For those of you who are (or say you are) addicted to blood, does that make us a true vampire, or just a bunch of crazy blood feinds? Just curious what you have to say.
Hmm really I wouldnt know, but it might lead to some form of evolution, eventualy.
alixaryon could be right on this one. It may be a slight genetic mutation that will eventually help some survive on others - once again dividing homanids into two distinct races. In times of drought or famine, those with this genetic defect would be able to supplement their diet with live blood.
i dont know if it makes you a vampire... i know that i started feeling the need of blood over a year ago... and i drink regularly ...
maybe not as often as i'd like...
Katina - interesting that you should bring that up. It's one of the reasons I think this could be a future possibility (though improbable).
The chicken is, as we all know, white meat and the pig, more closely similar to the human anatomy than other animals, is considered the other white meat. Humans are red meat. This distinct meat and anatomical composition may provide certain nutrients to those with this "vampire" gene in times of extreme dispair. Not necessarily the meat, but the blood necessary to maintain this type of meat. Besides, why kill the cow while it's still producing milk?
Liking something, even desiring it is completely different from being addicted.
Just as being alergic to something is different than experiencing noted side effects. There may be a few who become addicted, I don't know, but that would be the very rare few.
shadowfever, do you think there is a link between genetics and alcoholism?
I wouldn't say I had a blood addicition. A taste every so often can be arousing. But that's me.
I believe that most addictions are a dependency, meaning in which you you can't stand anything else, I believe that it is very possible to be addicted to blood, even if it is highly unlikely
I honestly believe , that any addiction to blood would be purely in the mind of the addict. Blood doesn't really hold anything that could cause a dependancy, At most all your body could really get is the iron in the blood. And to much of that could be harmful.
I am not sure it can be explained to anyone htat has not been addicted to something.. for me it was codine my docs gave me for years. But my need for blood is not the same. It can be sort of like it. But I CAN do without blood... it just had nasty side effects. But an addiction is much worse on you and .. the hunger for the thing is different.
Not nessessarily that you cannot stand anything else necrokid, but that you do not want anything else. Addiction to any thing is a constant. Like alcohol, blood may just be an intoxicant to those of whom have tried it, it may have brought them certain levels of satisfaction.
i would not say im addicated to blood,, i do enjoy the taste and use it for riturals
some people who are addicated to it ,, it could be a fetish,, many things are fetishes then addiction
I guess a person could be addicted to blood, but that does not make a person a vampire, i think that a lot of people gets into drinking blood because they want to be a vampire, and they could probably get addicted but i do not think it is one of thoes things where if they do not get blood they start getting sick or die...
I think though, Soulshroude, that would be a psychological dependancy rather than a physical dependancy like codine or alcohol. The body becomes so used to the product within the body that certain receptors on the cells will accept no substitute and the person could potentially die as a result of withdrawal. In psychological dependancy cases, such as adrenaline junkies, the body can still survive without the product.
If that's the case with any "addicted" blood drinkers, then yes - it's definitely possible to be addicted to blood. I, myself, have grown quite fond of my own.
I guess that would depend wolfsbohne on whether or not you eat candy or vegetables, as one is sweeter than the other, lol.
Differant foods cause the taste of blood to differ, like eating meat constantly thickens the blood, or eating candy sours it. Depends on your diet.
Could we then suggest that the most nutritional form of blood be from a pH balanced diet? Meat causing an acidic reaction within the blood may cause it to spoil, while too much sugar also sours it. If a person has a properly balanced diet, which should include more vegetables and roots than meat, to make their pH balance more appropriately within range of what humans are supposed to have, it may be more palatable to a blood addict.
Than it would seem as though which ever blood diet this addict takes in, what his blood flow would be like to survice said addiction. As in no way any blood is naturally nutritious, they would need other sustanance to survive as well as the blood itself.
This being said, is an addict to blood really addicted or is it as you stated, a psychological disorder.
Probably psychological disorder if the only reason was for taste.
Wolfsbohne, I don't think the addiction itself is genetic though I do think there can be a genetic link that makes one more susceptible to alcohlism. And the same could be true for any addiction.
We become addicted through use and a history of addiction in the family can certainly contribute.
Are a blood addiction and a blood obcession viewed as one and the same?
Good answer shadowfever, and I completely agree.
If that's the case, could blood drinking be viewed in the same light?
Yes, it could be viewed in the same light, with a major modification --- the stated preference for human blood rather than animal blood.
We're omnivorous creatures and the desire for blood and meat is built into our natures.
But the prohibition against cannibalism and taking blood from humans for personal consumption is so great, that it would have to be a powerful urge to overcome those cultural restraints.
Then it could be more of a gradual addiction - a cultural evolution if you will. The first generation, and possibly the following drinking the blood of animals lower on the food chain, and subsequent generations breaking that cultural boundry to humans.
Well, if you're not an actual vampire then I say it's mostly mental.
Because blood doesn't really taste all that good. It's bitter, tastes like iron. Perhaps it's an acquired taste.
I still say it only tastes good if you're a vampire.
In my case, I would say that there is a need for the feed, so to speak. THere is definately something there that I crave, and I can't deny it.
The amount doesn't have to be great, but it does have to be there. There are several ways this can be accomplished. I prefer a lancet device, as it is fairly painless, and does allow for a decent amount if handled right.
P.S. Leave your window open tonight! LOL
I do not believe that drinking blood (or bloodletting) makes you a vampire. For those who claim they are "addicted" to blood, it is in the mind. It is a mental addiction they don't want to give up. I used to do bloodlettings all the time. My friends and I would feed from eachother. We didn't beleive we were vampires, only that it was a rush. It made us feel so good to feed off oneanother and to bed fed off of.
This should be an interesting post. will wait a few hours
I think that if there is an addiction it is just a psychological addiction rather than a physical addiction. I think that there are certain feelings and emotions that take place when someone drinks blood. Someone with an addictive personality could become addicted to the fact that feeding makes them feel different. A lot of people will do anything just to feel different or to hide feelings or emotions that they are having.
Thats a good point Gaius. It kind of reminds me of the people who cut themselves. Not as a cry for help, or to try and commit suicide, but to hide what they feel, to channel there emotions in a different direction. Completely different topic, I know. But you point just brought that one to mind.
I tend to agree that most addiction to blood would be psychological although that could manifest some physical traits of 'widthdrawl' if the addiction became great enough. However, the main difference is that little physical harm would happen from stopping the addiction. It's unlikely that one would experience true shakes, cold sweats, nausea or other symptoms of physical widthdrawl.
Most likely, widthdrawl from blood drinking as a psychological addiction would be similar to other psychological widthdrawls...mood swings or depression, feeling tired or weak, sleeping more than usual, and distraction from everyday activity.
for me my blood addiction comes from the demon alf not the vam half...as for others I can only speak about those that I know and I know a few sangs that are truue vamps
i dont have a addiction but i find this thread very intersting to learn and seek the knowledge of others
There are many tribes in Africa that drink the blood of there live stock to survive. So depending on where you live, and the environment will dictate if blood is required for survival. Also there is a pie, can't think of the name, that people make of blood in the US.
I often waver on my vampire status. I am utterly obsessed with blood, as much if not more the feel, sight and obtaining of it as the drinking of it. The urge is so incredibly powerful that some days I can't think of anything else. I have felt this way for about 30 years but I still find it hard to actually admit the vampirism.
Just because u like blood it does not necessarily make u a vampire
i believe it depends on HOW you are addicted to blood, not how MUCH you are addicted.
I don't think there is a possible REAL addiction to blood. Maybe in your mind but I don't think your body could start going into withdrawels if you stopped drinking it.. which I would not personally do it myself (drink blood).
having an addiction to blood is no different than any other addiction, other than simply, it is blood... some people have addictive personalities and have addictions to almost everything... why would blood not be subject to their addictive personality? the need for blood is different...
I think it just makes people a bunch of crazy blood lovers. =D
so those who crave drugs is just like those who are blood drinkers and crave blood ?
It makes them all crazy blood drinkers. Which I guess would make them vampires.
Ashtrid - there is a very real difference between psychological and physical addiction. With physical addiction, the cells in your body adjust themselves to accept the foreign entity in preference to a natural one. Such is the case with Morphine, Dopamine, Nicotine, Alcohol, etc.
I don't believe blood can be a physical addiction. It might exist in the mind, be a mental or emotional addiction...A side effect to a mental disorder, perhaps.
i dont think it makes you a real vampire
some crave neeed caffeine, some crave need food, drugs ect ect
those crave blood
hmm here an idea
you know there is a Diet book written about blood types. ...So I'm wondering about people with certain blood types and their need for blood. That would be interesting to find out if there might be a link?
I don't think you can be addicted. If so then I am addicted to food and water. I need them to live. The only way you truly need this to survive, is if it is a medical condition.
the frist time i drank blood i didnt like it then i did it again and i like it and i do it some time not all the times...
Just because you're addicted to blood doesn't mean you're a vampire. Thats like saying you're a fish just because you're addicted to swimming.
I'm not one of those people..but I don't really think drinking blood makes you a vampire...
Now if you could live off blood alone...I'd believe it but everyone is after all human its only a craving to them I don't think there are any true vampires.
I think that being a vampire today is a lifestyle. There are people that live the dark vampire lifestyle a hundred percent of the time but do not drink blood. On the other hand there are people living in cabins in the middle of nowhere that live off of raw meet and blood alone. These folks are not vampires but just interesting, sometimes scary people. I honestly believe that in our society being a vampire is just a lifestyle choice.
I would not say it is any kind of addiction. Just something that I like a bit.
ok now ive heard why people drink blood and now i hear there is addiction....
whats in some one elses blood to make you addicted to it.. maybe its there energy with in the blood ? who no's, some one tell me..please.
no that alone does not make you a vampire
i am not addicted to blood but the taste is very.....refreshing
what does your stomach feel like after you have drank a glass full of blood..?
for me is fell like when you i the cold for a long time then you drink something really warm
like a non-burning fire
Well honestly I believe that it is just something you like. Maybe it does or maybe it doesn't, but we do not depend on blood to keep up alive we depend on other things too.
You are taking science and mixing it with theology. Whether or not you believe vampires exist. Leaving it to your mind that only if someone can live off blood alone, then vampires exist.
I am not here to tell you what to think. but i will give you my opinion.
Blood can be physically addictive. however the psychological addiction is more likely.
I for one am not addicted to blood but i do partake occasionally.
I however require other peoples energy to survive. Blood provides the most purest form. hense how people can be addicted.
i see where blood could become addictive but for me i just crave it because i need the energy within it.
im not addicted, i dont even drink blood i only frink it if its dripping down the back of my throat from having a blood nose
I think it just means you like it doesnt make you anything
Well SpazTastic if I understand your stance on this you are claiming the energy in blood makes it addictive. Feeding off of the energy in the blood makes you body dependent on it to, survive thus addiction.
In this case the addiction could be satisfied simply by psychic feeding. Theoretically because the blood is merely a carrier bypassing the carrier & retraining the body to accept the raw energy instead.
im not addicted to blood but every time i get cut i lick it . you have ti get rid of it somehow ..................
I like the idea of it being genetic.. perhaps that is why to some blood tastes metallic and undesirable, and to others it tastes like an expensive piece of meat.
I dont know about being addicted, but i think most of us get some kind of craving. Some more intense than others.
Or it could be a bunch of nut cases that have no real life. There is no need to drink blood. Period. Fantasy rules again!
Of course there's no NEED to do it. I do it because i enjoy it. Nothing more.
I don't think being addicted to blood makes one a vampire necessarily. I think that it could be constituted as a fetish as well.
i am dont sure but for some i would say its just the primitive side of you body and mine tryen to collect what stuff it needs that you are leaven out of your diet , like iron , and nutrients . i say it dont make you a freak , just in tuned with you body , so like cook your steaks a lil less
I don't think there is a blood addiction, maybe a blood obesession. I have also never been convinced there is a 'need' beyond any normal need for it - like what's pumping through your veins :)
Just because you are addicted or "obsessed" with drinking blood, that doesn't make you a "vampire".
There are a lot of people out there that drink blood for various reasons and don't claim to be vampires. You'll find that most reasons people drink blood is mainly for the energy.
I can't say that I am addicted to blood.
No, uh uh. However, I am addicted to cigarettes. Those damn fuckers!
Right, they don't claim to be a vampire, they claim to be a blood drinker.
i do not know about others i am sang i feed off blood that is where it starts and that is where it ends
Blood Addiction by many beings is not just metaphysical but physical. Once someone becomes accustom to drinking blood their bodys biocompatibility requires blood because of calcium phosphate deficientcies and some beings have other medical conditions that causes the addition or need.
drink the blood of a crack addict And you will deffinatly get addicted to that persons blood..J/K...point being if its possibe to become addicted to blood i would guess its somthing in the blood that you are getting that you cannt get by any other means.....like hemoglobine (the stuff that carries oxygen)
i'd say that what is addictive is the fact that you're feeding off other's life... since blood is life... is what keeps you alive...
that makes the blood drinking so alluring...
Good post raine I would to agree with you regards the allure of it. It is a powerful feeling to feed off anothers life force.
In my opinion, blood addiction comes from more than just the blood itself. The blood can arouses them sexually and at other times it has a calming effect on them. The addiction comes from the feeling they get from the whole act, not just the blood.
If you crave blood, then you are definitely a blood fiend. However not all blood fiends are vampires. Some people drink blood because they are addicted to the taste. Vampires are addicted to the taste and they need the energy from it to survive.
I am not addicted to blood but this has been a fascinating thread.
A vampire needs blood to survive.
I got this from wikipedia.
"Also, blood is truly vital for vampires, because they can only have so much blood in their body and they continuously spend it to heal injuries, use their powers or even simply to make their dead body move. When a vampire does not have any more blood in its body, it falls into torpor and cannot be reanimated unless someone feeds it with blood or a period of time has passed. This period ranges from a few days to several years, depending on the individual vampire's humanity - a measure of how much the vampire has retained of his former self and how much he has given in to his "inner beast"."
An addiction to blood is merely psychological. Your body does not require you to ingest blood to live or function.
You have people who like blood and you have people who don't thats how it will always be..
i dont think drinking blood makes you a vampire, anymore then eating a banana makes you a monkey!
in todays society the drinking of blood would be seen as being insane, however, back in the days when TB and syphillus were high, people often believed that drinking blood would help cure their ailment.
i have NO fucking idea.
i use the word vampire cause there is no other word for what i am in the english language. if you have any ideas please feel free to let me know. i would love to hear it...
I have an addiction to blood because I need the life force from it, otherwise I have spells where I get tired a lot. After I have fed I feel great for quite a while. It is this plus a combination of other things that has led me to know that I am a vampire.
Rev. Ravyn
Chevalmike, I have to agree with you...........just because you drink blood doesn't mean you're a vampire...........being a vampire is much more than that
Blood addiction?
Sounds better than a heroin or cocaine addiction, but still - is any addiction healthy?
How exactly does one get addicted to blood? That seems impossible to me - more of a psychological thing than an actual addiction.
