Such a shame to see people .. properly bookshelfwiccans chipping off some rock from the main stone.
I posted a little in the past about taking from spiritual places like Ayers rock and people sending back the rock they took saying sorry as there life went down hill after.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080522/wl_uk_afp/britainarchaeologyhistoryheritagestonehenge
what do you think would happen to those people that take rocks from one of the oldest relics in the world, steeped in occult history and cross roads to Avery lay lines?
I personally hope that they experience a string of bad luck that makes them confess and return the chip of stone to it's original place..hopefully to be followed by some prison time.
I have a rock from a Cemetery in New Orleans. I also have a rock from the base of Dracula's Castle... Bran Castle. I know people who have lava rocks from Hawaii. I don't believe in curses though people say I am cursed for having the rocks. *shrugs*
Take pictures. If everyone keeps taking a piece of this and a piece of that then there will not be anything left to appreciate later in life for our children and their families.
We each choose are path and if they are ready to accept their fate, let them choose. Free will must not be taken away for the belief in the greater good.
Taking a piece of a spiritual monument that doesn't belong to you with such a strong amount of spiritual energy would have negative repercussions just based on the act itself, I would think. I think the repercussions would vary per individual. Chipping away at any monument slowly wears the structure away, which in the end would prevent future generations from enjoying a piece of history.
okay i fully understand where your comming from growing up in hawaii people would for ever take lava rocks from the differant valcaino's and take them home to the main land ... many lava rocks have been returned with bottles of rum to appease the goddess PALE .... strangely there was a house that was in the path of the lava flows that never got touched the flow would always flow around the house as the person living there praised PALE and gave offerings on a regular basis to keep her home protected till this day no matter how many times that Volcaino goes offthe house still stands till this day its quite interresting as i say where there is belief there is power
It is iglegal to take any part of the rock now it is a huge fine and a prison term.
By taking pieces away from those sights you are, in a sense, stealing someone else's magick. The gods don't tend to look to kindly upon this. If the person did not lend their energy to laying down the magick they have no right to take from it. We may borrow these places of power, but taking pieces away...big no no. Karma has a funny way of letting you know when you've messed up :p
I feel that something that holds such mystical power would come back to bite you in the ass. I believe in karma and what these people are doing is wrong and a shame. Its also a part of history and its a selfish act to be a part of breaking down something so sacred when others may never get to see it. Tsk Tsk...
I think that it is disgusting for anyone to do that to any sacred place...whatever bad Karma they get, they deserve.
I would imagine that the repercussions would be determined by what the person believes in.
Personally I think taking bits of sacred relics and locations is horrible and a crime against human history. (Rocks from Hawaii etc don't count :)
There are very few objects/relics etc that I think carry a curse to those who violate it.
I'm not sure the people should be referred to as fools, it is just ignorance on their part regarding this subject. It is a lack of respect to destroy by stealing - our children should have the right to see these things as much as we do.
i hope they would have bad luck although i dont belive in it, but they could have bad things happen to them. People who take things from sacred grounds should be punished, it show a total lack of respect from the people who were before us.
If u take the rock or sample of any kind then u deserve the ramifications that come with it. Plus if people keep taking pieces of these artifacts then they will be forced to not allow tourists, and it will spoil it for everyone else
I think it is disgraceful to our herritage. If everyone took a little piece of every historic monument there would be nothing left.
Lava stones from Hawaii are naturaly occuring, and as long as you give something back to nature, she does not mind, there have to be a balance.
I personally hope that this was an exclusive event that will not happen again in near future.
It would be a sad day indeed when we need to put a fence around monuments with security cams etc just to protect them from vandals.
nah i dont see any reason a bit of rock would matter. Alot of people have rocks from places all over the world. I have some stones i took from some places to.
Obviously if people are willing to steal the rock, then they deserve the bad luck.
I feel if it is not some Historical site then there should be no harm in people takin souvieners I mean I collect rocks and stuff whenever I go on trips LOL Yet , it depends also on home much you believe in Curses. I do not put alot of faith in them ...Yet, strange things can and have happen to people who have done so and some that have done it nothing happens soo ... not sure about it.
Yet I agree if you steal something that is not suppose to be takin' then you should be punished.
If people want to be fools and take a piece of History then let their conscious be their guide. Also they will end up paying the consequences depending how bad they were a fool for taking something that wasn't theirs to begin with, thats almost what you call is stealing and that will be punishable by any means.
When one steals something precious like that ,they are stealing history from us and the future generations.
Stealing is stealing, jail time comes to mind.
I believe in balance and karma. Removing something that doesn't rightfully belong to you brings unwanted tidings to ones life. I understand that everyone wants
power, but is it worth the discomfort which comes with it ? I say no.
In my opinion it would be kinda like, someone taking a piece of your skeleton after you die. You have a right to haunt that person or curse them. It's your body. Weird logic I suppose, but still.
Kinda like the sarccophagus (srry, if spelled wrong) of King Tut. Anyone who owned it had a string of bad luck and then died. The man who discovered it died. An actress moved into his apartment. Was stalked and harrassed by a crazed fan and later died by getting crushed to death or falling out a window. I can't remember.
the ones that bother me most is people who take pieces of stalagtite and stalagmite a friend offered me a piece as iam a collecter of odd rocks and items i get mine all leagaly but still feel some uneasyness about taken from the earth
I guess I should of mentioned this link was about Stonehenge and not ayers rock.
Destroying a piece of history is, in itself, a pitiful crime. To steal a piece of the rich history of Wiccan culture deserves what unpleasantness follows those who choose to steal a bit of history.
If you believe in something strong enough, i think you are basically giving it life so to speak. So if you're the type of person to think that taking something from some ancient site is going to bring harm or something of that nature, then it probably will because you are already inviting the negative energies around. If you're the type of person to not believe that objects hold power, then perhaps for that person it doesn't. Personally I feel whoever did it should just have more respect for certain places and maybe in time they will. ^^
Is that sort of like the volcanic rocks and scattered tikis on Hawaaii?
With what I know of the power of fetishes, and charms.. and the reenforcement with steeped tradition.. I would say even a person that "Boldly declares" to "shuck all that.." is looking for a reason to blame on an unfolding crisis.., but any way about it.. Athletes have home field rituals and somethings are bane to take to a away game.. I have learned the
Material Law of Found Property
First declare it Leavitrite .. and do Leavitrite right there..
I shiver at the thought of the commercial sales motivated collector..
Taking items from a holy place is just wrong, but I don’t think people really think about the consequences at the time they are doing it. Its human nature to be intrigued by things like that and want a piece to remember it by, but for every action there is an equal reaction.
I think that some places like Aires Rock thats there form nature need to be left alone, others that are man made and many times being dismantled it may be ok.
My other halfs mother when to Jerusalem and they were taking down a wall in one of the oldest church like structures, (you would need to ask him what one I dont know off hand) But they were allowing the public to take parts. We have a small chunk that around 2500+ years old now.
I think its pretty stupid to be taking peices of such deep history. I mean why not just take a picture, yes there is a lot of energy there but bring a chip back from there, thats just asking for trouble. If everyone that went there to this sacred place took a peice home, there would be nothing left, why not just leave it as it is, would you go and take a peice from a church ? I agree people just don't think sometimes.
I guess if one wanted a piece of rock from ancient pagan sites of worship they could instead of take bits of Stonehenge just go to a church built around or before 15 century and find most of the original building is made from pagan churches in the first place lol
So take from that source
I,m sorry but no where in life are they a wiccan or pagan of any kind or they would know that you do not desecrate a holy site for "souvenir,s" would you go to a church and take golden cups or crosses to have as keep sakes ? no! I hope they have the worst luck a person can have.
I just leave things alone. I try not to disturb spiritual things.
I know that in Spain if you think you are taking some found artifact out of the country you are in for a stunning discovery.
dont know how many of us out here in the VR drive but um we take from the earth a lot there with drilling and such sacred where the oil may have come from who knows but i dont think we give enough back to our mother earth giyah (errr i know i spelled that wrong)
They're bound to brag about it to someone, and that will be their downfall.
There is a scam where drug carels get a religious person to believe they have recovered stolen relics (hollowed out items, like stutues) and claim they need to be delievered to someone outside the counrry for a church to reclaim them.. all great until it is found to contain dope..
If the Earth belongs to all mankind...
And these are, say, natural places, like Ularu (not Ayers Rock, kids, look it up.)...
And everyone is the child of the earth...
How, exactly, is it stealing?
The Earth is in a constant state of flux, breaking down, growing, burning and being rebuilt, through natures hands, and the animal kingdom.
WE ARE ANIMALS.
Nothing is meant to be static.
Maybe...the urge to collect just a piece...is part of the urge of Nature to break EVERYTHING down.
Curses only exist in the mind of the cursed.
Don't believe me? Find someone to curse me, and we'll see how that pans out for them.
Nothing is static or meant to last forever. The only monument is memory, and even that changes rapidly.
Preservation is a lead reason for me. That and people with commercial intent. A person could be buying something that is illigal, unknowingly.
If they wanted that type of rock so badly they could try going to the spot the rocks originally came from and saved themselves the trouble of getting in trouble. hahaha
Removing things always upset the Manitou that possesses it--thus ill luck soon follows
I think that they are pitiful t' just disguard such a relic b'cause their life is 'n a pit! People should know that there will be ups an' downs t' life, an' that there is no magic pill/stone that will instantly cure EV'RYTHING. Those who still stick t' what they b'lieve (even through the hardships) I salute you!
If you want a souvigneir you should support the local trinket dealer, or you may get a prank upon you..
I would ask for soveners and the people that take without asking should get some type of punishment.
or a little something to make them itch.. hehe I like what the (name delated) do to people who take things, even after being asked not to. They get a few drops of saline in there after tour brew.. the foul porta-loos in the field are sour to put it mildly..
i believe that they are taking rocks that shouldn't be touched or moved, as they are sacred.
karma will bite them, it always does. just like walking on graves, its disrespectful and its noticed but the things which we don't see.
takin things from old sacred places is wrong no matter if its a rock a piece of wood or a 200 yeear old gold jewal encested cross(actully happened a few months ago from a big church across the river)
I 'ave only one question-WHAT THE HELL IS GOIN' ON 'N T'DAY'S WORLD?
Things have truly taken a turn in today's society compared tot he things back 20 yrs ago.. I just wanna smack people..
one thing that I have noticed about todays society is that there is no respect anymore, people don't respect each other, and important historical items. I hope that anyone that takes a piece of the rocks will get bad luck for the rest of their lives.
i believ that nothing should be touched ---- and for thosewho do should suffer badly .
There are some things on this earth that are better off not tampered with..
Stone Hinge is a magical, mysterious place.
I wouldnt risk my sanity for a peice of history.
The title of this post is correct: They are FOOLS!!
Yes, in some sense we are animals, but what tells us apart is this.
Animals take what they need only.
Humans, take what they want, simpy because they can.
It is still stealing when you chip of rocks from sacred places, but it is also a matter of principle. We love the mysteries that surrounds these places, but if everyone took their little piece, then there will be nothing left to our children.
We do not own the earth, we borrow it from our children.
I don't really think anything bad happens. It's just a little bit of folklore which expands over-so.
Well if you read the links it’s a lot of people and a lot of money to send it back… wouldn’t you think just throwing it away would be good enough?
i think that to have something from such a strong place of power in my eyes i would think that this person would have happen one of two things very bad luck or he or she would feel all of the pain and sorrow that has happen there times three such as said in the wiccan law of return.
but we truely dont know what lay lines are only that they are were the two planes happen to cross. these places also happen to form what is known as Nexis these are a place of great power that is neither good nor evil.
i agree with what most people have already said, in that your taking from a place not only erodes it and will take away from future generations for somthing you will have and even if you kept it till death would be discarded into the trash. take pictures and bring home memorys but let others enjoy it as you have and the same way you have.
I b'lieve t' throw away somethin' o' sacred value, is even worse than takin' it 'n the first place...
this is like people taking rocks from the Roman Colliseum. I know the building isn't really steeped in HAPPY thoughts and memories but it's still standing after a millenia or two so leave it the hells alone.
Anyone stealing something like that or from a sacred place honestly gets whats coming to them. And I hope it's something slow and painful. It may sound bitter, but the world isn't getting any bigger, and we only have a precious amount of sacred places without some asshat taking chunks of it for nothing else than GREED.
These people should be sterilized and I am not even close to being kidding. And just for good measure, in the immortal words of Rowan Atkinson's Black Adder;
"May the gods frown upon them and their kind, may they turn orange in hue and have their head fall off at an awkward moment."
Sheesh I wish people would stop destroying the things that they claim to love...it's frustrating that people can not understand that taking pieces of anything that is finite causes the rest of us to lose those things...the freakin' "Missing Link" is probably in someone's basement in a box full of souvenirs...
Largely I have to agree with Scybermonk...
also...
If a place has power due to it's laylines... how would removing a piece affect it?
Lavisbre, you live 2.5 hours away from one of the most powerful nodes on the planet... there is no giant rock... no predruidic monument... and aside from grain and rocks and the occasional dug up native artifact ... nothing at all that indicates that it is a major node... yet it is the apex for the medicine wheel.
To think that plundering is wrong for the reason of appeasing some pseudospiritual balance is off base.
How can you say that it is not the nature of these events of theft to empower the world? Are you not familiar with the magic penny theory? Money when horded losses it's value... so does love... and all things.
I believe that the power that is shared from these places (manmade or natural) cannot be reduced in such a fashion. The curse to which you are refering is a lack of ability to comprehend the purpose of the power involved... and that is... not to horde it... that it must be used when taken away... it is the purpose of such places to take teh power away with you.
The same is true I think of Marie Laveaus alter... although I am not sure I am quite sure I'm prepared to touch that yet.
I worked in israel for 2 years (arround the time iraq invaded quwait and the scud missile attacks), and one of the places I worked was a heritage site... It is common for people to take the perfectly round stones from the garden paths with them as a momento... this is prohibited... not because of the destruction of a spiritual site... but because it has befcome nessesary to replenish the stones with regular trips to the sea of galelea to find perfectly rounded stones with which to re-lay the paths. It takes a crew of 5 people a week to collect a wheelbarrowful of stones.
People that have been on pilgrimage and have taken these stones often wind up sending them back in some way, convinced of some curse... there is not.
My point I supose is that it is all about what you take away with you. You can take the rock and leave behind the epiphany... you can take the epiphany and leave the rock... it doesn't really matter...
the epiphany you may have collected may be meant for someone else... in the event that someone is not cappable of the sharing in a spiritual fashion; it becomes nessasary to circulate it in a more physical fashion.
The actual destruction of something is an altogether different issue, but a rock on the ground is a rock on the ground... and if it can be picked up and taken away... so be it... it is for the betterment of all!
In my oppinion.. you can take the rock you can take the whole monument... it doesn't matter.. what matters is your intention.. and your thoughts... you should be careful with that. I , for example, would take a rock home from a monument... I would take all the monuments with me.. because I love old things.. and I know I will be ok. I will not be cursed or whatever else could be.
something can bad happens there are so many real stories in life .
You know the Hopi and the Navajo have a similar curse on the painted desert. Something about bad luck if you take the fossilized forest pieces
I wonder if this bad luck is because the land is sacred and we just forgot it with our buildings and land stripping… I wonder if we were a little greener our lives would be better?
Uluru is a spritrial place of the aboriginie people, i personally think that its just a big red rock, however it should not be destroyed its not ours to destroy
I don't really know what to say to this. Generally, by law of those countries or states in one case, it's illegal to take from Stonehenge or Bran Castle. Hell...even taking from the Pyramids is strongly Illegal and if caught, you will lose your hand. It's bad news when people steal from such places, and extreme bad luck.
They should get more than back luck, they should lose everything their house, their mister or mrs, there kids everything it would serve them right for taking things which do not belong to them.when they die they wouldnt like it if their ground was desacrated would they?
I was brought up to look at it like this when you visit somewhere important or even just the country side leave nothing but footprints and take nothing but memories. At the end of the day you shouldn't take things that don’t belong to you it's stealing, and you ruin it for the people that come after you. If you take that which isn't yours there is always a price to pay. It’s all karma at the end of the day, and I live in hope that such people are punished if not by the state then by karma or something similar
They will experience a lot of extreme bad luck. Accidents, loss of job, financial problems, relationship problems, sickness around themselves and family members. Arguments, friction, depression and anxiety. Feeling that something bad is going on and no idea on how to fix or change things.
I believe they should just be left alone period. Not that anyone has right to or not to take parts. The are a part of history, leave them alone.
If people want to be fools let them, it will be determine by fate and the consequences that come along with it especially making bad choices in life. I understand we all make mistakes but its what we do afterwards to learn of those mistakes that would make us stronger and not be fools in everything we do.
Well depending I mean I believe that it could come back and bite you.
to steal something from such a holy place to all pagans. i would think that would be enough for them not to do such a thing. but i guess they just have to learn the hard way. and yes Karma is an evil bitch at times.
Personally I went to Wales and the blue stones… took a bit and went to Stonehenge, did a ritual in the wood henge and on the second part did one in the stone henge.
All is good….
that is different Lev you took a bit for a rite. i was talking bout taking a piece for the sake of having it.
i didn’t take from the site Stonehenge but the original place the stones came from … it is also sacred to witches
i also placed witch bottles around the area to protect me from others… mid you with all the digs I think they may be found… time to place more… I have a mate who does help with the digs and she places my witch bottles back after the digs lol
I would be afraid of getting negative energy from something that didn't belong to me. Although I might be tempted to take a piece of rock from a "cool" place, I probably wouldn't. I have enough bad luck as it is!

I belive that taking rocks and stones could bring acurse upon someone. I mean it could be a burial place for somsone or something.
I think it's tantamount to desecration. If you want a souvenir of a sacred site, take some of the soil or something else which can be easily and naturally replaced. Chipping off pieces of stone eventually weathers away the original structure and spoils it for everyone else.
If a structure 'belongs to everyone', then everyone should be able to enjoy it.
i thinkit's sad when someone steals but when someone steals something like tht it shows disrespect and i think karma does play a big role in things of that nature.
I think its disrespectful to chip a piece off of a rock that is sacred to a place. If its just a stone on the ground in the area I think there is no harm but the other I think isn't right. I think if permission is asked and someone says its fine that is ok too to take a stone on the ground from the area. All the things about repercussions to me are superstition but sometimes superstition can surprise one and you get stung.
you do make a good point,i know i for one would not want to mess with anything that has power or possibly supernatural aspects as i would be worried of what may happen,i have heard stories but those are only second and 3rd hand accounts.
ones that steal should have bad luck until the rock is returned i hope there lives are miserable.
okay, take oil for example... who's is it... who's steel is being used to build things......
not our and yet we use and sell it anyway...... guess it depends on how you view it......
Some Wiccans do believe that if it comes from nature like a stone, twig, dirt ect. then it's free for them to use or take...I think it's from what ever tradition your from or believe in....some believe if they ask a tree ect. first for permission then it's o.k
there just needs to be set some kind of morals just in general but loo how everything is now a days, honesty is a hard thing to come by and i think sacredness is even harder to find,as long as were honest to ourselves and to our own doings then thats a start in protecting such things.
I myself...would not take a piece of rock that belongs in a sacred place. Mother earth has provided us with the luxery of her many hidden treasures of gems. Plants etc. I agree taking a picture is much better. Whether bad luck comes to the taker or not...as mentioned above also it is the person's intentions. Many say never take graveyeard dust home for it will bring you ill fate.
I think it is sacreligious and a disgrace to mar or take away from or desicrate any religious, culteral or historic relics. Unfortunately it is something that has been done for centuries on end--mostly because of greed.
I couldn't use the link in the original post, but here is another about the Ayer's Rock and people who came back to return the stolen pieces:
Tourists return stones to 'cursed' Ayers Rock
I hope that the words the that were said by the last guy in the article come back to haunt him......
