Be honest now, I'm serious. how many Goths were heavily influenced by the Addams Family? I used to watch the classic series as a kid, and I have to say they were role models to me. there were many influences in my life, but they were a significant influence, so be honest and tell me - am I on my own here?

The did influence me and still do, as I got some tapes..yeah I am old..vhs tapes of them that I use to record....lol

The make-up is certainly derivative... is the Goth thing not simply a perversion of the 80s Pierrot fascination...?

I was more influenced by the early 90s grunge scene, the whole black tshirts and flannels and black nail polish. I never really got out of that whole look, i just adapted more black and more dark makeup. Addams rule tho!!!

I have to say that looking back the Adams family was certainly an influence.

I loved both The Adams Family and the Munsters. Until recently I did not embrace the 'darker' part of my pesonality, but looking back both of those shows played a part on who I was inside.

Now I just let what's inside out more often.

I can't say I was influenced by anything like that. I never even saw the Addams family or the Munsters until after i'd started 'turning goth' (as my mother put it).

actionly i luv that show!!!! but as a influence no not really i use to watch the munsters to actionly i still do sometimes. But what influenced me was my bff she showed me the darker side of myself and helped me to really embrace it.

I know its not the same but I notice that in the 80's the misuc had more of a gothic style or sense, like the group the culte, (if I am nto msitaken, the guy use to wear lipstick like a dragg queen on pcp) they had the goth "look" and it made some impression on me. So not only tv shows but music as it was getting more freely shown, less hiden.

But sadly I just recently started watching the show.
But, I am soo now addicted.

Sure, the Addams Family was one of many influences I had growing up. It was an alternative to all those cutsey preppy shows controlling the airwaves. It's the only show/movie I remember as a kid, where it was okay to cheer for the "bad guys" and it didn't end with sunshine and buttercups.

It flipped things around, so that "bad" was good, and "good" was bad, but regardless of the stereotypes they fell into, they were still good people at heart.

I can't say how much of an effect it has had on me over the years, but I know I will always look back fondly on it. Who knows? Maybe it's time for me to dig up a few episodes and watch them again.

thats why i identified with them - they were different, outcasts, vilified by "respectable" people, but they were good people who clearly loved each other. they were the first truly alternative culture to be portrayed on TV.

My quesitonw as was it only the tv that was a goth influance or also the music?

Wow, I remember watching that show as a child, but, sorry, it wasn't an influence on me and what I've become today.

i was more influence by other programing...frankly i havnt even seen the whole original addams family movie, only bits here and there...

It was definetely an influence, along with the Munsters.

Unfortunately, I identified with Wednesday way more then Morticia.

well in my case it was lots of influences. not so much the music. I liked Duran Duran, and Adam and the Ants were a bit of an influence, but I am also into psychedelic and Prog Rock.

I always loved the Gothic Horror films, and I always thought the Munsters and Addams Family were really cool. If Tim Burton had been making films in the seventies, that would have influenced me too, but he didnt.

I've always had a thing for black and purple, and I've always had a thing for leather - dunno what that's about though.

I never even watched them growing up so I would have to say no.

I watched reruns of them when i was growing up but i really do not know if they influenced me or not, but i guess they did to a point not much, but that was a great show...

I enjoyed the shows, but cant say that they influenced me in any way.

Was one of my absolute favorite shows growing up.. I do believe that they do have some influence on the culture of today...

I loved that show. It did make me like black a lot more. I wanted to be like the mother. I love her. Can't think of her name at the moment. But It kinda influenced me but not really.

LOL I loved the show yet I have to say that it was more like bands that influenced me .....

hahah, i never watched too much of that series. what really influenced me was manson.

Kind of... I loved Morticia she was so classy and elegant and beautiful... I wanted to be like her but alas... not possible. Lol. Then "goth" music came along (or well I got more into it)... The Cure, Souxie and the Banshees, The Damned... they were more an influence than TV shows were. Unless you count the fact that I'd watch the video clips enthralled...

wishes to be somthing that they are not.
Though the show was cool and so was the Munsters..Still I doubt that any shows may cause any influence to anyone to change there entire life-style.

like it or not, media has a big influence on people's lives. for one thing, it opens up your world. before mass media such as television, radio, and cinema; people's experiences were limited to the small and insular world around them.

people are different. some people fit in with those around, and some don't. most people either find it easy to fit into their small community, or find they can change to fit in. a few never do.

so who is the real wanabe? the person who is goth at heart but suppresses it to fit in with the neighbors and friends and family, or the person who sees a pop star or a TV or film character they can relate to, and is influenced by them?

if someone's lifestyle or fashion appeals to you more than that of the people that surround you, then that is the one for you

Who you really want to be is who you truly are deep inside.

I wouldn't say I was necessarily deeply INFLUENCED, although it gave me ideas...
Like cutting the flower part of the rose and just leaving the thorny stem in the vase XD

i think the munsters had some influence on me but not very much.. even tho i do love both programs

i love that show it like an addiction to me but it never influence me cuz i do my own thing and i recommend to the one that do get influence by that please dont do ur own thing and dont copy other styles

i wuz never into the adams family so it cant be my reason for goth...my best friend is probably the reason...he wuz more like a brother since hes about 4 years older than i am and he always looked after me since no one else would...he has always been my role model soo....

I cant say that i was, in fact i cant say I ever even watched the show.

I have a friend who dyes one white streak in her hair like Lily Munster, and has always wanted a wicker chair like Morticia's. I'm not greatly influenced by these shows - though i do have a pet disembodied hand, a killer vine in the greenhouse, and a lion in the bedroom.

But yet, there is plenty of other role models.
In my case anyway.

I have to acknowledge the bands that influenced me more than the Adams family (it was always a bit to cheesy for me). But seeing the style and charm of folks like Siouxsie Sioux, Andrew Eldritch, and Dave Vanian as well as their musical talent. That was an influence.

but I was much more influenced by the Storyteller, Grizelda, and various others on The Hillarious House of Frightenstien.

ACtually, mine was more along the lines of "Dark Shadows" the original series...and the movies as well

I loved the Addams Family and The Munsters but they had no bearing on my becoming goth. Goth is something I just felt comfortable with it felt normal to me

I always thought Morticia Addams was an archetype for a goth chick. I like the humor on the Addams Family. It was darker and gothier than the Munsters who seemed to be more slapstick and fish out of water type humor.

If you watch the Addams Family now on TV Land you will see that it was out there for the mid-1960s like Dark Shadows and the old Dr. Who.

On a weird note, I am always upset because I could never see what kind of shoes Morticia was wearing because she always wore that dress with the octopus train on the bottom that went to the floor

I loved the show and still watch it when it comes back on the tv but i don't think they had any influence on the way i am today.

well I was influenced by the Addams Family but Ozzy Osbourne and The Undertaker played a big role in my life.

by truth, i wasn't influenced by the Addams Family or any other movie (though i liked them alot). i think the music was the one that brought my interest and where i found myself.

nobody had heard of manson when i was a kid. Ozzy was still in Black Sabbath (yes, i was a fan), but Alice Cooper was a definite influence for me.

I was one of those kids always into "different" things..When I first saw the Addams family, I thought I belonged with them..they were my kind of family! Even now I joke with friends that they are my cousins lol..And as an influence, I dont think they influenced me to become what I am, just helped the process along. I was already wearing dark makeup and "strange clothes" as my friends put it. Some 80's bands helped a bit..Siouxie and the Banshees,The Cure.David Bowie was an influence too..

Im a big fan of The Munsters even though it came out years before I was born. Its not an influence on me but I just like the fact it was in black and white…I happen to like really old black and whit films. It gives you the opportunity to imagine what they look like in color….anyways back to the subject. I also like The Addams family too. I was a huge fan of Wednessday and still am.:P I dunno why, but it made me laugh and still does when she says the most the most horrible things to her brother in such a casual way. :P

They never influenced me but i did enjoy them.The characters were simple but they also had a certain depth in them that you could admire..Uncle Fester was kick arse...

i love the addams family. i use to watch the old show. and the cartoon. but i was more addicted to the beetlejuice cartoon. litia was a role model for me.

but my personal style is a mix of victorian, 70's punk, and some hippie styles.

I wouldn't exactly call the role models. but they sure sparked my interest.

I went to a party as Morticia when I was 17. So yeah that had a huge influence.
