Well as with my last thread about the 13 plants I decided to add this one on Moon gardening.

I have always had a moon garden, nothing si more beautiful then a moon gardening during a full moon.

These are the one;s that I have in my moongarden, I also have a small pond in the middle, where the dragonflies like to roam.

Evening Primrose, Jasmine, Lambs Ear, Giant Moonflower, pure white spider plant, white dusty miller , snow white carnation frosted daisies , feverfew wormwood, kennedy roses, datura 4 oclocks , white mugwort,, hostas (variegated) white tulips purple tulips, daffadils .

With mine i liked to add purples so during the day it is in full bloom as well.

Does any one else plant a moongarden ?

i planted it in memory of my grandfather and the dragonflies that it attracts at dusk is just breath taking

Another piece of advice you could accomplish is to plant in the moongarden, since it seems to have a bit of magic to it...Would be to create a fae circle within it as well. See what this turns up.

How did you come about making a moongarden? What, besides esthetics, do you get from it?

That sounds beautiful, maybe once i get a house with the next move I'll think about planting one. I dont know the first thing about moongardens though would you mind if i came and asked for your advice?

Your moon gardens sounds so delightful.. I can't wait to literatlly put down roots and build one of my own.. Right now my garden consists of some over sized clay pots that contain my herbs...

I love garden, moongarden or even regualr ones, I use to have them each time I had a house and they was breath taking, big, and smelling so wonderfull, now I am in ana appartement and I cant have them, but I do have some water fontain with some bamboo plants, and a bit of orange and lemon tree, they are small but smell so good and relxing, the water is just the touch that makes the differnce I think.

Well other then the herbs that are in it and such, it is my special place that I feel close to my grandfather at, especially when it is filled with dragonflies

do you have to have a warm climate all the time to have a moon garden..?

i live were there is four seasons not like florida or such that i wish..

i had a white night time garden.. some of m favs were moonflowers and nioght blooming jasmine

I have always had night blooming Jasmine because there is nothing more pretty then the smell of Jasmine but this summer I think I am going to start work on a full moongarden

What is a moongarden exactly. Is it a garden that have plants that only bloom at night? Or just plants that look prettier at night?

I was just reading about it and its flowers and or plants that have a glow about them at night time and especially when the moon is out.

If someone that has one could message me more info on how to start one , and what plnts are good for first timers it would be greatly apeciated

In my eyes, a moongarden would be something to reflect upon ones spirituality and tranquility. To me that means preservation of power, or the regeneration thereof.

I imagine if I were to have one, Id have to alter the cosmos a bit to allow neon blue clouds to exist, but as far as the plant selection goes... Id have to ponder on that abit before I make a decision.

I agree that they are very tranquil and spiritual when they are in bloom and the smells are just so very intoxicating. :)

When I was arrested I tried the moon garden defence but they didn't buy it... indecent exposure they said... seriously though the concept of a moon garden sounds heavenly but don't plants need light? to photosynthesise? Now I'm being facetious, the point probably is that in the moonlight the garden comes to life in all its simplicity and beauty??? Am I on the right lines?

I am going to try this come spring. Great Idea. I've had a garden once before, but its so hard to get to it during the day. And i had no idea there were so many night blooming plants :)

These do sound all very beautiful. I'd like to look into it when the weather changes and I get back into gardening. Does anyone have any pictures of theirs? Is it alright to take pictures of it or does it lose it's "magic".

This is an interesting concept. I do enjoy getting my hands dirty (ha ha - gardening) so creating one of these moongardens would be a great idea!

I had one once but my ex tore it up. He ws a very nasty man and it took too long for me too see that.. I also dont have the greenest thumb int he world. If you do have any really good tips I would be more then happy to take them. I would love to start a new one.

Well thanks to MoonRainbow for clearing up what a moongarden is. It sounds lovely and I would love to plant one myself. I shall definitely give it a try.

Unfortunately I live in an apartment building and can't do this, but it sounds wonderful. I would spend a lot of nights sitting out in a moon garden if I could.

Can you keep one in side? I have no place to have a real garden. :(

I don't currently have a moon garden because of limited space outside, but I had one for years. Spending time in it at night was much more enjoyable to me than spending time in my regular garden during the day.

If any one could tell me the best places to get some of these plants it would be very helpful as I have had a very hard time obtaining them

The moon Garden sounds beautiful....I may in spring since I live in a apartment and the soil outside is full of stones and basically will only grow morning glories...start a garden on the window sill on my apartment. Then when winter comes...I can always bring it in.

Moongardens are lovely I wish I could plant another one, and as for faeryerings I always have one sprout up where ever I live. Mostly the dark circle of grass occasionally mushrooms or small purple flowers.

I have an awesome garden with a two level pond. Lots of big gold fish. I may add more Koi if I can scare away the Blue Heron that eats them.

Wouldn't a moongarden also be a spot that although beautiful and calming during the day like the other spots of your garden/yard, that during a full moon would have more power because of what was planted and how important it was for you? Including a fae/fairy ring would be an excellent idea.

i would love to have one, im just not real sure how to go about getting it done and how to keep the nasty cats from next door to stay out of it. also there is the money issue to buy the plants, i have tons of seeds but they take so long to get started, the things you have to do to bet yarrow or lavender to start from a seed is just rediculous

I have a garden full of white roses and lilies. Its very pretty and looks nice under a moon. Its dead now because of winter and it makes me sad

I have always planted things in mine which bloom at night and are very fragrant.
Citrus trees such as lemon and orange are wonderful.
Night blooming Jasmine as well.

We thought about doing it all around the hot tub out back. She also like Plumeria. and callalillies, So that will be something else to work on

night scented stock?its a fragrant annuall which opens at night to attract moths.and a bat box?your local bat society would install it for you.

Um,they dont.They get their sun during the day.

Moongardens are gardens that are planted to create a certain look,feel or energy when visited at night by using certain plants.The plants stay there 24/7 and grow as any normal plant would.

I would assume then the garden could be planted in various ways that aren't exactly gardens such as in green houses or in specially made boxes for it on a smaller scale. I have seen them do this on HGTV when one has very little planting area.

I don't have one...not even a place for one right now. But that sounds wonderful. I want to get back in to gardening at some point when I have a place for it.

Good question....... I like the idea however.

As I have no house of my own a garden is out of the question. Though when the day comes that I do have a home that I claim as my own then I will possibly have one. Until then I am gardenless. :(
