My uncle recieved a heart transplant. He was one of only three to recieve a particular type of transplant. It was called "piggyback." Come to find out the donor had commited suicide. My uncle didn't know this. However, certain people in My family did, including myself. My uncle suffered from massive depression after that transplant. To the point, that it completely devistated his life. Loosing his wife, setting off a whole course of events that are still taking place to this day well after his death. Do you think that recieving a transplant from a donor can be a factor in mental and spiritual state afterwards? And if so, can part of the donor's mentality, or spirituality be carried into the recipient?

Absolutely. The person's energy is still in there, so it makes sense that the person recieving it will take on some of that energy.

Receiving the transplant is only part of the issue that may have led to these problems. Firstly there is the knowledge that someone had to die for your relative to receive the organ. It doesn't matter how they died, just the knowledge that in order for them to survive someone else didn't is heartwrenching enough. This is often the reason why hospitals do not allow donor recipients to know who the donors were. Also there is the fact that organ transplant is a major surgery and major surgery has been known to have apart from physical, psychological effects on the patient. So whether or not something of the original owner of the organ got transferred to your uncle (which by the way I do also agree with), there are still other factors to take into consideration.

I have heard many stories of this happening but have never seen any actual data or proof that it can. The depression could have come from any number of differing factors

You know, I find this question very interesting, I was also wondering the same thing a while back.

I think it is possible that one can absorb the energies of the previous owner.

I think the energy the person who died to give the organ follows the organ itself, and enter the new host as the organ does

I think it is a very good possibility.... I have heard other stories about people who have had transplants doing things their donor used to do before they died or gave up an organ by will....

I believe that it is absolutely a possibility... it was another persons organ after all.. and to me that would mean that part of that persons energy and emotions come with the organ

I believe it is possible that part of the donor's essence or being could be transferred since every cell contains a copy of your complete DNA make up. How much probably depends on many things; the strength of the donor's personality, the strength of the receivers personality, maybe the organ donated i.e. a heart might transfer more than the liver etc.

One experience from a friend of the family that had received a heart transplant from a 17 year old boy that had drowned in a bathtub had developed an interest in writing poetry. The boy had apparently been an incredible writer. So I suppose it is possible. In patients who have received transplanted organs, particularly hearts, it is not uncommon for memories, behaviors, preferences and habits associated with the donor to be transferred to the recipient. Patients receiving peripheral organ transplants should not experience personality changes that parallel the personalities of donors they have never met. When personality changes have been observed following transplants, the kinds of explanations entertained include effects of the immuno suppressant drugs, psychosocial stress, and pre-existing psychopathology of the recipients.

I think you recieve more than just an organ. This organ has been with the person that passed on well until they left this earth so it is part of them. I believe that it carries part of them!

This is a fascinating topic. Organ transplants occur on a few levels. While I wouldn't write off every bad incident as a result of the person who owned the heart before he did, I would say that there might be some energy implications involved.

Surgery like that has major consequences, as was mentioned by Drakontion and a few others. Counseling for post trauma is always a good idea if one feels strange after a major change in life.

Part of me wonders, however, if the energy of the previous organ owner doesn't transfer over into the recipient. Someone else has also mentioned that articles have been submitted in regards to the trauma and stress post-operation, such as this one. The linked article shows some of the benefits of meditation to monitor the symptoms of recovering post-surgery.

I personally believe that the person is the sum of their parts. The organ could carry some residue energy of the previous owner, much in the same way as a haunting might occur in a house.

Perhaps some of the meditation and yoga exercises not only chase away the blues of trauma, but also could serve to chase out any leftover "ghost" effects that are brought on by accepting someone else's organs into their own system.

The human body naturally strives towards homeostasis, and so it's going to try and equalize the addition of a different organ. It does this to greater or lesser success. I would imagine that the "residue energy" would also need to be absorbed and integrated.

just because an organ is taken from a donor dosen't change where it came from or what it went through. An organ can be cursed just like the donor.

no i dont think it is like mentioned above in the first post.
yes the heart might have had some energy left, but this energy wont last forever only the organism as a whole can produce energy for the organs (at least that is what i believe) and the hearts energy would have ceased and disappeared with time.
i think either it was fate that this happened to him or he had problems to cope with his situation

well I think there will be some residual energy as the heart is a powerful organ. So yes your uncle could very well been the victim of someone's negative energy and it took over his life.

Like the others had said..Maybe its possible that it could still carry the one who had its 'energy'.
OR...it could of been just..the though of him knowing that the person wanted to leave this planet so badly.
badly enough to kill him or herself, probly layed enough
mental pressure in his mind..thinking..that maybe,
he should of not taken the broken heart of someone who wanted death from so much pain.
do you know what i'm saying.
talk to him about it.
maybe that will ease his pain...some.

Perhaps it depends on the donor.

If I were to die, and somone could use my organs, I would be quite happy about it.

There have been reports that some people in other countries, criminals sentanced to death have had organs removed without consent......somehow I doubt if a happy outcome would follow from this.

I was quite taken how a few hours produced so many responses to My question. I've carried this question with Me for the better part of 20 years now since My uncle first recieved the transplant. My uncle passed away in 1998. While struggling with a blockage after living with the donor heart for 13 years. Just a note, the man is the longest living heart transplant recipient in My state.
The drugs that were mentioned above, he took. He had to purchase a medicine case that resembled a tackle box.
These medicines had tremendous effects on his health. Causing him to have to live as if he were living with full blown AIDS.
I have decided, that if it comes down to being the end of My life, or recieving a heart from someone. Well, I think I'll just get some rest...
Some info on the donor for My uncle is, he was 21 years old, suffered from depression, and killed himself. Some of the family members know his name. I haven't ever bothered to get it. I don't feel that part is needed.
I know what my uncle went through, and what kind of man he was before his heart went south on him. Yes, I agree that part of the depression could have been chemical release from the transplant, including the bone marrow that is introduced into the blood stream while sawing his chest open. I've read numerous reports similar to the ones that are listed here in this forum. Unfortunately for My uncle, these medicines that were mentioned in the articles, and the studies done, weren't completed, and developed until after his death.
I'm convinced that there is something that lingers with the heart. In response to the message that stated that the energy leaves the donor organ. This is proven wrong with the human heart. The human heart has its own will to live. A human heart or any animal heart will continue to beat for certain periods of time, taken out in a tramatic situation. Also, kept in the right conditions, such as they would keep it when it becomes a donor situation, the flesh is never without life. It's not a dead flesh, therefore, it's quite concievable that the chemicals, and energy from the donors body wouldn't be dead as well.

i believe it could happen yes. i believe that we are more than just body parts and organs. i could say that science would try to explain everything about what happened in your case...but who wants to hear that??? i believe that we do in fact have a soul and a mind seperate from the brain. and if we transfer a part of our body to another person, alive or dead, part of our spirit will remain with that person.

When the TV show Unsolved Mysteries was still airing...they did a story like this.

A woman needed a heart transplant and was close to dying...then suddenly they had a heart for her.Not long after this, she begain acting differently and doing this she normally hated..Motorcycle riding...getting bbq chicken wings from KFC...which she hated bfore.
Later she was contacted by the donors family, they wanted to meet the person their sins heart saved. She flew out to the families home and was invited in.As soon as she stepped through the door...she saw a pic of their son...he was on a motoercycle..holding a box of bbq chicken wings...in a KFC box.She sat down and told them her story...the boys mother said"He had a box of wings tucked into his leather jacket the night he died...he was on his motorcyle and was hit by a drunk driver.

According to the laws of physics energy can neither be created or destroyed it merely changes form so what ever energy was in the organ is still there.

I agree that the original heart owner's energy was still very much a part of the heart. As for it being the reason why he became depressed, it could be. but it could also be the trauma from such a serious surgery. plus how his life is and has changed because of it all. it could be a lot of things. but the heart is the main part of anyone, holding love, and anger and anything else. the strongest of emotions come from the heart. and that is why i feel the original owner of the organ def left a part of himself with it.

In this particular case, perhaps the donor was able to influence the lady in order that she should meet his family so they would know he lived in Spirit.

I've never really thought about it before, but after reading your story, I think that it's definitely possible. The energies of the person that originally had that organ in their body will probably always be there.

I'd like to think that you would carry your spirit with you- but my logical side fights with my spiritual side on this topic.

I believe in energy exchange. I am sure he had that- but anything relating to a person's brain would surely not transfer with just any organ. I believe you would have the essence and part of the energy of the donor... but nothing that could be attributed to their cerebral activity.

StoriesITell,

I would tend to disagree here and with several others, since it is proven that chemicals from a doner heart do have an effect on the mind of the recipient.

Whether this is linked to the previous owner, in terms of memories and such, is open for debate, but certainly, the levels of various enzymes, can create a similar pettern of psychological reaction as was present in the personality of the doner.

Still hard for me to wrap my head around. I only believe so 'far' into this. I don't discount it completely... just a part of me that is rooted in a very non-spiritual/black and white world. That's the life of a Libra... my search for balance inevitably causes that kind of inner conflict.

Taking the spiritual aspect away from it, there is still a well-defined consequence of chemical balances, which can precipitate similar moods between doner and recipient.

Fanman, that is a good question. In My uncles case, it was a dead donor. However, I did have a friend that recieved two kidneys before she passed away from CKD. She experienced depression, but I'm not sure if it was passed on. I didn't have information about her donors, like I do with My uncles case.
In response to the rest, I 100% believe that chemical balances have a lot to do with this topic. Everyone should really consider the reading links that are offered in one of the posts here. It opened My eyes to the scientific aspect of it. Although, I do still believe that energy exchange does take place, in donor situations.
Oh, and I appreciate the suggestion about talking to his surgeon. Just a correction. I've stated in My posts that My uncle passed away in 1998. I appologize for any confusion. Vladimir

I've heard of extremes like that. A happy person needs a transplant and then end up very depressed. A sad person gets a transplant and their life turns around. It does have something to do with the energy of the donor. I myself would love to know that my organs helped save a life and that person was given my energy.

I have to say what an intersting and informative post this is!

My favorite aunt passes away suddenly last yearm and she was like a mother to me and her organs were donated. We found out that two of the recipients were little girls and that gave some sort of comfort. And she was such a great lady that these little will benefit from having a part of my aunt Bev with them!

Although we could not bring ourselves to donate her eyes.

I would not go so far as to say that a part of the donor's spirit comes with the transplanted organ, but there has to be a portion of the etheric body that also makes the transfer...It is sort of creepy if you overthink it. But then medicine has made it possible for people to live by this means, so we should probably rejoice in the continuance of living instead of dwell upon the creep factor.

It would have been nice to have been informed about the condition of the donors death. The donor's C.O.D. might be a risk to the recipient. Who knows the heart itself might have lead to the donors depression due to abnormal function.

As for cursed organs, im not sure if thats possible, but faulty organs seems likely. Either way tho, Im right about this: It is sad that the donor and the recipient both suffered before they died.

I am not familiar first hand with this concept. But I would consider if it is a heart transplant, then the mind is said to reside in the heart according the Egpytain anatomy. So thus you would have to assimilate the new mind to memories created and stored in the brain.

It becomes then aligning new power, new perceptions to the former life. If your Uncle was a mage, then he has probably realized his abilities are not the same. As his memory of the magick has died. He has been given someone elses magick, someone elses memory, and someone elses path. Organ transplants are ways to finish someones work. Finish a path that the mind of the dead needed to walk but died before it could be finished. As well as the soul of your uncle to learn from. To learn something of himself on the journey.

As I've stated before, the donor was depressed, and commited suicide. Here's a little more information about the case. My uncle was the only one to survive out of the three "piggy back" recipients here in My state. The other two both died within the first 5 years of recieving it. My uncle had great will to live, but was miserable, for the most part, by doing so. He survived several infections, strokes, being overdosed on potassium by a nurse, and a body that would tear, or brake at the drop of a hat. His wife of over 20 years divorced him, he was also attacked by his formor wife's boyfriend, and his own daughter, breaking both of his arms, just to mention a few of them. When I said his life went to hell in a handbasket, it was really an understatement.

I have heard of and read about similar instances and I have to say I do believe that when you receive an organ from a donor you do receive a little bit of them after all what is a person if not the whole? Each part of you carries within it a piece of yourself.

I have to agree with ThorsAddiction's statement. I've heard stories on tv and whatnot and I believe that it is possible for ones energy to be trapped in their organs. Their blood, tissue, and hormones are in that organ and I believe it can combine with the survivors blood. When I die, I hope to donate some organs, for, it would be my way of "living on" after death. And, you never know, generations down the line, there may be a child that resembles you - thus, being re-born ;)

I think it's definatly true that part of the donors energy, and spirit is transfered over with the organ, but on top of that, there's alot of stuff that goes along with just the thoughts of having the operation. That someone died to give you that organ. That whoever died might have had a family of their own, etc etc.

Their is energy in every part of the human body and when someone gets a organ or body part from a person that has died, some of the energy from the donor is still in the organ/body part so i think their are traits that the recipient of the organ will take on, but i do not think it would be traits that a lot of people would recognize...

I think that once a person's organ is transplanted into another person they have a link, a connection. I have always believed this

I will have to say that I will not rule out that a heart still contains some sort of energy from the original donor which could affect the recipient, but as a species, we still haven't the ability to know for sure.

I will remain sceptical, as many other factors which have been mentioned above could be the contributing factors to the new conditions of the recipient.

However the idea of a residual energy left in the organ affecting the recipient is quite intriguing, I must admit.

To be honest, I can't imagine this idea of personality transfer being true in any but the most strictly scientific sense, as stated by Stab666. Chemical changes, the experience of your life being on the line, and relying on someone else's death, as well as the no doubt terrifying and invasive surgery and long recovery time will obviously have serious consequences on personality. But I just can't believe that my meaty human flesh and organs carry the very essence of my being.

My left toe is not philosophical, my skin does not have a particular fondness for 50's music, and my kidneys are not imbued with the desire to visit Tokyo. These and other traits are not part and parcel with my flesh, unless you are referring to the brain.

If in fact all human energy is kept in or passed on through the flesh then my soul/spirit is trapped there too, and the worms that will eventually feed upon my decaying corpse will no doubt begin serving their comrades a multitude of verbal lashings forthwith.

This is the way I see it. A heart is just a heart. An organ is just an organ. A person's 'energy' exists within and of their soul/spirit and if they pass it on with every bit of themselves, then all those eyelashes, dead skin cells, hair cuts, not to mention all those blood transfusions are chipping away at our souls daily. And I'm pretty sure we'd notice.

I personally believe it could happen. Especially if the doner's death was fairly recent. The spirti possibly hadn't passed on yet.

That's rather interesting!

As most people are saying, the energy around the said organ is still present, and passed on. Personally I belive that once a person dies, assuming the heart stops, the energy would move on to a new life i.e baby born, regaudless of the organ being revived. Also a persons own aura would be stonger as a whole than that of one organ, even the heart. I agree that the whole process of organ transplant is a very traumatic experience, and that it does way heavy on a persons mind. Even if that person denies it bothering them their subconcious still remembers everything and plays a part of everyday life. Occasional cases can be coincidence, but the medical community does not reconize this as a common event. This is however my oppion and from experience.

You make a good point Vashti. I understand where someone could make such a bold statement about the soul, if that's what you believe it to be. Also, the entertaining remarks about the human remains we drop on a daily basis. The 50's music, and the trips are all generated moods, behaviors, wants and needs, of the human mind. I do not argue with people in threads, and respect the point that you have given for thaught.
Blood, however, is known to have its adverse effects on recipients as well, this I've read about. That will remain another topic in a different thread.
I do appreciate all of the thaughts on this. I will leave it up for another day of discussion, or if it's RIP, for length. Vladimir

I think it's entirely likely. Sometimes just being around a person who's depressed can make me depressed. Now since he was around that part of the person for the remainder of his life I'd imagine it was many many times worse then just being in the same room with them for a set ammount of time.

i agree that organs probably don't carry the essence of ones being within them however, i do think that there is still energy left in the organ from the previous owner. and i think that will have an effect on a person. (yes most def there will be crazy roads and experiences due to the recovery process of such a serious surgery) but i personally think that there is energy left and that energy affects whomever the organ is inside.. until their own energy replaces it. if that makes sense.

now does that mean the person with the new organ will change ? no. does that mean they will start thinking and acting differently or more like the person whose organ they have, no. i think that people change period. all the time. esp after a near death experience. they tend to value life more. but will they feel sad or anxious for no reason... yes. i think so. because of the surgery, because of near death, and because of the energy of another human being merging with their own energy. again, just my opinion.

I agree with alot of the peoples comments, but i think your soul would carry what is inside of you, the body and organs just holds it all in place if a person recives another persons organ they may or may not get little traits of that person, but i doubt if you would know what that person knew, or feel what that person felt...

My hubby had a liver transplant 3 years ago. The donor was my son. He got tired of waiting and his stepdad was getting sicker and sicker. So he was a living donor. What is so weird is that my hubby has cravings for cheeseburgers that he never ate before. So, yes I think we do get someting else from transplants. He eats things now that my son loves to eat. They joined literally.

It is very possible and plausible that there was energy that was still remaining within the heart. That energy very possibly was transferred into your uncle when it became a part of him.. so yes, you can receive more than just an organ.

i think that the person would have had that organ for their whole life and there fore had enough time to if a depressed person have that organ obsorb that energy and then with death pass that on to the person that the organ is givin to
there have been many cases where a person has said to have the memories of the person they got the organ from in dreams

could a killers heart be givin to another human and then that person begin to kill?

this i do not know something are still left to be studied but there have been too many cases of this accuring to dismiss it to fancy

There is an old belief, even between doctors, that organs can still hold a part of a donor's soul or energy... it is believed that the genetic memory has something to do with it... that somehow, the characteristics of a human being are stored in the genetic material 'till the time of his death... true story, as I heard.

definitely, of course.
that heart is the last practically alive thing from the donor.. It was part of that person, and technically still is once put into someone else's body.

of course, the operation itself could have traumatized the guy.. or just being in such a condition could've impacted him badly..

but it his possible for the suicidal's feelings to have passed to your.. whatever he was to you.

To answer the question about him knowing about the donor. No, only a couple people knew about him, and how he died till after My uncles death. The donor was someone local, and that death was worked by a law enforcement officer that is in the family. We had knowlege that his heart was donated, and was typed and matched to My uncle. I hope that this helps. However, the three people that knew about this felt it wasn't in My uncles best interest or anyone else's for that matter to know about the donor.

I believe the shock of the transplant and learning to live with the knowledge of another persons organ in your body can be a mind/life altering experience. I think any part of person carries some knowledge that person in it and would thus transfer to the new host body.

I believe anything can affect you mentally depending on its nature. If he had not been told the nature of the donors death or history, he may never had been effected. However, transplantion is also known to often have a two way effect, some people come out totally different people since they faced death and were given a new lease on life, while others have an opposite effect having come so close to dying, they realize that they truly aren't immortal and that death can come at any fleeting moment living in fear that each day may be their last.

I suppose anything is possible. I just don't take too much stock in it. Even if the donor was predisposed to certain tendencies if wouldn't stop me from accepting if I was in dire need.

I replied to a post like this not long ago actually. Yesh i belive this can happen, the donor's essence/energy is still in those organs even though the soul has moved on.
According to what the donor was feeling at the time and how they died i belive this to perhaps be the case why he might have become depressed because he has all these feelings inside of him from the transplant and along with the donors energies which i'm taking were negative or not too happy seeing as how the way they died.
But i'm a bit shocked i mean shouldn't he have known before-hand that where he's getting the organs from =S

I really beleve that some of the Essence of the one who carried the organ in the first place caries over to the other...I have heard of storys of someone getting a heart and having dreams about the person who donated it..Its not uncommon for people to conect with the dead when something like that happens..Especialy if that said person died tramaticly..

What a brilliant question. I personally think that if one was to know about the fate of the donor, then yes it would effect you... but you are saying that he was never aware of this?

I can understand what others believe about energies, but I cannot personally believe it myself- that the negative emotions where passed from one person to another through an organ.

yes its plausiible. There are facts that can prove & discredit either p.o.v. so it is quite hard to determine whats the truth of the matter. I agree with LadyWinterRogue with the residual energy being left behind, as well as Infernal's mention as to if he was a mage. However things like that is quite easy for an advance mage by releasing his energies elsewhere within one's body in case such was to occur.

If you look at the mechanics of a transplant surgery, it becomes obvious that there is a very good chance that the donor's energies are still there. Typically, a donated organ is harvested right before the transplant surgery, meaning that in some manner the donor was alive shortly before the organ is implanted into the recipient. It makes sense that this persons energies would still be hanging around because the spirit of the person has barely had time to move onto wherever it's going.

That's my opinion anyways, and you know what they say about opinions.

I do not think that the transplant is responsible for the depression. Anytime someone undergoes heavy duty medical care, it can greatly affect their mental state. Even without the donor committing suicide, the recipient understands that death had to occur for his life to continue.

well I worked in the medical field for a very long time even Surgery, I have seen donor reciepiants take on many characteristics of their donors , so I feel it is the energy force that carries on with that organ that is recieved. There are alot of unexplained things on this issue yet I do believe that when a person recieves an organ fron some one they tend to have alot of their tendencies. Plus it is very hard on the reciever to know someone Died in irder for them to live so alot of things play a part in this, just my opinion is all... :)

Well I've always wondered that myself...I mean you can call it anything, you could say that it was the organ and the energies from the previous "owner", or it could just be life.

I would think to really make an educated decision on the matter, one would want to research into possible side affects of surgery in general. Depression perhaps? Who knows...

It may be that what you are suggesting is possible, but life is also life. Things happen, good and bad.
