I'm not sure...What the terms give me is that a curse can be lifted, but if you're damned you're pretty much in for it definitely.

Well, here's just a hypothesis:

Let's say you believe Heaven and Hell exist.

You're a good person throughout your life, but at some point and time someone put a curse on you for some stupid reason or maybe you made a minor mistake somehow and a curse fell upon you. You can still go to Heaven when you die.

Being damned means you're going straight to Hell, no if's and's or but's about it.

Again, just a hypothesis.

Damnation is the state of being destined for hell or something along those lines. Being damned is something you're either born with or you bring upon yourself. There's usually nothing you can do about being damned either.

I agree, that seems to be their scope. Damnation is removed through repentance and atonement, or cleansing the soul. While curses are said to take only the appropriate ritual, rite, prayer or anointing to remove. Though, some curses are stickier than others. lol

being damned is your own damned fault - it's something you brought on yourself. being cursed may not be your fault at all, it's something that afflicts you. a curse is something that harms you now, whereas damnation is something the future has in store for you. eh eh.

In the literal sense I'd say that being damned is specifically your immortal soul's sentence for wrongs committed, whereas being cursed in addition to not necessarily being fair or just could be punishment handed out by anyone with the power to do so to you now, to you later, to your children or your family or even every generation hereafter.

I would think cursed would apply to something inflicted, whlle damned would be something more inherent -- something carried through an entire family line, for instance.

A curse is put on you either justly or not. It affects you during your coproeral life. Once you die the curse is lifted, but depending on the curse may carry over in the lives of your descendants. A curse can also be removed either through the one who placed the curse or through other means.

To be Damned is to be prohibited from entering heaven. To be sentanced to Hell for eternity. Damnation occures by just cause...i.e something bad you did during your life. It is impossed by the diety, not by another human. It can only be removed by the diety.

An example:

I am apparenty cursed to have to suffer through poor spelling, lack of grammar, disjointed thoughts and illogical arguments. If I want to read the forums on VR I must suffer this curse.

If, after I pass from this world, I find that evryone I encounter talks in nonscense and I am forced to read the VR forum for eternity...The I will know I was damned.

Being cursed is similar to the werewolf. They bite and your infected. You didn't chose for it to happen it just did. Being damned is just the opposite.

This is just my opinion, not an actual definition or anything.

Cursed - An ill fate sent to you from another person.

Damned - An ill fate brought upon yourself by doing/commiting negative deeds.

Im gonna make this real simple without all the detail.
Being cursed is fate brought upon you threw revence or some other purpose.
Being damned is also a fate but is far worse then a curse it is the end of life and happiness and lasts eternally a curse can often be reversed or countered, and even broken.

the way I see it a curse can be broken or lifted but if you are damned then you are pretty much done it would take something big to redeem yourself to not be damned anymore.

The main difference that came to mind when I read your question s that you EARN being damned... cursed you may or may not deserve. Be damned is a result of your direct actions. Cursed is something that another does to you for reasons of their own.

Here's my two cents worth.

A curse is something that you were given, either through bloodlines or because you pissed someone off.

Being damned is a status that was predestined from your birth. Being damned is something you can do nothing about, while being cursed you can usually do something about IF you know who placed it and can appease them.

I think there is alot of differance between the two. As another said in here a curse can be lifted after receiving foregiveness from the person placing it and damnation can be too but I'm not no physolosophist. That is a religious matter there so Yes there is a differance.

CURSED~ Being cursed is threw a bloodline, your forefathers did a bad sin to the wrong person and was cursed threw his family line untill that deed was brought to amends...

DAMNED~ Being damned is different, it is where the person sold his sole to the devil for some kind of reward (power, fortune, etc.) and they then have to abide to the devils wishes...

I've always viewed being cursed, like severe bad luck. You could be cursed for the whole or part of your life, but a curse can sometimes be broken or you could die...which would, of course, be a sort of breaking. Being damned, however, is a title more fit to give someone that this state would follow them throughout their whole, or part, of their life...then also into the afterlife.

I think damned means you are to spend eternity in hell, or to never die possibly. And cursed is just an unfortunate series of events.

I would say that the difference is thus...

cursed- someone/thing who wishes you ill transmitts their ill feeling which manifests itself as bad luck or similar, this can be combatted by breaking the curse (by a spell or some othe rpschic protection) or seeking forgiveness for whatever you have done to afflict the curser

damned- A higher power combined with your own actions has put a proverbial black mark upon your soul- marking you for a not too pleasant afterlife. It is as difficult to remove damnation as to suffer it in the first place. Final, or 'self sacrifice' is one way, as is seeking absolvency or repaying your sins.

Well according to a Christian Minister in my town, I am damned and going to Hell. I just laugh at the thought since I don't believe in Hell.

Personally I would see being damned a curse in and of itself.

according to a friend of mine its the same thing....but in my opinion, being cursed is having a negative effect placed upon you, usually for extended periods of time, and being damned is being destined to go to hell after death....

Cursed is when an evil entity puts a hex on you that can be removed or follow you until death. At death the curse dissappears.
Damned is brought upon yourself by your own actions. A person can repent or make amends and possibly avoid eternal damnation.
Of course it depends on what your religious or spiritual beliefs are.

They are different words with different meanings. a curse is put on you by a person or thing and doesnt mean you are going to hell. whereas if you are damned it is because of your actions you are going to hell. in both cases salvation may be possible, however with damnation this is not always possible.
