Kool,thanks for the links CK.
I don't have one, but my mother's is a wolf, and comes to her in times of great distress. He doesn't provide any guidance, but he's there as moral support and a source of energy during her MS exacerbations.
Her Primary Care suggested she be put on drugs for hallucinations while her neurologist encouraged the visitations.
I have several and each has its own special order.
My life long animal is the fox
My fox, there are many different foxs, but mine is the red. Fox has been with me for as long as I can remember. He has helped thru times that I thought I would never over comes, he brought me back from a dark place that i felt i would never escape. he guides me from between the two planes, to my safe passage back.
My journey animal is the elephant
My gentle giant, my elephant comes to me in my dreams , and helps to guide me theu troubles times and to work past the doubts that I have or the bridges that I may have to cross.
my messege animal is the dragon fly
My dragonfly came to me after my grandfather passed away and every time they are around me i have the sense of my grandfather
my Shadow animal is the panther
Panther took a long time to come to me, as he is cautious and powerful. It was my ability to see past the fear of past things that allowed him to come to me.
Many spirit animals have assisted me to find the right path. Good luck in finding yours.
agree many animals can help guide you to your path, good luck finding yours
A friend of mine talked me into doing a meditation to find mine. I was expecting a spider, but I ended up with fish. I am quite open to the whole notion of animal totems, though as yet I am not sure how they might be used.
there is soo much information out there on totems these days , and this was a great thread. Everyone has to find their own way in seing and listening to their Totems
Native beliefs further explain that a totem animal is one that is with you for life, both in the physical and spiritual world. Though people may identify with different animal guides throughout their lifetimes, it is this one totem animal that acts as the main guardian spirit.
With this one animal a connection is shared, either through interest in the animal, characteristics, dreams, or other interaction.
http://www.legendsofamerica.com/NA-Totems.html
we dont have just one totem animal
we do have a governing totem which is our primary use of its strength in our every day life
totems fill our lifes often we just usually are to blinded to notice, when walking driving running somewhere take a deep breath and let yoru eyes open for real you'd be surprised who is trying to tell you something
i have felt many totem animals at first it was a wolf because i have always felt a bond with wolves, but then i felt a snake and a few others over time. each one i felt for a reason.
I would have to say a bird that appear's on my window all the time, and a rabbit is another. The rabbit is closer to me so to say it let's me feed him and all and he's a wild rabbit it not a pet. He eat's right outta my hand!
I believe in animal totems and know they are of great benefit to some. I do not know mine and doubt I will. I have never taken the time to research it deeper to find out more.
Pandora and Razael are both right. And as one progresses one can learn to call on the desired animal spirit they wish to learn from.
My Major Totem is the Great Bear.
But I also have a bond with the
The practice of the Totem is a very serious engagement in my opinion, and not to be taken lightly.
This being said, I do have quite a tall totem built as extends my heritage. My life animal guide is Cougar. cougar is the energy of leadership. If we listen to Cougar we learn to become the leader that people follow by choice, not by force. Cougar has the wisdom to lead through love, not through fear. Cougar is a take-charge totem or energy.
The next totem is Canus Lupis or Grey Wolf, I think we all know what this guide represents...Loyalty, family etc.
Then we have Falcon, Falcon totem comes to me when I require higher vision, or higher knowledge in solving current dilemmas in our lives. The Falcon is a solar emblem for success, victory and rising above a situation. Basically Falcon is a guardian and visionary, with wisdom beyond the ages.
Next is Horse, Horse meanings combine the grounded power of the earth with the whispers of wisdom found in the spirit winds. The Horse has long been honored has helper, messenger, and harbinger of spirit knowledge. Considered wild and an emblem of freedom.
Next is Butterfly, Butterfly represents transformation into something better and higher. The butterfly shows methat I am able to create new realities in our life through conscious change of thought. As I go through the process of consciously changing my thoughts, I am in the caterpillar state. As I see the beginning of my reality changes – I am in the cocoon – still nurturing my thoughts to positive outcome. As I reach these outcomes, I at last emerge as a butterfly.

Totems
Mine has always been a black cat. I do believe that everyone has one.
If I do have an animal totem, I know its a turtle. I have always been drawn to them and I am fascinated with them. I currently have two of them that I have raised since they were the size of quarters six years ago.
Animal totems can do many things for you. And you can gain them in different ways, how you can varies from culture to culture.
I have many and got them in three ways.
Some simply came to me and decided to stay with me. They offer lessons and offer support in times of need.
A few I have asked for.. they are usually around for a short time. And usually just there to offer a lesson at a special time.
and the last way I got some ( 4 actually ) was a family member gave me his.. with their consent of course. And they are not here to teach me, they are here to protect me.
So totems can give a few different kinds of help.
My animal totem is the white Siberian tigress. I have always loved and been drawn to this animal and spiritually feel connected. I love to become one during a meditation running wild and free.
I tend to see them often in dreams, etc and know that something important is happening.
First of all, if you want to understand totem animals, read Animal Speak by Ted Andrews.
Secondly, I do believe in totem animals. Totem animals are not only spirit guides and protectors, but symbols of your own personality. Some of these totems are for life, some for a season. My lifelong totems are the Wolf, the Raven, and the Dragon. You need to discover your totems and learn what you can from them, and understand that you may not like your totem, but it is yours for a reason. Learn to use it.
I always have believed in animal Totems... Or Spirit Guides...
I grew up in the country, surrounded by animals.
In a time of need, I saw an osprey (a fish hawk, if you will.) I was living on the edge of a lake, and I was standing on the dock, watching the sun set. Out of nowhere, the osprey landed no more than 10 feet from me. It got closer to me, looked at me, and kept inching closer. Then it flew off. I told my mom, and she said it was a sign of good fortune!
I believe you find an animal spirit to help you when you least expect it. ^_^
Two of my animal totems are the crow and the cobra. I discovered my crow totem through journeying and before an immediate family member of mine passed away. A flock of crows began nesting in our backyard right before he passed, and left shortly thereafter. I see them everyday. The cobra I discovered through journeying as well. Animal totems are absolutely wonderful. I personally have found that some can change over time, depending on the lessons you need to learn.
I dont think i have one but if i did i would want it to be a cat.. besides i have a cat. an orange taby named tiggers
well let me see in dreams :
snake warns me
bear is protector
wolf tells me of family needing help
eagle is my future sights
panther is my stealth
i have been assocated with different animals..my spirit animal is the bear and falcon..and my mistical animal i the gryphon..all loyal protecters
From my knowledge and experience in this subject animal totems are used as a guide for said person. The totem is the being that is drawn to a person for one or many reasons and is there to help them in the persons path to what they were meant for.
I have yet to have mine find me or so i think..but once they do find me i'll let them guide me and help me all they want.
Thanks to the individual above who posted the links. =]
My understanding of Totem Animals, is that these are the animal spirits which guide and influence us as we journey through life.
Most people have multiple animals. I know two of mine are the Eagle and the Wolf. I carry a lot of traits of these two animals which guide me in life. Strengths in loyalty, courage, communication, vision, leadership.
I'm still learning about mine, but I know I've got a white tiger. His name escapes me when I'm awake, but never when I'm dreaming. He is my strength when I need it most.
Animal Speak by Ted Andrews is a wonderful book. Its one you'd keep on your shelve for years.
i feel Animal Totems help channel a animals spirtual energy
for me it is all based on my native beliefs. My spirit totem or the animal the represents me is the lynx who is also known as the keeper of secrets while my guardian who is always with me to protect and guide me is the Thunderbird.
i'm part native american and my animal is a horses..it means freedom and spirit..
Animal totems are very powerful each animal has a teaching . They are also protectors of you and it is good to have them in your life. As my family says may the totems give you good medicine. I your really interested there are alot of books in the native belifs about it. I got my animal totem book at barnes and nobles
I consider the fox my totem animal. I wrote about my bonding experiences in my journal. Check it out in Letters in October 2006.
The fox is also mine as well and has been for as long as I can remember
I think they are real and I have seen them affect people live greatly but it depends on how open you are to the idea and how you view your interaction with them.
i like the the wolf for it is stonge and brave. each one has a differnt meaning to everone else.
I have always believed that animals you love and are always drawn to are natural totems for you.
Is an animal totem the same as a spirit guide? I am not sure if I have either, but this thread has provided some excellent information.
I have two totems, the bear and the wolf. They are the spiritual guides that help you and protect you. They are symbolic of myself, and my traits. When I do dream-work or energy-work they are there in the background.
i believe in them, i'm an american indian- of the wampanoag tribe in mashpee mass., mine is the wolf, because of somthing about social skills, and i was told somthing about me dying at the hands of a cheetah
I have always had the main spirit guide of a black cat/panther. This is my dream guide. My life guides change as my life changes. I have had owls, other birds,a frog, etc. Right now I feel drawn to the dog (no not my husband). I think maybe because I have been a solitary cat for so long that it is teaching me pack life and rules to help my family life flourish.
My guide is a wolf, but my totem is said to be a butterfly, which I like to lean toward, as every time I come in contact with a butterfly, something happens, good or bad
My animal Totem is the wolf and has been since I was little. My wolf is with me always.
It is crow that reminds me of a synchronicity event.
It is Frog that reminds me that it is time for change.
Today, I have been thinking of Pan, or the Satyr...
I am not sure how he relates in the native aspect... but he has been with me longest, he is also the most subtle...
(please do not equate the satyr with satan... I do not, although one could draw certain parallels to the christian mythos, in a CS Lewis kind of Way.)
All I really know is that Animal totems are a persons guide, with what they represent.....
The animals that always seem to appear when there is something I need to know or work through are cat (usually silver-grey), wolf, and raccoon, though raccoon is less active now than he once was. I think that's because I finally learned to be a survivor and stop wearing masks.
At one point, I kept seeing pigeons, which symbolize home, but they're not a common thing since I stopped moving around so much 2 years ago.
Cat is still working with me, and so is wolf, and probably will be for years to come.
for me it is the crow they always warn me when there is trouble brewing
i have a love of dragons- not sure if it would be totem animal- my chosen spirit name is "Firebird." I read what the meanings of animals are when the same one comes up or if i need help with a certain lesson. Bear for health- otter for fun-wolf for famiy- elephant for matriarcal connection- butterflies for rebirth- i have some books but there are some sites on line.
I have just begun to learn about animal totems. Mine is said to be the wolf. I agree somewhat with this theory but I plan on researching this area in more detail soon.
I view my totems as having omen qualities. If I see a hawk or other bird of prey, I am certain to have a good day. If I see a buzzard, I need to be careful that day. Weird I know, but it is what I have always believed. No one taight me this, I just know it somehow since I was very little.
I have been told i have a few depending on what cultures path you are following . In the druid path I have been told its a wren . The native americans have told me its a wolf .
well i dont beleave in animal totems
but i do enjoy to look at totem pols that the native americans created wich i think is very cool
I have used my totem to help me make choices that I find difficult and in times of need for healing. I meditate to call him to me and can speak with him in a sort of dream state. (by the way, my totem is the wolf as I stated earlier)
Animals are wondrous happy creatures. There is no doubt that animals have beautiful, balanced emotions. They love and defend one another. They feel sorrow, ect. Yet, there has never been a war between animal species. They know nothing about greed, envy, and hate. They live their entire lives without sin. They have many amazing powers and use those powers only to benefit their kind and not to overcome their opponents. There is a reason why the Creator put all of us together on the same planet. A part of that reason is to learn from one another. Animals are here to teach humans. They have many powerful lessons to give. They remind us that we are only a small part of creation that each part of creation has a place, that each creature has its own skill and wisdom.
My totem animal is simply a cat. They bring comfort and love and acceptance, but when it comes to deeper darker things, there is always the wolf. He frightens me, but he always lets me know when the balance is shifting. I'm not sure if its normal to have a totem like this, because I fear this one but in the same I know he is there for a purpose.
My totem animal is a wolf.
I know it seems like the obvious advice, but if you're seriously interested in learning more about animal totems, you could Google it. There are many good resources available that way. I would also recommend reading the book Animal-Speak: The Spiritual and Magical Powers of Creatures Great and Small by Ted Andrews.

being of aboriginal descent our beliefs are that everyone has an animal totem...as i was being given my traditional name and clan....I was also blessed to receive the knowledge of what my animal guide was...the wolf. I didn't quite believe(shame on me) until a good friend of mine who is a psychic, dropped by my old place of work one day. Our building faces a park...as we were sitting outside, I told her how I luv to just sit here and watch all the dogs in the park...she burst out laughing...of course I asked what she found so funny...she said that everytime she sees me she sees my wolf hanging over my head....I asked why over my head....she told me that is his way of showing others how protective he is of me....but she also said that normally he sits to the right of me...strange but true...I am blessed to be have him....he certainly has protected me over the years.
I always felt like the Dragon was mine. I have been drawn to them. So to get closer, I use to breed all the dragon type reptiles I could.
Mine appear to be, the wolf, a hummingbird, a dragon, and a panther.
mine is the wolf as well, everytime that something is going to happen, my wolf shows up and gives me a warning
Think its possible to have a mythical creature as a totem?
Though myself, I have only experianced Totems of existing animal characteristics. I do know of several who carry the Totems of great mystical beasts.
I believe animals guide us. Animals are smarter than humans, at least in the simple life. Kill only if hunger or protection, not for politics. Eat only what u need, leave rest for others. Why can't we be like that?
the wolf is and always will be my brother
the bobcat is the one I fear
Very well stated, Gealachlass,It would be nice but highly doubyful that it would happen. Too many control freaks in the world today that are obsessed with power .
This is also something that I am learning about.. I have just gotten into the Animal Totems.. So all of this information is helping me. Thanks for starting this thread...
A friend of mine did a totem for me once , she said I was a wolf , does anyone know any good websites for this ? Btw this is a good post .
Don't know that much about animal totems, but I remeber when I was a Boy Scout, we had animals to represent us and lead us down or path: Cub, Wolf, Bear.
Each of us have animals totem spirits guiding us, teaching us, and protecting us
i dont know much about them either, but the links have been very helpful =]
Yes I believe in the Animal Totems and what they represent within our lives..We must learn which ones we possess in order to grow dpiritually along our paths..
This is a facinating subject - I read some of the sites listed abocve and it is completely on the mark. Thanks for bringing up this subject,
my spirit animal like many others i am sure is the wolf, i relaate to this animal in many ways .
I have had many come into my life during times that i need them, I have found that my overall animal totum is the panther. The one which had been with me the most is the snowy owl. others I have had come to me has been the snow fox. the funny thing is all the animals that have come to me have all been white in color, even the panther.
I have been recently told that my animals are the owl, horse, turtle and coyote..she would not tell me any more.Would anyone be willing to help me figure out what this is about? Also,I thought you reall only had one animal.Guess not?
Thanks in avance.
the owl horse and turtle, hit home but the coyote kinda suprised me.I followed that link you provided SS,but didnt find anything on it.
I believe that animal totems r for previuos people on this earth and they gave them a sense of being and it was related to their gods. it gave people and was the basis for people treating animals as we do now!
I posted that the wolf may have been my totem but I have researched and found it to be the leopard. I draw energy and strength from the leopard. It is almost like I am drawn to it and guided by it.
Excellent post Mystical! My totem is the wolf and I use it to make life choices and in times of confusion and need.
I believe that Animal Totems are almost like examples. If you look into the spirit of each certain animal, you'll find qualities that we all need to lead healthy lives. When I look at my totem animals, they remind me to balance myself, or not let a particular aspect of my life get out of hand.
It's comforting somehow to have them as well...
To me, totems are creations of the native American Indians. They are there for worship of the animal world, as it is what the natives saw and experienced around them. Everything from the giant thunderbirds (birds preceding thunderstorms), all the way to the great bear and other animals whom they saw played a part in nature.
I see totems as a vessel for the native Indians to connect with the animal world. And they did so harmoniously.
To me they are the wolf, hawk and snake ( that one more rarely). At the times when they show up I usually have some struggle in life and knowing what message they bring to me I can learn from it .
