Do you come to these forums to find information about vampires in art and myth, or for the modern human vampire topics?
I came here because I am a long time fan of fiction and legend. I don't like to blur the line of fantasy and reality though. I am always clear as to the terms I speak.
Some people seem to hate to talk about fiction, even if it is stated as fiction... like it is just a big waste of time. If that's true, so would our database be ;) As it is chockfull of fantasy. Some people only want to talk about the occult topics. Well... I guess it's good to have spice.
What do you look for in this forum? If you don't find it, do you create it? Do you realize both sides of the coin are valid?
I come here to learn more about different vampire myths from many different countries. Every country has a different myth and/or a different version of the 'vampire' therefore making learning about them very informative.
I may not believe in the existence of what I seek to learn more about, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to learn more about them.
I look for information on people that live a vampire lifestyle and why they do it as well as people that believe in the paranormal. I came here to understand peoples belief systems and why thy believe it.
I believe fictional vampires are just that fictional, but it is fun to discuss them, just as you would discuss any other works of fiction.
i come for information and chat with some people. but mainly cause its part of the leveling process here on vr
I am a great lover of fantasy and science fiction.
I confess to being unable to think of any original questions to ask as the topics are quite limited.
For the most part I enjoy reading posts which show diversity and imagination.
I rarely post in the general forum, but I do enjoy visiting to read individuals views, genuine discussions or debates as many individuals exhibit a wealth of knowledge concerning topics. I find this insightful, regardless of my own personal beliefs.
However, I will add that leveling up in the general forum for the purpose of status advancement with “yeah I agree” bugs the life outta me. I think the sandbox is a more appropriate forum for that :P
I've always been fascinated with myth and legend. They are all great stories and I find them entertaining.
It's always interesting to see other people's points of views on things and everyone's going to be different in some aspect, that's what makes the stories so interesting and fun, even if some stories are blown out of proportion, lol.
There are occasional good links and information here, but not enuf to wade through a lot of nonsense.
I think every person on vr with a semblance of an outside life has got to ask themselves at some point --- wtf?
Many have answered that question by staying away from the Forum, but when they occasionally post, it's usually interesting. I think they must have blown their forum wad in 2006.
Aside from the scant information, what we get is a lot of opinion. Therefore, what I derive --- over time --- is a sense of personality of some posters.
For now, that's sufficient because my imagination can make up the rest.
I come here to read all of the different opinions and to perhaps voice my own. I like to read about anything having to do with Vampires and the supernatural so I really don't seek out one specific thing.
Sometimes I learn something new and sometimes I just get a good laugh.
I come here to learn things, get all kinds of Info, meet people and have really good debates about fiction and non - fiction. I love these forums..... I escape to VR it is my personal haven :)
i come here to see other opinions than my own. I like to know that some people think differently than myself.
I come here to see many perspectives on many things. I love to see how peoples minds work. So many thoughts form many points of views. It's amusing and enlightening all at the same time. I don't take anything from the forums except that which I choose to absorb. Some info is helpful and some is just filler.
I've loved fantasy and fiction from the time I can remember. I remember picking up Edgar Allan Poe's "The Telltale Heart" when I was seven (after being told not to read it), and being scared sh*tless. LOL Of course, then I couldn't say, "I'm scared," because I wasn't supposed to have read it. ;) I've always been fascinated by the darker side, because, for me, it provides a personal balance to my Dayside. This also comes out in my writing, which DOES blur the boundaries between what is real and what is fiction...but I know the difference in my own head. I love to learn new things about old mythologies -- but I also appreciate learning about the modern subculture, and I have found...new ways of thinking...about my own ways of life...which are helpful. The occult threads are interesting, too. I have yet to start my own discussion, because there's always so much here to read and comment on.
I look for subject that interest me...
and I do seem to find alot to read learn and understand...sometimes I have to start a tread but mostly the tread I want is already say...
fact and fiction are both valid to me...
I came here to learn the different mindsets of people when it comes to Fictional and the scene life.
I take this and use what I most identify with and what I feel can further my personal education.
i came to this forum searching for kindred souls. i believe vampireism is a natural fact. while fiction is nice and entertaning we are surrounded in every day life with the chosen. but is it real? or is it fiction? as inlightened indivinuals we decide. is there two sides to the coin of course. but that whats makes life a chalange to decided what we believe truth or fiction. you decid?
i came here mainly to know more about the vampire myth of different places around the world... being here led me to know some friends from very different cultures where vampires are creatures that still are part of their History... and on the other hand, i came here to find people like me, with same interests...
psychvamp, how do you know who the chosen are and who is enlightened? Who makes that distinction and why?
I look for more of my kind, to help and meet others like me.To feel some sort of belonging.
NocturnisOrchid, how do you know they are of your kind?
I came to the forum to help me understand things Im not sure and to be open minded and read other people points of views even if the differ to mine.
I share a similar fascination of vampires and the supernatural as with most people here. The forums are an interesting avenue to understand and ponder over things that you usually don't hear or see just anywhere. Sometimes, I ask my own questions and other times, I share what I know.
In my view, these forums are set up fundamentally as a way to see if individuals are listening, as well as learning from others.
I came here for good reason, not for informative reasons, nor to see if there are others out there...These two reasons have more than obvious answers.
Nay, as above stated, to get individuals to pay attention, from thread after re-iterated thread...To come to a conclusion that is less than ignorant about the ideals of a psychological impact of the eclectic mind as per the realm of the society we live in.
I see the forum as a place for members to share with others what they believe. Some of the threads seem to draw me into them to post my own perspective on the topic, others seem to be too sophmoric or not interesting enough to me to add my two cents worth. I read many more topics than those in which I post.
i come here to see how others relate to othere intrest others may ot may not have and to chat giggles..
I come for both. I am always open to hearing new points of view on things. Whether it be hearing new legend and lore or hearing something about non fiction. I think both sides of the coin are valid. I love fantasy so I do like that side of things, but like said, I am open to hearing about the reality of things as well.
I created a thread like this once before. Because I think it is important for our varying reasons for being here on VR to be pointed out and regarded as VALID. Just as some people aren't interested in fiction, I am bored with a lot of modern human vampire threads.
I only honestly believe a select few on this site when it comes to their being, so, too many of these threads turn into debates on who really knows what they are talking about or not. Sometimes it's good to just have conversation about common ground. No need for research, but talking about what's on your mind, simply.
i come to the forum to learn all that i can about everything i can
fiction i used to hate the thought of it but nowadays i am more open minded i like starwars and would love to go to a fiction vampire sci-fi convention now those would be some interesting characters..
i come to the forums mostly for entertainment purposes but i do find to much that there are closed minds as everyone thinks they are the only one who is right and that the next person is wrong lol
sometimes i feel both sides of the coins are wrong but hey thats just me.
Well BloodxXxOverDose, I would hope you are open to some fiction... you are using Dracula as your avatar :P
I like other people's view points. It gives me much to think about and with a open-mind...I like when people do share their myth and what they believe in. I like both fiction and non-fiction. especially the non-fiction of the paranormal. It amazes me how many of us do have in common and how many of us are accepting of the other people's beliefs. It is all a learning process.
I come to the General forum to see what kind of topics are being discussed.
I am intrigued by the supernatural and all things the human mind cannot explian. I think the facts and fiction of the supernatural world are fascinating in their own little way.
It is interesting to me, the questions that people ask and the answers that they receive. It makes for a delightful conversation some times.
My personal reasons for spending time in the forum are for discussion. I like taking different sides of a topic and exploring the different options and from there taking a perspective shift. It is being able to take a look and then seeing more detail that sparks my interest.
I came here for a pretty specific reason...which, oddly enough, is the same reason I keep going to church every week, and everything I can say about it is exactly what I would say about going to church. Hah!
I feel drawn. I don't always like what is said, so either I keep my discontent to myself, or, if the particular issue is important to me in some way, (or if I'm bored) I voice my discontent. A lot of the time in these cases I only worry about offending people when I've already said what I had to say...which is why I tend to try to keep my mouth shut. (Good God, I asked my bible study teacher where the decoder ring is that tells us what to take literally in the Bible and what not to a few days ago. *turns red, slaps self* Thank God she said I didn't offend her.)
But I keep coming. There's some pretty fundamental reasons why I do, for each...but in the end, it is simply that I feel drawn.
I already responded to these queries in another thread on much the same topic, but these questions were a bit more specific.
I came to VR to find out about how those who exist within the bounds of the 'real living vampire' concept operate, how the social structures work, the different personality types that can grow out of the choice to call ones self a 'vampire'.
But at the same time, I find the mythical/fictional representation fascinating, both as a reflection upon the cultural ideal which people subscribe to, and as a source material for the sub-culture to assimilate and grow with (or not).
In the forum, I like to see well thought out ideas, presented in an understandable and cohesive manner, which lend me to ask questions for myself.
It's a rare find to come across anything of particular interest in terms of my personal goals, but after years of looking for those with answers to the most burning questions, I realise that I will not find them among the members here, so I refrain from creating new threads just for the sake of it.
I much prefer to wait in hope that someone with the greater knowledge comes along, to show that there are people with skill and experience who are willing to impart it to those who genuinely require guidance.
Every position in an argument is valid, but the separation of discussions into those which focus primarily on the known fantasy, and those which want to explore the potential reality is much needed.
Just because some are fed up with the attempts to discuss the topic of 'human living vampires', does not discredit the topic. Equally as many are likely bored with the continual regurgitation of the fictional.
What concerns me personally, is when those who act with assumed authority attempt to pass themselves off as experts, and intertwine the absolutely fantastical with the real. They are sycophants and have the potential to harm, under the guise of mentorship.
Some might call this a bluff to keep the masses off of the trail of those who live life according to the desires and needs of the vampiric state, but really, they are self-serving agendas designed to bolster popularity and status within a virtual environment, where the lines between truth and a lie are constantly blurred.
It seems like a lot of people are bored. I think those people need to create the threads they want to see :)
As long as people are clear on the topics they want to discuss, then no blurring should happen. Clarity is just hard to find around here at times.
Lagniappe.....I agree. Things shouldn't be brought up because it is an OMFG thing for the minute. It should be brought up to inform and allow others to express there opinions.......that is just my opinion.
I am intrigued about the folklore and all things fiction of vampires, I can't imagine it being anything else other than that.
I usually post in forums when I have some thing to say
i just look for something interesting. i dont really care if its fact or fiction
A bell I ring the blurring of things and those that do it are bored they have nothing original but the OMFG will be beat like a punching bag. Topics based on fiction, with the attached claims (baited threads) have made discussions, into them vs us. I would like to role play these us vs them in a unique way, however it is not plausible because the people that do them are usually not very imaginative, and base everything on shallow fictious resources. If they bring something imaginative and present it in a clear way then I can Play Make Believe with the best of them. But I will not be duped into Wowing another persons awe crew.
I come here to learn more about things I dont really know much about. I also come here to talk to new people.
i come here to search for aything that i can find
in regards to the vampire legacy whether fact or fiction
I must say it is refreshing to see new material in the forum instead of the repeat threads :)
I go into everything hoping to learn more. I also like to read what others think and get other viewpoints that may differ from my own.
Sometimes the discussion itself is entertaining. I don't really rely on the forums for factual information.
It really does help the discussions when individuals open up a can of worms concerning certain threads, thus causing a bit of heated debates...Which are good at times. Or answering certain topics with all to obvious answers that the individual knows, just to keep the threads going. Answering a question with a question for the same reasons as stated above.
it may seem a bit ignorant, but how else is society supposed to learn? Nothing like floundering about at random. I would rather debate on a discussion without merit, rather than standing around like a knob.
I am here for any and all things related to vampires,no matter the information,I am always gathering knowledge of such.
i am a gatherer of information. that's why i come to the Forums.
i get knowledge and yes i do feel darkness inside..it is hard to explain sometimes....
It is fun to learn about the history of "vampires". I love all that there is to know, and all that still can be learned from others that feel the need to share their knowledge of them. Does that mean one cannot be or see themselves as "vampyres" ?
Truth is what a person makes of it. If they believe hard and long enough then to them it will be truth. If they don't believe does that make them anymore wrong?
I dont see anything wrong with trying to get as much information as possible. I do on the otherhand find myself drawn to the modern day theories. Nothing wrong with a fictional thread as well.. Gets the creative juices flowing and I can say I look for authors of the thread. Some here just look a bit deeper on the questioning and the answers or opinions they search for.
I come here to read what is being said and to learn about others.
i come cause i can::: not many ppl think about this stuff and i like to read about it.
I come to the forums to firstly level (selfish I know) and secondly to learn.
Every so often a topic pops up that peaks my interest and I will learn from it.
Many of us are here to level :P So we need a discussion we can get involved in, in order to post to it :) We have to create what we're not finding.
Many times I come to the forums searching for answers to random questions I may come up with. There have been times that I have learned, and other times when I have wished I kept my mouth shut. I still try to learn though no matter what. :D
And sometimes we come just to hear what someone will say next :P Don't know why we're still surprised by what we find here. (Not everyone is surprised).
I come for both actually but lean towards the olders aspects to vampyrism, although any knowledge I can receive is very appreciated.
I personally believe the older myths are more magical with more truths behind them than modern day vampyrism.
But then again I believe in almost anything.

I think thats why most people most in the Forums [aside from leveling of course] ;].
Well, that's different :) Glad the activities are building the membership!
Originally I came here to get involved in the lively conversations about vampires and related fields, that once were plentiful in the General Category of the Main Forum, in the hopes of learning something new. It's unfortunate that those conversation threads that were so popular or abundant a few years ago, are few and far between nowadays.... But there's hope yet, I believe!
I miss the old days of Vamire Rave though...
I truly get a kick out of reading other people's perspectives on the subject of anything paranormal. It gives my own thought process a spin (sometimes) and I use it in my own writing. It also makes me a little nervous (if not hysterical with laughter) to read how many people blur the line between fact and fiction and the the level of desperation that goes into it!
I love any subject that leaves room for conjecture and morbid discussion (I;m kinda twisted that way), but I can't say I have been "living the lifestyle". I come here and read, not because I get to POWER UP on my level LOL, but to read something imaginative and, preferably, disturbing...
Camp fire tales are great for around campfires. But the challenge to be original is notable.
I come here to the Forum to learn about Vampires and all other types of topics. However, if I can think of a good topic to post then I will and get other opinions on them
Just as I love to debate over architecture and great works of art, I also love to debate and discuss fictional literature. Unfortunately, most dont take the time to read the basis of the thread, and you wind up being flamed or put down for the discussion of it.
I also like to discuss and debate the many different types of myths, legends, and lore surrounding the Vampiric figure. Though generaly, the most I get are one sentence repsonses.
Unfortunately, I see more and more posts surrounding paganism and witchcraft then I do about vampires - which is what I thought this site was about.
Now I seldom post in the general forum unless someone has started a rare topic about.... Vampires. Which is getting fewer and far between.
I come to this site and these forums for one reason and one reason alone...to find like-minded people. People that society say are a "little off", people that are not afraid to truly be themselves for better or worse, and who are not afraid to push the envelope. The world is so full of closed minded people that it is no wonder we are always at war with ourselves. If we could simply open our eyes and see that the only way to be happy and to have reasons to make friends is INDIVIDUALITY!
I like to come into the forums because of the different views that everybody have of vampires. It gives me new ways to think of vampires.
I would say that I read more threads than I acually post in.
If I'm passionate about something that has been said then yes I will post but the temptation to post for the hell of it because we need to level does come into mind too.
There was a time when I would have been too embarrassed to ask a question and instead I would privately pm someone ... and that can be more fruitful for information than posting just to level.
I just want to add that posting in a thread that has been opened by someone responsible means you have more chance of that thread getting RIPed, regardless of the subject matter.
For some it's hard not to 'blur' fact from fiction. So there posts will remain relatively safe in these threads.
Well I have always been interested in the occult and to find a place where it is the main subject of most conversations. Hell why not wouldn't you want to be in a place where you enjoy the topics
Allgenre, I agree with you. I wish there were more of a vampire focus in the Vampire Rave General Discussion section. But I think that after a few years... the threads were just WAY more repetitive than they are now. Cancer had to give a little leeway for discussions. Some people unfortunately have made those other topics their VR focus now :(
I find that some people on here do seriously blur the lines of fantasy and reality, and speak of fiction as if it were real. That's bad in my opinion.
I come to these forums to seek out the odd interesting topic and give my thoughts and educated guesses. I like to find people on here willing to get involved in a proper discussion that actually makes you think.
i actually like the fact that people will take opposing sides here in the forum because it allows you to see both sides and expand your mind. being open-minded is important.
I come here for insite...to learn as much as i can....I am inspired every time i read the forums....although I have yet to post my own..( In time )
i come because i am intrigued by everyones stance on the paranormal and mystical things
I come here to indulge in my own fantasy. This is a place for me to escape into a world that lives within me.
I came here mostly to chat, and find people with common interests. I do gravitate more towards the occult aspect of vampirism, but the fictional side is interesting as well.
I came because I have always hoped that vamps are real and have always wanted to learn more about all supernatural occurences.
My freinds dad works as a haunt inspector and I here all kinds of crazy stories and want to know if it is possible. This place helps to connect me with the stories.
I came here with an interest in vampires and have learned a great deal... and meeting the people that I have is what has kept me here (I met my wonderful boyfriend here).
I come here to add my two cents to the 2 dimes & 6 nickles already left by others. I like to think that I have something to offer.
I have been here a short time and have learned many new tings about vampires also other things but here to learn more about the vampire world.
I came here for learning. And I don't mind talking about fictional things. I am a very opened minded person. :)
I must admit, the forum never fails to amuse me or intrigue me especially when we discuss vampires! I think if there ever was such a being as a Vampire, it is just not going to let us know!
And there's always someone new that comes in and hits the forum hard with their unique perspective :) Too bad it never really lasts.
Wow, what a question to answer...
I am here #1 for information on the Gothic Cruise. The Rave is the central hub on all things involved with the cruise.
Once I got on, I got hooked by the site, the mystical, vamp, and Gothic discussions and the people.
Some of the vampire information is interesting and somewhat useful, since my wife is a huge vampire reader, so it helps to have some ideas when talking with her.
While I let my blood bags thaw from the freezer..I have to do something Vampiric in the mean while..Ya know?
LOL...Just kidding.
Interaction and boredum is why I'm here.
Opinion sharing..Yeah A.X74 I want to add my 2 cents too :P
One persons facts is anothers fiction.
I'm here to exchange ideas and perchance meet others of a like mind.
Well I'm also on Vf and i found that boring... When I found VR though it seems that in here people look like they want to talk and share infos or simply to talk... but i dont really seek something particulary on here... im a geek LOL and proud of it...
Oddly enough, I originally found this site due to a comic. Blood and Water, by a lady who does a few others. Checked out the site a bit, and thought I would stick around a bit and see what I shared with others.
As can be seen by my post count, I rarely visit the forums in here, too much, bleh IMHO.
i come here to learn both myth and real world topics both have always made me curious so i try to learn about as much as i can about bits of everything, i have quite an open mind to the paranormal and stuff like that, but my mind is always open for more
Like a lot of the people who have posted before me... I come for both... the fact and fiction of it all... However it's the real thing that gets me the most... I wish there was a little more of the real though...
_Hrm...my vampire truth? well...I guess it's a mix of the human emotion with mystisism and ...I really don't know._
