i was just wondering what your thoughts are on night magick ,is useing magick at night time stronger then during the day or does it not matter

Perhaps you could take a look at the earth's magnetics..it might hold an answer for you.

I personally feel that it is different for each person. Some people identify better with the night and others with the daytime. Some just can go either way.

Its mostly based on what pulls you.

My latest obsession is in regards to the Third Eye - which is most likely the pineal gland and is influenced by light and dark. When it is dark, the pineal gland is stimulated to produce melatonin - a chemical that helps regulate sleep. I would think, then, that it's night time that magic is more powerful.

i had already thought of that, and as well as your strength with power and all but would the moon do different then the sun for magick

While I personally have never noticed a change in the amount of power I have, I would imagine that it is based on each person and how they are. For some the day, the light, may hold more power than the darkness and the night.

There are threads in here dealing with the power of the moon but I will relate it to your question as to the association of its power in comparison to the sun.

The moon has a much stronger pull on the Earth's water, and in turn human's biochemistry. This would suggest that the moon has a stronger influence on the actual workings of magic.

The Sun is a dwarf star in our galaxy and definitely not the center of the universe but it does hold the earth in its gravitational pull. It is not necessary for light to maintain life on Earth, but the heat and energy it produces are required ingredients.

So, basically, to start with you really need the Sun, and then to manipulate, you need the Moon.

i think it depends highly on the person doing the majick. the phases of the moon. and the type of majick

For me I know that at night I am more in tuned with my emotions. This might be because I am much less distracted than during the day. I tend to overreact to situations and emotions at night. I am not sure if this would have anything at all to do with people choosing the night for magic and other rituals. I actually find the best time for me to focus energy is as the sun is rising in the mornings.

Gaius - that's interesting. That, in reality, should be the absolute optimum time for magic (either sunset or sunrise) as both the strongest Astrological bodies are in the sky at the same time, and at the same "level" as the practitioner.

I can cast spells as easily and with pretty much the same results in day as well as night. But as I am far more attuned to the night I find it feels more "right" to do so at night. But then that may be cause if I had my way I would never see the sun lol.

I do not know about casting spells,but the will can be shaped and "cast" at any time of the day or night.but twilight and dawn seem to be the most productive times for me.

performing spells at night doesn't make a differance in how strong the magic is. the whole reason behind it starrted during the burning times and the witch hunt years. pagans did there cerimonies at night tohide from persecution and being killed.... except for the fullmoon rites thats a night thing.... anyway, the potency of a spell is dictated by how much of your heart and energy you but into the spell

The information given is great, I just believe that different magicks have a different influence from times of day.

night magick is powerful especially during the full moon

Magic has do with the person more than the time of day. Some of us are dark hearted so I would guess that night magic would be more useful for us. And for those that are sweet and kind hearted the day light hours might be more suited to them....

I dont think it makes a difference if u use magick at night or during teh day. It all depends on teh persons ability and power

now how about those who are practiceing

Maybe it just all depends on what one practices.Elements have their own vibration sigs too.The effects of gravity and magnetices might just have something to do with it.That is if one is using outside things like candles,herbs or whatever.

I would think it would depend on the person. If they are more attracted to the night, then perhaps performing magick at night would add more power to it.

Having cast both at night and during daylight hours, I have to say that there are some times during the night that seem to provide better results.

Some know these times to be the "witching hour"....although for me the "witching hour" lasts for more than 3 hours.

I have found that spells cast between 11.28pm and 3.13am work better than others.

For me, the moon represents the core of my magickal energies, which in turn makes me feel as though performing magick at night is far more successful than that done during the day. I also follow the goddess Nyx, who is a night deity, so that also makes me more likely to do night related magick or other magicks during the night time.

is there different types of magick thats better in the day and in night?

i personally do all my spells and rituals at night to work with the moon.

I think for some it could be, if they feel more powerful themselves during the night. For some it might be Dawn.

I think its just as strong no matter what time you use it.

Similar to the idea of the Soul (covered in an abundant number of threads) magic should somehow be defined first before we can decide when best to use it.

It is personal to those who practice "magic" and so it would be difficult to set a standard. Yet we have standards for everyday processes. And thus we enter on another thread currently under fire - Mediocrity.

If we look at magic as less than a religion, and more of a common place science - less of metaphysical and more mundane, then we can determine a standard.

Astronomically speaking, the Sun and Moon both have very strong effects on Earth, her weather and inhabitants, and core and water. When one is in the sky, ruling the day or night, as it were, the other is in resignation. Therefor the most logical time of day to have a very powerful effect on human will and change would be when both celestial bodies are present and directly effecting the practitioner. This, then, would be at either twilight - sunrise or sunset.

I practice magick rarely, but when I do it is with the moon in the night sky.

the time that fits you is the one that matters. I practice at night because I'm connected more with night do to my sun allergy.
I have more energy at night as well.

it is diferent and you are working with different energies compared to the solar hours there are different correspondences for the different times of hours,days.

In all actuality, the time of day has very little to do with the effectiveness of magik. Sure, some paths, such as Wicca, rely on the presence of the moon for effectiveness. But all in all, it's more about your Will then the presence of any given celestial body.

As a side note, the tradition of practicing magik at night has come about because there is no privacy practicing during the day, especially when one wants to work skyclad.

It is indeed easier for the average practitioner to draw from a particular source, such as the moon. When working "dark" magik (and I use the term loosely, as most of what people today know as dark majik is fluffy BS) then the ritual should contain indications as to exactly what time to perform it. Many rituals have very definite paramaters as to when they need to be worked.

Personally, my first ever ritual was supposed to be done under a full moon (not to mention it was the fluffiest ritual I ever did in my life). I however, being young and impervious, performed it midday during the dark of the moon. The backlash was tremendous, and only recently have I truly been able to begin to finally deal with all of the undesired effects. It forever changed my life, and I cannot undo it.

However, the experienced practitioner soon discovers that it is merely a matter of energy, and one can attune the energies of a particular place to what one needs. However, it does tend to take a great deal more energy to do it this way, sometimes 3 times what one would need otherwise.

Well I think it depends on your personality, what you feel is right, and what sort of magick you're practicing.

I think any magic has to on a number of different circumstances being true or false, to make it work powerfully:
Time of Day
Moon cycle
Weather
Planetary positions
Where you are
What type of spell
All of these and a lot more things affect the power of spell.

i believe the emotion and desire for the magic is what enables the power, not the time of day.

i think it all depends on what you feel more comfortable with, as has been aforementioned, some people associate better with darkness as i myself do, quiet, soundless, no disturbences, and a seamless transition from one hour to the next, helps me focus my "minds eye" and clears my head thus forth i find it easier to cast etc by night

I tend to get more done at night regardless of the task at hand, simply because it is quieter then and the air is cooler. I think the peace and extra alertness is probably fairly conducive to good magical practices too.

I agree, with each person it is different whether night or day strengthens your energy.

Well it proly is stronger during night time, since the activitie of others is considerably lessend, so one can concentrate easily, with out other energies disturbing ones mind.


But I beleive it is of equal benefit, to learn the concentration at any time of the day, including any kind of influences wich might disturb, with that becoming a more concetrated and more powerfull spell caster.

I did not think that there was a difference on the time of day that you had to do magick. I do not practice magick tho, my friend does, she would know more.

night time is better i think cause alot of stuff happens in the datytime and at night time stress leaves a little so you can focus more

I have always found that it depends on the individual spell . I find that cleansing spells work better at night time . and for me anyway that bindings and such work better around noon

I believe it depends on the spell and which you feel more comfortable with. It's all a matter of personal preference.

It may not only depend on the person, but even the type of magic.

What spell is used could make a difference. I feel stronger and more connected to the earth at night. It's quieter and more peaceful.

Don’t believe that night or day has anything to do with magic directly, as the moon is always there day or night as are the stars, other planets and all known plants, animals etc. Night and day may play a role in a persons personal preference and their ability to focus as it’s easier to see the moon at night. Some specific rituals or magical effects may require a certain time of day or work better but in general I don’t believe magic is directly affected my day or night. Guess maybe it’s a personal matter though.

I would argue that lunar magic is stronger than night magic - paying attention to different phases of the moon rather than working spells at night.

Also, the best times of the day to be close to the otherworld are dusk, dawn, midnight and midday.

For some people, night magick will work better, for others, day magick will. As they say....different strokes for different folks.

the arts in general no matter nite or day if used right can be a great assets, depending on what style you use like for instance nocturnal witchcraft happens to be more powerful at nite. it just really just depends on what style and what your personal beliefs are.

I preffer casting magic during night, closing my self in a dark abandoned bunker, out of wich I during the still night, concentrate on the stillness of the night, and make the events happen.

I think that the night magick is stronger then when there is the moon and definite things included which refer to the night.
For example , spells involving moon, night time or also when it goes to energizing definite crystals and stones as moonstone, for example.

it really depends on the kind of spells you are doing some are better done during the daytime but also there are spells that can only be done at night time during the waning or full moon.

Well wiccas usually call on gods to grant their wish and offer a penence of sacrafise in reaturn, but if ur casting a dark spell, then your would cast it at midnight, its only logical. some other things that could effect your spell are the phoases of the moon time ect, It is also commenly belived that dark powers are more active at night

I do not think time as a facter in how strong the magic is. I think the fact is in what you like best and mkaes you feel closer to. Your only work storung magic when you feel your at the best place and time

i can pull energy from the sun and the moon, so really, it doesn't matter for me what time of day it is, just what cycle the moon is in.

The nighttime is a powerful conduit for certain types of energy to be gathered for spell working. The moon allows for veils to be crossed or joined with so that visualization may occur more rapidly and effectively. Times during the night when energies are most prevelant are generally between two and four in the morning. These are the times when most are unconscious and the silver threads of their astral bodies are holding their spirits attached to their bodies. At this time their physical bodies require rather little energy and therefore leave much more power for a spell weaver to gather.

Spells work better at different times under different circumstances.
