One has to acknowledge that those of faith are making a decision that is rightfully impossible to prove as the one true path. I don't know HOW they actually make that choice but I would guess that once someone HAS faith, it's a little easier to accept that what their doing is right based on that very same faith.

In other words...for most, believing in it simply makes it right.

I would have to say that I believe Christianity to be based on truth; however, there is much that was not incorporated into the modern Bible by the Church. As with all other religions there are things that they do not want you to be privy to in order to keep you under a stricter set of guidelines and rules.

The Church is a business of sorts and they want to make money as well. I would say as long as you believe in one higher power and you live your life accordingly then you will be fine when the day comes to meet your maker. It doesn't matter what "religion" you follow.

Most religeons state that if you seek with an open heart that you will find the truth.
Knock and the door shall open, et.al.

I personally have found tha tevery religeon I have studied has confirmed my own faith... i am curerntly studying buddism with Diligence... and althought eh focus is different.. i find that it broadens my awarensess of my own religeon. I personally find that all religeons come from the same source... and that the differnece between them are largely cultural and that if you are studying directly from the texts there are few anomalies between them. It is purely the interpretation and dogma of the various human fragmentations, that have caused so many falsehoods... in my opinion.

One way to find the "right path" for you would be to study aspects of different religions. Take aspects of the various religions that seem "right" and try to live by them. Discard the rest.

Or another way might just be to live by the mentality of "And ye harm none, do as ye will."

There is no real right path. It is the same as asking what is the meaning of life.

The whole reason we are here is to walk where we walk. And to live how we live. There really is no right or wrong way.
But what we experiance as we go that is more important. Our choices and our actions are what define us. The path is always changing and it is how we take those changes that make it the right path. But that is only the ramblings of an old Bear in the woods.

I believe everyone has a different path...no path is "right".

This question always reminds me of the Monk who sat for days, if not longer, at a crossroads. He was overly concern which path to choose. He did not want to chose the incorrect one. So he sat and sat and sat. He spent too much time in his head and literally created Chaos for himself. He ended up following neither path and wasted his life.

When we make ourselves follow a particular religion, we are picking a path to follow. This is good. But it is only a path to which to follow. It should not be a goal nor create a title for us to carry.

A person may start with Roman Catholic at a young age and then come to a fork in their life. They may wish to choose a different Christian path, being more flexible or they may choose to study Jewish-ism, since that is the beginning of the Bible. It is a path of life study and experience. The person will now form a title for themselves. Either they will call them Christan instead of Catholic or they may go to an extreme and convert to Jewish-ism. Either choice of path will set them to other choices and paths. And most likely to new titles.

The above example will go on forever. Always picking new paths and new titles.

I mixed up the words religion and paths for a reason. Many of us will agree that there is no correct path to follow in life. We pick our own paths and we follow them. It may be fun, or it may not be. But we do choose and we make ourselves flexible in making these paths.

So why is there a big problem or concern about picking or following a particular religion? And trying to make it the "right one!"

People make religions. They by themselves do not exist. So, obviously, there is no correct one or real one to follow. Now is there?

If you need to have guidelines in your life or something to believe in fine. But please understand that as your life changes, so does your need for a new belief system. The world does not understand this and this a major issue. People do not like changes and or not flexible in their belief systems. They also create titles for themselves and then own them. this too is a major issue.

If you treat a religion as a path, knowing that the path will change, you will not question if the religion is the correct one. If you following a religion, then that religion is correct for you - at that moment.

There are many paths that can lead to to the right destination. Who you are and the choices you makes are of your own and you can only try to hold to what you consider good moral judgments... It is always in the eye of the beholder.

I follow a path inwhich I know there may be a higher being but I can not base myself upon a man made religion. My opinion

I cannot begin to equal the eloquence of those before me in this thread but I do believe there is a “right” path. The problem is that only the person following the path will know if it’s right or not. It will most probably change many times as your life and your beliefs change to meet the demands upon you. The “right” path is the one in which you are comfortable with yourself and your beliefs. For many this is organized religion for others it’s a different choice that includes the choice of believing in no higher powers at all. As long as your path makes you happy, is within legal boundaries and doesn’t infringe on anyone else’s beliefs then it’s your “right” path.

I am a Christian. I belong to and am an Elder in a "main stream" protestant denomination.

This is the "right path" and the right religion for ME. I have friends that are Jews, Muslims, Hindu, Wiccan, Pagan, Agnostic, Atheist.......etc. Who am I to tell them their path / religion is wrong for THEM?

I don't like when the "door knocker" folks come by to tell me that I'm going to hell, why would I tell someone else the same?

The God I believe in will make the decisions about who gets what treatment in the afterlife, not anyone here on Earth.

Follow the path that feels right for YOU. Try to learn from people who believe / practice differently. Keep an open mind and do not judge other's based on your assumptions of what they believe.

Each person who claims to be "religious" also believes his or her religion is the "right one." Like others have stated before me, religion is purely individual - what you consider to be "right" is then right for you.
Like someone also stated, check out each religion to see what fits your belief system the most effectively. You might find you identify more with Eastern religions, which focus more on gaining enlightenment. I myself do not believe in the concept of heaven or hell: from what I have learned through research, the Catholics came up with both concepts as a way to keep thier followers in line.
But again, it is what suits your own belief system, and which religion provides meaning for you. Finally, faith is something we believe in: there is no fact to back up any religious belief system. It is based on faith:)

Exactly...I'll say this once and it is what I believe firmly in. It doesn't matter what you have faith in, it's just that you have faith.

Many religions are too self-righteous to understand this. Does it really matter? if you are inspired to live your life to the fullest and be as good as you can to others around you then that is good enough for anyone I think.

Religion is overrated...Faith is not.

*holds up right hand* That way is the right path.

No one knows what it is, for we all travel different paths through our world and our existence. What works for one will never work for everyone else, so there is no "right" or "wrong" path.

Worrying about your own path only leads to indecision and indecision is what kills you in the long run and causes you to miss out on life.

Rather than worry about what the masses believe is right, I worry if what I am doing is going to work out the best for me in the long run. That is how I know that I am on the right path. My path runs along the lines of no religion and no preset beliefs of 'right and wrong'.

Incidentally, why on earth do you believe that you must be on a religious path to be on the right path? Religion is a man-made set of beliefs that make the road easier for those who follow. It is little more than that. Faith notwithstanding, religion requires little in terms of personal insight and personal understanding as to the workings of spirituality. That's just my personal opinion.

Faith, as the belief in that which cannot be seen, always remains a vital part of spirituality.

I am reminded of robert frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I believe that the right path comes from the heart. knowing the wrong path is not that hard (at least on how you live, not to say there aren't tough decisions).

I am not sure there is one 'right' religion, but I am positive that there are a million wrong ways to practice each and every one of them.

No one knows what the "right" path is, it is just something you must choose and follow it. You cannot be someone or something you are not. It is up to you to live your life and take the path you feel is correct for you and your beliefs. It is an individual decision, choice, and opinion.

SO if everyone agrees that the right path is pretty much whatever path you decide is right for you, then are those on the 'left hand path' purposely choosing something they know to be the opposite of what is 'right' (by it's very name)? Or is the left hand path merely someone else's right hand path with a cooler name? Just curious about the opinions on this.

To me i ask what is the right path, i believe its something that one follows for the sake of good or for themselves.

Consciouly making wise decisions may lead to a more progressive life. Up until i was 13 years old I was lutheran, but the death of a dear and beloved brother had shaken my morals and i began the process of being open and it was then on that ive been trying to better my own life and others in any way i can.

Since then i believe ive made alot of progress. I know that ive made mistakes but its not like i havent learned anything from them, sometimes maybe the right path is just fixing what youve found from ur own experience has failed.

I will say this. There is no right path. Every religion ever created was about the person who was in control. If you were in power, what you believed is what everyone was forced to believe, it is still done that is why people are brought up in church, its not by choice. Its one thing if you enjoy something but I have found that there are no complete answers to any question that guarantees you a place anywhere other then where you are right now. Faith is only as strong as the believer and no one in any religion has done everything exactly the way there suppost to due to forgetting to do it. Doing it improperly, not following a schedule of tasks. In rare cases you dont belong. You find a religion without hipocricy and you may find a religion that believes in telling the truth.

I hunt.. for food not sport. if it was up to me would never see the sun.. I do many things that main stream religons of all kinds say is wrong or evil. Yet the one I follow.. the only one that has ever made me feel whole and right.. has no problem with what I do.

Its a matter of finding that which your soul knows and is comfortable with... all I can say is after years.. decades of looking I sort of found it by accident. But I do know my path is mine.. it snot for everyone.. and maybe for me alone. When you find the path you should be on you will know it.

Right path, hmmmmm

There is a lot to be said for what is right and what is wrong, or better yet what is the true way through life and what is the "other than true", I won't say lies because even truth sometimes contains lies in order to make it's point and the other way around as well.
Every philosophy has a "right path" Islam, Taoism, Christianity, Shintoism, The Way of Buddah...they all have a path that is determined for their particular "race" and that may be embraced by nearly anyone seeking enlightenment of some sort.
Historically/Religiously/Philisophically, the older "paths" were genetically or should I say racially specific.
The religion of Moses and Abraham was not Judaism, then what was it ? and it was specific for only the Israelites not the Ishmaelites or any other tribes or families. And if Abraham took Hagar, an Egyptian then what was her "path", remembering at the time that the Egyptians or Mizramites of that period did not worship, Osiris, or Isis, or Anubis or any other, how should I put this....entity. Egyptian "philosophers" and "thinkers" love to push the entity thing to fill in their gaps of thought and supposition.
What was the Ishmaelite "path"? and when Jesus came into the picture he was specific about his mission...to the lost sheep of the house of Israel ONLY, the 72 others he sent out did not go into the way of the gentile to bring them the philosophy but rather into the way of the gentile to find remnants of Israel, who at that time had gathered what was left of Benjamin and Dan as well. Everyone seems to conveniently forget about the Falasha and the Danakil...People also seem to conveniently forget about Jesus promising to send one who would come after him who would guide ALL people back into truth...and no it wasn't the Holy Spirit like some people like to believe or rather profess in order to set their philosophy straight. So we all know where Christianity came from, then what is the "Right Path".

If all "Paths" more or less teach the same things....ex: Treating others with respect, not killing out of greed or anger, not stealing, in essence what some would consider "commandments" then the right path, would be to follow that which protects you brother and allows for a peace to exist between all peoples.
In essence....If something disturbs the peace of your heart...Don't Do It. If something disturbs your essence, abstain from doing it.
The "Right Path" is different for everyone but if everyone observed treating one another as equals without ego and with humility.....well that's impossible isn't it...so the right path only exists for the individual who chooses to be of a higher self and lives live in tune with the natural aspects of Creation and walks in the land in beauty of soul and spirit.
We create the "right path" if for anything, for ourselves.

My opinion on this is that the "right path" as far as religion is what is right for ourselves. And what we feel works best for us. To believe in one god or many. To be more spiritual or ritualistic. Everyone will tell you that their way is the right way. But it really just comes down to the individual.

I believe no matter what, stick to the 10 laws of Zen..or the commandments,Whatever you choose to call them, and in the long run, things will work out. There are only ten of them. That is it really. All the rest,it is all fringe,no matter the colour.JMOP.

There is no right path. The right path is the one that a person follows. We all have our own ideas and personalities. We do things to suit our needs. I believe that the belief that a person holds dear is their own "right path."

I chose my path 10 years ago. am a Pagan. did go through life looking for a belief that i felt connected with, i went to many churches... they were not for me...Since i have chosen my path, i have never questioned t nor have i swayed. but that isfor me.. like others have said, you must chose your own and looking into the beliefs...not just doing it because its "cool"... that is my opinion.

My parents where way into the whole church thing. And yes I was the misfit that was going to burn in hell cause I wasn't doing anything right in the eyes of god. Really I don't think I was a bad kid but because I believed differently I was wrong. In growing up I found that I had to find my own path that was right for me. There is no way you will get the acceptance from anyone especially if it's not in the norm of society. But you have to feel right with what you are doing, search within your self and you will find your path.

The only way to tell if a religion is the right religion is through sheer, unadulterated bias.

Religion is a System of Beliefs used to, essentially, group people together in a Dogmatic Society, searching for Utopia...Usually. It being based on beliefs, and beliefs being....well.....beliefs. One can only surmise which one is correct or 'right' through belief, mainly their own.

If you know in your heart and mind that the path you are following is the one for you, then you will learn with time to ignore the tormenting comments of those who do not follow the same path.
You will always have haters, it's upto you to acknowledge them or not.

Who is to say what path is right. I believe the path is different for each and every one of us. What I choose, will not necessarily be what you choose. Isn't that what makes us all unique. And, who are we to judge each other's choices. I think whatever path you choose is yours to do with exactly what you want. As long as you believe that what you feel is the right path, that's all that really matters.

Well, not only define right and wrong for you as already stated just perfectly,
but also see, wether you have an aim or not.

Focus on your target. This will lead you.

I but think you just feel lost and insecure
between all those believes and faithes,
all the religious demands and rules,
all the claims and offerings.

I know this feeling exactly for I am still searching for an answer myself.

But I move, while searching. As told in the parabel of the monk or the song about the traveller:
Don't just stand there!

Walk on.
Keep your eyes and heart open.
Smile.

Until I really find something else to believe in and put my faith in,
I just believe in _me_:

- I do, what I feel right (yes, instinctivly)
- I avoid, what I feel wrong (too)
- I reflect my self and my thoughts constantly...

... and compare them with every new knowledge I find, be it a religion, a path, a Believe or a Faith.

A good sense for your consience, ethic and inner moral is given to you by birth and education. If it matches and feels okay:

Just do it!

And behold your surroundings.. how do they react? How do you feel about their reactions? If it feels not that comfortable, see, what causes this and see, wether you want to change it to feel okay again.

Just keep your mind open...

...and smile.

It'll be good.

We all choose our own path and it is no one elses concern or business what it is. Each of us create our own limits and ideas on what is right an wrong in our eyes. Only if you yourself feel uncomfortable about where you are or are heading should be worried about if the path you take is indeed the right one for you.

Many religions smite others because they do not share the same beliefs. In fact the majority of people seem to have a problem if you do not share their beliefs. I believe people like this are uncomfortable in their own skin and therefore feel the need to attack others to justify themselves in some way....

The right path is whatever feels right to you. Who's to say it's wrong or right. Truth is, no one knows. And anyone in a religion can't say for sure that it happened. It could just be the hyperactive imagination of some drugged up psycopath. NO ONE knows..... so just do what feels right. Always worked for me.

I belive that whatever path we choose is irrelevant as we will probably change our minds more than once. There is none destined or One defined path. No one choice that will not result in dammnation .
the choice is what ever benifits you most to belive. As for the christians not thinking we are normal we are just lucky we live in this time so that they cannot persucute us to the fullest extent as they have in the centuries past. They have been this way for along time and i dont see them doing anything different. After all how many have died in the name of The Chistian god

And yet with everyone suggesting that your path is your choice, we find that many if not most choose their religion based on their parents choice or a friend or some other form of suggestion. It's not as though the majority of us have researched all the available paths and chose one that aligns with us the best. Most of us have made a decision based on a small amount of info and a large amount of influence from others close to us.

So is religion just another social construct and most containing tenets or commandments so similar as to be interchangeable anyway? Is it all ice cream and we're just left to choose the flavor?

What is the right path,In this case everyone tells me I am doomed to eternal damnation,my paths have chose me I have chose nothing,I dun believe there is a hell but where I live you get judged every day of your life,so being lesbian, wiccan and darkness incarnate prove very difficult but I have learned to brush it aside, and Christians,ok this quote minister called me and my girlfriend horrid names because we kissed in our car,he flipped his mental lid and in return I lost control and told him and the whole resturant what I felt about people in general and you know this little old lady told me..Do not let people like that destroy you and what you are,she made a huge difference in my life with those simple words.

the right path is the one that works for you. I have studied many religions and found that there is a common thread in almost everyone of the it is like all the religions in the world were at a time one and were split up into many so that finding the right one can not be done unless you know them all.

The one sure path is the one by which you try and maintain a clean conscience. I've been with more than one person at the time of their death and the one thing they all did was talk about the things they had or had not done in their lives that they wish they could have done differently.

How can one decide if there is just one path that you must follow, i believe that whomever has the will and guts they can make whatever path they wish, they shouldnt have to limit themselves to consider ideas that would influence or go in just one direction.

About five years ago i got this medallion from a friend of mine who was teaching me the art and discipline of daggers and swordsmanship, though it had a story of being passed on to people who after learning the desired lesson from the medallion itself would pass it on to another. Anyway, this medallions lesson was one i pretty much base everything i believe off of, what it said was "Do not follow where the path may lead, go instead to where there is no path, and leave a trail." -unknown

Thereafter i passed it one to my younger brother who in due time had learned the lesson of making ur own choices and never looking back and passed it one.

Yes but I do happen to know from many years of experience that limiting ur life and everything else around religion, I found that since i was age nine and went to church till i was 13, thats when my foster brother scott died.

Through his death my eyes had opened and I had begun to see how much stuff it takes to maintain a life around just one religion, after that i got lost in my research of being open to other possibilites. Heck although religion wasnt really what got me through all these years since then i still like to believe that i just dont want to be influenced or controlled by that of the will of my Lutheran church or any other religion. Sure its nice to be guided in a path but thats ur own individual choice if you wish to follow ur life a certain way. Just as long as your happy.

the most controversial topic on vr.....all i know is i believe that life is a journey filled with choices....it is all about your decision making....i don't believe that everything is predetermined....i would think you would be on the right path when you feel as though you are on the right path....i have been down the wrong path for a long time....i know i am on the right path now because good things are happening in my life and i genuinely feel happy. I can feel excited today just because i am alive...there was a time in my life when all i could thiink about was dying...well i started making better decisions and my life started getting better...life is full of ups and downs but it is about being able to continue on in the journey and learn from mistakes.......it is only a mistake once then it is an experience

we each most choose our own path to walk in life. as Billy stated earlier sometimes the path forks and we must choose again. but as long as we keep moving forward we are making progress. the same path will not always be for everyone, yet if we're lucky they will all lead to the same place. just as my Grandfather used to say "some get there easier then others" boy do i wish i had listened to him.
