what do you think are the pros and cons of being a vampire who does not blong to a coven and knows few other vampires?

i.e. a 'Caitiff'?

Pro, is that you are without restrictive rules and are absolved of certain responsibilities.

Con, is when you are on your own, you are vulnerable, easy prey.

I don't think they really care. I mean so what they don't belong to a Coven. Not the end of their world.

Im a bit of a caitiff, i think i makes me stronger...i happen to be in a coven on here...but i dont speak there much....

I like to be in pack's and have friend's because if you come face to face to a Vampire Hunter then you will have back up but I am a Prime Walker.

Pro: Lestat; any version will do.

Con: Dracula; Killed by Van helsing.

On a serious note: As I live in a city full of nighttimers, I can say this...Whether you are alone, or you think you are, chances are slim to not that you are not. there are always eyes watching you. Nighttimers sense any other around, whether they acknowledge your presence or not is absolutely up to the individual themselves.

well I agree with Stab666 if you don't belong to a coven then you have less restrictions, less responsiblities, but then again you will be vunerable. I think that if they are loners but have the ability to enter a coven then they jusr don't care to, they prefer to be alone.

Being in a Coven, ie a larger group... givens you more territory to hunt, more protection from other vampires and human enforcement that might be more easily paid off by a Coven

Pro: No set rules, Ultimate Freedom, Choose you allies and to come and go as you please

Con: No one to watch your back.

Sidenote: In the Preacher series of comics, Cassidy was a Solitary Vampire and he got along alright.

Covens would also allow newly Sired Vampires a place to learn how to hunt, to survive

Are you refering to vampires on vr or vampires in general.the vampire life is hard and quite a lonely one,which results in new thread about the calling.which can be taken as the vampire cry to know they not alone.which is also spoken of in a poem in the vampire datyabase by lady nocturnis orchid.If you havent read it yet do so.its most informative and spot on.Normal people sense something different about a person,which usually results in people being eithwer weary or discriminitive to that person.The vampire life is a lonely one,if it wasnt would any of us be here.

I think it does not really matter, but a loner shares no friendship with others that may be equal to them in some traits. being a loner is fine it has its values but friendship is a strong bond

the advantages of this could be that you are your own leader, never having to do as any other says, but being alone means that you wouldnt be able to fend for yourself as easily and if in trouble would have no brothers or sisters to help you out

It would make you stronger, having to fight for yourself, with no one around to help. But if you were weakened, you would be vunerable.

pro you answer to noone but yourself con if you are attacted you and you alone must get you out of the mess

some of us (like me) dont have much of a choice in the matter...we arent accepted.

Pro- As it was said above they can do as they please without repercussion from an older Vampire.

Con-Untrained, wandering around without being taught the rights and wrongs which can sometime cause alot of problems in the long run.

vampires are by nature loners

I think being alone= being food for anything and anyone, as you are like the weak link of a pack.Solitude, depressing lonelyness, its like you dont exist, and even if you did, no one would care etherway.
Being in a coven or house (till you reach sire so experience)=stronger and protected, and protective, aslo joy and pride, sens of existing and being important for someone and having important poeple for you.

It is a mortal trait to hide among others and call it society... immortals shun the company of others... save when they need to feed...

There is that quote: where ever you go, there you are to mean we are never really alone. Even if you withdraw within you are with you... I think some people choose to not be a part of a Coven for many reasons just as for the same many choose to be a part of one. I choose to be a part of a Coven to get the most out of my experince here on VR as I can. I believe Covens to be a positive thing here and wanting to be a part of a community within in a community is a great experince and a lot of fun. But if someone does not wish to be part of one I can respect that too.

Is it really any different than being a solitary anything? You feel alone and have no one to confide in. No big difference from anything else.

Peronally I like being on my own It's beter this way. I can do what I want when I want i DON'T Have to fallow the "order" or rules. So I like it lol

Sure. Anyone could choose to be the solitary type and be without rule- and face being totally misguided by their own hand. I can't say what is better.

I believe there will always be structures in place, whether the solitary know of it or not... and that should a solitary vampire do anything wrong the majority will eliminate the threat to the discovery of their existence

If the corporate vampires are left to run things then the rogue vampires will be hounded into obscurity... maybe the loners should form their own A Team... and if you can find them....

Like most have said vampires r solitary by nature.

pro- u can be your own leader, makes you stronger, more self reliant,, self assured

cons- no one to teach , help you grow, and protection of others of your kind and kinship.

I do not think their is a con to being a vampire that does not belong to a coven, and a pro is that they can do whatever they please...

Its all a matter of perception....If you are comfortable being a loner then so be it..If you're not then join the pack...

pros:
you live for as long as you want and can feast on anyone you like.
can be feared or make friends and you can stay up all night.
enhightened charisma.

cons:
if you dont have someone to be with for eternity you feel really lonely.
you cant go out in the sunlight (but that isnt much of a problem).
people flee from you just by the mention of you being a vampire, or the bearing odf your teeth.
your loved one might not accept the fact you are a vampire and end up leaving you.

i prefer to be alone most of the time but sometimes i just hate it.
somehow i accept it though, and move on.

Even in a crowd. No one will ever know you the way you do. Get over it. Just think of what you can learn from people by watching them. As for covens here? Serious? You mean that it really is a big deal? What power do they possibly hold over you? hmmm looks like the rpg manual was left at skool. best go get that.

The obvious con to a loner vamp is that they would get lonely. Humans have a need to be part of a society and to have other human interaction. I am not sure how this trait carries over to vampires. Before the hollywoodization, I cannot think of a legend or myth that has a clan of vampires.

Pros and Cons are always the same. whether alone or with a group.

Being in a group is good because then you have help with matters that require a low profile to do. Yet you then have to worry about everyone else keeping the same low profile inorder to remain hidden.

Alone you only have to worry about yourself. Your actions. Yet you have no one to turn to should things go awrye and you need assistance.

I myself tend to be a solitary Hunter. Yet I still acknowladge the benefits of being in a Pack while Hunting.

It all comes down to personal Taste.

personally I can only see that a loner vampire does not have to answer to anyone else and does not have to look out for others but on the con side of it that loner is alone with no one to look after him/her or be there to care.

Being alone is habit forming and can feel better. Being alone and cold inside, is infinitely safer.

Hunting and hiding should keep the vamps too busy for a social life.

untill just over a year and a half ago i was a loner and i never found the good side realy was lonely because i could not talk to people about this side of myself and could not find a donor that was willing for more than a few times

i think it depends on a point of view. i love it all, but the coven does have it perks

I've done the coven thing, and personally i'm too suspicious to really trust anyone in that respect. I prefer it now it's just Gav (phoenix darkraven)and me, because I know I can trust him with my life. Besides, the members of our coven seemed to be just in it because they thought it sounded 'cool' at the time. One guy took it way too seriously, kept calling me Sire and threatened Gav, telling him to stay away from me! Nope, can't be having with that hassle thank you!

the pro's:
he don't have to worry about anyone or anything
he has no one that is above him and can tell him what to do


the con's
i see none

pro:
*Less likely to be caught by vampire hunters(you are judged by who you hang around). *You run your life and not some power drunken vampire. *Less people to depend on

Con:
*Less protection.

pro as a loner vamp the killings will be more likely to happen with u getting the most if not all of the very thing you just tried to kill in the first place.

con you will problay be caught eaiser by people after you cause you are weaker prey by vampire hunters out there.

It is nice to think that as a loner you can come and go as you please, and some might, but you also have to think about encroaching on another covens territory, not all covens let it slip, Frow what I know you might be hunted down and killed, if you are lucky you are just run off.

No person is an island to one's self.

I don't think thereis anything wronge with not belonging to a coven, some vampires are better on their own...but i suppose they may be more vulnerable.

I am assuming you meant the question for the world out there, no on VR...

Being a loner-vampire sometimes is better because then it aids in your anonymity in certain parts of the world.
Whereas, if one belongs to a coven, that coven would be an easy target.

However, in some parts of the world, say in the big cities, the coven has a better chance of survival if the vampire congregate. Loner-vamps would tend to be overshadowed.

These scenarios are of course always never black and while, there are always exceptions to the rules.

the ability to heal faster then a human, to be surrounded by night life, shape shifting, flight, different languages

BUT...the fact that they have to drain life's substance to remain alive, cannot enjoy a beautiful sunrise or sunset, to listen to birds, to smell the fresh dew when the sun comes up

Well the pros are that yeah no rules, no restrictions, and no one to answer too, no one to take care of basically no responsibility

Cons are that you are vulnerable, weakend, alone, you have to survive on your own, you cannot ask help from your brethern or sisters, you are hunted down if you make other vampires without permission

both have it pro amd con it it is an individual decion weather to jion or be alone it reflects in everything we do
as a loner as some of the member have stated you have your own free will to do what you please not binded by rules as a group you have the strength of you fellow brothers and sister to protect and teach you new ways how to survive

STABB does make a point, and I actually agree to him to a point. The only reason I agree with him on some level is because when you are alone, you may be vunerable, and you may not be strong against many, but you are strong in heart to stand up to many.

To be alone, is to be strong while facing so many who are against you.

So yeah, I do agree with STABB to a degree, but I believe that it makes you strong, despite your being weak in comparison. A coven or house, is only as strong as its members, and if you have lived as a loner where no one else has, you are the strong link in a weak chain.

as long as you've got a Renny, who needs a coven?

let me start by saying that i am in a coven both in real life and here on vr and i love it.

i guess the positive attributes to being a lonor are the freedome and that there is no one that can dictate what you do

In common groups of vampires, they normally call themselves a 'Kiss' ....

And as to on here........ well, you are free to do as you wish BUT you are also alone if you ever need help....

The great thing about being a loner Vamp is I have no one to worry about but myself, but a do have a family not a Coven of others who protect me if needed. We always tend to stay by ourselves most of the time and only check up on each other every now and then.

So that makes me a loner but not alone. Ah ok safety in numbers is a good thing (pro), coming up face to face against something stronger than you without your mates to help (con).

The best thing I can think of about being a loner is that you can be your self and no one can say anything about it but you.

by nature you wnat to belong to something..can't imagine living a life of solitude.

Once you level up it's nice to have the choice to be in a Coven or not...certainly it is ones personal choice..I am in a Coven that I am enjoying very much...but I am a bit of a freebird and could be happy being alone as well. If you're not in a Coven or House you won't experience what that is all about and I'm not sure if that is necessary...some people are just here to learn with no desire to be a part of a group... VR accomodates those who want to read and learn and they can do so reading the threads and other things off of the Main Menu...then VR has "the players" those of us that participate in everything for the complete experience.

There can be great strength and power in secrecy.

First, are we talking about onilne or in real ilfe here? That makes a HUGE difference as to tha natire of the cosial interaction involved. But ulrimately it is the same as with any other social group. Pros include companionship, friends, discussion, potential learning, and a general sense of belonging to something. There is safety innumbers, and the more the merrier. Sometimes belinging to a real life coven or house is like coming home to the family you feel you shuld have had. Cons can vary depending on how disfuntional the given group is (and believe me they all have their quirks). Maybe the leadership is power hungry and controlling, maybe there is a social troll who likes making others miserable to gainattention. Perhaps there are rules that dictate your life too closely, or else you are required to do things that are against your personal ethics. Or it could be that the group yu join just isn't as active as you wanted, or that they lack motivation.

I think that being a loner for many is a choice, hence if they do not want to be in caln..they they do not have to

I would be a loner vampire that way i would not have to share anything with anyone and i would have a better chance to survive...

I think the advantage to being a loner would be that covens have a tendency to only pursue the group mind, if you will, and that is disadvantageous to the growth process of the fledgling vampire and destroys the mind of the elder, supposedly wiser blood-drinker.

It would get boring after a while. being by yourself. No one share your good and bad times with....That is if vampires still feel the way humans do.

I don't see anything wrong with being a loner vamp, as I would probably be one. There is joy in aloneness.

Being a Loner you have no restrictions,that can be fun.Being in a Clan/Coven has it's plus's like you mess with one you mess with all.At least thats how it is with my Family/Clan although we really have no rules all are free to do as they wish.I have been a Loner most of my life,so it bothers me not.

The pros to being a loner vampire are
1: Being able to chose when, what, and how you want to eat your pray.

2:Being able to move around to diffrent locations, without the hassel of others.

3: The peacefulness of being alone.

The cons;

1: Less security and safty in numbers.
2: Being lonely frequently

well cons would be....
-you would have no one who you can ask questions to
-you understand less of what is going on

pros
-you don't have to follow someone else's rules

Not being affiliated with anonline group, no big deal. What is the worst that can happen? Someone will insult you with words you can just delete or turn off.

There's more reason to at least have some friends, if not a formal Coven, house, or Order membership out in the physical realm (aka Real World). I don't thin we really have to worry too much about being "easy prey" in any more than the sense of people taking social and political advantage of you. It's a lonely life without friends! And sometimes just having someone you can talk to face to face who is cool with what you are can mean alot. The pros are generally those one gains from bing part of any close group of like-minded people.

Cons, the same as with any other social group--again. There are leaders who will exploit anyone willing to let them. People misuse their perceived power, those not in power are expected to give more than they wish. You have to play by someone else's rules and take others into consideration...Just like with any other family or group of friends.

Oh yes, and as with other aspects of life, if you don't participate with th group, then you don't get a say in the decisions the group makes. With vampires the Courts and Covens can come up with rules that everyone in a certain area is expected to follow or risk all sorts of difficulties ranging from being shunned or taunted when in public, to being beaten up or having your livelihood threatened. Vampires--savvy?

the real question is that do u want to be in family or not is the real question there.I dont see any problems with being a vampire coven or not. to other people they would rather be alone. it is up to the person on what they choose to do.

I think that it depends on how you view your isolation. Do they enjoy being alone, or do they enjoy being with other vampires? It's down to the loner themselves.

As long as they enjoy being alone then I think the freedom would be the best part of not being in a coven.

I think many prefer to be alone and i dont think they care so much on what happen.
