Do you think energy and other things can be held in pictures that we take of ourselves and of others?

Many believe a photograph steals part of your soul and will not allow them to be taken of them.

Possibly... I know that energy in way of emotions can survive in photos. I've touched them and could feel them.

No.. I picture is a picture. The only emotion it conveys is what the viewer interprets from it.

That is a power within the observer, not the picture.

I agree with Birra, the only energy you see or feel from a picture depends on the facial expressions, posture, or activities of the subjects in the photograph.

Those sort of expressions are proven to inspire certain emotions in the people viewing them.

Well, in part, the photographer has some control over that.. capturing the facial expressions, action, emotion...

...but as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is emotion.

Two people can look at the same picture and get two completely different feelings about it. One might view the faces and read the emotions of the people in the photograph, the other might pick up more emotion from the colors, shading, depth, focus..etc..

...and it may or may not relate to the emotion the photographer was actually trying to convey.

This is an intresting question. It reminds me of this book by Oscar Wilde "Picture of Dorian Grey". In the book .. his friend painted a perfect portrait of Mr. Grey. In the book his soul was trapped into the portrait as well as his aging, Every dark emotion kept an imprint within that picture, When he murdered, when he felt jealousy, when he felt arrogant. It all was recorded into the potrait. So to raise such a question there is a possibilyty that some sort of energy is in that picture. Our brains record memories and just as when you try to do dream recollection by wirintg a word down into a jouirnal to remember a memory. Pictures do the same. Part of our soul isnt quite into the picture but it does trigger a partof a memorable event that is part of your soul..and mamory therefore there must be some sort of type of energy that does come out of it.

oops i forgot tio add that the concept of Oscar Wilde's work is purely fiction and yet there is a possibility that it may hold some truth in it. When spell casters use pictures of someone, its easier to use their real picture than a representation. A part of them is held within that picture. It seems difficult to understand that an innamimate object can hold such a thing but ...with the universe being so mysterious who is to say that it does or doesnt

But how would this work? where would the energy be? On the memory card? In the actual print out of the picture? what if loads of copies were made of the same picture? Does this mean in the days of film photography that peoples energies were trapped in the original film reel? What about video capturing? Does this mean film stars loose a bit of themselves every time they make a movie? Is there energy in a dvd?

Doesn't really sound feasable to me???

I completely agree with you ImmortalMistress. If you get double prints, does that double the emotion, the energy? If psy vamps feed on psychic energy, could they feed simply from a picture of their victim/donor?

It does make sense to me, with all the millions upon millions of photographs, movies, dvds, and other media floating around, who would need to feed on anything but that if energy was trapped in whatever media of your choice.

The only thing I can think off hand is if energy where in fact captured somehow in a photo,it would have prolly been the older ones where there was silver used in the process.Silver Bromide being sensitive to light..light being energy so on and so forth..or something to that effect..Hahah oh hell.

haha Oceanne...

I don't think energy is contained in a photo, only a memory. It shouldn't make a difference between film and digital. Film doesn't make pictures more "real". Film is man made, not some magical strip of coolness that developes into pictures.

You see a facial expression, place, pose, even certain weather and what the people are wearing in the photo can make you feel a certain way.

O_O hehe I know, bad huh? But hey, check this out.The Akashic records are Torsion waves right? They are the library of the Cosmos,or book of life if that is your pref. But if you look at the process of the old photography, and look at the way the Bromide captures energy(electronic traps ets)..Believe it or not,I bet I could show that it could actually be a possibility..albeit a long shot.
Oh I really have been up far too long.

Heh well anything is possible.

That is the challenge of good photography, to capture the "energy" of the subject through angle or adjusting the shutter speed so you get something in action, like a girl shaking the hair out of her eyes or a dog leaping after a frisbee.

True. But I believe we would be talking about two different animals here.Where lets say in the digital age,you really have none of the old components of photo processing so to speak. The photographer would indeed have to catch the "essence" of the moment by way of skill and or luck.
But with the Bromide,it would be more along the line of actually recording not only the look of the moment, but the energy of the moment itself.Because of its very nature. Now,this question has me wondering why it is that the Native Americans would never let their pic be taken because they felt it stole their soul..might be a little something to that if I got my chemistry right.I think I will look into this a little..just for fun.

They just didn't like how they looked on film..No I don't know. I can understand the concept of something capturing a still picture of you being kind of creepy.

As far as how creating images have changed, I think we can both assume that this subject covers photographs taken years and years ago, and photographs taken today.

Both require skill, and I think both can equally capture something. I've seen beautiful pictures taken with just a disposable camera.

Ditto on that.No doubt about it.But my train of thought isnt even including the photographer skilled or no.
I guess what I was trying to say,if something could actually have captured some of ones true energy ,with the old processes, because of the chemistry,it might be worth looking into.Alchemy at its finest I suppose.

good point oceanne. So if this chemical reaction does capture energy does that mean it is stored somewhere or does it get released and would the energy come from the subject of the photograph or from the photographer themselves as they would be the one closest to this reaction?

Photographs may also reveal other energies such as poltergeists, or spirits and often orbs so, yes I would say they could potentially harbour a fair bit of energy that has been suspended for that one moment in time.

Pandora65,lets say that is true,to reallly get an idea of how emotion might play its role, you really need to look into the basic theory of cellular vibratory activity..I think you might be suprised how this would fit in here as well.
But that really isnt the hard part,we all pretty much know that we emit elec impulses etc....the toughy is what,if anything in that chemical process could have actually captured and recorded these things kinetic energy or whatever...at least the way Im thinking at the moment.

Many things that have been touched hold energy of the people involved but I am not sure of the picture itself per se. I know that people do readings by touching objects, pictures and a variety of things so there must be some sort of energy held in them.

All pictures essentially freeze time. A moment in time. So to hold the energy of that moment such as emotionally energy, is entirely possible. To actually capture the freezing of time, as in time stopping, I believe would be impossible. Time is a continuing and ever flowing form of energy.

I don't believe that a photo may hold an emotion or a part of one's soul.

Mediums can get vibes off photos but I think they are just using the photo as a focus point. I do not believe it is the photo they get the feelings from, it would be more like having somebody's name for a blessing - it is a focus point.

i think everything that has been touched by a living being has an "energy thumbprint" left behind, that you can pick up on if you are sensitive to such things.

Being a photographer no, not in the sense of someone’s life energy. An image only holds data about the amount of reflected light being bounced off the subject.

An energy of sorts, yes. I don't think any real strong form of energy could be held in it, but maybe a little.

Wel, Othis you might be surprised that I disagree with you. Photographs seldom capture the true image of how we "feel" How many times have you heard the expression, "Smile for the camera?" and voila we have a moment in time that doesn't reflect the truth.

That is a damn good point MaraJ. However, perhaps it could happen if a subject is under tremedous emotional stress or something.Who knows,I know I sure dont.

Well, Oceanne capturing an emotion of guard is an aim of a photographer, as it makes the subject of the picture more interesting. Still life subjects are good too, and particularly so in a graveyard where there might loads of orbs and ghostly spectres :)

I remember the saying "A picture can say a 1,000 words.." I believe you can feel what that person is feeling at that time as well. If its love, pain, sorrow or maybe death?

Absolutely.

For a good example of this, take a look at the Amish. They don't like to have their pictures taken because they feel part of their souls will be trapped in that photograph. If you think about it, it does make sense.

I would say so if so many psychics are able to touch a picture and be able to get feelings and other images or information about the person the picture is of.

I want to agree with Bathory... these psychics are able to gain insights from the photographs... if not getting energy from the images themselves, maybe they're channeling the people who the images are of?

First law of thermodynamics:

Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only altered in form.

Time is ever changing and so are those things affected by time. A photograph dulls over time.

Some natives too this day will not allow their picture taken. If you were to take a photo of them, they believe the picture has removed their spirit or sole and put it on the photo.

I think it is a posibility, but even pictures lose their stored energy after the passage of time.

Printed pictures, film, even electronic media wear down with the passage of time.

You can attempt to maintain the energy by adding energy, by making copies or reprints. But sooner or later, they will rot and be gone, along with the stored energy.

I doubt it, but one never knows. Perhaps through an extraordinary act of will or suffering some trace or imprint may be left behind. Of course, with the demise of film and the advent of the digital this question will soon be moot.

Images fade, as do some emotions. While they're present they can stimulate memories or sensations in the viewer which inspire a personal interpretation of the picture.

No I don’t believe a photo or image can steal / take and hold someone’s energy but the idea does make for some good fiction. Now there are some camera techniques that have been developed that can photograph energy and energy fields both for scientific reasons and in paranormal research. These cameras are only capturing a reflection of what is seen and not the energy itself.

Does a lake capture a person’s energy as they look into it or does it simply reflect back the image? Not really a question but it’s my point, it does not capture energy.

I for one absolutely HATE having my picture taken. I don't know why, I just do.

I have read all the posts, and everyone is either on the "yes" side or the "no" side. Well, I think that a bit of ourselves are caught in pictures. Allow me to explain.

When we have our picture taken, we have expressions on our faces, be it happy, sad, or "oh god get this over with". How we are at the time the photograph is taken, is how we are captured at that moment. I'm not saying that energy or your soul is captured, but how we are feeling is captured.
