My thought provoking question is this, If one is a christian, can one be gothic? Or if one is Wiccan, can they be Vampiric?
The Christian aspect is light and beauty, no violence and darkness. It is purely taboo. And in the Wiccan belief the rule is absolute. Harm none.
Most would say that if a donor grants permission it is permissable. Yet if they we're to cast a spell it is the same rule.
So as perplexing as it is for me, I keep finding myself in a spiral of the answers.
I simply want to have the opinions of my own. The thoughts that matter to me the most that come from the those I adore. Out of pure respect. Thanks for your resonse.-V.

Similar threads already exsist. However my answer is yes. As long as you recognize God and live a good life then there is no reason why you cant be both Christian and Goth.

I think it's a matter of preference of what works for the individual. An person needs to follow there own path where life directs them.

As to being Christian and goth, I see no real contradictions. Although, Christianity is far from being all light and good in itself.

As for wicca and vampirism, there are possibly a few fine lines one would have to work around. A lot would probably depend on what you're considering Wicca. Most take some of the basic ideas, and completely change everything else to fit their ideas and beliefs. While there's nothing wrong with that, my own beliefs are a mix of several religions with a large amount of my own insight and ideas, it isn't truly Wicca. Wicca has a fairly stringent set of dogma and practices as defined by Gerald Gardner. If much of that is changed, it ceases to be Wicca that one is practicing.

"If one is a christian, can one be gothic? Or if one is Wiccan, can they be Vampiric?"

Yes. I have many friends who are christian and follow thier faith entirely, yet they dress in a "gothic" manner. I see no problems there. On the other hand, I can see the issue in determining if one can be Wiccan and follow vamprism. However a close friend of mine has some how mannaged to do just that. You simply can not harm your donor in the process, and you must only feed from a donor. There may be other ways of accomplishing this, but thats simply the way I've seen it done.

As for your comment of the "The Christian aspect [being] light and beauty," I couldn't disagree more. Christianity in itself is filled with betrayal and therefore preaches forgiveness. The concept of beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and perhaps a follower of the faith could find the beauty within Christianity, I however have not, though I do respect the religion.

Like any rule, the rules of religion are subject to interpretation. You yourself quoted the Wiccan rede. "As long as ye harm none"

What then would you consider harm? I am not a vampire myself but i do believe a vampire can feed of a subject without actually causing any permant damage. Would you consider making someone a little tired, as harming them?

Like i said, subject to interpretation.

Almost every religion begin as a way of trying to be good and positive and in tune with our fellow man and our planet. Whether such lofty ideals can hold up to a world full of jealously and politics and national expansionism and war...well we haven't really had a religion that survived completely unscathed as it were.

I think the idea to take away from that unfortunate truth is that religion can be very inclusive and very positive. Blame for it's abuse and misuse rests on mankind more selfish natures and not the fallacy of faith itself.

It is my belief that we can be whatever we want to be. I view myself as a religious person...but I choose to believe in the Goddess. Woman was put on this earth to create life with man...so why does the man have to be in charge? Goth is a way of life and a state of mind. You choose who and what you want to be.

I would say that the basis of this question lies more in the theology of the religions mentioned.

While there are no specific tenants in either religion dealing with Vampires, there is also nothing saying that it is ok.

The individual's interpretation of the belief then goes into effect. This can cause much debate, as every person will approach it differently.

As for Christianity being all about light etc. I have to agree with those that disagree with that statement. There are times in the Old Testament that God is quoted as saying, "I am a jealous God." Not to mention several other aspects of humanity that the Bible shows, such as David having a man slain (by putting him in the front ranks of the army) so he can marry his wife.

Religion is too flawed to be only of good. I would say that the overall good is seen in spirituality as it does not discriminate based off of religion since it encompasses, and allows for most beliefs.

every one mixes and matches there beliefs to suit themselves. I think that it is possible to believe many things at the same time whether it be Christian and goth it doesn't matter if you really look they are opposite sides of the same coin light and dark you can't have one without the other. Just because a person is goth does not make them a bad person or evil.

I believe in the rule of "harm none." I am not a vampire, but I do know some vampires, and I, myself, feel that if a person is willing to give blood, of their own choice, to a vampire, there is no harm being done.

...that's my take on it, anyway...

I have known various Christians to be gothic....If you study the history, the dark poets, and style originate from Catholic art and Cathedrals in the late Middle Ages. I was a Christian for a long time. The dark arts in Wicca is the same way, Gothic is simply a way that you portray yourself, and the emotions that you feel. It is not a conformity to a certain faith.

Vanessa,

The answer you seek lies in your own question.

"I simply want to have the opinions of my own. The thoughts that matter to me the most that come from the those I adore."

That right there is a statement of religion. It's your belief, your faith, how you interpret what you understand and what you take from religion.

Regardless of some popular belief; the only right answer is the answer that is right to you.

~ Vlkodlak ~

This, although already well discussed in similar threads, IS a good question.

"Can one be 'this' AND 'this'......."

The truth of the matter is that in Christianity, in order to reach purity of the soul, you must attone for all of your sins by asking for forgiveness for each and every one by confessing to a priest, pastor, minister, or whatever, with the ones preaching to the masses on the lowest level being the lowest tier of hierarchal pyramid of Christianity to whom you can confess your sins. When it comes to being a Christian AND gothic, no matter how devote a Christian you may be, so long as you confess, you are able to live both lives as peacefully and fully as you want.

Now, on to a more juicy explanation....

In Wicca, all Wiccans, witches, warlocks, and just general magyk Practioners, there is always one goddess, being The Mother of the World and its children, and occasionally the Horned god or her consort. This is most of seen as part of a holy trinity that can be found in many religions and spiritualities around the globe.

Also, many Wiccans believe in a single, golden, god-given rule: An it harm none, do what ye will.

This essentially means that if what you do does not harm anyone or anything in any way, shape or form, you are in the clear. Essentially. In some sects and denominations of the Pagan and Wiccan religions/spiritualities, you are also expected to follow some other rules and have other regulations regarding other aspects of Pacticing and, basically, living.

Isome traditions of faith in the Wiccan community, Gardnerian for instance, which is named after Gerald Gardner (1884-1964), are supposed to follow certain codes of conduct reagarding their behavior towards other Practioners whether outside or inside daily pratices and routines.

"The four pillars of a Witch's strength are the power to dare (courage), the power to will (determination), the power to know (willingness to learn), and the power to keep silent (a sense of privacy and respect for others). The most important, if they can be ranked at all, is the last: Witches must respect other people's right to choose their own faith if....to expect it....It is not appropriate for a Witch to brag about her accomplishments or to flaunt her membership in the coven. It is NEVER appropriate to reveal another person's membership without their permission: you do not know what the ramifications of that could be for that person. People have lost jobs, homes, and custody of their children as a result of being "outed" like that....A Witch's word is Magickal...and careless use weakens the power by diluting it. Never promise what you can't deliver; tell the truth or refuse to speak. Every word you say is a Magickal word, part of the Magickal Act of Living....We do not believe in sin; we believe in karma. We deal with it with the Wiccan Rede. The Rede is so simple it almost qualifies as a Zen koan, but it is too easy to understand. "An it harm none, do what you will."....On the surface, the most superficial instruction is simply that one should consider one's actions in light of who might be hurt by them, and then one should modify one's behavior to minimize the harm one does. Minimize does not mean eliminate. There is no way that anyone or anything can live without harming anyone or anything else. The Rede recommends minimizing the harm one does, and strongly implies cleansing your heart so that your intent is not to cause harm."

Adding on to this, in vampirism and vampiric acts, one infilicts physical harm on a subject, themself or another, to obtain the blood or lifeforce or essence of the subject for sucstenance. One from almost any point of view can see that this is a relatively mild act of harm, even milder when the subject from which the item is being taken is a willing victim.

According the previous posting, if you attempt to relieve and reduce the harm you cause by feeding off of the subject from which you obtain your sustenance, then you are indeed following the Rede in the Wiccan tradition.

So therefore, if you attempt to reduce the harm, or even the pain, of certain acts when you are living a vampiric life and a Practioner (Wicca, Paganism.....), so long as follow the Rede as a guideline, you may live as both without conflict.

There is no reason for you not to be able to practice what you believe how you wish to practice it. Its fine to be vampire and wiccan or christian. I have known Wiccans that followed the christian faith in their own manner. Each to their own, and who cares what another thinks. You develop your own morals and ethics in life and follow them, don't follow others.

Religion is based upon a belief system, one that gives a person meaning, or is meaningful. It is built on faith.
I believe a person can be whatever he or she chooses to be, as long as he/she is comfortable in it. It is a matter of personal choice.

I see no conflict between being a Christian and being gothic. I often see those who dress up in the gothic clothing and then enter the church and they do it as a test. They want to see if the people there are willing to get past the outside appearance to the inside person. It's a true to see who's genuine and has love and who the phonies are, the ones that are there merely for appearance. I've known many people who do this and I see right through it.

I do believe one can be Vampiric & Christian. Or Wicca & Christian..

I am Christian and Vampiric myself. Therefore I justify it within my own reasoning. Despite this my point remains valid, I believe; Yes, I see no wrong in being Vampiric and Christian. Neither do I see much wrong in being Vampiric and Wicca. :]

I tend to agree with Toilet Duck on this one, Christianity is a very sorted religion. It is far from being of light.

All religions do , however, intermingle in some way, shape or form. I would call myself wiccan, but, I do watch documenteries and studies of the bible, anchient religious practices, everything basically to see the simularities.

Goths I've known are loving beings. I don't find them to be as "dark" as they project themselves.

I see my previous posts were deleted for some reason. So I'll say it again. It doesn't make any difference how we DRESS, or how we look. Doesn't God , or whoever you follow love us for who we are? Why are we allowing man to judge man based solely on looks or on what another person believes YOU should follow. It's nonsense. Don't judge a book by it's cover. If we were all blind, this wouldn't ever be a concern. We would then judge one another on character, and not their sense of fashion or style. I hope THIS post doesn't get deleted.

I believe that religion is purely a state of mind. If you believe in it, it can affect you. Like children with night terrors... they believe in them so much that they end up with cuts and bruises from monsters they thought up. It's all in how you look at it.

Someone mentioned that religion is an imaginary friend for adults. I completely agree with it...It's giving something adults to believe in to make them less scared of death, as they'll be going to "heaven"

Just some food for thought Wicca is based on peace in most cases however magic is only labelled black or white depending upon its use. Id like to add that christianity being considered a peaceful faith I would say not the bible is full of bloodshed along with the witch hunts the holy crusades, even the churches still squable among themselves with the pen and not the sword these days. I know this doesnt answer your question however I delt compelled to speak my thoughts.

While gothic may be associated with "dark," that doesn't mean evil or sin. The very foundation of being goth means that you try to think for yourself. How could or should that ever contradict any faith? Now if you take personal choice beyond that, the individual may not be a Christian, etc...but that falls to the individual, not on being goth.

one can belong in different groups at the same time.

i am christian and atheist at the same time. funny but true. legally, i am a christian because my whole family are and i was baptized as a catholic.. my family are religious and i grew up studying the religion. but i ended up being an atheist. so personally, im an atheist, but legally im a catholic. its what i write in my resumes and bio data, that im a catholic. i cannot take away the facts and informations about christianity from myself even though i no longer believe in it.

and even though christianity is based on light and beauty, the people are not always practicing it. since the beggining of its history, christians are killing one another due to difference in beliefs..

some rules are broken by people, and when no one knows it but you, no one will punish you.

Christianity is a confusing religion because "religion" is violent and cruel at the same time kind and loving. That is because religion is man made and we all know man to be both violent and loving. Christianity speaks of love but also speaks of violence. Read the bible and pretty much you define Christianity and Catholicism.

As for Wicca it is a modern religion and like many modern religions it does have peace involved. That is because Wicca was meant to take the elements of an old religion and not involve violence but embrace life.

Anyway you can be whatever you want to be but in order to be true to your religion you have to know the boundaries of ones religion. If you don't want certain boundaries then I suggest not involving in religion but in your own personal faith.

Anyway I do think you can be a Vampire and be a Wiccan or Christian but does that make you truly Christian. Wiccan I can see cause it is a more open religion but Christianity itself has been known for its bias towards such subjects. Being a Vampire in Christianity is like being a Witch. It does not work.

Know I am not saying people can't be but people need to read into the religion. Religion as I have said before is man made and if you are going to follow a man made religion you have to have knowledge before deciding your own life style choice. If you decide that you rather live the life of a Gothic or a Vampire then you have to rethink maybe some of you religious choices.

That is just my opinion. I am not saying I am right but that is how I see it.

"i feel that one can have any religion and sexuality or life they choose fuk society"

That makes no sense. It is like saying I am a Vegan and I eat meat. Sometimes it is better to research into a religion then make a total stance on what you want to believe in religius wise.

I have a gay friend who is a Baptist and to tell you the truth it is not working for him at all. He doesn't believe in a lot of what the Baptist church believes in but still he claims to be a Baptist. It is one thing to disagree but to disagree on the main principles of being a Baptist then you know that religion is not for you.

People delude themselves into thinking they have to believe in family religion or to believe in what the majority think. It is better to stay away from religion if you can't agree with majority of what a particular religion stands for.

I don't think it is much of a problem if you understand what you are doing but it can be a problem with your delusions cloud your mind.

Just like my gay friend. He thinks he has to be baptist.

If you can balance your lifestyle with what you believe in religiously then hey more power to yeah... But if you are like me then I tend to want to live the life style I want and keep religion as an open book. I am more of a spiritual person and don't follow any religion.

ok...does this question apply tp other religions as well? Can a Hare krishna be gothic and a Hare krishna? And if not why? Maybe we're looking at this the wrong way, maybe we should be questioning the level of ones CONVICTION and THEIR respect for what THEY believe their religion wants of them. But we would still come to the same dilema, people will ALWAYS judge another person without giving them a chance, we have ALL done it. And we get touchy-feely and defensive when someone "judges" or "labels"us.

this is so subjective. what do you mean by goth, and what do you mean by wiccan? i ask because there are so many different kinds of goth that it is virtually impossible to have an absolute definition of goth. come to think about it, there are many different types of christian - some consider it sinful to wear makeup or listen to any kind of music that is not in praise of god. most think it's okay to wear black - but i know lots of goths that dont wear black, so where does that leave you? many christians have completely the wrong idea about goths, which is why they are against them - purely ignorance.

dont even get me started on wicca. i believe in america, any witch or pagan can call themselves wiccan, but in england wicca is generally used to describe a gardnerian or alexandrian witch they consider blood magick to be dark magick, and so would consider vampires to be black magicians and not accepted in their faith.

i dont suppose that really helps much does it? i suppose what it comes down to is what is the purpose of your religion? are you looking for a faith that will tell you what is right and what you should do, or are you looking for a spiritual path that will lead to enlightenment?

Note : Living a good life has nothing to do with being christian or with religion altogether .
But if Donald Trump started his own [acknowledged] religion , I'd certainly be one of his followers .

Gothic isn't a belief...it isn't even appropriate to use the word goth for the style but people do...the word gothic is a stereotype...one does not have to be all of the above to be "goth" but even one thing...like wearing black al the time....in most peoples eyes they are immediatly classified as a goth. Like I said goth isn't a belief it is just a stereotyped style. I myself am Catholic and I don't claim to be a vampire..or goth I don't practice vampirism and I don't really stick in to the "goth" stereotype other than I wear a lot of black

I say yes, you can be both. I used to be a Christian, I went to a Church of Christ church and I was slightly goth. I was different from everyone at my church but I still went and believed in God. I am now agnostic, but I don't see why a person can't be one way and believe in a certain religion that may or may not agree exactly with who they are.

Christianity teaches many things, as do Wiccans. The main rule i find with religion...hurt no-one, including yourself and live honourably. Goth can mean many things. For the most part it's is morose clothing and morose mood. That does technically fall in with Christianity's idea of humbleness. If you're a more flashy goth, it still doesn't really harm anyone so long as it doesn't distract you from your relationship with "god". If your find yourself depressed and goth is the way to communicate that, i reccomend finding help to feel better. You can be goth and be a very positive person! I am :P

Yes to both...Being goth is simply a fashion statement and love of darker things but their are no rules one hast to absolutely follow. And on the Wiccan statement being vampiric does not absolutely require 'harming' anyone. Psi-Vampires can not actually harm anyone unless they can control how much energy their taking in. For the Sang. Vampires they can simply have blood donated to them or simply they can willing give the blood fresh from the body, i wont go into details. Of course as many have said before me, the deepest roots of Christianity involve betrayal and so much more which makes your statement false.
