Where did your interest begin in Vampires and such? What age? What movie and/or book sparked you interest?
Geez, my interest started when I was about 11, my mom was always watching vampire movies and I became fascinated with them. As I grew older I started to read Anne Rices books and watched every vampire movie I could get my hands on, I always thought of them as sensual. And now with my love of the Goth culture it just seems natural.
I would say I must have been 4 or 5 yrs old when I started watching Sesame Street. Count Dracula was my favorite. Then my mom loved Dracula movies. There are so many versions of them Ive seen many. I always did have an afinity for history and art history and in fact I have my degree in it. Therefore when I was a young teen I wondered if Dracula was an actual character. So I dug into some information and discovered Vlad :) I think by then I was 10. My favorite movie of all time is Bram Stokers Dracula. I remember being in the 8th grade and getting teased for reading it at the time being I didnt care.
My interest in vampires began late in life: it was in late 2005 when I became interested, and I was 40 years old.
Hm... Well, I used to be scared to death of vampires. I used to have a recurring dream that I was being killed by a Nosferatu type creature. My fear subsided in eigth grade and it quickly turned to fascination when I realized that vamps are beautiful creatures.
I was about 11 years old and it was the first time I started getting my grandmothers things. She was wiccan and believed in Vampires
It started when i was about 12, when i read dracula for the first time and sort of carried on from there..
It began for me twenty years before I was born.
Seriously, though, around 12.
One day I stubled across a read about Vlad Tepes and it sparked my interest. From there I just started surfing the net on anything I could find about other vampiric stories. From then on I had a overwhelming urge to know everything I could know about the subject.
When I was young... my mum's always been interested in vamps so likewise so am I...
Thank God Trekkie-ism isnt hereditary though *mops brow*
I can't remember a movie or book that sparked my interest..It's just always been there.
I hate to say it but I ws first interested at about age 4...with count duckula, Lol.
Years later i got intriged by the legends around Vlad Dracula plus I have an interest in myths and stories of the unknown...not just vamps.
i would have to say i was 8 years old and it was with my faster mom and dad and as i grow old i started to read more books about vamipres
Apart from the odd daydream inspired by a film or book.....it was fairly recently.
I met some people online who spoke of Vampires and energy in a way I found interesting.
about ninth grade with me and my friends. I a vampire, one lycan and onw a wizard. D&D.
I was young, slept in a make shift coffin (table that lifted was like a coffin in my room) lol.
faced a lot of sleepless nights of fear and confronted my fear by going to the local graveyard… only to find the beauties of the night and that everyone else was afraid of the graveyard.
I did come across a strange man once who I followed and he turned and gestured no… then vanished into the grave yard….
My mum n dad got me a plaster Paris kit that had Dracula moulds as I was so into the whole thing …. I started to make candles out of them and leave them lite in the window to invite one…… all I ever found was a succubus
i'd say mine started when i was about 12yrs old, saw a movie on tv can't remember the name but was just fascinated by theses creatures that lurked in the dark and never died, started reading books after that.
I have been fascinated by by ghost and geist since the sixth grade vampires came by proxy as well as zombies, voodoo, and para behavior.I have never read a book of fiction about a vampire.
My interest started at age 8. I beleive I started watching Channel 48 (doesn't exist anymore) on Saturday mornings. They had all the old black and white horror movies. From there it would have been the Stephen King book - Salem's Lot.
My interests in Vampires first came from my Father, who loved good ole Vampire movies. Since then, I got interested myself and hung around vampire related websites for a quite a few years :)
I would say for as long as i can remember. i have always been fasinated by it
I was 9 years old and I used to read my father`s books (well only the ones that he let me to).One day I got this almanach named Utopia with strange short novels translated in Romanian. There I first read about Lovecraft, Cortazar and many many others. Also it was there an article about bram stoker`s novel and an English society that was keeping alive the myth.
I read the book 5 time later, after the fall of Communism, because until then the book could not be translated in romanian and was prohibited.Ceausescu the dictator was affraid of the "decadent" Dracula character and was forbidden to speak about that.LOL
I wish I could remember. I was always scared but fascinated as a kid. I wouldn't watch scary movies. But I did like watching Dark Shadows. Well, I was a teenager after all.
I was like 5 or 6 my parents were always watching Hooror flicks and movies the old ones like tom channey as the were wolf and all the vampire ones just so many .. LOl
Nothing really sparked my intrrest,it has just always been a part of me.
mine started when i was about 12 or 13 when my baby siter cut her iner thigh and asked me to tast it and ive been interested ever since
I've never had a defining moment, it's just always been there. I always read books and wanted the vampire to win (I was reading at a very early age), same with movies and TV shows. Blood never scared me, in fact when I was little I used to cut myself and play with the resulting blood. So yeah.
I was at really young age when I saw the "Interview with a Vampire", I found it very interesting and fascinating. It influenced my young psyche at such a young age toward unforgetable extents. I still cultivate the idea, and it seems like I will as long as I live.
Hm, I was 11. I was studying demons and stuff but only resources I had was the internet.. Don't remember exactly where I had been when it sparked my interest. A lot of the interest came from movies though. The steriotypical vampire with the blood sucking and the sleeping in the coffin and such.. I thought it was really cool. xD
i would have to say when i was a youngster and i saw Blade. shorty after, my dream became a reality
I have always loved the night, and as far vampires I found them at about 13, by reading ann rice's interview with a vampire
I was 6 or 7 years old at my cousins house watching black and white Bela Lugosi flicks.
Your going to laugh at me, but Bunnicula ...Then in no specific order Dracula , Ann Rices Interview with a Vampire And Steven kings Salams Lot.
Anne Rice books sparked my interest around 12 years old. I've always loved to read.
I dont remember the exact age, early teens maybe, but books first started it! lol Anne Rice and other authors. ( I too love to read) Also the history channel has always done specials on the paranormal, those got me very interested in the 'new world" vampires.
im not sure on what age i was but i first started getting interested in vampires and werewolves when i first saw vampirein brooklyn with eddie murphy
For me it was the cradle. I used to watch the scary movies with my mom and grandma. They loved Bela Lugosi.
I was 8 when I first became interested in magick and the occult sciences. My interest was sparked by as a result of something that happened to me.
I was raised in a home with alternative religion. My grandmother was a black foot indian and had her beliefs , my grand father was jewish, my mom was Christian... I was raised and encouraged to read, learn and explore all religions before i chose one. I have since chose wicca.
i was bout ten when i first started to get in to vampires.
When I was a kid watching the old black and white movies on the late show. I read Interview with a Vampire by Ann Rice in my early teens and liked it.
I was young when my interest started, not sure exactly what movie or anything, but i can remember watching the old movies that vincent price used to host every sat. they were the best. they dont show things like that anymore. such a pity. and I also read about them in books when i was old enough
I guess I was old when I started thinking about it I have always felt people feeding from me not my blood but more my powers.
since i saw the movies wolf with jack nicholson and bram stokers dracula
For me it was when a babysitter let me watch Salem's lot at 5 yrs old!! Had nightmares for yrs... but ended up loving them! ;-)
Where did it begin for me? When I was 8 years old. I was a very timid child, scared of even my own shadow. Over the summer, beofre I turned 9, my mom left me in the care of a baby sitter who loved horror movies. The vampire movies scared me the most; and now Im ashamed to admit that even the movie "The Lost Boys" scared me lol (its one of my favorites now). As I got older, I wanted to face my fears head on and see exactly WHY vampires scared me so much. I immersed myself in stories and legends, and in time I found that instead of being afraid, I was fascinated. Fast forward almost 20 years, to me finding my home here on the Rave! lol
My interest began when I was young. Using the movies and books as my resource. Then I started using my own logic and studies through resources such as books and people.
I had a really vivid dream when I was 14 about a vampire that came to my bedroom window and took me away for the night. Can't remember much more about it but I know thats when my interest really began.
The Blood of Christ, Holy Communion and the whole concept of transubstantiation. I couldn't even say the word, but the reaction from the nuns and priest trying to get me to stop asking questions was enuf to cement the blood thing in my mind.
It was so long ago I dont remember anymore. Ive been interested in them for most of my life. My interest started out small but began to grow a lot when I reached high school. Now my interest has cooled down a bit and Im not nearly as interested in them as I used to be. Its still great reading about them though :)
For me it was a soap opera my mother watched called Dark shadows... It made vampires very real to me...but They didn't scare me..it all seemed quite normal..
I have always been obsessed with living forever...so I guess it's an off-shoot of that? I don't really know. I've loved every aspect of being a vampire since I can remember.
Even younger than 11, I had a strong fascination of the unknown, of haunted places, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and was never afraid of the dark.
Even looked under the bed to try to find the monsters that were supposed to live there! I was disappointed never found one.
When I was pretty young, I saw Interview with a Vampire and I loved it..
I started watching horror films at a young age. When you're told not to the desire becomes stronger, they use to scare me to bits ... still do..lol
But nowadays its psychological horror which can be worse.
As a child, I always wanted to be different from everyone. Not better or worse, just different. Something that divided me from the world. Later on in life that void was filled with research about darkness and vampires and here I stand today.
I was probably about 6 or 7 when I started watching vampire movies on tv. I wanted to be one...I drew pictures of them. At halloween I always wanted to be a vampire and often fantasized about a vampire coming to me and turning me.
My interest began with the book Vampire in the Mists. I was probably...12 or 13. After that I started to read as many vampire books as I could get a hold of and even started to write one.
Pre-teen years...what a mess! (Still a mess)...
(My mom got me hooked on Dark Shadows too).
Well my interest started wayyyyyyyyyy back in the day from watching the movie the Howling.
As far back as I can remember, I have had dreams of a vampire woman standing over me as I slept. She is always hovering beside my bed watching over me, protecting me. At times, I have thought that I woke up and she was still there, but I could have still been dreaming. I still have this dream over and over again, not every night, yet the dream continues.
I remember when I was around 5 or 6 years old seeing vampires running along the hallways of my house, a vision as it were. When I would see them I would be afraid but as I got older my fear turned into curiosity.
Since about the age 13 I have always sought more information, contact, experience etc with not only vampires but anything super/paranormal.
My interest started over an astral/dream encounter, whatever you wanna call it and ever since then, i've done some research and it all went from there ;) If you wanna know more about my encounter...it's on the front of my profile. :P
My interest did not begin until, while researching the historical precedents of the "physiologically impossible" male sensual capacity I possess, I happened upon the original Slavic accounts of those called "vampires" and discovered that prior to the later fictions of blood-drinking, etc., the "vampire" was most specifically characterized for possessing this same "insatiable sexual appetite." This same ancient bloodline, once vilified as the "evil" descendants of the "Fallen Angels," had once again found themselves very similarly demonized in the Christian Era, as well... this time, as "vampires." And for the exact same reason: their unique, unlmited orgasmic capacity.
my interrest started at age three but i was unsure what it was at that time i just liked the old black and white scary hack and slash and stuff when i became sick and found my self allergic to the sun and garlic and onion and maple not that all those are vampire things i did develope a vamp fetish
I was actually about 4 or 5 when I started liking vampires. I remember having a little blackboard in my bedroom on which I used to draw chalk pictures of what I called 'bloodthirsty people' aswell as black crows. I'm not sure if this fascination began with any films or whatever, but if it did I certainly don't remember. I didn't used to call them vampires at that age anyway, perhaps I didn't know the word.
By the ages of 6-7 I was playing vampire games at school, writing stories about them and still drawing pictures. Basically I've always loved them and am proud of the fact that it's not because of any film, book or tv show. :p
Think ive always been interested in Vampires.
What really got me was buffy >
Hmmmm well i think i was very young about 5 when i actually started thinkin about blood and it purpose was facinated byt scars and healing and even tried tasting it a few times as for movies it was old bela movies that made me intresed .
I have always had a fascination for the darker side of mankind. I have always been a horror fan, and I started reading kids stories and then moved up to the literature I read today.
What sparked my interest later on in life was a project I made in history about Erzebeth Barthory or the blood countess as she is called. I was sickened and at the same time fascinated with her acts of pure evil in the name of vanity. I started to do some more research about which lead me to more interesting aspects of what is known as vampirism or a vampiric lifestyle.
My interests in vampires have never run towards the fictional vampire, but I do enjoy the books because I find them slightly romantic, with characters you can identify yourself with.
For me it was when I was a kid and watched the old movies about vampires
I seriously have no idea. For as long as I can remeber I have always been interested in vampires and skulls. My mum and dad were bikers and I got brought up seeing images around the home of skulls and fantasy art. Vampires, films I suppose. My favourate vampire film was 'Interview with the vampire'
oh lets see i think i was about maybe 5 when i saw my first vampire movie. Of course i was way too young to think about how freakin erotic bitting is but I think it was just because i was facinated with the whole fangs, bitting into peoples neck.
I was too young to really remember when I first became interested in the darker side of life, I remember watching black and white vampire movies when I was very young.
I have always watched horror movies. I have a stack of the old black & white ones. I would say my interest in vampires really peaked about 10 years ago when my then husband bought the Bram Stoker's movie Dracula. I was all into it since then.
Not sure how old I was am guessing extremely young. My babysitter was a bit sadistic in a way and use to watch the movies all the time. So in order to keep an eye on me I had to watch them with her. Suppose now that I think about it was about 4. Then when I was bad she would lock me in a room in the dark and scratch at the door telling me the vamps were going to come get me. Needless to say was a non-fearing child and so I waited. I know sounds twisted and really am not twisted in nature now. Luckily had no scarring affect other than the fact that am now facinated by anything gothic and vampy.
I grew up and have lived in Salem my whole life. . Witches and Vampires have surrounded me my entire life.
As a teenager I had a great time hanging around all the old burial grounds and seeing all the tourist that visit here year after year.
I guess i was born into it.
I think I became interested when I was able to know what a Vampire was. I liked the old movies and I read Bram Stoker's Dracula and I was hooked ever since.
It began in 1992 when I first saw Bram Stoker's Dracula. It was hooked ever since.
My interest in vampires began shortly after reading Bram Stokers Dracula.
After that I started to watch various movies and getting into the fictional stories that surround vampires and the such.
Oddly enough my infatuation didnt start until I graduated high school and went to my first creepy but cool HOUSE..
I don't remember when it began but I do remember watching movies like Lost Boys and Fright Night and Buffy The Vampire Slayer when I was younger and it fasinated me then. But then again popular myth alwasy fascinated me.
Hmm... probably when I was about 4 (1975)
Two things that i can recall would have influenced me...
a.) The hillarious house of frightenstein
b.) Bugs Bunny
c.) The Count
But I cannot remember a specific instance where I have not known what a vampire was... so It must be bugs bunny or the Count... I can't remember what year sesame street started but all three were probably arround the same time in my awareness.
Since then there have been so many sources... but I remember the hunger being the first not cheesy vampire movie I'd ever seen... shortly followed by the addiction.
I was more interested in the Bunyip as a child tho, as aborigional stories were my first childrens books.
I had a dream when I was perhaps seven. It's funny to think of the dream now because how I was bitten. I was at school carnival and dangerous action was taking place so I slid under one of the stands. This person stops next to the stand, takes my hand and pulls me out. Next thing I know the bugger was biting my head. The top of my head.
Second time I thought of Vampires was perhaps when I finally got to watch all of IWTV w/o interruptions when I was abut twelve.
Ever since then most of my reading has been with about vamps.
When my mother was pregnant with me she watched Dark Shadows a lot. Perhaps I was first exposed to vampires while still in the womb? LOL :p
My father used to be into Withcraft and stuff so my awakening in the dark side happened very early (I also remember me as a child sneaking so I can watch horror movies, I just loved being scared..)
As for Vampires in particular, I must was about 11 yrs old when I borrowed from the library Le Fanu's "Carmilla" and it haunted me for good :)
I guess mine started late when I showed my power to a vampyric friend of mine. He uses energy feeds and give it off as well. He was in pain and I tried to pull deep pain out of him. He commented on my strenght and offered to let me feed off his enengy. It was a very opening experience because I had always drawn power from thing around me and nature and groups I guess. I had never feed off of a single person. He did have a lot of power store and after then I could always feel when the link was broken between us.
I wonder to other feed and then let people feed off of them?
Because I am the youngest in my family and have four older brothers my interest began at an early stage because there is such an age gap between me and my brothers. So they where into ghosts and vampires and witches etc so to me it was normal
I would have to say the fascination began somewhere around 13 or 14. But the exposure came earlier with books like "Bunnicula" (thanks for reminding me Mistress :p)
Lost Boys was the first "scary" movie I could really tolerate and I found the vampires sensual. I've never seen them as evil creatures, just fascinating ones.
Then I began to read Anne Rice and well...she humanized them even further. I can't say I believe vampires really exist but the idea of the life they lead is a wonderful world to wonder into every so often.
at an early age prolly around 10 or maybe younger when my grandmother showed me the original 1930's dracula thats when i first started my love for the vamps and etc
i dont know but i have always been intrested in things of the night, mystery and the unknown.
Since I was a child I liked anything dark and horror, and used to envy a lot Americans for celebrating Halloween, while the rest of the girls used to be scared XD
Tv has influenced me a lot and later on so did books.
