth I would think, but real life vampires would more than likely have a familiar that a guardian, or the familiar may act as a guardian as well just as a regular dog warns of approaching danger or the such.
When researched, there is relatively little lore of vampires having a day time gaurdian. Modern vampires would have little need of them. Hunter's, while not heard of in resent times, make it their buisness not be heard of. And also know who "stake" and who not to "stake".
it shouldn't be that neccesary.. unless you feel tretaned or have a sertand love for your day time watcher
I think having a guardian to watch over me would be great. Better to have and not need than to need and not have. When I sleep I am dead to the world and nothing is gonna wake me. I think I need a guardian.
My feline friend is my 'day time guardian' as you said it. I used to have a domedticated wolf, but I am not aloud to have him in the county that I live, so I had to get rid of him.
I really think that a daytime guardian would be essential. The mote powerful the vampire, the more he/she would want protection from other vampires who want to be the powerful one. Or it could be from humans hunting him/her.
i would think that a vampire would be a lot more smarter than any human and would be well hidden, hence not needing a guardian
It is an intresting thought- but because it has been covered in so many vampire movies- I think it's just a myth
I will say myth. Another Hollywood stereotype.
However, I would like to have one to do my laundry. Any volunteers?
Myth... I think they may have companions but really dont think they need a Day Guardian.
the anser is yes they needed day time guardians to protect there houses and coffins at times of dire risk, usually taking people of good backgrounds od protective natures.
Well if you are talking about guardians while a vampire rests as in movies, No of course not. WE are like anyone else...human and hold jobs have kids and families. I have read in certain places that in antiquity and this may be where the myth of not coming out in the daytime got mixed into the fiction end of facts. They were a warrior race as were most groups in ancient times and their strategy was to catch the enemy while sleeping. They would fight at night because they could not be seen and I would guess they might have adapted to nighttime over time and most likely slept in the day because they had fought at night. So the myth was made and extrapolated upon.
Most large organizations have their Guard groups...like body guards. The only one that has used it as we have almost a thousand members has been our Founder when she has traveled. I personally am not into that aspect of things and don't take it to seriously but we do have it and it is being set up in other cities but its not political. It is more like having body guards. There are formed groups like with anything else that are fanatical and have mythos in their head about those that claim vampyrism in any form and they do hunt so I have been told by people who are in the know. I have never met one but have heard stories...and then there are plain loonies who will kill people because they think they are like novels...so that is why most don't go around advertising themselves and many older like me feel we should not make ourselves too overt because whether we would like to be who we believe we are...you take the chance some loony toon will target you because they are delusional.
ok. at the risk of sounding like a jerk, am going to answer this question.
YES.
and I also am repulsed by garlic, sunlight turns me to dust, and am weakend by a cross. I hate mirrors, cast no reflection, and turn into a bat. I sleep in a coffin on native soil, rise at night, turn others into vampires, am 2000 years old,and am hunted by Professor Abraham Von Helsing.
Now for a serious answer. in myth, yes. in reality absolutly not. I come and go in the day as much as anyone,. though the sun does cause me discomfort. that is just hollywood. My dog protects me day or night.
wow..there was a lot of diffrent answers to this and alot of no. I think the familar and pets as gaurdians are the best exsample but there not nesscary all the ime and mit pets sleep when there masters do in my experiance. so I also think NO its myth
well I have not heard of any real life vampyres bursting into flames from going out in the day time I think that it is a myth brought about by tv. There are those who do have a sensitivity to light but they can wear sunglasses and still are able to go out during the day.
Does the security guard at my job count? No? Oh that's right - this is reality. (Take this response with a grain of salt because I don't mean it half as sarcastic as it sounds, LOL!!!) (( OR AS A PERSONAL ATTACK))
So, in reality, most of us have jobs during the day; we're awake during the day. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't actually need a guardian during the day.
Now, if I were a fictional vampire and needed to sleep during the day due to some issue with the sun, I might need a daytime guardian.
Uhh weird lil hollywood myth. Now I do believe in having a pet or love slave. lol every vamp should have one of those.
Day Time Guardians is a intresting thought to me... i guess ya can say i have one myself then..... my cat got to sleep with me. :D
Some call it a duty or Honor. I chose the life as a guardian when I chose to serve my country. Now I stand guard over my loved ones and those who cannot fend for themselves
I think this is just a myth. Maybe the "Guardian" would just be a companion.
daytime guardians sure why not?....im sure it is a common thing because without one you would be at risk from slayers.....a good home security system may replace them soon though...lol
sort of like the movie night watch, where light beings stay up late at night to watch over the dark beings and visa versa?
Why does someone need a protector...? and are we talking of the real protecting kind.. someon that will do what it takes to keep you from harm..? or just a title.. to get attention..and if so .. d oyou pay well...i have done that befoe... made sure someone was taken care of............
In all actuality I think it comes down to wanting one more than needing one.
I guess it would be good to have one, someone to watch over things during daytime slumber because of a vampyres limited power when the sun is up. Whose to say they couldn't have one? But then again, how many people can you trust enough to be lurking around while you're sleeping?
Lots of security cameras and barbed wire. Maybe a small mine field and a couple Army Patriot Batteries. Maybe some guard towers with automated 50 cals in them. Humm what else can I think of, oh yeah, some UAV’s and uniformed zombies with those little radio things in their ears.
Grab your remote and change the channel. ;)
Hello,
It actually depends on the mood or if they fear or not...
Well, to put my litttle piece in here.....
Back in the days of old, guardians, or vassals (I think thats what they were called) were used to guard the tombs of the sires they had devoted themselves to. This was to protect against grave robbers and enemies that would defile the body.
Maybe the thought of a day time guardians got mixed in with this. but thats just what I think.
this isn't fact but it is just the only occasion i've heard of vampires having daytime guardians was in Underworld when lucian told micheal that werewolves used to be slaves and the daytime guardians of the vampires...
my lil baby puppy protects me during the scary day time hours :P
actually i do not know anyone who claims to be a modern day vamp that has a bodyguard during the day.
Going by the whole thing of no sun, they would most deff have to have someone or something to protect them...Although being a fierce asd they are there really wouldnt be a need to have protectors
Ya know I have been hearing the term"guardian" used alot these days, in some different ways.I have been a vampire for several years and to me, it seems to be a new term or "in" word to use nowadays.Personally I think it's just something that is new and exciting sounding on the internet right now.It just sounds cool, don't believe in the kind u describes and I think it's just a passing fancy of kids.
i believe that everyone regardless of being a vampire or not has their own special guardian in life
Sacred,
I agree that the thread has become a little light hearted. Where I disagree with you is in you idea of need in modern day for such a servant. In the internet age, you have the ablitity to pay bills online or even order stamps if you needed to use a postal service. Every major city had 24 hour stores. I would think that a preditor would make a major city home. Other than getting into a place to live, I don't think a vampire would need much help with the day-to-day living.
My opinion is that it is myth i have thought seen daytime protectors in movies buti have never seen that anywhere else in books or articles
someone been watching too much underworld. they say warewolfs watch vampires during the day.
As Hollywood is involved in this big time, I can see the confusion. In Lost Boys, the Master Vampire had a german shepard as a daytime guardian. In Underworld, Lycans were considered the Daytime guardians to the Vampires. I think only the true Vampires of this realm can answer this question with any validation.
the vampires of myth had a daytime guardian.but in reality,we draw our strengths and protection from other sources. And besides dont we daywalk.
i dont see why they wouldnt. daytime guardians are in a lot of hollywood movies... what was that one with eddie murphy. it was a funny vamp movie. i cant remember. but he had one. i think if uve been around long enough and are well known enough you could probably use one. but i dont see why they are necessary unless u feel u need it. or are paranoid.
I don't think we would know until we found a "real vampire" ;)
i dont think that by protection it means that the vamp cant protect himself. i think it means that in the day when they are sleeping, someone to watch over the house, make sure no one gets in. etc.
again, i think its something that is a preference. some ppl may want that. some wont.
