I know this subject has been done before but i'm posting a question about vampire births in the movie Blade. Obviously, this is hollywood based.
In the movie, Blade was a hybrid mixture of Human and Vampire. He was 'created', for lack of a better word, when his pregnant mother was bitten by a vampire and that is how vampires are created in this specific movie.
The Vampire Elder Dragonetti called himself a pure blood because he was born a vampire. So, at some point in his family history, someone was bitten and turned into a vampire.
Other than his mother being human at his birth, what is the difference between Blade's birth and Dragonetti's birth? Both were born vampires.
(Chuckles) Re-read the post and came to a conclusion.
The elder vampire is somewhat like I am, we were both born into the bloodlen...Save for he is waaay older than I am. As well as we come from two differant bloodlen.
Blade on the other hand, well...his mother was bitten as he was still an infant in his mothers womb. This may have caused part of the vampire DNA to interact with his own human DNA, thus making the Damphir/Day walker.
The elder, as I had stated earlier, was born into the bloodlen since both his parents were vampire. Or so I would presume such. No, this would not be incest, as it is not family related. Bloodlen are only considered family "streetwise". Which is a discussion for a later date.
Anywho, as the Elder was born I am presuming from two vampires, then this would make him a pureblood.
Blade was not. Thus the Damphir. I feel as though I am being a bit repetitious.
But I think you get my point.
Well I think, even though Hollywood fiction,
That the Elder in this case would be even more pure of blood than Blade but still almost equal to him. Because like someone has said before me, someone's mother must have been bitten while pregnant, in order for him to be born a vampire. Then they just mated with other vampires...
That's just my opinion...
It's plausible but extremely unlikely nor would want to ever try to do it. I would not suggest anybody else do it either.
Blade was what was considered a half breed because at the time of his birth his mother was still human
there are thoes who are born to darkness ie from the line of lillith herself and they are the ones who set up the clans holleywood just over does the "pureblood" fude
I agree - blade was a halfbreed and hollywoodland they can conjure up anything they want
ok what i dont get is that...
if a vampire is "pure blood" by 2 vampires....umm...how can that be when vampires are the undead meaning they're bobies are dead..wouldnt that mean they're reproductive organs would be dead too?
1.Vampires do not exist...even though some think they are one.
2.Hollywood makes up alot of stuff for movies...they ARE movies.
3."Vampires" fictional ones are dead, they can not reproduce.
4.The people who "live" like a vampire can have babies...they are humans living in a fantasy world.
5.My opinon not bashing anyones lifestyle.
FelixFelix edit: However movies being movies, fictional vampires don't have to be unable to reproduce. Its up to the author.
I am sorry but I don't see your point why do you post a question to which you can find the answer by looking at it...I mean all of this besides the guy i am agreeing with make no sense...I am sorry for being so blunt
If it were in fact possible to be born pure blood anymore which heck no one is pure blood we are are hybrids of some type or another. Then blade would be just like every other creature walking this earth a freaked out version of something else....lol....ok as for pure blooded anything ha!!! Impossible.
blades mother wasnt a vampire .. she was in the process of turning even as his father was human. His change was the result of an incomplete mutation. Dragotti was in all likeyhood the product of the union of two vampires since i dount the undead can knock up the liveing or vice versa
Which in perpetual ways leads to yet another question...
If in fact the fictional vampire, being dead..."Mates" with another vampire, or could this be an act of ritual...Like that of excuse the expression...Milking the goat.
Which means to birth a vampire like that of the virgin mary origin. A sort of immaculate conception theory. Since the fictional vampire being dead, cannot give birth. Due to ceased bodily functions.
Any thoughts?
Hummm...interesting...got some keen minds here. Since dragonetti wasn't bitten at all maybe he came from a line of pure breeds who were either always on this planet or came here from another planet.
One was born from a human/vampire mix, the other from vampire/vampire mix. It's as simple as that.
Hey when you go back to the whole Blade thing, the one where they go find the first vampire he was not undead. The king of the vampires look more like the predator with shape shifting abilities so the pure blood were themselves in fact non-pure blood. I don't remember seeing a mrs. for the master vampire.
He would have had to mate with a human, then that humans children mate with another humans child sired by the same Master, to which it would have been incest and cause the genetic flaws that occurred there after.
I am inclined to see Soulshroude's point of view here. But agree also in that it is, in fact hollywood here...never take anything you see in the movies for granted.
Artistic liscence. I can write a novel about a vampire and make it anyway I like. Does this make it incorrect or wrong? I can write a story about what really happened in the Old testament. I can change fact, I can imagine and theorize and as long as it's fiction no-one can debate it. It's fiction, make believe, anything can happen. Just ask Peter Pan.
thats what i mean sleeperperfect.....
how can one be pure blood if vampires cant reproduce...
kevil dracula or the perfect vampire as you say would not have to mate he would just have to bite like all the other vampires & that therefore would make them vampires
I never believed you could be a hybrid mixture of human and vampire... Because The human is a normal ... i dont know how i wanna say it. I guess to me a human and vampire are impossible to be mixed into a hybrid. I suposse At the beging of the transformation you are still part human but To stay part human...I don't understand...I'd Like to know if anyone has a link to information please let me see.
In the MOVIE and Comic book. Vampires can have children.
Dragonetti was a child of two vampires. In Blades world Vampires do age, just very very slowly.
Read the comics if you have not already as they are pretty good. A bit butchered in the Movies but hey its Hollywood.
I agree it has alot to do with the fact its a movie that such exstream differances can occure. Due to the fact his mother was turning vampire, and his father was still human Blade is a half-breed in his own way. While the elder was probably as a few have said born of two vampires even if at some point his mother was bitten, she turned way before he was born and is the result of two vampire parents. Not a changling and a human. Making them different in some ways.
well in some belief a child is born to vampires... somewhat human... and it takes time for teh DNA to fully 'transform' or take over, this happens at or around a cirtain age changing the structure of the childs DNA and physicallity, this is called the changing... but is known as many other names aswell....
It might be that both parents were vampires at birth. A longer blood line.
I DID state in the original post that this was based on HOLLYWOOD and it's version of the Blade storyline.
Based on Hollywood and the Blade storyline, vampires ARE alive, their various bodily organs ARE alive and working and they CAN give birth.
Stating wether vampires are real or not is also a matter of opinion... some believe they are but my question has nothing to do with it. EVERYTHING can be real in Hollywood.
i have noticed none have mentioned blades syrum it is not that he is half vamp or anything the vamp who bit his mother never intended him to live or to turn
the syrum is the only thing that keeps him from giving in to his nature and being a full vamp butt like the first in being able to brave the sun
same type of thing is done with a pill in john carpenters vampires los mortos
Oi Vei the answer to your question is in the movies just pay closer attention to them....movies do have sme truths to them
~D~
blade was born as only half vampire though...so maybe both parents need to be vampire to have pure blood baby? i thought vampiers couldn't have babies though?
For lack of a better answer to the opening question, I would think that if its answers you seek to point out that said movie started as a comic book.
ok I admit I did not follow the comics.. so I had to ask a friend. What they said is basically.. Blades mom was bitten just before he could be born.. he was not able to become fully a vamp so was caught sort of between worlds.
the turns vamps people get.. bite you become one but started as pure human
born vamps.. ok I was told it prolly happened one of two ways... both parents were vampires and so of course the child would be. Or like Blade their mom was bitten.. but they were not as close to being born so were able to finish becomeing full vamps.
just because someone is born pure blood doesn't mean that there was someone bitten at some point in time. Vampire are a different species from human so like any other species would be able to reproduce offspring that are also pure blood. Blade on the other hand is basically a half breed being that his human blood was infected with the vampire blood when his mother was bitten.
He was born vampire with more pure vampiric blood then Blade
There is an excellent write up on Blade in the database :)
Given that Hollywood movies are written and thought up by humans, the continuity of the plot and story are similar to swiss-cheese -- plenty of holes (errors/flaws).
On the topic of vampire reproduction to create pure-bloods, if vampires cannot reproduce, then the movie "Van Helsing" is also incorrect. In that movie we saw vampire babies being cocooned similar in concept to the Alien monster in the Alien quadrology and two AVP movies.
I suppose if one considers THAT to be the way Vampires reproduce, then pure breeds are plausible.
For the most part tho, I would just sit back and enjoy the movies for what they are -- pure entertainment, nothing more.
The Damphir kills the Master Vampire because Damphirs are more powerful, yet at the same time more fragile and vulnerable.
They are still different because Blade wasn't a pure blood
Blade was born with out any of the weakness and all there strenghtes. The leader or overlord was born with everything but sunlight and silver not sure what else bothered him or his kind in that movie. This is my opinion.
Blade was a hybrid because he was in his mother's womb when she was bitten, then born a vampire human hybrid. The elder vampire was a pure blood because he had been born of two vampiric parents, or so I am assuming. When you say "pure blood" that's the first thing that comes to mind.
Blades mother wasn't completly a vampire when he was born so niether was he. and he wasn't bitten so he didn't have cirect contact with the virus so he the trasformation was never completed. were for the other guys parents were both already vampires wen he was conseved
You know how certain people seem to be bothered by mosquitos and others are not? Imagine a family continuously plagued by vampires. Sweetbloods. A few of the victims survive and whoa! they just happen to be pregnant. Cousins marry, both Bladelike progeny and from their union is born a pureblood.
When he mentioned born vampire it was simple, his parents where both vampire, he was not turned by a vampire. He had never lived as a mortal before becoming what he was. The human blood line was destroyed in his parents upon them or his grandparents being turned. Its perception he is talking about. A pride thing, a human is merely turned and given the gift, he was born of darkness and never human.
not bein funny but u cant just comment on one film if u watch van helsing with hugh jackman in u will see in tht vampires can have babies but in alot of films and programmes contridict this its just a matter of wat makes sense
I would have to agree, that there really is no difference. The author, aka Hollywood, probably thinks he or she has given it a different birthright, which is pretty weird if you ask me.
Well, I'm guessing Dragi-whatsis was born of two vampires doin' the dirty.
i've always thought that that particular scene was faulty. it just never made much sense to me
According to WikipediA:
Vampires are divided into two specific species categories: pure blood and non-pure blood (turned), which in turn, carries with it a specific connotation that is reflected in their society and hierarchy. As seen in the Blade films and in Blade: The Series, pure bloods are born-vampires, offspring that were conceived between two turn-blood vampires.
There was also the supposed child between Darla and Angelus on "Angel".
I found it hard to comprehend that since, the way I learned about vampires, and as others have said, vampires cannot conceive; the necessary organs are nonfunctional unless blood is devoted to temporarily reactivating them. As well, many Kindred are somewhat asexual, as the act of "bloodsport" is to them far more euphoric than intercourse.
The Tremere and Obertuses have recorded many, many variants of the procreation, from a woman taking blood from Kindred during pregnancy, to a male vampire "miraculously" producing sperm. They have even, on occasion, noted certain female vampires giving birth. Such occurrences have only occurred twice, and in one case, the female vampire was a known Infernalist.
We do not have a "real" vampire in front of us to dissect to find out their actual phisiology; so until then, numerous versions of how vampires can be created, or conceived, will be out there.
Dead things can't give birth, but I guess it might be able to muliply, it would be like cracking a rock in two pieces.

Vampires aren't dead. They're undead. There is a difference.
Reading all of this leaves me with one question...... was Peter Pan a pure or half blood?
In what way do you see Peter Pan as a vampire?? I'm sorry, but I am having trouble in seeing the connection. Perhaps if you would be so kind as to explain your reasoning behind this theory, I would be able to give my thoughts on the answer to this question...
Just a light hearted play off of TegoSanguisitims post earlier in the string. Not implying Peter Pan was/is a vampire just questioning whether he is half or full breed what ever breed that may be.
Ahhh.. ok then. I see.. in that case let's say he's a full blooded vamp! Since it is after all, fiction and fantasy! ;)
actually it is true I guess we werent the first to turn Peter Pan into a vampire
Peter Pan's Lost Boys are characters in J. M. Barrie's play Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up and subsequent adaptations and extensions to the story. They are boys who were lost by their nannies in places such as Kensington Gardens. Having gone unclaimed for seven days, they were wisked off to Neverland, where they live with Peter Pan. There are no "lost girls", because (as Peter explains) girls are too clever to be lost in this manner.
The Lost Boys have served as a reference point for several works inspired by the Peter Pan story, including the 1987 vampire film named after them starring Kiefer Sutherland
There is no way for us to ever know or understand every aspect of the births and or pure blooded-ness of any vampire be they realistic or not. Each has his own history and life, and each is unique.
they never did say blade was a mud blood did they? their verson of pure bloods must be because their family line must have been one of the first bitten by drako, the proginator
It cant be done simple............. babies need blood from there mum a heart beat and al the other things please tell me how is a vampire going to supply all this what a crock of bull
yes vampire can have children in the movies who knows maybe one day in real life
It's Hollywood people. Plain & simple. 1/2 blood Or full it was fun.
i think the difference is that when blades mother was bitten she was pregnant.and the father wasn't a vampire.but if you look at the movie that would mean a vampire could get pregnant.which sounds impossible since they are already dead
HoodedDemon -
If vampires were dead they wouldn't need to feed. Nor would they have a working brain or anything.
Vampires are undead.

As far as my understanding of vampires. They are human and they can reproduce.
The difference is, Blade has that injection thingy that he uses to keep the vampire in him under control!
-Juggalette givin MMFWCL
holly wood can my any thing come a live and so believe able when they want
I had read in a book ( and the title of the book slips my mind since it was back in ;95 when I read it) but in the book it has it that a vampire could reproduce up to the age of 30 before the full vampire in them took over...
I have watched Blade so many times but I guess I never thought of them as the undead in the typical way like Dracula. They to me were something inbetween dead and what we perceive as alive. These characters had distinct personalities, humor or lack thereof and cunning. You could also see the politics and pecking order. They were more like predatory humans who had special powers and needed blood to survive; a little callous I know but not too different than gangsters.
Blade was infected when in the womb and I think this is the thing. A human father and a mother that had been changed. The Dhampir as some stated. Then you had those who were the older who had been born from parents who were also vampires. They were born how they were and they seemed much more fragile to me than those that were made from existing vampires. Nothing was stated in the movie as to whether the middle class, those changed after birth were capable of procreating. At least I don't remember it. This may be the difference. The thing is when they brought in the other character who was the first vampire and went by many names. They implied he was bred that way. He obviously created others of his kind. Then they eventually mated and created the pure line and you had various types. They showed that those born vampires thought they were better than those who were made.
Ive seen the films but never thought about it, but id agree with the person above they are more like gangsters with powers.
There are many full-breeds of vampire out there, they might not want to be found. I'm one of them.
DNA could be a big part of it...like an extra chromosome or something that carries a gene that gives an unborn child vampyric qualities. Just a thought. ;)
the not blades birth if he was born from a vampire techiniquly wouldnt that be impossilbe because like it was mentioned is breaking dawn a female vampire is dead there fore she doesnt have a period and can't give birth so wouldnt his birth not of been able to happen??...
maybe dragonetti's mother or father or ancient ancestor was bitten before he was concieved.
OK here we go. mom pregnant, father of child is bitten then bites mom. wham both now vampires and baby is to. Having both parents vamps. While blade only had mums a vamp. & dad sucked dry.
Well, this may be a tad off subject. But since we are talking about Hollywood...in Brian Lumley's books, mainly the Necroscope series, vampires could not reproduce, their "willys" shrivelled up". So they were not able to procreate. They likened mating to feeding. But were never able to produce heirs.
Just my two cents, but, good thread.
Well if Blades mother was biten by a vampire then that would mean he was not first and as for the other it would have to be the blood god La Magra
iv'e always believed when one was turned and given the gift of immortality that they lose the gift of conceiving any children.
In my opinion it is a good movie, i don’t know if it’s me or I missed a part or vampires in the movies are plain retards, but why they fight their asses to get a new breed of vampires (rippers) to stop Blade if they don’t even tried what Frost did with Blade's mom in first place, why he didn’t just took some pregnant women and did the same at the exact same time as he did with Blades mom, just to try the possibilities, you would’ve had plenty of Half breeds to kill him later. Ok now for the main topic, i believe Blade and Dragonneti are not the same because he is a pure blood vampire from both parents, doesn’t mean that his parents were never exactly vampires but if both of them were turned there are infected vampires then if both of them have a baby then is not an infected vampire it’s a pure blood offspring, if that would be the alternate case then every vampire is an infected vampire ‘cause only the first one ever existed would be the only pure blood vampire. Now Blades is not pure blood just for the fact that his mom is half vampire-half human minutes before his birth and the effect to turn into a vampire in the movie took about 72 hours so his mom was in a transitional phase during deliverance.
a vampires organs, even the reproductive ones should be functional, as the vampire is not dead, but rather undead. dead to our technology for a time (as the vampire virus or whatever it is works its way thru the persons system) then alive again. the dead can not walk, but a modified living person can.
as to there being no such things as vampires...
i still say....yes, they are unlikely, but impossible? i wont say that.
~W~
According to most movies vampires can only reproduse if they bite a pregnate woman.Other then that they can not because they are dead and have no living human DNA to create the lil things that make life.
RE:Other than his mother being human at his birth, what is the difference between Blade's birth and Dragonetti's birth? Both were born vampires.
I believe the difference is that Dragonetti's bloodline is from the Vampire Lineage. While blade is not. His lineage will start with him. So far the other's are dead on.
I only have one question, can vampires even have kids, if they are both immortal how can a female vampire get pregnant and give birth since the body changes, and if you are dead you body does not change. I was just wondering.
Vampires are the undead meaning they are supposed to be dead, but instead are endowed with certain special powers. These powers vary from vampire to vampire. They are not equally endowed with speed, strength, shape-shifting abilities, or the talent to glamour. They like sex, especially w/humans. Why couldn't the ability to procreate be another special talent, a quirk of fate, a magical endowment?
I have no clue as to blades vampire bloodline what I do know is a turned vampire can not conceive, meaning get preganet or pregnate some one else. They are nothing more than drones or armies to the master that turned them. A true blood vampire has a father that was born a vampire and inpregnates a female human than bites and turns her before birth. This must be done days before birth as the transformation of mother to vampire causes the unborn child seeded with vampire DNA from the father to accelerate the transformation being by the time the mother is fully turned, so has the child. This time frame can be between 24 hrs to 72 hrs at time the child must be removed from the mother womb or the vampire child have been known to exit the mothers womb by ripping, tearing and scratching it's way out. In some cases even eating its way out where as the mother have been known to be tore up to badly to survive even after having been turned. This vampire born child is a true burn vampire as it will grow up having to hide its secrect from the rest of the world because of the fear people are made to believe we are. The mother that has been turn can now never give birth again, but her child being male or female is capable of procreation and when two of these vampires one being male and one being female give birth there vampire child is a pure blood vampire.
