OK.. I have a question... Does anyone know of or heard of anyone getting blood poisoning from being bitten by teeth for the intention of blood letting?
I understand there is MUCH bacteria in the mouth. Up against an open wound, it can infect. It is possible to get blood poisoning froma dirty needle.

I have NOT been bitten with teeth and fed from. I have cut myself with a sterile instrument and dripped the blood out.

What say you guys???

I know that a dog probably has a few different bacteria in its mouth (although, thinking about it I can't see why) but the risk must be there.

I suppose there's always a risk whenever not using a sterile instrument of sorts. I've never been too cauitious about these things, but I have an immune system that most others can't compare with. lol At any rate, for most people, Allowing someone to bite you and open a wound in such a way might be running somewhat of a risk. You can always use things like hydrogen peroxide to sterilize the wound, I suppose. Also, if the person doing the biting were to thouroughly clean his or her mouth before-hand, and use some bacteria-killing mouthwash, that might help minimze any infection, as well.

I think it COULD BE, because it is invasive to the blood stream.

Human saliva is extremely contaminated with bacteria. I believe that it would indeed be quite dangerous.

It would be particularly susceptable to infection if the wound is caused by the puncture of a fang. The sharp point would drive any pathogens deep into the flesh where any antiseptics would have trouble reaching.

It would likely start as a general infection in the area which would only lead to "blood poisoning" if left untreated.

I would use extreme caution.

Also - if bitten on the neck any pathogens travel right to the brain.

I let a vampire in New Orleans Bite me during Mardi Gras. It was quite comical because she could not break skin.
If she had broken skin I would have been very concerned... she was a squater type... not too clean... sort of burnt out.

i was confidant that she wouldn't be able to break skin despite her fangs. In fact, I was quite impressed that her fangs didn't break.. they must have been real caps, because I never saw her without them and the theatrical ones tend to not stay on after biting that hard (the bite mark stayed for two months even tho she didn't break the skin.)

Personally I liek the intimate contact of mouth on skin... but I use a lancet and only with someone I trust... Usually, but

it has been my experience that you would have better luck with a dog bite than a human bite. Humans have most septic mouthes of any living creature. (in my opinoin)

I would recomand cleaning the bite out when you where done you can get an infection from just about anything if you don't clean it

It is very possible to get infection from being bitten. As you pointed out the human mouth is filled with bacteria which can contaminate the wound and cause infection.

It is possible it if not treated it is it makes an infection and that sometimes what betray someone that has hit teeth and got saliva in the wound ending up infected and notreated and dead.

I think it would very dangerous to bite hard enough break the skin. If you have lets say for instance a virus of any kind the bacteria will go right into the blood stream . This may cause sickness , lockjaw could even happen ..

Ive never been bitten nor bitten hard enough to draw blood I use razors and a needle once in a while. Both of wich I use regularly but heat up and put in a box I clean once every other day except when I dont use it. But I think you could get seriously ill from drawing blood by the mouth. So unless your some special person who is super freakishly clean its not very smart.

A human bite is far more deadlier that an animal unless they have rabies that is. Our mouth has way to many bacterias where as a cat or dog have a more sterile mouth. seriouly if you have a cut and allow a cat or daog to lick it thier antibodies from them will cause it to actually heal quicker.. proven fact.. so I do not recommend allowing any one to bite you, your better off using a sterile blade to do blood letting.

Forgetting the fact that the jagged wounds most people teeth would inflict, and the amount of pulverizing trauma done under the skin... Any deep puncture will run a huge risk of infection without proper medical treatment.

If you want to live on the wild side, using Hydrogen porixide, rubbing alcohol, and other at home tools, go for it. Just remember, don't blame the venomous snake for biting you when you stick your hand in its cage.

many people that experience a vampire's bite get sick, not from the vampire bite but because of the infection thereafter. that's what causes the fever dreams so often heard of. hollywood/rumor has just hyped it up a bit more.

I agree with the latest posts. Our mouths are very dirty places. Infection at least is almost a given.

I myself have never gone through it, but I have a friend that was bitten by another friend and although she did not drink her blood she did get an infection from the bite.

There is always a risk a person takes with having an open wound. Just take appropriate precautions and know who u are dealing with.

My friend was once bitten by her cat and it got terribly infected and she was on pain killers and all sorts. While she was at the doctor, he happened to say that dog, cat and human bites are the worst kind you can get. I'm not sure how true that is or how helpful it is. But that is what he said.

Images...same thing with me.. a cat bit my hand and a tooth punctured the bursa sack in a finger joint - the swelling and infection was massive. Was on tons of antibiotics and fortunately, no surgery was needed.

Any kind of bite with skin breaking and getting into the bloodstream by any animal is dangerous. The human bite is more "deadly" than a dog or cat's and something to be very careful about at all times.

From needles there,s always the risk if oyur sharing,same with bites,septicaemia is a nightmare and can sometimes be fatal,i had that when i was thirteen after being bitten by my uncles dog.Take care out there.

Every time that you do blood letting you should make sure that your intruments are sterile. and that you have anticeptic near by after you have cut and had your fill. Make sure that the bleeding has stopped and then apyl anticeptice and antibiotic ointment to the sight as well as a bandage. if you do not have the proper tools then you risk sever infections

Hmm I got bitten all the time by dogs as a kid, infected dogs, and nothing ever got on me, somehow I got the immpression that I am immune on getting infected that way with any desease that dog might transmit via bite, I never got vacinated....

As I have heard the most dangerous bite is the one by the Komodo Dragon(lizard). the one contains so much bacteria in his mouth, after a human gets bitten by it, the death is a matter of minutes(10-15) if the bite is not treated immediatly, the Komodo Dragon uses its bite primarly for killing its victims/food.......

i heard that about komodo dragons too. of course, it's not just the bacteria you have to worry about - human teeth are not thin and sharp like a cat - to break the skin, there would be massive trauma to the tissues, causing severe damage. it would hurt like hell.

Firstly, being bitten by a human is extremely painful, because the majority of our teeth are designed for grinding, not piercing.

Secondly, the human mouth is DISGUSTING, so of course you run the risk of infection. When I feed from a wound (that is always made from a sterilized instument) I make sure to brush my teeth and use mouthwash beforehand to minimilize the infection risk.

bites can pose a health risk be it human or animal. there is so much bacteria in ones salavia that it seems like such a bad idea to get bitten. as for the biter, do you know how clean the donors blood is?

Being a medic, I am quite familiar with things like blood poisoning. yes you can get some nasty infections from using non sterile instruments to bleed yourself. Human bites are actually some of the worst. there are so many bacterium in he human mouth. things that can cause sepsis and other nast resistant infections like MRSA and such.

Your best option if you are going to pursue the bloodletting route is to learn phlebotomy. this the medical practice of drawing blood. this teaches you to draw blood in a sterile and safe manner.

Not only do you need to know your donors history, but also the biter's history with other ppl. Same as sex. And taking extra measure to kepe things clean helps as well. Of course ppl have transmitted diseases and such from feeding. But they obviously weren't being carefl and probably had mroe then one donor.

Any time the flesh is punctured, infection is possible. If the biter is clean, though, and not only takes good care of his teeth and mouth but the rest of his body, the chance in minimized. Also, keep in mind that the person being bitten should have a relitively strong immune system; even if a puncturing is entirely sterile, there's a chance. Most people, however, get over most infections without a problem.
A final warning: any action can kill you, no matter how dangerous or safe. Always be prepared for the worst, but never forget to hope for the best.

humans have the most bacteria in there mouth. Dogs mouths are cleaner then humans. So i would imagine if no precautions were taken then that might happen. Some preventive suggestions up above would work.

This thread asks a good question that I never thought about. I use my teeth when I feed and my wife has never gotten an infection. I'm not sure if it can happen but it makes sense that it can if the person has a dirty mouth.

I have heard also that people that drink regular blood, have a higher tolerance to infection, anyways!

If you get them tested before you take the blood and you go outta the way to get everything ready, the risk is low. But if you dont, then yea you could get somethen like gomaherpasifalaids. ive only let 2 people bite me and draw blood...there dead now, so i cant really tell you alot. there wear clean and so was i, but after words you have to clean the wound and bangeds it up.
and make sure you dont get it to deep, leave some nasty scares on yea.

Well I have had many cuts and have put it in my mouth and have never gotten an infection from it. But anything is possible and I have a really good immune system

I personally haven't heard of anyone getting blood posining from it, but I have heard of them getting plenty of other things from it. Like you said bateria live in the mouth, but also things like STD's can sometimes be exchanged from saliva to an open wound (a bite) and I know someone who got AIDS from blood sharing.

You have to be really careful about whom you choose to bleed for.

The bacteria living inside the mouth are not to be taken lightly...always use extreme care and use alternate methods if available...

Possible.. Just because it is something that is to your body something foreign.. yeah it is blood but not your own.. so therefore your body will try to fight it off, possibly making you ill.

i do think it is possible. but 8 times out of ten no complications will occur. i believe if you bite to break the skin then the risk goes up ten fold, but if you simply drink from a steralized wound it's more likey that nothing other than pleasure will happen.

If You Are Masocistic for one then biting to draw blood is good, since most do not have sharp enough teeth to draw blood without causing alot of pain.
Cutting With A blade is better or using something to pucture yourself.
It is good to have a sterile mouth or insturment when doing so. But Also Remember to clean The Exposed wound as well.

Ok, i've been a paramedic for 8 yrs now. I must say you are definately right about the mouth being filthy. It is the dirtiest part of the body actually. But truth is any open wound has the potential of becoming infected, of course a bite of any kind (especially human though) is more cause for alarm. Also I have to wonder what your defination of sterile is. To some sterile may mean wiping off a knife, or washing it. This of course is not actually sterile. For something to really be sterile it must be autoclaved. A process involving a big machine that uses steam and pressure to clean intruments. It is the ONLY way to get blood clean from a metal object. Bleach will kill any bacteria but it does not remove it, even if you can not see it with your own eyes. So all that in mind, I would say be careful puncturing yourself or cutting yourself, and make sure you have an up to date tetanus to be safe.

oh yes, and to add to that, if you dont sterilize (meaning with an antimicrobial) the area to be cut, it doesn't matter how clean or sterile your instrument is because you open up the skin and then the bacteria that is on the skin go into the open wound. So mainly, sterilize the area (betadine or chlorahexadine gluconate) then cut.

The mouth can be deadly to an open wound or unsterile needle as well..you never know scientists are still finding bactiria in the mouth that has never been found before!!!

I've never heard of getting blood poisioning from blood letting. there might be some cases out there but it's never happened anywhere around me

i dont have any experience like this... but i know that when my cat bites me, i am allergic to it. i think that it has something to do with the saliva. i dont see why it wouldnt be the same with humans... everyone has different germs adn such. im sure it could give u an infection or allergic reaction ( i know some women who were even allergic to their boyfriends sperm) . i know u cant get stds through saliva. but teeth probably carry germs. i mean there are smokers, ppl who dont brush regulary... etc.

The mouth is one of the nastiest places on/in the body. You have many, many bacteria in your mouth. You would be very surprised. Some are Staph and Strep. I do believe you could get an infection this way, but I don't know the percentage.

yes there is chance for infection. But those of us whos body is now dead it doesn't effect. but wouldn't you risk infection to fell the ecstasy of the bite?

I'm not sure how you might manage to type with rigor mortis in your fingers, but for those of us who aren't dead, we play with the dangers of infection every day, from sex or drug use, to poor food hygeine.

Whilst a bite is a direct route for bacteria into the blood stream, it is only marginally as dangerous than any other fluid exchange.

In my own experience of blood letting and blood poisoning, though it hasnt been through my own mistakes that ive learned that blood poisoning can occur when bitten, ive learned this lesson through some of my friends unfortunate experiences.

Throughout my life when ive been plagued by well a hunger and well despite the fact that when i was younger i wasnt able to find someone who trusted me enough to be my donor I found myself feeding from myself, one things for sure i wasnt born with the canines i would need to bite to be able to feed so i turned to razorblades, always thought they were the easiest for blood letting.

Havent had any regrets.

I don't think you would actually get blood poisoning from being bitten. True, it may be possible for you to get sick...but a poisoning usually needs to be from something worse. But if you're unsure...I still wouldn't try it just to be on the safe side unless it's someone you know you can absolutely trust.

Like others have said any open cut can become infected and there are a lot of bacteria in the mouth. Hepatitis B also can be found in the saliva of an infected person. So unless you have gotten the vaccine for Hepatitis B you could become infected. HIV is not found in saliva so unless the person that bites you is also bleeding in their mouth you will not catch HIV from just a bite.

We know that hepatitis B virus (HBV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and cytomegalovirus (CMV) can live in children’s blood, urine, and/or saliva. All of them can be transmitted by blood—blood from an infected individual entering the bloodstream of another. HBV and HIV would be extremely difficult to pass in saliva or urine (because the amount of virus there is so small), but CMV is known to spread both ways, especially in the daycare setting.

Just always take things with precaution. You always take the chance of infection when exchanging bodily fluids.
