Today is World AIDS Day and not only is HIV/AIDS a major health issue for the general population of the world but also the Vampire community. For those of you who partake in the drinking of blood, you would think that having your donor tested would be mandatory. Ive never known anyone with AIDS/HIV but I know that in todays society some people still think "It would never happen to me."
So my question is this...
What precautions do you take if any or do you just take the donor at their word?
I think that no matter what a blood drinker should protect themselves at all costs, know their donor and know their medical history..... aids isn't the only disease that can be transmitted by blood. I wouldn't take their word for it, as untrustworthy as that sounds... how many victims of aids became that way because they trusted their sexual partner..
Good topic!
As for Donors, I only take those very, very close to me as candidates.
Also, being more of an energy feeder myself, it makes it a LOT more safe.
since most "donors" are also sexual partners then I feel like I a mostly safe... discretion is the answer
I mkae sure to only feed from one or two people, they are honest from what i knw because ive known them long
In this world today there are so many dangers. I think that if you are going to drink someones blood, you must make sure they have been tested recently and that they give you proof of it. Not only that, you should make sure they get tested on a regular basis. So many people lie and you don't want to end up with a life threatening illness because you wanted to trust someone.
I am very cautious with who I have as a donor. I make sure that they get tested by either going to a Dr and get the necessary testing done or donate a pint of blood....and I make sure that I am the only one taking from them. If they are being shared by more than just me, I stop instantly and find another donor..
As much as precautions are good, and never a bad thing to take when it comes to AIDS/HIV, never think that even if someone is close to you, they will not have it. You will find that most people that have AID/HIV, would think it is their duty to let others know, but in all truth, they are too afraid or ashamed, aside from a select few, to tell even their close and trusted ones. Secondly, drinking blood isn't a direct risk for AIDS/HIV. If it goes into your stomach, that is no problem. Rather, if you have bleeding gums or open sores in the mouth, then it is cause for concern. Even though, I've said that, it is most important to get your donors tested and get YOURSELF tested once a month.
well i only take the blood of one doner as it is my other half and i deam myself safe with her as she sayes she has been tested but i guess it is still a game of trust that all us feeders play but i feel that if u cant trust ur partner then who can u
I'm of the opinion that the ONLY way to assure absolute safety is not to drink someone else's blood. If you must perhaps it can be obtained from a hospital or blood bank! Of course I'm sure that raises a number of legal issues
I agree with alot of what was said. HIV will soon be the 3rd diease to kill in this country. I would go to the hospital and have a pint of my own blood taken if not more and reserve it.

A casual friend blood donor?
Hmmm.. an entirely new twist on "friends with benefits."
Obviously AIDS is still a huge concern for the population at large. The only way to absolutely prevent transmission is to avoid other people's bodily fluids entirely.
Another of the many reasons why blood drinking seems so... foreign a concept to me. From every angle I look at it, it just doesn't seem like a good idea. At all.
Yes it is important to make sure that your donors are tested for HIV. Then make sure that they are not involved in any behaviors that would put them at risk to get HIV. Remember that you can get HIV and not know you have it even if tested for up to three months since that is how long it takes to show up on the test.
first off you should always test you'r donner as well as you'r self alot of goverment agiencies offer the test for free. second point for the last post you can drink about a pint befor you vomite.
Ive noticed a few of you are taking the word of someone you feel you know very well, this poses another thought, many people get cheated on by someone they trusted also many people gets disease from people that didnt know they had it. Anyway just a thought.
As a vampire who does partake in drinking blood, I know that for myself, I have one requirement of a donor: get blood work done so that we can BOTH be sure there is nothing to be worried about. I also get blood work done once a year, and upon request of a donor. I feel that in order to keep yourself healthy, you have to take that precaution. I would never take a donor at their word, just because they could have something and not even know it. I value my health over my need for blood.
Another thing to think about is getting yourself checked for esophageal tearing or ulcers. The lining of the mouth and throat, as well as stomach acids, are ment to kill infections before entering the blood stream. Although AIDS and HIV are extremely deadly diseases, they are not greatly infectious. If someone with HIV scratches themself a mile away from you, you won't get HIV. If someone sneezes a mile away, you will more than likely get their cold. My uncle died of AIDS so I did take some time to study the disease. If there is any thought in your mind that you will have sex with your donor, have them tested, as well as yourself. I have had my donors tested, every time.
I think that the Only way to be Absolutely safe with donors is to not only use donors that are close to you but, to also make sure that the donors are checked Regularly.
HIV/AIDS isnt the big killer it once was. The gay community had to learn long ago how to protect ourselves and to educate others in the community many now are living with this disease and have been for 20 or better years. There are two types of HIV, HIV1 and HIV type 2 of the two HIV type 2 is the one at this time that is deadly it doesnt respond to treatments. There are many more blood born diseases out there besides HIV and many of them are just as bad and sometimes worse then HIV..
I havent drank any blood in a number of years so well the drinking of blood wouldnt be a downfall for me just want people out there to know the risks when dealing with blood...
As someone stated earlier, it can take up to 3 months for it to show. It's my understanding though that it can take up to 6 months. My only suggestion would to WAIT the duration until you know for sure.
This is where I think finding a life partner to feed off is recommended rather then a casual. If a casual is casualing you then the casual is probably casualing someone else. ;)
Very interesting to see the amount of people that trust despite not having tests done. They very well may not have the disease but are simply too afraid to get the test done just in case it turns out they do. FEAR is what prevents a lot of people taking the test. FEAR is the driving force to tell you they're okay. It could be the make or break of any relationship. It's definately something that needs to be discussed and encouraged to do.
I don't take many donors, I have two or three people that give blood for me, and I know their health and all very well. I wouldn't let someone be a donor to me if I didn't fully trust them with my life.
if i have a donor it would be my partner and being such we would both be tested for hiv/aids
Perhaps there are those who don't understand the potential exposure to blood borne pathogens. Ingesting blood from someone is as physically intimate (with respect to disease) as sex. Ask any tattoo artist (worth seeing) and they can tell you about the dangers of Hepatitis and HIV.
An STD test is the only answer. I require a recent one. I know I am healthy, so should my doner and lover. It is the only way to protect oneself, nowadays. And it's not just HIV any more. Hepatitis is a huge problem. Careful, my lovelies, and get tested!
I know it may be seen by some as not trusting someone when it comes to HIV and other infectious diseases...but perhaps I percieve things a little differently.
I would never even concider a donor that didn't have regular checkups with the doctor. Especially if they are at risk for disease. Anyone who is sexually active, I feel, has to be feeling invinvible to not be having these tests done regularly.
I can't stand when people lack caution, especially with something so delicate. You want to end your sex life really fast- just try dating someone when your first words are, "Hi, I'm John. I'm a really nice guy, I love walks in the park, and I'm HIV positive."
Believe me, it doesn't work out so well.
Thus, in conclusion, I think it's a good idea to get tested regularly, and make sure everyone you associate with ( donor, or sexual partner ) is tested as well.
You only have to slip up once.
That's all it takes.
And for the record, yes, it can take months for certain things to show up in testing. It's best to be patient in this life. Give it time, and get them tested.
Everytime I have ever drank from a donor, I have made sure to go with them to a doctor and have them tested for major known diseases, I know them well as a friend and a person, and make sure everything is done precise and sterile
I have not fed off of anyone yet if I do they best have papers saying they have a clean bill of health love or friendship I feel you should still protect yourself from any harm It would be total acidnine not to . JUST HOW I feel. There are so many diseases out there why put yourself or someone else through the pain and suffering of getting sick.
It took me a while to post something on this issue as it touches home personally for me. My brother died of AIDS in 1993 and I don't think there's anything I can say to you that would discribe the pain it brought him and the sadness we still suffer from this. I have been keeping an eye on your posts responses and I'm happy to know that you are all taking the necessary precautions to keep yourself safe. Please remember you might have an unseen infection in your gums, your throat or inside your body that you are not aware of. You may have a cut that has gone unoticed. There are alot of things you really need to be watching out for and I hope you know your donors really well and everything about them as far as who they sleep with and maybe even who else they donate blood too? Please be safe there is absolutely no turning back on this one.
After doing a little more research I found that young people (15-24 years old) account for half of all new HIV infections worldwide - around 6,000 become infected with HIV every day. And By the end of the year, an estimated 39.5 million people worldwide will be living with HIV/AIDS. The year 2006 alone saw around three million deaths from AIDS.
If these numbers arent enough to make people want to get their donors tested, I don't know what is.
I would have to agree with skylla on this one. I would not just use anyone as a donor. It would have to be someone I knew and trusted. It would have to be someone I knew was clean. Just like my seual partners I would be very picky.
some great info on HIV here, but I feel a greater threat is actually hepatitis C, which is FAR more virally active, they are both very dangerous diseases, but the likelihood of contracting hep-c is far greater with only a very minor blood exposure
but as has been stated, in todays society to not be tested or to not have your donor tested is simply folly
I ensure that both myself and my partenr are both safe....for both our safety
It is actually really comforting for me to know that I'm not the only one out there who thinks of these things.
I recently had a run in where I thought I had caught a nasty little disease from a really stupid action ( a.k.a picking up at a bar in a foreign country ). This little scare opened my eyes wide to how easy it would have been to catch something serious.
Trust becomes an issue after you get your partner of any sort tested. After you've had your initial test, if you can trust the person, go ahead. Just remember that it's your ass on the line.
I just urge that everyone be careful. If your partner has issues with being tested, that sets off alarms in my head. What's wrong with this person if they can't even concider both your safety as well as their own??
I would have to agree with Daermon hep c is also a major concern! Although just as they have with hiv, they are making break throughs with it. I have a best friend with hep c! She has had to go thru alot through out her life. She was born with it. However thru all the medication & things she has gone thru, she no longer active hep c. Sorry can't think of the correct wording, but she will always have it & it will affect her, but even thru unprotected sex she does not spread it. She went thru some sort of experimental testing while she was in the military, but so far, for her it works. She still has to live with the affects, liver problems, etc. I'm rambling, sorry! My point is that there are alot of diseases out there that are very deadly. Right now we are not advanced enough medically to take the risk & go thru all that. So please get your partner or whoever you feed from tested. In my opinion it's the safest way, if you must feed.
i dont partake in drinking of blood .... but if i did i would want to protect myself by makeing sure the donor was clean and free from diseases .... and if i was to offer my own blood i would also want to make sure i was clean and free from diseases to not pass anything on to anyone else.... in this day and age it is so hard to trust anyone.... even for instance if your single and find a new partner i belive you need to protect yourself because your not only sleeping with them your sleeping with everyone they slept with and so on......i strongly belive you shouldnt take someones word for it but do get the proof in your hands because its your life .......
I get to know them and make sure that have nothing. and I get tested when Im able to so.
There is always that risk of diseases. However; one should always take the precautions.
I know for myself, I have two individuals that I know is safe and those are the two I feed from. I don't pick just random people. Generally if I am attracted to someone and they show an interest in feeding me, then we make sure they are clean. I don't and wont take chances. Also I draw energy from via PSI, so I am protected that way as well.
as far as i'm concerned, if you're going to drink someones blood you need to get a STD test AND a drug test (you never know what some people take. you could drink their blood and if they've taken anything *wierd* then you could be in serious trouble). and you should do a test on it each and every time you drink it, b/c it only takes 1 time to get an STD
any donor i have as well as myself are checked regularly, you cant be too careful in this day and age, whether they are for sanguine feeding or pranically.
DEFINATLY check the donor's medical records... Just to be safe go get them checked out yourself. Better to be safe then dying of aids don't ya think? My friend tested HIV positive and he thinks it may be from one of his past donors.
well cadamia, I would expect a better question from somone who has been on this site as long as you, We are not the Hollyweird undead immortals after all, bloodborn illness we are all quite susceptible to.
I would be careful when it comes to blood. Someone very close to me got Hep C from blood donor and with various other medical problems that this lead too she passed away last year.
If someone is serious about being my donor I have them tested first. I have found that you can go to your local blood bank or a blood drive & donate blood. They automatically do all the proper testing & if they find anything wrong they will send you a letter. Best of all, it is free this way & you may be helping someone who needs your blood at a later date.
Although i do not partake in the drinking of blood.. I do agree with many of you.. Testin gis the only way to ensure your safety as well as your donors.. THey light not even know they have it, I am tested everytimei have blood drawn.. I request it.. It can take up to 5 YEARS for this to arrise.. and like Daermon said Hep C is another worry.. There are many viruses out there that can kill or permanantlly damage you.. Its best to take care and be very cautious..
If most of you are smart just like in the porn industries all the actors carry a card with them stating that they have been checked and are free of hiv but hiv is not the only disease that you can get through blood and if your willing to take the risk go for it.
They would have to be a very trusted friend... Even then I would still be wary.
i would never drink blood, from someone else, even if they are tested sometimes diseases like AIDS and hepatitus C dont show up for awhile in a blood screen, and is still contractable
Human and animal blood are thick with diseases. If one is not immortal, and you're not, one should refrain from it. Getting AIDS and dying would be a rough wake-up for those with this kind of delusion.
^shes right....there can be something you have no idea about somewhere along to your stomache where acids do take care of things....but like she said unseen infetions or cuts is what you have to worry about so why not just be safe and make sure that your intake of others blood is from someone that has in fact been tested for AIDS or HEP C or any other disease for that matter
Since I am not a blood drinker I'm not sure what the norm is. I would treat a donor like a sexual partner and make sure they were tested.
I belive the donor should be someone you have gotten close to and know beyond a doubt that they are safe.
blood only coagulates when it begins to dry, if u have a cup full of blood the blood in the center has not started to coagulate
and hepatitus C can remain active for 30 days after it becomes touched by air
I know my donors and if there are any questions about a "newbee", I have them tested.
Ether you are the donor or the receiver, both should be tested every 6 month, cause the disease stay dormant in some ppl, so its just having good sens to get tested and have the other tested, its not a game its a reality.
This is a very good topic. Lots of good points made. Everyone should be safe & concerned about their health & the health of others when partaking in such actions.
I would not wish to see anyone become seriously ill. I had a friend who had AIDS and how it dissapated their life slowly. I wish not to see that again.
Please, all be careful!!!
I find that amazingly enough, certain animals carry less contaminants than human donors. So if you are in that much need, there are alternatives.
Always better safe than sorry! Error on the side of caution find out exactly what the risks are and protect yourself by knowing your donors and their medical history.
i just wonder if anyone is thinkin bout malaria or chronapsis or trichina/hepatitis/etc? no ready tests for those.. esp the parasite versions??
D
i myself really don't like the game russian rulette!! so i know without any questions they are clean donors; and any newbies come in they all have to show proof that they r just as clean. other wise go and kill someone else. there r alot of ppl out there today in life who do not care if they give the desease to someone else cause they r already infected.
I Make sure that my donors have all been tested twice in a 12 month period. And then every 6 months after that. I am very careful especially since there are so many diseases out there. I am a Saftey girl
Hah! Yeah. I personally wouldn't take from anyone unless I saw a clean bill of health signed by a doctor in their hand first.
Most "houses" have very strict rules regarding donors and up to date testing. It's hard on your own to force someone to go get a test unless they are completely willing and have a genuine interest in being a loyal donor to you.
My thought's would be to join a house if you want full protection, they don't mess around when it comes to that.
I agree with what most people have said on here. You should be very selective with ur donor. They should be tested and even then think to yourself...would i have sex with them? if not then u might want to find a new donor because i belive they are equally dangerous and would even say an equally intimite expierence in most cases.
I think that taking the donor for granted and only their word is just plain stupid...If it is your first contact, even if it is a sexual partner, have them checked out! They might have something not even they know about it! There are so many cases of HIV infection because one of the partners never knew it had it, that trusting one's word on this is not so reliable anymore!
Before I consider taking a donor in, I get to know them prior to asking if they will even be my donor. I let them know that I am looking for one, but I never let them know until it's time. Along with the standard blood tests for them, as well as yourself, also get a doctor's note from their doctor stating what medications they are on. A very good idea considering the fact that the prescriptions go into the blood stream, when you take from them, you also get those same perscriptions and if you are taking something the two(+) could cause a potentionally life threatening interaction. It is also wise to know how much they drink, what recreational things they engage in, and so on and so forth because it all transfers to you when you take from your donor.
Tests and Time before the actual act. I need to now the person for a while and as it is we both get a test as a sign of good will. And as stated above me you need to know all there meds and rec activities
Wow I was so happy to see this thread!!! As I have said in another thread have not drank blood YET! But this is awesome cause as me being a LPN I wondered if everyone was taking the right precautions, and you all are. Clix i would like to say Im very sorry to hear that as I have lost a close family member to by aids....And Mikhail thank you for clarifying the difference between the 2 cause not many people know that. Awesome thread!!!!!
I apreciate the deepness of this post. I for one, do not take many precautionary steps, bu I usually stay in a small cirlce of people whom I know well for blood.
As I said in a previous thread, the only blood I drink is my own. Far too many people I have seen have problems. As far as I'm concerned, the last thing I need is residual backwash.
Since my blood donors and sexual partners are one and the same I have a fairly small network that I revolve in as well.
Like Illuminati, CLIX, BlackLilyL33T, Valaharae, DarkFallenAngelOfSinJas, and I am sure many others.....
I have a family member with AIDS. He is my closest cuzin and he was diagnosed at the age of 21. I have watched him live with it for a year. Yes, he is gay.... But that is not why he got it, he simply was not cautious enough! I have watched him deteriorate and I am the only one in my family who doesnt hate him for both being gay and having AIDS.
I am very careful about the contact that I have with him. Although I know that I cannot get it thru saliva, I do not kiss him, in case one or both of us has a cut on our lips or mouth or what have you. I also do not eat or drink after him for that same reason.
I make sure that whoever I am with is tested constantly, and I get tested often myself. I know that it doesnt always show up right away, so I keep testing to make sure.
I know that this date has past, but I wanted to bring this thread back to the top, to keep people aware of the problem that is occuring daily, right under their noses....
STOP THE EPIDEMIC! GET TESTED!
I think it should be mandatory for all donars and drinkers to get blood tests. donars more often. but its inportant. it your health and for me I wouldnt risk anything knowing that my health is in danger.
Im a RN and I tell you the most important thing is to protect yourself. You hear all the time about people risking their lives for others...That is fine just use your head when you do it.
Well I would think the easiest thing to do, is for one not just drink from anyone, I think it should be a special thing between to people not just a random person, and if you follow that idea I mean come on its not that hard to go and get tested to make sure you and your partner are clean *shrugs* but that is just my personal view...
Well, to avoid acquiring the virus, I would recommend MONOGAMOUS relationships. Before you even try to sample her blood, develop a close bond. Both of you get tested, and then if both are clear and free, go for it. The risks are just too high to NOT take protective measures.
Any partner, whether a blood donor or sexual partner, should be tested. It is better safe then sorry.
ANd you should NEVER take a persons word for it.....no matter how much you think you know them!
Regardless of how well you think you are protecting yourself there is still a chance of contracting a disease or virus, some can have incubation periods of up to 10 years. Many good points to this thread but still appears to be some that are uninformed. The only sure way is to use your own, that of your significant other, or abstain.
I don't drink, but if and when I do I would make it my top priority to know what i was bring to my lips
I agree with one of the first posts about HIV/Aids not being the only health concern to watch for.
I have lupus myself and can't be a donor of any sort because it is also transmitted through blood. Making me incapable of donating my blood in any way.
So make sure you get a FULL medical history of your donor.
I was born with a blood disease, I get tested every 3 months. I have my medical records at hand if I choose to delve into the blood letting. I haven't this far into my life. I think it should be shared with a person I love, honor, and above all trust, and yes, he'd have to have medical documents stating he's disease free and not just AIDS/HIV. I am disease free and want a partner that is as well. Being newly single again, this dating thing scares me for that simple reason!!
~Z~
Yes ZorayaAurora. It's very scary, I think about it often. Being with someone knew, testing for me is not enough.
I simply stopped taking a doner. Thats the safest way for me.
Everyone should always take many precautions...I always personally know my donors and have them tested...blood is an eternal wine and must be treated just as carefully...
My only donor is my wife, and we both stay tested. There are definitely other things you can get besides HIV.
Death is right arond the corner, there'smuch safer ways. memnoch666
you need to be care ful even if you get tested things can still be there
to me blood drinking is a very intimate act and i wouldn't take blood from a person unless i was absolutely sure that they are clean and disease free, also i wouldn't take blood from a person unless i was absolutely sure i was in love with them. im not the type of person who has multiple partners. im very loyal and i would hope that that person would be as well in order to sustain the pureness of the relationship as well as both person's health.
drinking blood is like oral sex, u eat pussy and suck, drink from both without protection then fuck w a condum, why when w/ oral sex u got an std already.
Many people under 20 go around with STDs, have unprotected sex with multiple partners, have been infected with an STD before and been treated, and don't knowwhat STDs are, how they are contracted, drink alcohol and take drugs to excess and don't care......sound like a nightmare? The above was noted on medical intake of juveniles in a detention center by an RN responsible for for intake for the facility. With all the adds and horror stories there are a lot of people who just don't give a shit about their life, and they out there waiting to infect you.
I would have to say that taking time to know your donor would be the best thing to do.
I like the idea of the blood bank... Perhaps, we could create our own I wonder if the red cross franchises? Otherwise I may have to return to animal blood filling but not very tasty....
well even if you have both been tested as ppl have sed ppl cheat on others so i guess even between the tests you have to have some trust in your donor to be fateful espesh if it is your partner
