Why do you think there are more women then men on VR, and why do you think more women are in to magic and wicca then men?

Do you think it has to do with women being more open minded?

I hope to hear your thoughts on this.

Because statistically speaking, it is the most predictable thing to occur, since the world is unbalanced in that sense "gender scale", as for magik and wicca practitioners..I think most of the people that claim to practice something of those sorts in here are NOT, one thing is what you SAY and another is what you DO; is just sheer surface, most of them might not even know what they are doing, since a large percent of the girls in here are under '18' for instance. As for the "open mindness", that doesn't have anything to do with gender, more like personality and the individual raising/development.

A succinct summarization, Dab, almost a slogan, but please take it a step further:

Why are more women religious and/or spiritually inclined?

I'm not 100% sure what the answer is, but I don't think the number has to do with the ratio of women to men.

Often religiosity has more to do with oppressed people (at least in it's beginnings), and/or POWER.

Women may make up the vast number of congregants, but it's the men who head the orders, except maybe when it comes to Wicca, and the dark arts (not sure about this cause the media embraces the male dark practitioners).

But on VR, there is ample room for females to rise to Sire, start their own covens, etc.

Well you not going to get the same answer from everyone that is for sure. as for my opinion on why women are more inclined to follow the old ways, I know for myself it was the goddess aspect the love of all things in nature and seeing the beauty with in everything and not just looking at the shell.

I think that statement needs to be divided up into two things.

1- Internet.

2- Reality.

I am sure if you were to go out and actually take a poll you'd see a lot of men are wiccan/pagan.

Some people in the Internet will say and do things just to fit in. So they will ramble on about their Paganism/Wiccanism just because it means they have a place to fit in even though they have no clue what it really entails.

Then there are the other's who choose to not share their belief because of consequences. It could take a toll on their job, friends, etc. Not everyone is open minded to a 'New Age" religion.

I came here to meet Edward Cullen before Edward Cullen was cool, Dylan so shut it. :P

And Dab- I could kick you for that comment since I am of that gender!

To put it lightly, I think I can sum it up in one word..."Loneliness."

I will not summarize what this one word means, since most of the "ladies" on this site may tend to feel a bit insulted by my assumption...Let them, such is the way of life.

More women tend to turn toward Gothic lifestyles and magic(k)s, truth be told because they may find themselves lonely and wish for a mysterious conduit where they see themselves as some what more "beautiful" mayhaps.

I will not turn this into a politically natured approach so I will stop here. Just giving my two cents on how I notice the opposite sex carry on through life on a psychological level.

End phrase..."What women want, even Freud had trouble figuring this out."

Another angle is whether the female socializes through their preferred craft.

Males I know tend to be personal in preferred practices, ( to fill idle moments perhaps) but males socialize less through spiritual matters.

My earlier post ( though tongue in cheek) has supporting observation.

Ok, I was drawn to witchcraft because I had a problem with everything I was being told about the bible , it read like fiction to me , Why should a woman be subservient to a man when its the woman who has the child , she is the giver of life.I started when I was 10 and am not 46 , it had nothing to do with loneliness ,my life is my own and I have final say in my house we live as equals in all things. we do not look at witchcraft as just magic it is a religion to us that we live daily ,notice I do not say wicca , that is because wicca was made up from Mr. Gardner . ours is much older.

http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/mysticism/#9 for a discussion of Mysticism, Religious Experience and Gender.

Some excerpts:

Contemporary male philosophers treat mysticism as most centrally a matter of the private psychological episodes of a solitary person.

Typically, the view states, men understand theistic experience as a human subject encountering a being wholly distinct, distant, and overpowering. The mystic is “submerged and overwhelmed” by his own nothingness. This approach, it is claimed, is . . . entrapped in issues of domination, atomicity, and submission.

Female mystics tend to deny the dichotomy between the holy and the creaturely. . . and stress the immanent (existing within) nature of mystical experience. They bring to prominence women's experience of the holy in their fleshly embodiment . . .

BM: That fleshly embodiment thing goes well with VR.

For one, there are more females than males in general and I honestly think women are more open to it in many ways. As far as loneliness, hahaha...there are a lot of lonely men out there too, young and old. I don't think it is relevant but it is a good place to meet people. Maybe bored would be a better word. Most of the famous people in the occult are males. It is not that the women don't exist it is that they usually aren't noticed unless they make themselves noticed. There are only two women I know of that get mentioned around magick a lot and that is Doreen Valiente and Jaq D. Hawkins but there are a slew of men. Jaq D. Hawkins is brilliant. Even in Wicca that modern movement is attributed to a male, and one of the people who writes about it and publishes online a lot is Mike Nichols and there you have it, another male. When I was actively mixing with spiritualists, I saw just as many males as I did females. I think it is a misperception of the media.

All congregations are made up of people socializing under pretense, I fond such people suffer inner conflict, caused by tethering to multiple beliefs, and socially spreading themselves to thin with comitment.

I"d have to agree with mooniepie.
There are men however that practice the "Arts" , (what ever word you like to apply here), I just believe when it comes to the concept, it highly relates to the terminology "Witch" in which case has been miss concepted as percieving women as "Witch" in practice, instead of "Wizards" or "Warlocks" for the male practitioner. Thus flocking more woman to be attracted to the theory.
And yes there are far to many who like to proclaim they are and know absolutely nothing pertaining to its origins, and practice.
The younger generations relate to "Goth" and the "Cool" personna far too much, in claiming to be a "Witch" or "Wiccian".

perhaps you assumed people thought you where weird, or you idealized yourself as being weird.

Odd how midwivery is not mentioned. Yet isn't it common for people to assume all witchcraft is centered around mysticism, and arcana.

The whole theme has been so boshed, that most who practice avoid identifying themselves, so many people are professing to be witches, just to be popular, and to make matters worse they imfuse other religions ( sometimes conflicting religions) into
Their DIY beliefs.

If a person truely practiced any craft, they would know why woman are so suited for the practice.

Where to start on this can of worms?

Okay, first...because this sticks in my head the clearest of what I am reading. The bible is a book. The person reading it has to take into consideration that it was written about a man who never actually lifted the pen. Therefore, it is clouded with the oppinions of the person writing it. Furthermore, it is hand copied for generations and eventually re-written by the church. If you really read it, there are contradictory elements within it. How can a man with long hair and a robe who was practically 'born in a barn' say you should be thrown out of a building for wearing makeup, cutting your hair, wearing pants, being homeless, etc.? You have to read it with half an eye for the arrogant additions of men. Jesus loved everyone. Yes, even...and especially the repentant whore. I don't think he would care what you did as long as the intent behind it was not mean-spirited...and would forgive even that if you honestly grew to regret it.

Secondly, I know a great deal about Wicca, Witchcraft, Elements, etc. as I am avidly curious about every religion I come across. I was raised Christian and my father is a half-blooded Indian. I grew to understand the similarities between the two and the differences. I got older and more open-minded, so I branched out. All religions have a basic similarity with only superficial differences if you actually study them without bias.

I like Wicca because I like the Elements. Storms own my soul. I cannot resist going outside to be near it. The more wild the storm; the more stupid I get over them. It is an compulsion from deep within me. When I was 6 my father had to literally run outside and yank me out of a tornado because I was walking into it in facination. Fear never entered my mind. I have since learned a healthy respect for lightning.

You are right on the male/female ratio. Common fact of life: there are more women.

My father is just as spiritually diverse and devout as I am so I wouldn't really say men and women are too different on that. I haven't noticed if they are.

I have probably forgotten something I wanted to say...

Oh, yes...I have something. As much as I like Edward, Dylan...I would much prefer Alice and Jasper, so your theory sucks....*sticks tongue out and snickers*

That's a likely excuse!

But in regards to the thread, you cannot forget to add in all the profiles that have 'unspecified' set as the gender. Although even with those there will still be more women on here, possibly because many are more open minded than some males are.

Alright...I re-iterate my half witted response from being "lonely" to just plain "bored."

As well as a fast fact that most of the adolescent "ladies", seem to hover toward the dark and gloomy gus's that roam the dark alley ways because they like the mysterious "gentleman" types.

This goes for the Rave as well. Not speaking about the more mature women of the Rave mind you, but the teeny boppers that oft times fantasize about poor mister Cullen.

Just because the theme is vampire related, some may just think that they may end up meeting one and be swept off to never land?

Or simply spend quality time researching why they took on the lifestyle of "put stereotype here."

The esoteric matter I believe to be a very good response to this thread. As more women are very much intune with the energies as well as more sensitive, this does not mean the male species has no "tuning fork" within themselves. It hones differantly within all individuals regardless of gender.

thanks for re-iterating your statement souls, (this would've been an interesting discussion at home now wouldnt it, lol). Anyway, the ratio thing may stem from the fact that still in this day and age, women are very insecure, not all, but a majority. This due to the constraints society put on us as to what is beautiful, desireable, attractive, etc...in a woman. It becomes much easier to hide behind a computer for the, lets say average or less than average woman, when they feel a bit on the inadequate side. don't take this the wrong way, but i think a lot of people, male and female alike come to sites like this one looking to create a comfort zone in which they can manipulate there persona enough to be comfortable in a social setting...even though it is only on-line, not face to face.

Because men are too busy building ships and aeroplanes and... micromanaging... climbing mountains........ wrestling with bears... than women and are therefore more distracted by real-world events.

Or it could be because men, on average, have more common sense than to get involved with this magick nonsense. Women are more gullible and will more easily get sucked in.

Or it could be that I haven't a clue and would rather ramble incoherently than stay out of the conversation entirely.

You might hold some truth, the female roll taboo in every house still very active and latent in todays society and household not so reinforced like in old times but still around, specially in Latin American contries: the man get the money and the woman raise the kids and clean the house, most adult programs are widely directed to female audience, love novels, soup, cooking channel, gardening, as for a great percent of things in stores are directed to children or women, since the female in general spend more than an average male on micellaneous sometimes unnecesary products.

I wouldn't say that they are into magik or computer websites because of it, but I guess it might hold a slight degree of the influence..and yeah some woman do get in here because they are lonely, and vigurously looking for a person with likehood. Some men are too but, I can say it's easier for man to not search desperatly because they are much more women than man in this planet, like atleast 3:1 and females are the ones more interested in the romantic aid of love in a relationship all the values they get in their love novels and programation of what a good
Man is..While average males standards mostly is inforced by another scale more superficial-, as for in VR the big amount of female, most is little kids searching for the " real vampire" or Edward Cullen like other highlighted here above.

It's not just VR though that have these kinds of issues.

Most men (but not all) tend to stick to things that keep them occupied more, more violent content, something with a little more male bonding so to speak. Not all men are into the "social" aspect of sites. They like something with more challenge and not so much of a standstill. Not all men like to be as social as women do.

There are men that tend to express their inner spirituality but it is not always their main focus in life as it would be for women.
Women are more in tune with their emotions, and care more about these things typically than a man would. We're just wired a little differently. Of course i'm not speaking for everyone.
I've seen the ratio difference on other websites were there are more women than men.

Well this matter is neither of gender nor of belief or loneliness.
The one who have time and economy to see other arts such as wicca they will go that way. In India there are maJORITY OF MALES fall in such arts and open their shops and even after this case wemen only is suffering pain of blame of spells casting over others, of witchcraft and punished everywhere...

I think that the majority of women are home more than men due to schedules with kids and such, therefore allowing them more time online. Women seem more likely to want to practice their beliefs openly than men. That is my personal observation.

I don't think gullability has anything to do w/it. There are plenty of males out there who are just as gullable and nonsensical. yes, men/women are definitly wired diferently and generally have a different way of seeing the world and how it works. But we still have the same focus as far as every day needs, ya know the commen sense shite that needs to be done. But as I stated before, society as a whole, thanks largely to media and marketing, has put a standard out there that is unrealistic for what a woman "should" be. It does affect greatly ones oppinion of themselves and the channels one turns to in there everyday life.

As of July 2007, the United States Central Intelligence Agency estimated the world's population to be 6,602,224,175 with there being 3,278,616,036 (49.66%) females & 3,323,608,139 (50.34%) males.

Many females are taking more dangerous roles in society and are expanding their abilities to handle any situation, especially the one's that were just thought to be for males. Females have realized that society has lied to them, not to protect them (as previously taught), but to inhibit their role in society. Thus, with this new information and the expansion of activities there are more females on this site.

I agree with ~Doru~ with his post. The "as previously taught" statement adequetely represents the role that officially plays within the anals of history. To brain wash both genders to think that they are differant from one another.

Men - Seem to be taught that they are ship builders, sports junkies, powerful made-men, with the color of blue as their representative.

Women - Seem to be taught the "weak house wife" position, that they are lesser then men, fragile at times, with the color of pink as their represntative.

Both of these facts in my opinion are completely false. As I know both genders are at times, the complete opposite.

Not to get too far off topic here, some females I have noticed tend to turn their attention to the darker side because it seems to have a more "seductive" appeal. As in, sexuality is a self important factor in letting the individual know that they are quite beautiful without the world telling them so. Gothic clothing, vampiress make up...The works.

While the men oft times go for the long hair, eye shadow, etc. Look for the same reason. I guess this would be the "self conscious indignation." I could be wrong.

As far as the Rave is concerned...There are more women on here, so I would like to know the reason why they joined for a more established perception.

Speaking only for myself, I didn’t come for the social. It is a wonderful bonus, but not what drew me to stay. I bought my accounts for a very different reason.

I will have to admit. I came here for the sole reason that I hated MySpace with a severe passion. It was wonderful upon its creation, but lost all appeal as Tom lost control of it in slow degrees. I got hate mail, and pervs day in day out. They wanted to marry me, cyber sex, web cam, nude photos, etc. I couldn’t read my mail for spammed junk and idiots everywhere I looked. I followed a friend here that had the same problems and was just as fed up with it as I was.

I stayed here even as he didn’t. I won’t get into details. I stayed not because of the social, so much as the system. It fascinates me. I love vampires, and always have. The mere mention of them sends tingles of delight throughout my body. I write stories. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. I draw. I am attracted to any knowledge I can glean about supernatural things, especially vampires and shape shifters (changelings, lycanthrope, etc.).

I bought my accounts here for a reason most probably wouldn’t understand. VR itself fascinates me. I loved the FAQ, the Status System, the Manual, leveling profiles…Some of my favorite games are because I like to level my characters more than play the story lines. I love the rules and restrictions. I love the concept of having my control taken from me and passed around like a little lost sheep…lol. I also like BDSM and S&M themes, so that could have a ground in why I like vampire hierarchy. I like working the pages to make them better and better. I knew coding before I got here, but VR has enhanced that and expanded it. I learn new codes every week and play with them for hours just seeing which way I can stretch them. Even if no one on VR speaks to me, I love it here. Silence is better than ignorance anyhow. Still, there are great people here. People I never would have known had I not stayed.

I like Bloody Feather too. The dripping quill is wonderful symbology.

I have to admit that the social aspect of vr has nothing to do w/me being here. I actually bought my acct just as a way for me and my significant other to have a common circle and means of communication. Our work schedules don't allow for us to really see each other, and he was a member here, so this was a place for us to chat and perhaps have a common circle of aquaintances. I have met some very nice people here, but don't really socialize much outside my coven.

**O' how I've missed you and your ideals Muerte**

I think it is kind of the lonliness factor especially with the younger teen girls on here.

Most of them feel socially rejected, or get lack of attention, or not as much attention as they would like to have.

Then they come here a place associated with vampires, magic, and people who are somewhat socially dysfunctional themselves.

So they make up an internet persona, everybody loves the persona, so they don't feel so lonely, or get the amount of attention desired.

If you met them in person, they probably would be an ENTIRELY different person than what they front.

This doesn't apply to everyone on here or even a majority.

It's not only teen girls. It's boys and adults too.

I reply:
My story might be a little different than others. Many, many years ago (probably close to 10 now), I had an email account through vampirefreaks.com. After years of not checking it, I went to see what the site was like - and it was this vampire themed social networking site. My husband and I thought it might be cool, so we joined. After just a few months, I got tired of the immaturity of the website and mentioned it. One of the other members suggested VR as it was a little more mature. So, I came here and I enjoyed it. And obviously, I stayed.

i think it is more to do with fiting in because women are told to stay out of most religons and wicca and others welcome women. i am talking as heads and leaders.
Also more freedom and that can lead to more trouble if you ask me but no one did so i stick my foot in mouth .
I think it is a type of thing that just happens because it is expected of women and not so much of men.
Most men dont have the time or the open minded ness to study the arts .

You let me at the end imp, some would take that as an insult. " open mind" is a generic term, what does open mind mean? Reasoning, and logic, placing
Ones beliefs in context. You are placing men and woman on a scale, and using what as a standard?

Scratch the more women than men theory. Appears to no longer be true (if it ever was).

Doru posted this above: As of July 2007, the United States Central Intelligence Agency estimated the world's population to be 6,602,224,175 with there being 3,278,616,036 (49.66%) females & 3,323,608,139 (50.34%) males.

Maybe the fact that women are more ituned with the supernatural persona of things. from the occult to myths and lore stories. Or the fact that they (sorry guys) seem to want to gain more knowledge of so many things that men usually lay false claim to. Some may say they are gullable, yet i think it hits on the other realm of knowledge being gained.

Why do you think there are more women then men on VR?

I tend to believe that women are more social than men, we like to chatter and converse. Also, vampires are trendy right now and much of the young females are drawn into that I think, the "movie swoon" as I like to call it. Plus as someone else pointed out, the female gender is more apt to be home in other roles besides the workplace.

Why do you think more women are in to magic and wicca then men?

Maybe its just that the men on this site do not care to divulge their religious beliefs, women in general are much more open regarding personal information from what I can see here.....

In regards to the term "open mind" and that some folks have difficulty in understanding what this term means, I offer this:

Open mind - Having or showing receptiveness to new and different ideas or the opinions of others.

Open mind is interchangeable with the term "broad minded" as well.

broad-minded - inclined to respect views and beliefs that differ from your own.

And for you "link please" people:

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/open-minded

Hopefully, this will help those who don't understand, misunderstand, or offer the wrong definition of the term open minded.

I myself am very open minded. That does not mean, however, that I am gullible, an idiot, or that my mind is clogged with too much information obscuring my rationale or logic. Regarding why there are more women on this site than men, my guess, and it is a guess, is that it has to do with the romantic pull perhaps that the idea of a vampire has held for women. I really don't honestly know.

However, it is not my reason. I found Vampire Rave by doing a search on my name. My name popped up in reference to a self portrait of mine that was being used here as a postcard. When I found it, and realized that this was a site started by Cancer whose IRC channel #Vampires was one of the first places I found online back in 1996 (and of which I was a regular), I couldn't help but join.

In other-words, I joined because my image was a postcard here, and I knew Cancer from "back in the day" on #vampires.

What I want to ask is where the original poster of this thread found the information that more women than men are into the occult, and wicca.

I respond with:

I am going to have to rebuttle the "vampires are trendy right now." with: Vampire have been in trend since the early 90's. The "young" ladies are drawn into the fringe because they find the lifestyle attractive. They tend to think that the vampires beauty may mirror their own and reflect it 100 fold.

Its not that I care not to divulge my religious beliefs on this site...I couldnt care less who knows that I am a polytheist. I think "Universalist" would be the better term here. Personal information is quite a differant matter...depending on what it is. Though I hardly think that the reason why magick and or pagan idiologies are the reasons why men are not drawn toward the esoteric practices.

I think it is more along the lines of the established "old crone" effect. Females since the old days, have been drawn into the old pagan ways because they seem more in tune with the givings of nature rather then the testosteronic habit that the "guys" seem to carry. The "warrior" aspect.

Personally, I am drawn into the spirituality of the self rather then bowing down to theology to get me through life.

The only reason why I found this site was the fact that about 2 years ago, I was looking for a certain member of the vampire community known as Maven. By doing a House search for House Mavenlore, I stumbled onto this site. I found the site to be a bit addicting, so I stayed.

Nuff said.

I believe women are just more into fantasy and lore than men are. I also agree that women are more sociable than men are to begin with.

I think it has nothing to do with religion. Considering VR is not a religious site and was never meant to be. It even says in the guidelines that there is to be no religious bashing or intolerance within the site. I have talked to many people on this site, and there are people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and religious backgrounds.

We are all here to make friends and learn.

vvSoulshroudevv, I think mainly what I was getting at was the latest craze over the Twilight movie and that this particular one has drawn out more of the "teens* that are such a large part of this site. The other Vampire films have drawn a bit older crowd imo...particularly the ones in the 90's..

Some young adults are into saying they are vampire because of lore.

Others Pretend to be, or act like they are involved with vampires because of psuedo-intellectual reasoning.

Males that realize this attraction allow themselves to be played with by such woman. So the site attracts dominate woman, who enjoy toying with ego maniacl males.

Females are contributing larger part in the society than earlier, this remove their dependency and this removes man protecting them too. but now clash of mental position rise in gender sick males and females and this break their harmony of living togather. females play tough role in the society while male is free and familier to their working condition and style. Here I think male must help females till their female cross them and no loyal more and vice versa.

during a certain time , woman were more at home so more into sutff like books, cooking with herbs, home remedy, learning to use what they had at hand to resolve issue, while man were more out in factories and all. so that period had an in fluence, which created a more in tune enviroment towards woman to wicca and similar craft earth related.

Between female subjection and hierarchical power structures, it is no wonder that women have looked outside of traditional religious sects in favor of religions that are more in tune with their internal beliefs.

As to why there are more women on VR, it could be a variety of reason. It would be interesting to see the breakdown of demographics for people above level 5 as to gage the percentages of active members.

Firstly I think it is because women are more open. We like to share our everything, our thoughts more then then the men do. We accept other things, more of the supernatural, i suppose we have our hearts open to that which we do not understand.

i personally believe than wicca/ wiccae/ paganism and every druidry are more a female oprianted religion and there appeal to mor women , especially with the boasting of love spells are spells that can supposedly alter your omage to make you beloved fall. as far as more women on vr i think it is simply because women do mature faster and are more willing to admit to their darker side.

i would have to disagree with you there adina. for the simple reason that it has nothing to do with male or female. it has everything to do with there up bringing as a child. if the family is a hard core christian or what not then those people would not even admit to any one out side of vr that they have even read anything about said topics.

I believe that we cannot really say for certain on VR that there are more men than women as the gender section is an option..it is not 100%

As far as women being more into Wicca then men I believe it is the nurturing aspect of the religion that attracts more women then men.

I don't think it has anything to do with women have more time on their hands or that they are more open minded..more nurturing maybe.

Although this is an online world and people can claim to be things they are not as many on here are not honest about their true selves. Many here put on the facade to draw attention or to try to fit in. So in this case all we can do is guess at best since their is no way to collect real data.

I know a lot of men who are just as spiritual or metaphysical/mystically curious as the women.

I don't think it appeals to a lot of men to share what they believe with others (especially women) as much as women need to. Nearly all men who are witches (practitioners of magic) that I know are solitares and/or do not share that information with many people.

It seams more advantageous for men not to share, and more advantageous for women to. When you combine the two roles, you have a successful model for life.

It's unfortunate that western "liberty" has destroyed this model all to hell and our countries have suffered greivously for it's folly (that is: the mistake of not having a new model to replace the old model blown to bits as a result of having both parents in the workforce after WWII)

Kglitterous, I'm not clear on what "model" you mean. Can you explain?

I read something interesting yesterday that I'm still thinking about. It seems so simple, but it reeks of biology is destiny.

Basically, the writer said that because women are entered sexually they are psychologically more receptive. I know plenty of women who are never entered, and who are receptive to nothing.

How much of anatomy determines psychology?

The one income family model. One family member goes out and earns the food, and the other takes care of family and home.

I'd like to mention that I am not being sexist, I believe that there is little difference between men and women, and none as regards the soul.

The model usually dictates that the homemaker sets rules and guidlines for education, and the breadwinner enforces and disciplines. It's a good model and the sexes are well suited to those roles.

The end of the second world war effectively destroyed the model because women were now used to being both the breadwinner and the homemaker; when men returned it effectively doubled the work force for the same amount of jobs and tehreby reducing teh amount of pay available b y a similar amount... so that it became nearly impossible for one breadwinner families to thrive, as they had before the war. Men no longer had a clear role in the family, causing breakdowns in family values and in work ethic. The breakdown of work ethic, family values, and teh latchkey kid generations, causes a degredation in education, in discipline and in core values.

North americans are adamant in retaining this rigid family model (no polygamy or other family models are considered) but it is broken without two distinct roles.

In parts of the world the grandparents raise children and the parents are breadwinners. They have watched their parents raise their offspring while they worked so when they become granparents tehy are prepared to raise kids. This is a very effective model that also works.

Polygamy, Commune, and paying peopel to stay at home are also models that could work... instead, we have broken models.

Hopefully, there will soon be an emerging model, for North Americans, but until that time, our countries will suffer.

This ties in with my previous post because women are still socially constructed to the homemaker role, and men are more constructed to a provider role. Providers are competitve with other providers and thus there is an advantage in not sharing. The homemaker role has an advantage in sharing knowledge with other homemakers. So thus women will share their beliefs more readily than men.

Men are not less interested they just express tehir interest less.

good points fiz. but i don't see where men make better breadwinners at all personally. i know some women who will give everyman she meets a run for his money . not just because she had to fight for that right or because she finds it funny but because she too is competetive.

This being said , my father was a liscenced preached in the southern baptist beliefs all through out my child hood years and he had no trouble sharing his beliefs with me growing up and when i declared myself a pagan . he has since come to grips with it but still asks me not to turn my back on the lord and what not ... i guess what i am saying is i don't see where men are less likely to share their beliefs than women hold any ground.

Kglitterous, your summaries are always good, but I submit that women (in all but the very upper crust) always worked. They just didn't get paid for it.

As such, they always were the first threshold of discipline and enforcement, and the men were for the hard cases. So, once again they encroached on "male" terrain.

They also multitasked like madwomen. We're still doing it, although some men have eased the process.

I'm sorry to say this, and language fails me, but I'm beginning to think that biology has not only gifted women with longevity, but with certain skills in the "other" realm.

I love men, for their obvious differences and certain talents, but I adore women, maybe even defensively because I think our powers go beyond single-minded, linear, brute force thinking.

I think the world was better off when women conducted our affairs and men were happy to consult and worship at our . . . whatever.

I'll drop the veneer of pc'ness and say that I think women have an ability, receptivieness, or power that enables us to enter realms men have only imagined.

Why do you think there are more women then men on VR, and why do you think more women are in to magic and wicca then men?

Well I feel that women just dominate the world in general as to why there may be more on VR than men. And as to the Wicca well I DO practice it and I do understand it.

Do you think it has to do with women being more open minded?

I feel more women are into it or more open about it because Women are more understanding of the natural nurturing aspect of Wicca.

Men do not think of these things in general that is as women do.

Speaking from personal experiences:

I have sent out tons of postcards inviting people to join VampireRave. The response I get is this:

"I clicked the link and got to the page, but now what do I do?"

Most of the females figure it out on their own, most of the men have to be led down to the little 'join here' link marked in red.

Perhaps females just read the home page and men don't. They can't seem to find the join option link. Heck, I even have to tell them to scroll down the page and click on one of the side bar links. The men simply are not reading the page before saying "I don't know where to go from here."

I'm not 100% sure how to answer that one.

The way I see it is online, anyone can be what they want to be even if they really aren't. I mean think about it, unless you know the person for real and can catch them on what they say/do online compared to real life, then you'd never know if they were telling the truth. Plus as stated in the thread...a lot of teenage girls are looking at the movie twilight and hoping that it's true, and that their vampire boyfriend will come sweep them off their feet, or that they'll meet Edward Cullen.

*Just a hint for the ones looking for him....you're on the wrong site...lol...there's an Edward Cullen's on a non vampire site*

Anyways....back to what I was saying...to be honest with you, in all reality I know a lot more men who are into paganism/wicca than I do females. Most females I've met along the way think it's immature, fake, and a way to hide behind something and make yourself feel in power....which isn't true. And they would know that if they studied up on it and looked pass the superficial things that are protruded about it.

well waybe its because they are attracted to the thought of vampires ether by the way they dress or how they look and act take dracula books or films dracula is always played as some sort of lord, gentleman and the female vampires are always slightly more wild so maybe they just fell in love with ideal of men being gentleman and females being the slightly more wild.

As for the wiccan aspect maybe because wiccans beleive in mother nature abit more than any other religion and the phrase mother is well obviously femine and lets face it its not like chicks have good standing in most common religions hell in the bible they are the ones that made adam eat the apple they where made from his spares , whore of babylon and so on so lets face it wiccan is more accepting

but honestly who cares each person has there own reason and as for more on vr who cares just like on bikes the more chicks on them the better

I can't say much for all the other women on here, but as for myself I joined because I live in a town that you can't throw a rock without hitting a church. The are a lot of pagan/wicca practitioners in California but I managed to end up in the one town where there are none out in public besides myself. When I came across the link to the VR website I just wanted to see what was going on within its pages.

Now 4 years later and a new account I'm still hooked on it because I have found so many different resources of information about the occult and other things that have always fascinated me. I also found a lot of people on here with common interest as myself.

Females are radiantly emotional and spiritual. These are only two of their greatest strengths and ought to be among their most treasured contributions to Humanity. And it seems to me it is due to these far-more developed capacities that females are more drawn to such interests as those celebrated at sites such as this one. Females are our future for not only are they the bearers of new life, the true nurturers of rising generations, they are also the brightest sources of spiritual light and strength radiating their love, their unselfishness, their near-limitless sensuality, their higher values and ideals upon all with whom they have influence.

While prior to the advent some millennia ago of male dominated religion and government, women were truly considered equals with men and their unique contributions considered just as essential to society as those of males, yet with the advent of violent male domination, this all changed. It was their uniqueness, combined with that of men, that caused the original ancient societies of "Old Europe" some 10,000+ years ago to blossom and prosper in gylanic harmony. During such times, men and women ruled together, each with highly different yet equal roles and contributing duties to the spiritual, political, emotional and sensual welfare of all therein.

Today, as women are finally beginning to be more and more acknowledged and appreciated for their invaluable contributions, gifts, and capacities, their voice is finally being recognized and their precious attributes esteemed by society in general.

For this reason, such emotional and spiritual paths as Wicca and any and all others that glorify females' far superior emotional, spiritual, and sensual capacities are understandably drawing to them the very females whose gifts they honor and recognize.

As for the lure and draw of the "Vampire," this, again, appeals to the deeper levels of romanticism and sensuality that most females secretly crave in their relationships and so very seldom find. While politically and to some extents socially females have made great strides, yet so many men today seem to have collectively digressed in many ways becoming increasingly crass, selfish, amoral, and narcissistic, having traded their deeper emotional capacities in for "gangsta"-style posturing and the corresponding neanderthalish treatment of women as sexual commodities to be traded and "pimped" out (metaphorically and... otherwise). Most of today's movies and music devalue women in ways unimaginable only a generation ago and seem destined to free-fall even further, thus only increasing the humiliation and rising frustration of women with respect to their personal heterosexual relationships.

Yet again, another reason why pathways and sites such as this one that celebrate females' deeper emotional, spiritual, and romantic contributions and values are going to increasingly draw more and more women thereto... and thankfully so also for those few males found here who truly recognize and value all such, as well.

I think what it sums up too is men in the past supposedly were the providers, and women the cargivers and problem solvers etc.... wel nature has balanced it out we became more and with financial stability and sperm banks and genetics we are weening out all the mistakes the gods have made and illeminating the problem, men devel0oped all of this and we were given free reign so basically the men wanted women to have free rule over the world and we are doing just what come natural and tring to heal the earth of mans polution and seems like we are doing a good job hopefully we don't get to emotional.

lol, I mean no offense to anyone okay its just a hypathetical theory.

Umm....There are more women in the world then men.
Women because of how Society has groomed them seem to be nicer and more open minded percentage wise then men...

Though these are social things not genetic things....not a tribute to Genetic Superiority or inferiority Just Social Stupidity.

In Some Cultures there are up to 5 accepted Genders...

I find it stupid how people come up with categories to separate themselves from others?

what happened to being a human being?

You can say what you will...

Vampire rave has Large percentage of Open Minded Human Beings....Nothing Else.

This is my thought, bc thanks to the movies and such when the word wicca or witch is said 9 times out of 10 ppl think femail, however let be known that there are male witches and they have been arround for years. With that said i do tend to think that femais are more open to the earth energy thus they tend to advance faster then males with there power

I agree with what Gaulder stated. I am a male wiccan and been in the study of for over 12 years now. I tend to also agree with some of the other posting about the younger groups only saying their wiccan and such because of the movies and internet.

As a female and a minor who is in these environments and who takes pride in her research and religion, I think we are pulled to what we are pulled to. Whether that is a mainstream religion and outlook or not, the same rules apply. There is nothing wrong with young men and women testing different cultures because thats human nature. Yes females tend to be drawn to wicce mainly because the female divinity aspect of the religion, as well as it being out of what is relatively normal.

I studied religions from all over the world and claimed none for 3 years. I call myself pagan, even though i incorporate many modern traditions and beliefs from different religions and culture that exist all over today.

Im not sure why there are more women here on Vampire Rave than men. That could simply be the fact that women talk about things on a more personal basis more frequently because it is socially acceptable to do so. Females are more likely to talk about the sites they go on and what they do there among each other

I think many women are more open-minded in regards to the paranormal than men are. A big part of that has to do with paranormal romance novels, which are mostly written in the point of view of women admiring the sexy vampire warrior or the daring werewolf who's lurking around in a modern society trying to make a living just like everyone else.

In regards to many women following Wicca, I've always seen the religions as one that is based more so on the Goddesses, where as in witchcraft both the Gods and Goddesses are worshiped. Wicca is also heavily based on Mother Earth, therefore women may feel a more complete balance than men.

However, the more browsing I do here on the site, I'm discovering that more men are studying and practicing Wicca, and I think it is wonderful! :)

That is very true MysticalJade.
Perhaps because more women are in tune with nature due to the creation of life itself, "Birth".
So we are naturally drawn to the spiritual and supernatural sides of life as well.

I think it exactly is women being more open minded. Also there is a tons of wiccans on here and from what i've known or should i say seen is that more women do take to the with lifestyle even in life and the movies. You don't see many men in the movies as witches. I think with this site being a very open site and allowing all groups to bring beliefs here it also draws many female wiccans, female vampires, female werewolves. The list can go on but yes i think with woman being open to so many more ideas than men it brings more females to the site.

woman tend to lean more toward the romantic side of life, and vampires are considered romantic, while rating profiles i notice woman have more erotic and senual stuff on thier page, as men have more death and metal stuff. When like to gather toward social outlets more then men, we our more open to talk and be social, as with men they are more to themself, there are some exceptions to the rule here, but i do think thats why there are more women here then men. We love to be social. I think this theory falls back on the age old question as to why we go to the bathroom in packs and men go by themself.

I've found that in the real world, I come across more males who are into Wicca, Witchcraft, Paganism, etc...than I do females. Most of the females I've met along the way think that magic is fake and that these ways of life are inexistent. Whereas, online I can find more females who are into these practices. So, I don't know. Maybe that's why there's more females than males on VR....it's cause the males don't always relate to the internet with their beliefs, whereas the females are a lil more open to sharing and conversing with one another. A lot of the males I do know who are into these only converse with people within their circle or area/community, very few go outside of their elements and coven. Some of the men don't even tell that they are unless they have enough proof that you are as well, then they'll open up a lil bit.

I cannot answer why more women are Wiccan than men.

But I believe as far as being on VR or whatever site they are into it may be that some women have more time on their hands, and usually the PC as a form of entertainment rather than something to fill a void for people with the case of the lonesomes .

Same as if their job or school entails them being on the computer all day. Some escape for a time to break the grind of the day or night. Even stay at home moms need a break! I have friends who work regular jobs and they spend quite a bit of time on face book in between whatever it is they are doing at their work.

Because women can more easily find the beauty and romance in the darkness, while men are more interested in the thrashing and ravaging. So the women are here, the men are watching football.

Actually vvSoulshroudevv when you said "Men - Seem to be taught that they are ship builders, sports junkies, powerful made-men, with the color of blue as their representative.

Women - Seem to be taught the "weak house wife" position, that they are lesser then men, fragile at times, with the color of pink as their represntative." women are the weaker ones when its comes to men and women. Women are the weaker vessel but that does not mean that like in the old days women can't have a job and support the family just that the male is the head of the house and dominant over the wife and child(ern).
