Yes I believe in karma. I think it is your own conscience comparing the right and wrong things you've done.

Karma is said to be the resonant energies resultant from actions expressed, during each period of existence which the being observes across lifetimes.

This energy moves as both positive and negative and it is the goal of Bhuddists to acheive a perfect balance of these two opposing forces, in order to acheive a state of Nirvana, or perfect calm, rest and peace- essentially ending the need for existence and therefore, suffering.

I have always felt that Karma (bad Karma anyway) is a self imposed punishment when we feel guilt. Like a self fulfilling prophecy, we set ourselves up to 'pay it back'

That's the only way I can explain why those who don't feel guilty often don't get 'bad karma'. Some folks do great harm in their ascendency to power and never seem to pay for it...dying happy, rich and surrounded by friends and family. I think their lack of guilt insulated them.

yes I belive in karma I myself haven't experiencied it but I know a couple of people who have. In my opinion the definition of karma is one action returns the same or similar action in return. So say you do some thing nice to someone karma will turn it around and something nice will happen in return same goes for bad things.

I believe strongly and completely in karma. Karma is even spoken in the Bible regarding a parable that Jesus spoke of. But yet is it not also in the Witches Rede? For every action there is reaction.

Have I experienced karma? I am not out there consciously looking to see if I have received or spread karma. I think just living life, there is a receiving and giving of karma. I also believe that karma goes from one of your lives to another.

I have experienced my actions causing their reactions. Karma, as it were. Sometimes it is a good thing. Sometimes it is an annoying painful lesson.

No one is exempt from their karma, one must learn how to balance it out somehow though.

When you say no one is exempt, do you mean to include some kind of afterlife punishment?

There are people who committed massive distress or destruction in others lives who seems fairly happy right up until their death. I don't look at death as a fitting punishment for that so how did Karma 'pay them back'?

Let's look at an obvious example...Ken Lay...lived like a king and caused untold suffering in California by rigging energy markets and untold suffering in his own employees when he didn't tell them the trouble Enron was in. He has been villified and spent the last year of his life going through court prosecution but then died before ever truly paying a price. He lived in luxury right up to his death. Did Karma occur or must one believe that it will somehow occur in the afterlife?

Felix.

No one is exempt from the cause and effect of their actions. Its not for me to say about the horrors that people commit. All I know, is we are alive on this world, our actions effect us as consequence.

Karma comes to us as the wheels turn. A man who starts out with a million dollar company and turns up as a drunk on the street corner, that is his karma. If he enjoys his life as a drunk then he has achieved a happiness nothing else would.

Karma is what balances us now. Keeps us moving in the paths we are meant. There is no gaurentee of another life. We have this one, it could be the only one. So our actions balance themselves out.

I believe that Karma is a way of us getting back what we give. I have noticed that for the most part for every bad thing that you do it comes back to you in a way that hits and hurts you, as well as for every good thing that you do it comes back to you in a way that is very helpfull to you and that is goint to help bennifit you. So yes I totally believe in Karma.

So then do you feel everyone has paid for their sins or crimes against mankind?

To me, guilt is what causes karma...for those who go through life without guilt...rarely seem to pay for it. But guilt is not a choice to make...the guilty feel guilt because we are in touch with our humanity. It may be an easier road for the guiltless and the wicked but we're not all given the choice of that path.

I think if you look at just one human lifetime then of course there will be cases of so and so did wrong but nothing happened to him....etc

Karma has to be viewed a little differently.

Looking at the bigger picture as it were.

Seeing Karma as a reward/punishment system is a little to neat for me.

I think we will never have the true answer, and it is all in ones opinions and perspectives....

I for one believe that whether it be past life or present life, we pay for the bad and we are rewarded for the good that we do....

I explain karma to my daughter ALL the time....
For example... if she plays up and acts naughty with me and then she falls and hurts herself... I tell her, thats karma. lol.

I have had personal experience with karma and fully believe in it. It's a universal law. As far as those who have committed heinous acts and seemingly gotten away with it, the appearance of well-being is only an appearance. Someone's inner life can be in total turmoil though outwardly they appear to be fine. Luxury does not guarantee happiness. That's just my take on it.

I believe that Karma can be both good and bad. Not too many people believe in good karma, (They'll say: "Karma only notices me when I do something bad!") so I feel I am obligated to share a "good karma" experience that I've had.

This silly blonde (me) was vacationing on a budget and staying at a really cheap motel circa de Disney in Florida. I was not carrying a purse at all during my vacation, and so my jacket pockets contained every DIME I owned, my ID, credit/debit cards, AAA info, checkbook, plane tickets and reservation information.

When I checked out of the motel, I realized much later that day that I accidentally left my jacket (with all of its contents) out in the open, on a chair, in a common room.

I believe that it was the good karma that I had stored that prompted the fates to allow me to find a ride 45 minutes back to the hotel and retrieve my jacket without a single item missing.

That... is Good Karma in action.

one makes the world in their image daily. karma exists only as the law of cause and effect. we bring about consequences to our actions as the result of our personal response to our actions.

it is not a force that is its own entity. it does not exist as a force to be reckoned with. it is only the consequence for actions. one could be entirely evil and get away scot-free. one could be entirely good and perform evil acts. as a result of their fear or anxiety for what they have done, they manifest a lash-back of events, thus creating what is commonly called karma.

I am not sure what it really is, but Karma is the best explanation of what I experience. I have found that anyone who wrongs me, if I let it go, karma takes over and punishes that person indirectly. I have observed on countless occasions where, for example, an office co-worker did something out of spite to me, but later gets a door in the face by someone else. Having it happen once would be considered a fluke to me, but when it occurs almost daily for years on end... that would be indicative of something worthy of noting.

So to answer your question, I would say... maybe. If it can be proven that it what it is, I will believe, but for now I remain skeptical.

Karma is what happens when you knock a cup off the counter, and it shatters, and you get yelled at for it by someone who complains. And something so small setting off chains of events.

Like a punk roommate who complains that the bacon is gone after days of it in the fridge, and all the other food roting, If it was in there he wouldn't have said anything, and it would have rotted going to waist. So it was enjoyed, it was eaten days previous...the karma was that despite something good came of it, that the situation balances it because of a prick punk who complains and his day is all ruined because he was to slow on the draw, bringing another satisfaction the "i told you so" concept to mind about his truer nature. So it allows for the bacon to be enjoyed twice as much :P

Honestly, I believe in a scientific method. And with that scientific method comes my view of karma. ( Yes, I know, you're waiting for it, but you're waiting for nothing...)

I believe in karma.
I believe that mental thoughts and processes can affect the world. I believe that mental impulses can change the world for better or for worse.

What is karma? It's a feeling, a broadcasted thought. When you think negatively, those negative vibrations fill the air.

That's all karma is. When you add negativity to the air around you, it increases the concentration gradient of negativity. That is bound to come back at you. When you think positively, and act likewise, the positive will come back at you.

Karma reacts the same way people do. If you're an ass to them, they are less likely to respond to you favorably. If you are civil, you will get the same return.

I believe in Karma in the sense of you get what you give, or what goes around comes around.

In life, I've just experienced that if you are gracious then grace will be given back to you in some situation or another. Of course, the same with more negative things.

It really all comes down to this:

Every action causes a reaction.

Its true in science, as it is in everything else. You can't get around it. A reaction is more or less just another word for: KARMA.

What goes around, comes around. I believe that. the anglo saxon word for it is wyrd. well, actually, wyrd is a sort of combination of karma and destiny, but it's pretty much the same.
in physics we have "every action has an opposite and equal reaction." cause and effect. everything we do has a consequence.

it's a basic law of physics - you can't deny it.

Well I was raised by the Indian religions. All living creatures are responsible for their karma — their actions and the effects of their actions — I mean What goes around comes around.

You do not wish for any ill to befall some one because it will come back toyou and if you wish good upon someone it must be of purity and not in hopes of having a good come back to you because you had done a good.

Every one gets their rewards in different ways and the Karma is what controls the good and bad of that of what action you have taken or done in your like.

I mean you cannot do good and be doing it because your hoping that it will be returned. that is like premonition of the fact , and Indians believe it will bring Bad Karma, you think you can fool the laws of nature and we believe that you can not.

Karma (Sanskrit: कर्मन karman, Pāli: कमा Kamma) means "action" or "doing"; whatever one does, says, or thinks is a karma.

In Buddhism, the term karma is used specifically for those actions which spring from :

mental intent (Pali: cetana)
mental obsessions
which bring about a fruit (Pali, phala) or result (vipāka), either within the present life, or in the context of a future rebirth. Karma is the engine which drives the wheel of saṃsāra for each being.

In a discourse (Anguttara Nikaya Nibbedhika Sutta) the Buddha said :

“Intention (cetana) , monks, is kamma, I say. Having willed, one acts through body, speech and mind”.
Every time a person acts there is some quality of intention at the base of the mind and it is that quality rather than the outward appearance of the action that determines the effect. If a person professes piety and virtue but nonetheless acts with greed, anger or hatred (veiled behind an outward display of well-meaning intent) then the fruit of those actions will bear testimony to the fundamental intention that lay behind them and will be a cause for future unhappiness. In this sense the Buddha spoke of wholesome actions (kusala-kamma) and unwholesome actions (akusala-kamma).

Karma is thus used as an ethical principle and a cosmological explanation for the world. Buddhists believe that the actions of beings determine their own future, and because of this there are no private actions: all actions have a consequence. The emphasis of karma in Buddhism is on mindful action, not on blaming someone for whatever happens to them.

There is a further distinction between worldly wholesome kamma that leads to more exalted and rarefied forms of samsāric happiness (birth in higher realms), and path consciousness which leads to enlightenment: (nirvana). Therefore there is samsāric good karma, which leads to more fortunate rebirths (such as the human realm), and then there is liberating karma - which is supremely good. Once one has attained liberation one does not generate any further kamma, and the corresponding states of mind are called in Pali Kiriya. Nonetheless, the Buddha advocated the practise of wholesome actions: "Refrain from unwholesome actions/Perform only wholesome ones/Purify the mind/This is the teaching of the Enlightened Ones." Dhp v.183.

In Buddhism, the term karma is often used to refer only to samsāric karma, as indicated by the twelve nidanas of dependent origination.

The differentiation between "good" karma and "liberating" karma has been used by some scholars to argue that the development of Tantra depended upon Buddhist ideas and philosophies. [citation needed]

Because of the inevitability of consequence, Karma entails the notion of Buddhist rebirth. However, karma is not the sole basis of rebirth. The rebirths of eighth stage (and above) Bodhisattvas in the Mahayana tradition refers to those liberated beings who consciously choose to be reborn in a future life in order to help others still trapped in saṃsāra.

Some people have problems with the teaching on karma, often of what exactly the Buddha is asking them to believe in when asking them to have conviction in karma.

First, action really is happening -- it's not an illusion.
Second, you really are responsible for your actions. There's no outside force like the stars or some good or evil being acting through you. When you're conscious, you're the one who decides what to do.
Third, your actions have results -- you're not just writing on the water -- and those results can be good or bad depending on the quality of the intention behind the act.
A very good example of the working of karma in real life is recorded by Mr. Yuan Liao-Fan, a sixteenth century high ranking government officer in China. He wrote the Liao-Fan Four Lessons with the hope that it would teach his son, Yuan Tian-Qi, how to understand the true nature of destiny.

[edit] Wrong Understandings of Karma
In Buddhism, Karma is not pre-determinism, fatalism or accidentalism, as all these ideas lead to inaction and destroy motivation and human effort. These ideas undermine the important concept that a human being can change for the better no matter what his or her past was, and they are designated as "wrong views" in Buddhism.

Pubbekatahetuvada: The belief that all happiness and suffering arise from previous karma (Past-action determinism).
Issaranimmanahetuvada: The belief that all happiness and suffering are caused by the directives of a Supreme Being (Theistic determinism).
Ahetu-apaccayavada: The belief that all happiness and suffering are random, having no cause (Indeterminism or Accidentalism).
[1]

Bhikkhus, adhering to previously done kamma as the essence, there are neither motivation nor effort with what should be done and what should not be done ... Not upholding ardently what should be done, nor abandoning what should be abandoned, those ascetics and Brahmins are as if deluded, lacking a control, incapable of having any true teaching. (Buddha)
In Buddhism, Karma is simply there as a guide and an indication of what your present is and how one's future can be made better by self effort; fatalism and pre-determinism is the anti-thesis of the notion of perfection or self-conquest -- which is the primary aim of Buddhism.

The Buddha asserts effort and motivation as the crucial factors in deciding the ethical value of these various teachings on kamma.(P.A. Payutto).

Karma is just a fancy word for the Divine Balance maintaining the balance of Good and Evil, Order and Chaos, Light and Darkness in the universe.

And yes, it very much exists. Depending on the severity of your deed, other deeds may be performed as per the will of the Divine Balance to make sure the balance is not tilted on either sides of the scales.

Might I also add, those who are adamant about Karma's nonexistance are the ones who typically have the most to fear from it's existance.

That is not to say that those who do not believe in Karma have the most to fear, but the ones who are hell-bent on convincing everyone (including themselves) that it truly does not exist, truly do have the worst to fear.

Would you believe that everytime I put a certain special necklace on, I can tell which is good karma and which is bad? I put this necklace on, and when bad karma hits, a certain feeling goes away. It is like I am on top of the world sort of feeling. When good karma hits...I get the sense of wonder, like being a millionare on a small clippership with my wife gazing at the sunset. I believe very much in karma, as I feel its waves every day of my life. Call it universal empathy.

Yes, I believe in Karma. I understand Karma as the universe's way of righting it's self.. Even when you believe you have gotten away with something, Karma has way of setteling the score. Sometimes when something happens to me I realize it is my Karmic dept being re-payed...I can think back to an earlier time when I may have done the same thing to someone else...Even when paying your karmic dept is unpleasant, I believe it is also a blessing. If we don't pay our dept in this life time we may be paying in the next.

karma is a force if u will. karma is almost like luck if u will. if u put good out in to the world then good u shall get back. if u put evil out in to the world that evil u shall get back. and in most cases it comes back three to four times as good or worse depending on what u have put out in to the world. and with me i have felt karmas evil hand once or twice. i am not in the mood to get in to the exact matter cuz i wish not to. it is just to painful. but yes karma in the magick world is u one true friend or enemy depending on what branch of magic u pratice. whether it be good or evil.

I do believe strongly in Karma and saw it at work first hand when my father had a major industrial accident that broke his back, cheekbone and knee. An accident that shouldn't have happened but did.

My father was an abuser, on all levels. And he was always stronger and more powerful than any other adult I know. At a young age I was taught that Karma will be my revenge so I believed in it so strongly that when my father had his accident it showed me that given time Karma does come through.

My father no only ended up weak and unable to defend himself, he was also unable to sexually perform which kills him to this day. Physically he isn't strong enough to take a punch to the face and well yeah he is as weak as a lamb. And my brother and I are the strong ones now.

So you may believe or not believe in Karma, but I experienced it and I know its true for me.

I do believe in Karma. I believe in juju. I believe in all of that. I know my boyfriend tells me that he doesn't, but I am a but superstitious when it comes to things of that nature. I think that all positive energies that we put out bring us back positive things. And that all negative energies we put out brings us back negativity. Just like juju. Every good deed will bring something good to you. Maybe it does have something to do with our own guilt also, but I am not sure. I just know that doing good should bring you good, and I would like to believe that is how the world works. But I can't say it does definitely.

Yes, I believe in Karma completely. I have seen it work in my life and in others. To me, karma is positive or negative energies you send out and return back to you in either form. One example that I will use is, when you are driving and have stopped say in the way of a driveway and you let in a car that is waiting, that can be building good karma. That maybe simplistic but, it works.

Yeah, I beleive in it sure enough. Karma is a way of maintaining a balance though out someones life. When one is doing good things and unselfish in a way, eventually they will receive good things in return. Doesn't have to be right away, or even in this life time. When we do bad, we can also get our just deserves for being wicked. But so is the way of life. I will not go into details. Everyone lives a hard life at sometime. It is the choices they make to pull them from it, or to let it over power them...I beleive.

"Karma" is a term borrowed from Hindu dogma and incorporated into the "new age" hippie lifestyle of the early-mid 60s. It has stayed around because it is an easy way to inject a cause and effect relationship to morality. It has become ingrained into the Pagan culture as whatever the pagan equivalent is of the Golden Rule.
No, I do not believe in "karma", it is just another construct for those who must have some moral code in their lives.

I do believe in Karma and I try to live my life with that thought constantly in the forefront of my mind. Though I can’t say that as yet I have experienced it. Maybe I should be happy about that.

I fully believe in Karma. It has shown up throughout my entire life to it's full potential. The rule of 3 definatly tends to fallow me. I also believe in past lives so in that case I see Karma still kicking my ass.

Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

"Countless rebirths lie ahead, both good and bad. The effects of karma (actions) are inevitable, and in previous lifetimes we have accumulated negative karma which will inevitably have its fruition in this or future lives. Just as someone witnessed by police in a criminal act will eventually be caught and punished, so we too must face the consequences of faulty actions we have committed in the past, there is no way to be at ease; those actions are irreversible; we must eventually undergo their effects."

"I am the owner of my karma .
I inherit my karma.
I am born of my karma.
I am related to my karma.
I live supported by my karma.
Whatever karma I create, whether good or evil, that I shall inherit."
