James Cameron director of Titanic in 1997 was on Good Morning America today...he believes he has found the real Tomb of Jesus Christ and even his family Mary Magdalene and his son Judith. Which would make a lot of the things said in the Da Vinci Code true. Do you think this is real or all a hoax? What is your opinion when he says he isn't trying to mock Christianity is he telling the truth? What do you think of these findings?

A documentary presenting the evidence, "The Lost Tomb of Jesus," will premiere on the Discovery Channel on March 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The documentary comes from executive producer James Cameron and director Simcha Jacobovici.

This tomb was discovered about 10 years ago and didn't rock the world then. Cameron is really into trying to bend archeological evidence to meet his beliefs. I believe his main evidence was the names which were pretty common names for that time period.

That is what the first person to ever stumble upon the tomb said and I know that that is very true...I myself believe it is Cameron trying to make what he believes is correct.

I have to jump in on the side of the nay sayers.

The names on the ostuaries were very common at the time of Jesus' life.

There was an Israely "Antiquities collector" a few years back who claimed to have possesion of an ostuary that Jesus's brother's reamins were entombed in. After extesnive research into the facts, it was discovered to be a fake.

I think Cammeron has just milked all he could out of the Titanic and is looking for another cash producing route.

I was under the impression that James Cameron considered himself religious and that this wasn't intended to destroy faith but reinforce it. I find that his narration of these documentaries (he's done others like this on the Arc of the Covenent) is a bit too much like drinking his own Kool Aid. He's trying to sound like he's being unbiased but what he's saying is VERY biased and it comes across as disingenuous.

If I recall my bible... Mary and Joseph were poor. I think it is fake if for no other reason but by looking at this logically, they would not have been able to afford a family tomb.... Who knows, Im not scientist nor am I an archeologist.

It'll be interesting to watch. Most people don't even realize the word Jesus is a Roman title and not a name and that there where more than one 'Jesuses' running around at the same time all claiming to be prophets.

This will be just as good as the new talks about Noah’s Ark being discovered.

I don't believe this is true- even Dan Brown (author of The DaVinci Code) explained in the interview of the DVD's special features that he took a bunch of rumor and conspiracy theories to create a great suspense movie. It's all entertaiment. I love the entertainment- even though I don't believe any of it. I enjoy a good imagination.

His name was Joshua and there was many others named the same. If he left any bones behind, they would have been saved and locked in a save place many years ago. There is no way in Hell that everyone in his family is in the same tomb. He didn't have a family plot. lol.

There is a story that he had a daughter but not son. There have been stories that his real body is buried in India, and Mary (his mother) buried in Pakistan.

I have no doubt this is all BS and will end the same as all the other History/Discovery stories - 'it could be true but we'll never know for sure.' I'm still waiting to hear someone say his family is really buried in Atlantis or Avalon.

I will not waste my time. I'll be coloring my hair instead.

Well, there could have been someone named Jesus...But, I thought Jesus(the holy guy) was to have had a daughter named Sarah, but it's all speculation. Lets say, I hope it is bull because I don't want to have to change my beliefs! As far as the Davinci Code, great book.

The da Vinci code was interesting and a good story that didn't pretend to be real. Sort of like the stories about clues hidden in the dollar bills or decloration of Independance. This might have been an interesting film if they hadn't tried to say it's real. If I want to believe a lie I can go to a used car lot. This is not the tomb of Christ or any of his family. Since he was supposed to have been executed by the Romans, I don't think they'd then allow a tomb to exist that could be used by the followers of a faith they were fighting against.

CHRIST'S BONES 'FOUND INSIDE ANCIENT TOMB'
By Steve Dinneen
THE bones of Jesus, Mary and Joseph may have been discovered in Jerusalem - then stolen again according to incredible claims in a new book.

Authors Simcha Jacobovici and Charles Pellegrino say scientists uncovered a burial chamber under an apartment building in 1980, inscribed with the names of the holy family.

Their book The Jesus Tomb claims three sets of bones were discovered which DNA tests proved were related and dated back to the times of the New Testament.

The bones were found among 10 other sets of remains, all of which were moved to the Rockefeller Archaeological museum outside Jerusalem.

But in a Da Vinci Code-style twist, while the other 10 sets of bones were catalogued, the holy remains were left outside in a courtyard and stolen before further tests could be carried out. The Jesus Tomb has attracted scepticism from many academics who say the remains are unlikely to be those of Jesus and his family.

History professor Amos Kloner said: "At least three other ossuaries have been found inscribed with the name Jesus and countless others with the names Mary and Joseph.

"It is just not possible that a family who came from Galilee would be buried in Jerusalem."

But the authors believe the chances of another family living in the same place at the same time and with the same names are one in 10million.

THEALMIGHTY13:

If this all holds true with the DNA testing and so forth, then you might as well throw your new testament bibles out the window and burn them.
I am a very skeptical person anyway when it comes to religion, I need hard, concrete evidence to believe what the bible says. Afterall, Stephen King and Anne Rice have written some of the most prestige and unbelievable stories of our time. Who's to say that people way back then didn't have the imaginations Stephen King and Anne Rice do and made up the stories in the bible?
There are already conspiracy theories regarding Jesus and his disciples. I'm wondering how many more are going to be made now with this "lost tomb of Jesus Christ".

where did jame found the tomb? as far as i know mary magdalene was buried in france when she fled the east. she was pregnant with her daughter named sarah. there are so many documentary books saying that it is the real nameof their child.

besides if this proves that the davinci code is true, then james' discovery is false because according to dan brown, the body of mary magdalene is hidden by a secret society called the priory of sion.

I personally cannot comment on a documentary I have not seen nor can I a test to the evidence that may or may not be cited during the documentry.

Anyone who claims to know the evidence at this point must be one of the films producers or may just channeling their psychic ability. My guess is that probably no one knows what this documentary will reveal or not reveal and any comment on it is merely speculation or opinion based solely on faith and absent in fact.

I'm going stir the pot a bit because THAT is my speciality. lol

Even though I do believe it is not factual, I find the "what if" part of it amazing.

Like what if there was SOME way it was true. The feeling of being in the presence of someone so great. To maybe even actually hold the remains of a person who changed life, ways of thinking and beliefs forever. To walk along an area where you know the bare feet of a divine grace once laid his feet upon. The over whelming feeling someone must have felt when they had just a glimmer it could be a possibility.

I know it's a VERY long shot. But the feeling would be breath taking.

I don't think it is as much as a hoax as people think. We all know that Jesus existed or so I hope people know he did... Proof exist not only in the bible but other text. Yes Jesus's name is for a fact a popular name but we can't dismiss it based on little evidence that we have at the current moment. We just have to wait and see what happens with the idea.

I don't perticularly believe it is true however... I find it kind of out there and there is a lot of things against it but I can't claim my opinion 100% true yet. I have to read and look into it more.

Considering it's hard to prove Jesus ever existed with exception to the bible, then I would assume that his tomb doesn't exist either. It's a rather neat way to explain a resurrection... a man that never existed to begin with except as a folk hero.

There is proof Jesus has existed not just through the bible. THe Dead Sea Scrolls is another source as well as other historical finds that have proven his existence. Whether he is the son of God or a messenger of God or God himself is up to the believer. I think they found proof in other works as well as digging up a few things indicating his stay mostly in Galilee (if I am not mistaken).

Anyway he was a central figure during that period.

Also to mention The bible does hold some historical value and has been proven through science and discovery. Though not everything in the bible is true and is clear metaphors some of the noted historical parts of the bible have been proven.

Yes I did a little research.

Trust me I am not Christian by any means but I do believe that some of the information in the bible as well as other text have proven true over research and discovery.

"James Cameron director of Titanic in 1997 was on Good Morning America today...he believes he has found the real Tomb of Jesus Christ and even his family Mary Magdalene and his son Judith. Which would make a lot of the things said in the Da Vinci Code true. Do you think this is real or all a hoax?" (Mieta1)

Hoax.

These ossuaries containing bones were discovered seventeen years ago and it was revealed at the time that they had nothing to do with Jesus or His family.

In fact, Jesus' name does not appear on any of the ossuaries as falsely claimed by this most recent attempt to promote and further a well-known heresy originating with the Masons, ie that Jesus did not die on the Cross and that he and Mary Magdalene married and had children.

The scratches on one of the ossuaries they attribute to Jesus' name actually reads as something else entirely.

How many times does a hoax need to be exposed to stop these greedy people from cashing in on it and bandwagoneering to bulk up their bank balance?

Wow a lot of opinion I'm glad to see all these facts and opinions.

New question to add for those who think it may be possible that this is a real find....how do you think this will affect people of the Christian religion? As I've seen one person here say that they didn't want to have to change their beliefs because of this.

It will devastate a lot of people...people look to Jesus Christ and the lord for inspiration and power...believing in something as divine as this has improved the sense of many people could the world start to decline as more people come to realize that what they believed in could possibly be all fake? Or would will withstand this?

The way I see it if you believe something so much and get so much power off of it would you really deny it? Or just keep living?

Well here's a little ditty:

Since (Jesus) was a priest after the order of Melchesidek, and Melchesidek was known as the King of Peace and Jesus as the Prince of Peace, it would stand to reason that a King is greater than a Prince.
If Jesus was a priest after the order of Melchesidek then he would have had to go through the seven schools of Melchesidek.....and no not as a child.....you enter the schools at the age of 40 so that blows the cruci-fiction theory.
And why come disguised as a gardener, bump into a person who knows you and tell them to LIE for you. If you had died on the cross why worry about being seen.

I'm not asking these as questions for myself I already know the answers, I'm just putting it out there for some to think about.

I call myself a Christian, but the Bible in and of itself cannot be the real deal, looking at history.

I am drawing my information from history, I am not stating fact. Just to prevent confusion. There really was a council of Nicea that decided what was and wasn't part of the bible, it was called by Constantine. At this meeting it was declared that Father, Son and Holy Spirit were one and the same. The reason they did this was to effectivly outcast those who believed that these were three different entities. Who knows what other things were decided there?

The Roman Emperor I mentioned last time is named Theodocious I, he was the one who made christianity official, if he hadn't, it is speculated that christianity would have died out.

It is very possible that after this Council of Nicea, held long after Jesus's death, also declared that he had no family. Remember, what was decided here is what we know today of it, all sorts of things could have been changed and ommited. It could very well have happened that Jesus did marry Mary Magdaline and had childrem with her. My point is that if Jesus was crucified on the cross, the simple beliefs against him and Christianity would make it much more likely that jesus was not buried woth his family. It is possible that Mary and her child were buried together, since they could have lived the rest of their lives in some sort of peace.

I will, however, watch the documenary and see what is has to share.

If this documentary reveales something substantial, it would not affect my personal beliefs. I cannot take the Bible as being truth when it has been minipulated so much through history, and theerefor, if something were to be proven true that contradicts the Bible, I would not be suprised.

well this is going to be a hot topic in the medea as it picks up more steam. my view is that he is missimformed. there is even disput as to the spelling on the coffins. even more importantly is the fact that if he proves it then he disproves the bible witch has been a point of reference for history. if the bible is historicly wrong then we will have to look at all recordings of history. but simply put i think it false.

I don't believe that James Cameron's intention is to destroy faith and neither do I think this discovery (were it well founded and actually proven) would harm Christianity in general. I've seen his past documentaries of a similar nature and his intent seemed to be to reinforce faith (such as his documentary on the Arc of the Covenant). I also think hoax is perhaps the wrong term to apply here. Overly dramatic is definitely a way I'd describe his prior work and perhaps overly optimistic when he attempts to draw final conclusions that still lack a great deal of facts.

Often when a person of faith is trying to prove something that they themselves want to believe, they will infer 'solid evidence' from things that are more circumstantial at best. This is similar to how 'ghost hunters' will perceive temperature changes as proof of a spiritual presence instead of just more unanswered questions. Given his ability to use CGI and dramatic scripting and effects, he makes the evidence SEEM more important and this reinforces his own agenda but I don't think that he's deliberately lying or misleading so much as pushing his perspective on disputed findings.

Regardless if it is true or not, I am sure it will make great tv. There are always questions that are unprovable when it comes to faith. The ones who believe in Jesus Christ and believe he ascended into heaven, will keep on believing just that... and the skeptics will keep on being skeptics.

Ancient history is hard to prove. As several on this thread have stated, the Council of Nicaea meet 325ad- almost three whole centuries after Jesus's death. Imagine playing the game where one person tells a story and then the message goes through a chain of thousands of people before it gets written down... My guess is that there are parts that might be dead on, and parts that might be construed quiet a bit from what really went on.

Even if he was married, had kids, and perished like all mortals, that really doesnt detract from the message of Jesus.

this will have different impact in catholics. maybe some willhave stronger faith because a claim that finding the tomb of someone they worship proves that he is real. but skeptics would think that it just a hoax. it depends on how people think.

maybe it's worth a try if they compare the DNA of the james cameron's discovery to that of jesus.

Wow. A lot of what ifs in here. That's the big problem with ancient history. You can say just about anything, and there's no real way to prove you wrong. People just use stuff like this to convince the gullible. If they really wanted to prove something, they'd do some serious research and publish it in an archeological journal where professionals can verify the facts.

All this showboating sounds like a plea for attention, and it's banking on the Da Vinci Code tripe that so many people have swallowed without doing the least bit of background research. Honestly.

And has anyone noticed how this kind of religious 'discovery' always seems to come out right before a Christian holiday? Of course, I doubt it's going to change anyone's opinion, other than to piss them off a bit. No one likes having their beliefs constantly being called into question over the most idiotic and unsupportable claims.

Either way, it would be physically impossible for them to prove that any tomb or set of remains actually was Jesus'. With no DNA, the most they could prove is that it was somehow in the realm of possibility that perhaps it was Jesus'.

And using that logic, I could speculate that Chuck Norris has a secret time machine, and that he really was Jesus. He didn't die on the cross, he just took a very long nap. It was all that persecution that made him so violent. Now, prove me wrong.

Mieta1 get a realaty chekc there is no such things, I have studied for over 13 years the life and everything suroundings the REAL story of Jesus Christ, well there is only tomb and only one, no lost or hidden or secret, just one and it was always the same. I dont care if I am flamm for this but I was a baptist, a protestant, also studied with the mormon, and a bit with the Jewish, and then became a Jehovah's witness all this in about 20 years total, 13 being the last vocation, I was even raised with nouns and in a covent for about 7 years of my school time, now tell me you think some producer of fiction movies know more about Jesus then the reserchers I studied with and the ppl I was surounded by? Along with ym own research for over 13 years in books and other media?

Forgot one last detail, Jesus NEVER had a child, with NO ONE.
Man wake up ppl, if he did think we would just found out now? and that there would be no trace in the bible the book that is relating his life? And the old documents? Dam it, wake up call, why do ppl go for speculation instead of real fact, proven ones, plus the thing is that he came was to give his life for us, (okay dont flamm me yet please) so if he had a kid then this would be stupid of him and wrong cause this would make him irresponsible, so how could he be a perfect price by dying if he was acting iresponsible and stupid?

I'm looking forward to the James Cameron documentary very much...such entertainment value. No, don't think he found the tomb and resting place of Jesus H. (lol) Christ, or Mary, or Judith. What would be the odds, this is James Cameron we're talking about. Sorry if this offends anyone...but no, I don't believe it for a second.

Thank you Sevenn for putting a tab on that for me.

This thread is about discussion not opinion so much or personal belief...

And exactly Vashti....Even if it was how do your prove it? How can anyone be 100% sure...documents aren't always correct and who's to say that they documents kept were really the truth...a document is written who can say that they are all 100% true? Am I right? Documents of other scientific expeditions have been proved false by new technologies and sciences today.

Mieta1 - You have a point, that is why religion is based on faith not fact. No one may ever know for a fact. Even if we where to stand before "God" you would not KNOW if it where him or some 'Wizard of Oz' want to be with cool parlor tricks we have never seen before.

The fact that all sides arguing over Christ’s existence have been looking for some hard facts or evidence to prove he did and they have all failed. We are only left with faith AND silly capitalistic people making money off the topic and putting together entertaining TV shows.

That is the point. I don't doubt the possibility of a tomb being found labeled as 'A' Christ’s tomb as there where many running around at the same time. But as of yet there have been no facts that ‘THE’ Christ of Christianity existed outside the Bible.

Christ was simply a title, so there could have been tons of them with the possibility that a few would have been buried in tombs that could be later found by archeologists. Look at how many Ministers we have running around today and some even say they work miracles and speak directly to God. In a few thousand years archeologists can find their graves and ponder who they where and others can make shows about them.

[Middle English Crist, from Old English Crīst, from Latin Chrīstus, from Greek Khrīstos, from khrīstos, anointed, verbal adj. of khrīein, to anoint; see ghrēi- in Indo-European roots.]

[Origin: learned respelling of ME, OE Crīst
a teacher and prophet born in Bethlehem and active in Nazareth; his life and sermons form the basis for Christianity (circa 4 BC - AD 29)

A title for Jesus meaning “Messiah” or “anointed one.”

So how was she buried with him? It all raises too many questions and doesn't prove anything really. Guess I would have to watch the show, but I am skeptical!
