I have recently gotten very curious. I know that people from all around the world come to the rave to socialize with others from all walks of life. My question is what religion do you claim? I myself am wiccan and do not discriminate those of other religions. Just something I have recently wondered.

I was born one religion the searched and wanted to seek out others, I when and "try" sort of speak to see if they were the ones bounding for my soul, turns out... after 5 different ones no joke really 5, from the one accpeted to the one people will insult and put down and degrade and turns out... for about almost 17 years the one poeple hated the most was the one I beleived and still do... but left. For my own personal reason, still beleive its the right one, but left.

I respect others with theirs, and do not seek to change what they do at home, I only get lightly "anoyed" when they try to force me to change in my home, otherwise I consider they can choose, don,t matter if its right or wrong, because I am no god or god's juge to decid for anyone.

Don't know if it makes sens, if not, I appologies.

I am agnostic... because I readily admit that as regards what, if anything, follows Death, whether or not we are here for a purpose, or whether there is a Higher Power, I don't know.

I also don't believe in belief. Thus, I can't believe in a religion which is by very nature an entire pre-packaged grouping of invented beliefs by mortals who have no more idea about what follows this life than any of us do. Thus, I find the entire panopoly of religions with their pantheon of deities to be a sham, a crutch and a cop out that keeps people from actually seeking the answers out for themselves. It is all a complete and total waste of time and energy and distracts people from seeking real answers to life's greatest and most important questions.

Nowadays, I consider myself a a sort of Naturalist-Christian. When I was younger, I experimented with other religions, and happily called myself Wiccan for about 5 years. Actively participated in a coven, and neared Priestess status, but something happened somewhere along the lines that brought me back to what I was raised as. Though I do still use a lot of what I learned in my Pagan years.

I have no set beliefs, I simply follow my desires and heart, the only thing that has remain consistent over the many years is me being a follower of chaos, chaos represents freedom and change and as one who desires freedom at any cost, its something I take seriously.

I am open minded to the universe though I am not an idiot, I will never believe someone at they word only, proof would need to be provided. I have no respect for those who expect others to simply believe and go along with what they say with no proof.

Myself i am atheist, but that doesn't mean I will go against those that don't believe in "god" just as long as you don't come to me and press it in my face. I know everyone has their own reasons, but mine i have a lot of reason's as to why i guess you can say lost the faith. but that's just me. as i said i respect everyone that has their own thing, just don't rub it in my face....

But i do believe in something of a higher power, just not something or someone that everyone else does, to me i believe we all have something of our own to believe in and something of our own that holds a higher power, everyone is their own, thus forth everyone i believe has their own thoughts on things here and there...

I have noticed that there are threads of comonality in all religions, to me and this MY OPINION, all of the religions have simply adjusted doctrine to there own purposes.

With that being said, I simply celebrate life around me and the earth I have the privilege to live upon.

I was born into a Christian family. Throughout my life I had my father and grandfather throw the book at me (the bible, that is) and preach it to me even while we were not at church. After I turned about 13, I wasn't forced to go to church anymore.
Instead I opened my heart to religion and beliefs from around the globe. I'm still a Christian. But with some tweaking here and there lol.

You're right agora, religion does tend limit some people, when someone is indoctrinated into certain beliefs they cannot see past them. Christianity and other religions in its extreme cases have had people who are very narrow minded and think with their beliefs, not with their heart or their mind.

This very thing is confronting me right now, as I have a coworker/friend that has just lost his wife to a heart attack. I did not know her but knowing him I grieve too. The problem is I am torn when God is brought up, what do you say to a grieving man? That I don't believe your wife is with God? Or do you lie to spare his feelings?

I was born in a Roman Catholic country so I got babtised. However I never felt it was for me and I decided to be Agnostic. I respect religion unless it is forced and a way to control and used as an excuse to divide rather then unite. Which is a pity, because all religions should be about love and guidance.Where I am we are surrounded by religion all the time and you'll have a clear idea of what religion control is. I have a more detailed journal entry about this. However whether it limits or not, or whether it is man made, I still believe people are free to believe in anything, if that makes them happier, guided and with a goal in life, then why not? In fact it is not a religion that is wrong but the practices of people.

I agree with dabbler, as what he quoted is just a reitteration of my previous statement. And deathnitegrl I have to respectfully disagree, where I find your words very politically correct, I also find that the ignorance is bliss argument to be flawed. They may be happy but they spread discord with their delusions that are masked by a collective belief system ment to subjugate the weak, and mold minds that fear questioning authority, which people should always do to keep those in power honest.

This "if it makes them happy" stance is tantamount condoning ignorance and is a major reason why this ignorance continues to spread. This site may not have many convention religions represented on a large scale but there are plenty. If you go around spouting how karma will take care of things, it is like passing the buck, so in turn these individuals continue to get away with, some small things and some massive things because you have faith. Same with the "it's not my place to judge, only God can do that" stance. If they are doomed to go to hell then who cares right? They can continue to perform harmful acts on others unchallenged because God with cast them down in the end. What happens when they accept Christ into there lives? Every sin is washed away that means that mass murders, child molesters, etc... will get into heaven? Same with other religions that don't believe in hell, they all go to heaven, for eternity.

Eternity together with everyone that ever hurt you, imagine that. Even if you don't ever have to be in contact with them try to imagine eternity. Given eternity everything that can be accomplished will be accomplished. Beyond all achievements there would be only limitless, pointless, existence.

100
The first hundred years may be possible,
1000
The first thousand years more painful,
10000
The first ten thousand insufferable, but this is just the start.
10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.....

An eternity together or alone would be hell.

In summation religion is a plague upon mankind, and all the believe are soldiers of ignorance and need to be stopped before they hurt anymore people. Knowledge, reason, and logic, kills ignorance, so I believe the knowledgable should all make it a point to enlighten those that live in darkness. If they still chose not to believe the truth that is their choice. But don't pass the buck, by calling them lost causes, if that is true then we all are.

I was born and baptized as Catholic, raised atheist, and have followed the Asatrù path for several years now.

While I have my own set beliefs, I am quite open to other's beliefs, religious and spiritual. In fact, I enjoy sitting back and discussing different religious and spiritual aspects with friends. It's a way to open ourselves to different views and understanding others views on it.

Agnostic like Upir, but some things in my life never quite made sense, things in my life that might be considered odd. I grew up in a logical indoctrination scheme but i was always a tree hugger my mother provided some balance;

The military world all made perfect sense for decades until I went travelling alone and met the vampires, then logic went out the window and really wierd shit happened, 200 crows in my garden, 2000 on the trees opposite, wierd fires, electrics, weather, money, paths, even death .(Oh+I have witnesses) So Why me?

Not sure, I think I lost my way along with the rest of monkey kin, maybe an ancestry thing, looks that way.

Think mother nature has one more kick on the West coast, if so, I know the answers everyone will seek ;) T.G.Knight.

Agora, you said... "The problem is I am torn when God is brought up, what do you say to a grieving man? That I don't believe your wife is with God? Or do you lie to spare his feelings? "

In a case like that- you choose your words wisely as to be respectful and tactful of such fresh loss. In the TV show The Mentalist, lead character 'Patrick Jane' is an Atheist. When speaking to people fresh from loss he'll respond to such comments as "That's a wonderful sentiment" or the like. Outside of fresh loss he is more matter of fact. It's all about your timing. If asked straight out by a person with fresh loss- you can still find considerate ways to explain your perception. But... I think you already know that. There should never be a problem in talking about such a thing with one who is grieving. There is a time and place for debating the afterlife or lack thereof.

Here's what one skeptic offers as far as condolences.

""I'm really sorry this happened to you. It really isn't fair. It isn't fair at all. If I were you I would feel cheated and hurt; I might even be angry that I didn't get more time with my Dad. You have every right to feel bad. If you want to cry, you should. It's okay. It's more than okay. It's human. Very human.

"All loving, caring people grieve when those they love are gone. And all of us, every last one of us, will experience this feeling at some point in our lives. Sometimes we grieve very deeply and for a very long time. Sometimes we get over it and sometimes we do not. Mostly we get on with our lives because there is nothing else we can do. But loving, caring people continue to think about their loved ones no matter how far they have gotten on with their lives, because our lost loved ones continue to live.

"No one knows if they REALLY continue to live in some other place -- I suspect not -- but we do know for sure, with as much certainty as any scientific theory or philosophical argument can muster, that our loved ones continue to live in our memories and in our lives.

"It isn't wrong to feel sad. It is right. Self-evidently right. It means we love and can be loved. It means our loved ones continue to live because we continue to miss them. Tears of sadness are really tears of love. Why shouldn't you cry for your Dad? He's your Dad and you love him. Don't let anyone try to take that away from you. The freedom to grieve and love is one of the fundamentals of being human. To try to take that freedom away on a chimera of feigned hope and promises that cannot be filled, is inhuman.

"Celebrate your love for your Dad in every way you can. That is your right, your freedom, your humanness." and the context can be found here.

Atheism

By Van A. Harvey

Atheism, from the Greek a ("without") and theos ("deity"), commonly and loosely refers to the theoretical or practical denial of the existence of a deity. The concrete meaning of atheism has varied considerably in history: even the earliest Christians were labeled "atheists" because they denied the existence of the Roman deities. In Western culture, where monotheism has been the dominant mode of religious belief, atheism has generally referred to the denial of the existence of a transcendent, perfect, personal creator of the universe. To be an atheist need not mean that one is nonreligious, for there are "high" religions, such as Buddhism and Taoism, that do not postulate the existence of a supernatural being. Atheism should be distinguished from agnosticism, which means that one does not know whether or not a deity exists.

Monotheism has been so basic to and compounded with Western moral and philosophical beliefs as well as political institutions that until recently atheism has been widely believed to be both immoral and dangerous to society. Plato not only viewed atheism as irrational but argued that certain atheists deserved the death penalty. When Christianity finally became the dominant religion in the West, atheism and heresy were thought to be worthy of exile or death because, as Thomas Aquinas argued, it was a much more serious matter to corrupt the soul than to damage the body. Atheism was also dangerous to the political authority of Western monarchies that claimed to rest upon divine right. Even during the Enlightenment when the divine right of kings was challenged and religious toleration defended, John Locke, a staunch advocate of toleration, denied free speech to atheists on the grounds that they undermined and destroyed religion. It was not until 1869 that atheists were permitted to give evidence in an English court of law, largely as a result of the efforts of Charles Bradlaugh, who for a long time had not been permitted to take his seat in the House of Commons because of his beliefs.

The believability[sic] of atheism seems directly proportionate to the growth of the sciences and the emergence of humanism since the Renaissance. In the 19th century the biological sciences seemed to make theological explanations of the origins of the universe and of the emergence of humankind unnecessary. Particularly important were the writings of David Hume and Immanuel Kant, which established that attempts to prove the existence of God from the world order were invalid. In the mid-19th century, explicitly atheistic and humanistic systems of philosophy appeared. Ludwig Feuerbach, Karl Marx, Arthur Schopenhauer, and Friedrich Nietzsche [among a great many other great ment and women] were not only atheists but also militant critics of religion generally and of Christianity particularly. In the 20th century there have been influential atheistic thinkers who were Marxists, existentialists, Freudians, and logical positivists, although one may be any of these and not necessarily also an atheist.

Modern philosophical atheism is based on both theoretical and practical reasons. Theoretically, atheists argue either that there are no good arguments for believing in the existence of a personal deity, whether this deity be conceived of anthropomorphically or metaphysically, or that the statement God exists is incoherent or meaningless. The last type of logical criticism of theism is characteristic of logical positivism and analytic and linguistic philosophy. Practically, some atheists have argued, as did Nietzsche, that belief in a supernatural and supreme being requires a devaluation of this life; or, as Freud did, that the belief is an expression of infantile helplessness.

Hmmm... religion is an interesting topic for me...

I love researching all forms of religion. I like finding all the similarities. I was never really raised christian, though it was forced on me when I was younger.

For about a year I heavily researched the different forms of Satanism, and among that research I found the guide lines I now follow in life. The eleven satanic laws of the earth are basically the rules by which humans should live, following not the absolute pure nature God may wish, but that which we are born with.

Also, I should mention, though I think there is some god or power "above" so to speak, I do not care. Some call me agnostic for this, but that isn't quite right. Mostly because I do not question what, or who is above, I simply don't care about it at this point in my life.

Maybe some day I will follow some path, whether it be that of the something above, or perhaps The Lord Lucifer himself, I do not know.

If you ask a person do you believe people are meant to be monogamous or polyamorous you will likely get a different answer from everyone you talk to.
This is mostly based on their individual values, up bringing, and personal preferences.

For me Religion is no different... I think it is something we either believe in and thus aspire to achieve or it is an unknown that we deal with when we are forced to, but for the non believer it doesn't regulate that persons every day life.

In the end what ever set of values you choose to follow is a matter of personal preference, despite what any book tells you.

Modern religion is little more than a self-aggrandized cult. Spirituality is an entirely different matter. I've studied various belief systems over the years, and have my own heretical interpretation of what actually constitutes as a deity. Pursuit of raw, unadulterated knowledge, I believe, is the key to existence and bettering oneself. If another individual chooses ignorance, leave them behind.

Going your own path is the best way to go, that way you are free of indoctrination and the dogmatic view of religion. That does not mean you can't have faith in something though since belief is a powerful thing. Its what makes revolutions, wars and so on.

I will not state my religion as it's really no one's business. I strongly believe in God,and Jesus .Those who live a righteous life will have a pass through the heaven's gates. My faith and religion helps me become closer to God. The one who has gave me life, health, and soul. There are times when I question myself my faith. When I do question my faith I return to my book gaining more understanding and knowledge.
So many people especially atheist have stated religion has cause problems in this world. I disagree, religion is not the problem it's the people who use religion in the wrong stupidest way. There are good and bad apples in people and even in religion. There are people who have no understanding of religion and use it in the opposite way. Also don't try and tell me that are all atheistic are good . Which would be a myth. Like I said there are good and bad in humans even pagans, Wicca, and atheist.

I have not once judged someone 's religion expect satanism which creeps me out,. Other than that I respect all human kind and God's religion.I'm not God nor am higher than the human race. I have no place to judge someone for what they believe expect satanism. The beauty of North America is that we have the freedom of speech and more freedom than any other countries in the world.

If satanism creeps you out, you may find yourself bumping into it here since this site attracts many of the "dark" path users. Like you said though, there is good and bad in nearly all religion even satanism, as modern satanism is not about worshiping the devil or sacrificing virgins (they were too annoying anyway) but self improvement by removing the shackles of society. Even atheists can be a "satanist" as belief in a deity is irrelevant, its the spiritualism and becoming independent that is important.

Regardless, religion does tend to narrow one's view on the world whether you are good or bad, but free will is a right everyone has and if they choose to belong to a religion, well good for them but others can choose otherwise.

Sounds quite interesting halee, why don't you regale us with it? what is your religion about?

I find creating your own set of principals, ethics and rules to be effective and one can gain quite a following through it.

i think most know i am christian by now , but i dont like what christians are doing when they dont even follow the bible.
i mean most say that they are but then the sit and judge others that are not when jesus said he was for the sinner not thos that thought they knew it all. i dont clam to know much but what i do know is that there is a lot of misunderstanding about what a true follower of jesus is . for one thos who say your going to hell if you dont beleve . well thats a form of judgement . yes it says if you dont follow the ways of jesus or believe in his dieing that there is no hope for you . but thats not what they say they are saying if you sin your going there. so no smoking no drinking no bad talking to your parents , you get what i mean they are saying that thos things put you in hell . and that is just mixed words and they are trying to put words of God and make them there own . the best way to put it is HIs ways are not ours . So if we seek thos things that will bring only us good and only us happyness then yes we can not follow God. Thats why i would say one thing that God looks down on the most is how you treat your poor and here in the us the poor dont even get talked about . we are just another number that dont matter. I am not judging when i say i dont know its my what i think not what God thinks but how can we believe what we do when we can take care of our own people and we go other places and start wars that are not ours to fight. some may say we fight the good fight so that others dont have to . but you know what that is what we always have done . so why not religion i dont believe in it . nor do i think what i believe is a religion but a way of life . the only way to live is as if you are already dead . by that i mean nothing you or i can do to save our selves but we dont have to the price was paid for and thos that dont believe that might just have to pay for them selfs and what kind of money do you think thats going to coast . no money cant by happyness but it sure does buy a lot of things . and if thats what your into that go ahead and believe that dream that money can buy you every thing you need. well you know the old saying you cant take it with you and think about it whats safer believening now when your alive for a sure thing or after and take a big chance with your after life . just becasue you dont believe in something does not mean its not there . i know were i am going when i die and i can say with good saying that its not becasue of what i did when i was alive but becasue of what God did when He was on this earth with us. Some say well were is he , why has he not come back yet. well i believe its becasue if He came back at this time He would be sent right back to His own kingdom becasue we are still believeing that its us and that we have the power to change things to make things better . its been done befoe and we will do it again we keep trying to do something our bodies were just not made to do just as the devil did He was not built to be a God but he himself thoght of himself as one . or even better . some would say he is a god but they are only believeing in a lie . there are a lot of lies in this world and if people keep believeing in them they come to life and give life to a lie and it becomes not truth but something more a power all of its own to destroy things to kill and to put to death thos things we love.

Now now, don't be a spoil sport, you can completely live a fulfilled life and die well by being evil. Heh It really is quite an adventure, there's thrills, dangers and chaos.
No remorse and no limits to what you are capable of.

Another reason why religion tends to be narrow minded and limited, it stops everyone from truly taking hold of their destiny and prevents them from indulging in earth's pleasures. Why pray when you can pillage? why abstain when you can have all the sex you want? why be a pacifist when you can take what you want?

I respect people's beliefs but I find them too limiting, one must think of themselves, not anyone else and especially not about what is after death.

This I would agree with if you can find someone else who can match you. why be a pacifist when you can take what you want? If everybody thought like that, nobody would have anything. We'd all be paranoid.

I respect people's beliefs but I find them too limiting, one must think of themselves, not anyone else and especially not about what is after death.

I think that only thinking about oneself all the time could be just as limiting. You can be a considerate person and still lead a happy and fulfilling life.

True indeed but I view and offer things from the darker path, the selfish path.

One can indeed find life fulfilling by thinking others but that too is limiting as they can be a liability.

I follow a mostly Taoist path -

i was raised christian but figured out early some of the hypocrisy, looking into LaVay's satanism, which was interesting, tired being atheist - that didnt work at all for me, then started looking into the asian belief systems -

in the end i chose what worked for me rather than trying to force who i am into someone else's ideals

I was raised in the Presbyterian side of Christianity, but as I grew older, my tolerance for "organized religion" got to be less and less. I have faith, and I do indeed believe in a higher power. I do pray, I also believe in the supernatural. Why not? Is not God or whatever you call them nothing more than something else that is supernatural? If you believe in demons or devils or THE devil, you cannot have one without the other, or there would be no balance.

most of my views are paganistic, did the ritual of intent or what ever it was called for wicca but don't closely follow that path anymore and have just kind of decided to learn form all wakes of pagans and create my own path and i practice intuitive sorcery. I also believe in heaven and hell, but don't strive to get to either

Religion is useful when you have a sense of development, and advancement. They should be worn like hats. The gods do exist in very real ways, however if you have dealings with them in those tangible ways no religion is good. It will limit the interaction between the celestial forces and man/woman who would be doing the interactions.

Be it zues, or odin, or thor, or minerva, hekate, or belial if you have gnosis, consistant ritual interaction, even non ritual interaction then you probably have some kind of spiritual path that is beyond the rational and limitations of a labeled religion.

Mine is simple, push the systems of interaction with the celestial forces as much as possible. Thaumaturgical Magic and alchemy without limitations of dogma.

Nowadays I don't actively practise any religion. I just follow my own moral code regarding right and wrong, good and evil etc

I suppose if I had a religion I would be Buddist as it seems to have a balanced viewpoint in regards to life, death, ying/yang etc which appeals to me personally.

While I was sent to the local Southern Baptist church on Sundays, religion was never really a major part of growing up for me. As such, I was able to be exposed to many faiths.
I want to believe in something, but religions/myths don't make rational sense to me...interesting stories with no concrete foundations. Plus, I question everything. Does that make me an Agnostic? I don't know.
With that being said, I am still fascinated with religions/myths. I like to study them and compare them for my own interests.

I love religion, I think it can be crazy and beautiful at the same time.
I believe that behind all religions is the idea of respecting yourself and others. Obviously there are many other things involved as well, but this is the main message, and how can anyone disagree with respecting yourself and others. And even if you aren't religious, this is still something that you follow for the most part.
Personally I have learned about Christianity, Catholicism, Mormons, buddhism, Umbanda, etc. And still the main thing for me is to be respectful to all things. I don't believe that any religion is wrong.
I understand that many disagree with a religion that is used to control people, but at that point is it still a religion or a belief? (There is a difference)

Personally if I were to choose a religion to follow it would most likely be Sikhism, it is about peace at all cost, and loving and accepting all people and ways of life even if they are different from your own. However there are still many strict rules to the religion, but I think it is one that is the most accepting.

My last Path was non-mystical Taoism. I found it really helped me separate religion from spirituality.

I am an Eclectic Wiccan, which is funny because my mom is a die-hard Catholic. She was terrified when she found out that I was practicing Wicca, but once I explained it to her, she was okay with it. Wow that was shorter than I thought it'd be. Oh well. Thanks for reading! ~Leda

I come form a Roman Catholic family but never really liked the church

I believe all religions have their good points and all their gods and after death realms exist somewhere. I don't discriminate and accept the theology of anyone while creating the mixture of what I believe

my beliefs can be similar to Wicca but I identify as an intuitive sorceress, which basically means I do forms of magic rooted in emotional energy

im conflicted...i consider myself asatru...but now too long ago some of the gods of kemet (ancient egypt) seem to have tugged at my sleeve...
not sure what that makes me, but it feels right for me at least.

I'm Jewish but not very religious. Even though I'm not religious, I feel it's not something I want to throw away. I love my cutural background and it's part of who I am.

I was raised Christian with strong Roman Catholic influences. I practiced Paganism, namely Wicca for about eleven years. I've studied up on Buddhism and Theistic Satanism. I was atheist, agnostic and then Christian again. So, I've been all over the board with my belief structure.

However, I don't associate myself with any religion these days. I guess if you had to categorize me, I would be agnostic again. But even then, I'm not so sure. I want to believe in something, but I can't unless said something gives me proof of its existence. It's hard for me to hold faith in anything anymore, though I do try.

I do, however, adhere to the belief that you should be able to hold faith in whatever you so desire, so long as it makes you a better person. No one should ever be prosecuted for their religious beliefs. Faith is a personal thing, no one can ever say you're wrong for believing as you do, or do not, depending.

The line is crossed when faith, and belief lead to practices that cause harm, or violate the rights, and freedoms of others.

i identify as pagan, mainly because my religion is a bit different than Wicca. i dont judge but if you judge me im definitely not going to just sit there and take it. i dont agree with shoving religion down anyones throat and i dont take kindly to people who sit there and preach to me constantly especially if they do it over and over despite my expressed dislike

I am a Christian but, due to many personal reasons, am not involved with a church or The Church. I think both are filled with hypocrites, so I am a church of one. :)

I am a Christian. I believe in a higher power, and am true to my faith. I do not believe though that I must go to church to be strong in my faith.

I have studied many religions~Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism and Yoga. They all seem to have one very important and central theme which is respect and Love. I consider myself to be ecclectic. I believe it is our relationship with our higher power or Spirit that is important~not the religion that itself.
