Do you believe every god in this world has opposing figure who they have to keep people, animals, etc... away from. For example, this is an obvious one, but Christianities god, and the devil. A few different ones, from Greek and Roman mythology, Dream, and Reality, Creation, and Destruction, Zeus, and Hades... That type of balance.
The question of this post is: Is the balance necessary, like could one side be invincible while the other is not (like in Hinduism)?
Included in this question does one have invincible angels (good guys), while the other have invincible demons (bad guys) according to the separation of power between the god/devil?
Also could a human walk in between all three worlds without being harmed?

it would make sense, there has to be a balance in the world or the bad kind of chaos would happen... like bhrama and shiva.. or osiris and set... it is the things that make everything equal... i think..

Great question, Rosho... In my opinion there is an equal to every half, there is good and there is bad, no matter what religion you look into it is all the same.

I think in every religion there have to be a bad guy aswell. To keep them on track.

I believe that there has to be a balance. So there has to be a dark forse for every light force.

I'm try to think of a religion that only has good guys, and I couldn't think of any. It's like Ying and Yang sort of except with gods.

yeah balance that was the word i seeked. If a religion only have a lightside it wouldent work same if only have a darkside.

Except with the force anomaly the dark side was vanquished at the end of the Return of the Jedi (I thought). The Emperor had been overthrown.

i have learned that this plane of existance is about duality, but in reality the only real thing is love. when we get off this plane of duality there is no more duality.
So no, I don't believe that every diety has an opposite. God is Omnipotint, The all.
This is just my understanding.

In Wicca, the Lord and Lady aren't purely good--they embody both the light and the dark sides, so there aren't any entities of pure good or pure evil. It's all about the Balance in just about any religion you can think of.

There has to be a balance. So that does make alot of sense.

I feel balance is desired but not necessary. It’s possible that we, or the universe could exist in a state of unbalance.

And I think a human could easily be harmed no matter where they travel outside 'the physical realm'.

I think human is a tool to everyone else in this game here.

there is a balance since humans are balanced too... i think that humans created the need of having gods... and even the meanest human being in the world, has some good traits... a serial killer, can love his/her kids... if you know what i mean... balance is within us... and if there's good, then, there's evil in equal strength...

Seems like humans putting the idea of "balance" into mythological terms...Maybe so they're easier to understand? I don't know...I guess it can be easier on the mind to blame an earthquake on an angry or evil God than think that it's just the earth and those things happen...

I think everyone is right. If you analyze the religious beliefs of each group (not that you could analyze EVERY group. there's too many beliefs) you'll see that everyone believes that the same thing happend. Sure, some groups worship many gods. But if you look deeper into it, you'll see that it all comes down to one being. Sometimes its many entities to represent one. like with christians its the father, the son, and the holy ghost, which is supposed to be jesus (the son of god) when he was in heaven, then when he was born, and finnaly when he rose again. Then there is the wiccan belief of the lord, and the lady; Or the father, and the Mother. And both of them are supposed to represent one single being known as The great one. thats just what i think though.

Plus, these questions don't always pertain to humans, animals, can be good or bad too, within they're own kind.

They say everything has an equal and opposite reaction, I suppose that could also be said when it comes to gods and deities. Wether they realize it or not, people tend to be very balanced in everything they do. You make a left turn, you have to turn the wheel right to straighten out the car, etc.

I believe that everything has its evil and good side. This universe is composed from those two. There is no one completely good or completely evil, everything has these both in one quantity or other. Thus, no God has just good in them or bad in them.

yeah, good and bad have to even out, in like any religion. myths and things are usually to teach people lessons, so...without a moral, every story (needs good to triumph)...there would be no point to most religious stories. Plus the world would be majorly screwed up...and of course, every good religion needs something to inspire hope in it's followers and something to inspire fear.

RedGoddess that wasn't Einstein's Theory, he did the quantum theory. It was Newton Theory who said for every reaction there's an equal and opposite reaction.

I would say that every God would have to have an opposing force. You can't have good without bad. But I don't think that the opposing force has to be another entity. It could just as easily be pollution, or crime, or anything else that isn't good.

Any god, I believe, thinks they need to keep people away from their opposites because they believe the opposite to not be good for said people.

Ah....The eternal struggle. But why do people feel the need to look at it that way? Just because we do not like the what a "god" is about, does not inherently evil. A force of nature is not evil, and "god" is just that. A force of Nature. Is the Hurricane that destroyes a town inherently evil? No. Niether is War, or Death, or any other Role that a "god" plays. All are apart of the cycle. All are needed for growth and enlightenment. Will there always be opposite forces? Yes. But that does not make either one of them evil. >;]

I agree with that...because in every known religion for the most part there are the oppisites. Good and Evil always fighting to win over the humans one way or another. Like Meska said ealier...God/Devil, Yin/Yang. Its common practice.

Can a human walk between the three without being hurt? Also possible if you are aware of what you are walking against. But many humans get hurt because they fall weak to the wrong things.

I think a person could walk between the worlds possibly if he/she has the knowledge.....there also has to be a balance because wwithout it all chaos would take place and nothing more, at least on earth it would.

Maybe, but define balance... In Hinduism, the gods are immortals, but the demons (or Rakashas) are not.

I do believe balance is needed. In all things. How can you have light without dark.. good without evil etc.

But I do not believe Gods NEED to keep you away from their oppisite... more they handle their relam of influence and late the gods of other realms handle theirs.

My main god I call on is one usually seen as a death god... but if I need healing or other things I call on a god that is usally seen with that sphear. Why would a god or godeess wish you to limit yourself to that narrow a mind set.. if you can only worship one god.. is this not what the Christians wish of us all?

No, because then there are angels, who are agents of gods, and there are demons who are agents of devil, and they fight instead of like Hades and Zeus fighting on another, a smaller god fights a smaller god.

I really do think that the whole thing about gods and devils has something to do with the duality in all things. There is no up without down no light without dark no good without evil.

I think that there always has to be a balance between "good" and bad". The key is to determine which is really which. I don't think that a human could walk through all worlds in body. Perhaps in spirit.

Just because "gods" are opposities does not mean that they are opposed to eachother. Just like the Sun and the Moon. The Day and the Night. Should one not exist, the other could not fill the void. I think there is always an oposite but I notice some have several good and 1 bad, others have 1 good for 1 bad.

It is I think all depending on the backgroung or beleif you have.

I believe all things need a balance. I think that if the world was flung into just one either good or bad there would be alot of mayhem. I think that this world needs balance just as everyone needs to eat.

I believe there have to be opposites for balance, that if we look at every factor in any given moment and analyze it, there actually is balance. There is light and dark, good and evil, and both forces are displayed in different people/places in any given moment. Too bad we don't have the capabilities of such an instantaneous worldwide or universe wide study and analysis!

For every good deity there must be an opposing deity, so yes I believe that there are opposites for any and all Gods.

I think I found an interesting counter-example to this question, though it isn't very valid, but what the heck: The Buddha (reincarnation of Vishnu), has no bad guy, except the cruelty and injustice of mankind. Jesus (The son of god) was the same way, he had no evil (ultra-bad) guy (or so we thought), trying to block his way. However, they are not god's even though often Buddha is portrayed as a god. He never wished to be a god, or to be a religious symbol.

Just my opinion,Every creature Gods and Goddess included has a bit of good and a bit of evil it was said earlier Yin Yang.Also as Wicca teachs all goddess/gods are both.Even demons arn't al bad or vampires.Everything is made up of both.

Balance...not sure it is needed but science tells us most things are in balance or seeking balance. So in the natural as it is in the spiritual I suppose.

Everything, gods, humans, nature, has opposing forces. Yin = yang, Fire = water, etc.

is exactly what I was trying to say. I don't think that the good entity's opposing force has to be another entity. It can be anything that is perceived as bad or evil.

Okay, that's a excellent point. I never thought of it that way. Even though Buddha technically never wanted to be worshiped or anything like that or to become a godly figure.

Like many said, yes for balance and I agree with any who said, that basically every religion has one thing in common: the bad and the good side.

But still why there should be balance? Can't we just live in good only, in an Utopia?Heh impossible because human nature is egoistical and greedy but I'd still like the idea of it.

As for humans travelling planes, yes I believe it is unsafe anywhere unless there is a way to protect yourself.

Well if you're going to believe that there is a god, of any sort, you need to see that he is needed or active in some way; one needs an enemy to fight in order to be active, right? something to react to... or else the hall thing would be even less belivable.

In every religion its all very different....but i belive the light could not exist without the dark, because the the dark would be dark is there was no light....And one cannot be invincible and the other not because then one would over rule the other and there would be chaos.
But thats just my opinion

In spiritual sense, I believe that these contradicting 'forces' are necessary for us to understand and appreciate the other. For instance, light cannot be defined without the presence of darkness. There is also the so-called 'balance' between the two forces, but I personally believe that it is disrupted from time to time by the decisions we make- whether good or bad.

I think a philosophy's opposite would be a counter philosophy. Or someone killing the philosopher, take for example Socrates. He was killed, but his philosophies lived on. Now imagine if he had died young. His philosophies wouldn't exist.

The names for various Gods and Goddesses are in a sense, meaningless. All are mearly words for describing something that is greater than us.

1.Not all the religions are dualists!The devil is the enemy of God, God is not the enemy of the devil in christianity.What are you speaking of is right only for the dualist religions.
