I would like to see what your view is on this subject. Is it possible to be reincarnated or is it just a a way of people getting attention for their mental illnesses?I have taken the liberty to bring in some research I have done on this .
The term "reincarnation" means to be made flesh again or born again in different life forms. The scientific meaning is 'to be born again into the flesh of another body.Simply meaning that the soul leaves the body at death and is reborn in a new body. The "Soul is believed to be eternal or immortal and may experience many different lifecycles but never as the same person.
Some speculations are that the "Soul"goes through a period of "purification" or rest before entering into a new life.
Or that the "Soul"at death searches for a new body to inhabit whether it be another human or some other lower life form such as an animal.
It it was also thought the Soul"would leave and enter the body during sleep as a vapor leaving through the nose and mouth.
Later notions was that a soul transmigrated into an infant within the same family, thus giving way to family resemblances.
This concept is one of great Skeptism among the social orders and although believed by many is still a subject yet to be fully explored and documented with any merit.

The Egyptians believed in reincarnation or transmigration of the soul. They thought the soul transmigrated from body to body and there for embalmed the body in order to preserve it for the journey along with ka(the soul)which would accompany it to the next life or world.

Eastern religions and traditions
Eastern philosophical and religious beliefs regarding the existence or non-existence of an enduring 'self' have a direct bearing on how reincarnation is viewed within a given tradition. There are large differences in philosophical beliefs regarding the nature of the soul (also known as the jiva or atma) amongst the Dharmic Religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism. Some schools deny the existence of a 'self', while others claim the existence of an eternal, personal self, and still others say there is neither self or no-self, as both are false. Each of these beliefs has a direct bearing on the possible nature of reincarnation, including such concepts as samsara, moksha, nirvana, and bhakti.

Hinduism
Main article: Reincarnation and Hinduism
In India the concept of reincarnation is first recorded in the Upanishads[citation needed] (c. 800 BCE), which are philosophical and religious texts composed in Sanskrit.
According to Hinduism, the soul (atman) is immortal, while the body is subject to birth and death. The Bhagavad Gita states that:
Worn-out garments are shed by the body; Worn-out bodies are shed by the dweller within the body. New bodies are donned by the dweller, like garments.[4]
The idea that the soul (of any living being - including animals, humans and plants) reincarnates is intricately linked to karma, another concept first introduced in the Upanishads. Karma (literally: action) is the sum of one's actions, and the force that determines one's next reincarnation. The cycle of death and rebirth, governed by karma, is referred to as samsara.
Hinduism teaches that the soul goes on repeatedly being born and dying. One is reborn on account of desire: a person desires to be born because he or she wants to enjoy worldly pleasures, which can be enjoyed only through a body.[5] Hinduism does not teach that all worldly pleasures are sinful, but it teaches that they can never bring deep, lasting happiness or peace (ānanda). According to the Hindu sage Adi Shankaracharya - the world as we ordinarily understand it - is like a dream: fleeting and illusory. To be trapped in Samsara is a result of ignorance of the true nature of being.
After many births, every person eventually becomes dissatisfied with the limited happiness that worldly pleasures can bring. At this point, a person begins to seek higher forms of happiness, which can be attained only through spiritual experience. When, after much spiritual practice (sādhanā), a person finally realizes his or her own divine nature—ie., realizes that the true "self" is the immortal soul rather than the body or the ego—all desires for the pleasures of the world will vanish, since they will seem insipid compared to spiritual ānanda. When all desire has vanished, the person will not be reborn anymore.[6]
When the cycle of rebirth thus comes to an end, a person is said to have attained moksha, or salvation.[7] While all schools of thought agree that moksha implies the cessation of worldly desires and freedom from the cycle of birth and death, the exact definition of salvation depends on individual beliefs. For example, followers of the Advaita Vedanta school (often associated with jnana yoga) believe that they will spend eternity absorbed in the perfect peace and happiness that comes with the realization that all existence is One (Brahman), and that the immortal soul is part of that existence. The followers of full or partial Dvaita schools ("dualistic" schools, such as bhakti yoga), on the other hand, perform their worship with the goal of spending eternity in a loka, (spiritual world or heaven), in the blessed company of the Supreme being (i.e Krishna or Vishnu for the Vaishnavas, Shiva for the Shaivites). [8]

Jainism
In Jainism, particular reference is given to how devas (gods) also reincarnate after they die. A Jainist who accumulates enough good karma may become a deva, but this is generally seen as undesirable since devas eventually die and one might then come back as a lesser being. This belief is also commonplace in a number of other schools of Hinduism.
Sikhism
In Sikhism reincarnation is a central tenet.[9] The Sikhs believe that the Soul has to transmigrate from one body to another as part of an evolution process of the Soul. This evolution of the Soul will eventually result in a union with God upon the proper purification of the spirit. If one does not perform righteous deeds, one's soul will continue to cycle in reincarnation forever. A being who has performed good deeds and actions in his or her life is transmigrated to a better and higher life form in the next life until the soul of the being becomes Godlike. From a human life form, if one performs the proper functions of a Gurmukh, the person can achieve salvation with God. One must cleanse the soul by reciting Naam, by remembrance of Waheguru and by following the path of Gurmat. [10]

Buddhism
Main article: Rebirth (Buddhist)
The Buddha taught a concept of rebirth that was distinct from that of any Indian teacher contemporary with him. This concept was consistent with the common notion of a sequence of related lives stretching over a very long time, but was constrained by two core Buddhist concepts: anattā, that there is no irreducible ātman or "self" tying these lives together; and anicca, that all compounded things are subject to dissolution, including all the components of the human person and personality. At the death of one personality, a new one comes into being, much as the flame of a dying candle can serve to light the flame of another.[11][12]
Since according to Buddhism there is no permanent and unchanging self (identify) there can be no transmigration in the strict sense. However, the Buddha himself referred to his past-lives. Buddhism teaches that what is reborn is not the person but that one moment gives rise to another and that that momentum continues, even after death. It is a more subtle concept than the usual notion of reincarnation, reflecting the sophisticated Buddhist concept of personality existing (even within one's lifetime) without a "soul".
Buddhism never rejected samsara, the process of rebirth, but suggests that it occurs across six realms of beings. It is actually said to be very rare for a person to be reborn in the immediate next life as a human.[13] However, Tibetan Buddhists do believe that a new-born child may be the rebirth of some important departed lama.
Whether or not you believe is your choice in knowledge of your self.I believe and do not fear what others may say, for if we all look deep inside our own consciousness we may see the truth that we hide within us all.Hainting memories you cannot explain or perhaps the feeling of being out of place or just simply the desire to "go home" when you are sitting inside your own house. Before you sit there and say that you have only lived one life or that it is not possible do a "self journey" and open yourself up and see what lies within you.You to may find a whole world within you that you never knew existed.

To get more facts about this subject here are some sites you might find interesting. This is where I got my facts. There are many morebut this is just a few,for more site please google search it.

I believe in reincarnation I've had quite a few past life experiences and dreams of past lives that I had . Once I had a dream of and old Plantation House that I never seen before in my life and a woman with 6 kids with alot of people around . Well that dream stuck with me so long I started to draw everything that I saw . When my grand father saw the picture he about fell out of his chair . He took me up in the attic and went in a lokcked chest and took out a photoalbum that hasn't been out since way before I was born . He showed me the house , and told me that was his grandparents house and there wa also a photo of the woman and 6 kids . I came to find out that was his Grandmother and one of the kids was him . Could I have been one of the people in the photo ? I never saw it before and its really freaky .

I believe in reincarnation - after all, would you just simply cease to exist after death? And whenever anyone mentions criminals or torture to me, I always have a vision of screaming in a cell, in front of me there being a torture rack, filled with weapons, and the floor being covered in blood. It disturbs me slightly, although it is the only past life memory I have.

when i was 5 years old my parents were murdered and i had dreams that i was someone else in the past. Some people would argue that it was my minds way of coping, a form of displacement of reality, other people might argue that the stress of me loosing my parents allowed me to remember my past life because the memories where so similar to what had happened

Recycling all the way.

In my personal opinion, at the end of each life we are granted another. The quality of our new life depends on our actions in the last. Eventually, the soul gets old, learned. I think it is when we are truly wise that our soul lays to rest, and not a moment beforehand.

Its an interesting question. And unfortunately one of those that we shall probably never have conclusive proof of. but yes, I do believe it's possible to reincarnate. I think thats partly where you get your interests in the current life.

For example, someone who is heavily into Egyptian history (for example) may well have lived before as an Egyptian citizen. Or someone who feels an affinity with a particular animal may have been that animal and transgressed in this life to human. Actually, that puts me in mind of a thread to start...

Actually I'm Kemetic so the phrase:
"The Egyptians believed in reincarnation or transmigration of the soul. They thought the soul transmigrated from body to body and there for embalmed the body in order to preserve it for the journey along with ka(the soul)which would accompany it to the next life or world." is only partially correct....

We actually belive that the ritual embalming process is in place so that your body appears "whole" & "Godly" to the goddess Ma'at (goddess of Justice) in hopes that you are reincarnated in the same form as before, this process was usually only performed on the upper eshcelon in egyption hiarchy, also the items & possesions that were buried with the body usually were meant as gifts to "plead your case" & show your worthiness to return in that form... But every Kemetic belives that we are reincarnated as we lived, basically the same as Karma..so if you where an asshole in your life, you'll be a burrow in the next...

for those that have memories, great; what are you doing to improve you in the now.

Or if you know something was so much better, why not make here better? There is too much thought into what was, when there should be more thought going into where are we going.

One step forward, there have been too many going back.

I think life is a "do-over." Our physical bodies are just containers for our souls. Our souls don't cease to exist just because the physical body dies.

Someone already said (Demin?) that you keep coming back until you get it right. I believe that's true.

I have memories of a few of my past lives. I believe that some of the mistakes or flat out wrong things I did in my past lives will follow me until I've fixed them and learned my lessons, so to speak.

I am Wiccan, and I believe in reincarnation! Christianity never really made sense to me. :(

Anyhow, yes, reincarnation (to me, at least) is a real thing. It's the way all these souls just keep re-enterring the world. It's also a great explanation of why we feel deja-vu sometimes when we know nothing like it has happened in this life.

If anything, I'm more likely to lean twords reincarnation than a heaven or hell. I do believe in a soul and that it is indeed eternal, but I don't believe a soul can be without a flesh and bone form (And as far as I know, its just the soul that resides in heaven), so logically (from my view) the soul either fades or is put into another form (reincarnation). I have also found you information you posted to be very interesting, and I thank you for taking the time to organize such information.

Does this explain the belief that cats sitting on your chest suck your soul out and you die?

As to turning this into another Christian topic of dicussion, instead of reincarnation. No Christians (at least not anyone I have ever known) believe in this. Being born again refers to an inward rebirth. I can message if you care to hear and see scripture that clearly speaks to this. So lets stay on topic...

I have cleaned that up.

Yeh i do believe in Reincarnation. I think everyone comes back i think it has something to do with Karma, because sometimes i think we may not have chosen the right path so until we fulfill what we are intended to suceed whatever that may be, we keep coming back and do not move on.. But that's just what i believe.. Each to everyone's own.

I have to say I agree in reincarnation as well. I've been told while in school that there were some things I wrote that couldn't have been written by someone my age. Especially the time period ones. I wrote one about the U.S.S Arizona's sinking. I showed my english teacher it and she told me pointedly that there was no way I wrote that at all. No one besides the people that had been there were capable of writing so much detail. Not including me being able to tell people things about themselves that they hadn't told anyone. I believe in reincarnation, and i knew it´s true because i had a regression and i could see myself in past lives... it was recorded and i even spoke languages... i strongly think that if your spirit or soul dies in this body, you born again in other place in other time... i was male and female and i could also recognize members of my current family... so it´s true that you travel with your beloved..

I've had/have too many of memories that could not have come from this life not to believe in riencarnation. As i mentioned earlier for example the incident in France, also whjen i was a child i was obsessed with Swizerland for some reason, i used to draw picures of Swis houses which were apprently historically accurate, speak some foriegn words, possibly french and just completely ramdom stuff such as the name of a particular piece of historical clothing etc

I don't know if I believe in reincarnation. It seems likely to me though. I've talked to a lot of people who get strange feelings that they've had a past life, or even memories. Sometimes I have assured knowledge in my head that I never learned.
Where does wisdom come from? Could it be from past lives? Maybe. I won't know until I'm dead. But it certainly seems possible.

Though, if reincarnation is true, then I don't believe we're doomed to repeat cycles on this earth for all eternity. I believe that eventually, after good "karma" is built up, we can ascend to be higher beings elsewhere.

Reincarnation, literally "to be made flesh again", is a doctrine or metaphysical belief that some essential part of a living being (in some variations only human beings) survives death to be reborn in a new body. This essential part is often referred to as the Spirit or Soul, the 'Higher or True Self', 'Divine Spark', 'I' or the 'Ego' (not to be confused with the ego as defined by psychology). According to such beliefs, a new personality is developed during each life in the physical world, but some part of the being remains constantly present throughout these successive lives as well.[1]

Belief in reincarnation is an ancient phenomenon. This doctrine is a central tenet within the majority of Indian religious traditions, such as Hinduism (including Yoga, Vaishnavism, and Shaivism), Jainism, and Sikhism. The idea was also entertained by some Ancient Greek philosophers. Many modern Pagans also believe in reincarnation as do some New Age movements, along with followers of Spiritism, practitioners of certain African traditions, and students of esoteric philosophies such as Kabbalah, Sufism and Gnostic and Esoteric Christianity. The Buddhist concept of Rebirth although often referred to as reincarnation differs significantly from the Hindu-based traditions and New Age movements in that there is no "self" (or eternal soul) to reincarnate.

During recent decades, a significant minority of people in the West have developed a belief in reincarnation.[2] Feature films, such as Kundun and Birth, contemporary books by authors such as Carol Bowman and Vicki Mackenzie, as well as popular songs, regularly mention reincarnation.

lol...
i know that reincarnation is impossible to happen, scientifically speaking is impossible...
about the spiritual side of the subject, is all about faith, right?
so, we have to study and see if it's acceptable or not... because no one can prove anything of what happens beyond death...
now, of where the first human ones came? and could they be reincarnated repeatedly?
if you guys are going to mix things up, you will be wrong from the begging... you can not believe in reincarnation and, lets say, evolution at the same time, because reincarnation has a foundation and it's not evolution... now, how deeply do you believe in those religions that professes reincarnation? have you already stud them?
do you live accordingly to them? if not, you must start right away, because as everything in life, you must give something of you to earn something... and it is no different in the religions that professes the reincarnation...

and once again, sorry for any bad english... is like i said, you must give something to earn something... and i have not give the sufficient amount of my time to speak or write perfect english ...

Personally, I believe in reincarnation, but not as the Hindu's would. I don't believe that We come back as cows, beetles, etc, but rather in human form, to work out karma, so to speak, with others whom were reincarnated at the same time.

There are debts between souls, and these need to be repaid. Souls are reincarnated in groups, basically, in my opinion. In this way, each soul has a chance to work out past issues with those it had issues with in past lives.

We are here sort of like a school, and until We get it right, until We are smart enough to know what is important, and learn the lessons that were in store for Us, We cannot move on.

Even in many other religeons there is a lot of literature on reincarnation. Even the Bible tells Us that "We shall in no way achieve.......less We be born again". So, there it is, my two cents worth.

I'll have to say that other than believing in the concept, I don't believe the actual occurrence of reincarnation exists. Once our bodies die and return to the earth, the energies they contained also dissipate into their surroundings. The units of energy that at one time was a part of my personality and life will be absorbed by other life forms so that no more conciousness of self will remain when I have passed.

Bit of a gloomy way of looking at life, but realistic nonetheless. In this way, I can assume that not only am I myself, but I am all things and everyone.

I definately believe in Reincarnation, there has to be something more to it than our mortal beings, what of our souls,Do they just die with our Mortal bodies?,must it be an end, what are we made of?,I have so many questions I wish could be answered but that I guess goes with the elusive word of Why?

nop, i'm absolutely 100% sure... the bible is against reincarnation... and this is not the thread to speak about this, because it would need lots of info...
but here is some verses about that:

Hebrews 9:27 "And inasmuch as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this [cometh] judgment"

we only die once...

John 3:2 "the same came unto him by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that thou doest, except God be with him.
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except one be born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter a second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except one be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God!
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born anew.
8 The wind bloweth where it will, and thou hearest the voice thereof, but knowest not whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit."

Jesus is not talking about reincarnation, is talking about born of the spirit, this requires the power of God and faith... once you received the Holy Ghost you start to experiment supernatural things, speaking new languages without even learn them... and so on... like i said, it requires lots of info...

malakh - Cancer wrote a nice article regarding reincarnation, citing excerpts from the Bible. Aside from that, all I can say is that perhaps the teachings of Jesus steered away from re-incarnation but that is not the whole of the Bible. That is really only from the four Gospels of the New Testament. The coming of the Meshiach claims that Elijah will be reincarnated. From what I've read about Jewish tradition, this is why the children will run to the door before dinner at Passover to see if he has returned. Before Christianity there was Judaism - so yes the Bible does teach reincarnation. Without it, there would be no way to "prove" Jesus was the Anointed One.

this is an endless discussion, and it takes lots of info to be replying to you or to anyone that says that the bible approves or even encourage reincarnation... i only discuss the bible with those who have read it and study it... listen, Elijah as never died, so how can he reincarnate? if anyone does not accept the teachings of bible, that is ok... they don't have to, but do not confuse others with false arguments...
no one can prove what's going to happen beyond death, when we get there, we'll see...

I believe in reincarnation. I have so since I was five, when I thought about being just 5 years old, I just knew that couldn't be right. I knew I had been around for much longer than a mere 5 years. I also believe my artistic talent came with me from skills developed in another life time. Possibly my likes and dislikes may also have transferred from my past lives.

Veering slightly away from religious context, and playing into the scientific law of conservation of energy, it might be at least reasonably plausible that reincarnation might be concievable...
If all energy cannot be destroyed, merely changed, then who's to say that our souls, a type of energy in its own right doesn't also alter its shape or inhabit another form altogether once we pass on?

On a personal note, I'm torn between how I feel about the concept. On the one hand it sounds intriuging to be able to live once again, in another life and through a different point of view even if you might have no knowledge of your previous one.
At the same time though it's a bit daunting to believe that this might be an eternal cycle of death and rebirth; to live again on this plane in some twist of, as someone mentioned before, "etheral recycling."

Perhaps as Ravenknight stated it could be construed as some cosmic lesson for us to learn and reshape ourselves with each subsequent reincarnation until we reach the "enlightenment" we are supposed to, or become cognizant of whatever message such a process is supposed to convey....

Energy transfer changes the manifestation of energy, so the energy that you are composed of would change from the consolidated essence that is you and dissipate into its surrounding environment.

I think that if you were perfectly happy with your life when you die you go to the summerland but if there was something really important you felt you needed to do or tell someone or something like that you have to keep coming back until you get to do it, thus making your life perfect in your eyes and therefore complete

"Energy transfer changes the manifestation of energy, so the energy that you are composed of would change from the consolidated essence that is you and dissipate into its surrounding environment."

Hmm very interesting....
In other words, whatever energy might comprise my soul or lingering essence after death, would in effect dissapear entirely then, even as the environment would in effect absorb that energy?

Then supposing that I've interpreted it right, and this might be the case, where is there room in that explanation for evidence of a viable afterlife, and reincarnation for that matter, if such energy is altered in that manner?

I personally believe that we are presigned to accomplish something in our lives... to master it as it were. Until we complete this task in one form or another then we continue to come back until such time as we succeed in the goal. With that said.. yes I do believe in reincarnation.. I do believe that this is now my last life as I have completed my task set.

I personally believe reincarnation to both be possible, and to be in practice. There are people I have met that are just wise way beyond their years. I think that the soul stores alot, if not all, its memories from its past lives, thus why some people find certain things just come naturally to them. I believe it is just a matter of finding what knowledge our soul is storing.
