Why is it that most of us like to look at scary and macarbe images?
I admit that I get scared easily but still find myself drawn to look at these things and read about them knowing full well that I will spend the rest of the day/night thinking about it.
Is it curiosity or something else?
i think most of it is curiosity but some of it is fascination aswell...i know when i see images of things like that, im curious but also fascinated with them...dont know if thats good or bad but oh well! Thats just my point of view anyway!
I think it may be a case of inner demintia. Most average people would not look at but shun such images. One persons fun is anothers hell after all.
I dunno, gets the adrenaline pumping maybe? Interesting question.
I think it has to do with curiousity, and the adrenaline rush that we get when we are scared, i am not sure of what draws us to these things but I guess it has alot to do with cuiriusity.
I like to try to get scared, but only my little brother can pull it off. It reminds me i'm still very much alive kicking and screaming LOL.
I have seen so many horror movies and jusy plain scary things that it does not effect me anymore, but i think people just like to be scared once in a while, just to have the feeling of being scared...
I have always loved a good scary movie or book. It gets the adrenaline rushing and the heart pumping. It is just fun.
It's human nature to be curious about things we know nothing about.
I think it's probably down to the hormones released and how they affect the individual concerned
I agree with Craig.
I believe that being frightened in a "safe" environment, be it a scary movie, thrill ride, book etc. allows us to experience the adrenaline and endorphin release of the "Fight or Flight" response, without having to really take any defensive action.
We enjoy the hormonal "rush" of a real "life or death" moment without the actual danger.
Yepp, it is scientificly proven, that ppl like to be scared.
Id have to agree with what KCRC said...i think for most its the adrenaline rush that people get when something scares them and since they know that they're safe and wont actually be harmed they enjoy it
i guess i like to be scared because it lets me no i still have something that dose scae me and keeps me from in to stuck up
I think it's fascination and a bit of awe... somethings we might find interesting but can't quite bring ourselves to do... like suspension... I'm interested in it but it scares the crap out of me. I'm always worried about people being seriously hurt.
its one of the strongest emotional and pysilogical things in our lives, it helps us define that we are real and that some day we might die...basically we live more in the moment when we know fear in our lives; take soldiers for example, most are scared sh*tless, but they manage to accomplish amazing feats...
it gives you a rush....it's human nature to want to see things other think are grusome
Like motorcycle accidents where you see a head rolling down the street.....
ghost. beacuse iam scard of the one that lives in my house
i think it has a little to do with morbid curiosity. and a little to do with the unknown. but what i think the main reason is, is that we love the idea of feeling something strong. we look for that feeling becuase we need to feel it. we crave the energy it awakens inside us.
basically we'r "Scared" of the unknown and j/ as curious about it so anything that seems a little different is interesting..people are drawn to human misery..its like if u read a newspaper n it says "Young athlete wins again" u pretty much could care less..but if it said something like "13 people tortured and killed in abbey" thats gonna catch ur eye n ur probably gonna read it
One is never more alive than when in the grip of terror.
It’s the "fight or flight" syndrome. At the moment we are threatened, we have increased strength, power, heightened senses and intuition aka the "adrenaline rush." This hormonal reaction is why we like to be scared.
it exercises the emotions and tells us we are still alive.
we need sensations. if we could not feel gravity pulling at us, if we could not feel too hot or too cold sometimes, if we could not feel pain, we would lose our sense of self. the same is true of emotions - we need to feel them, and fear is one of the strongest. why do we enjoy watching sports when they make us angry? why do we enjoy watching a drama that makes us sad? why do we play computer games that raise levels of anxiety?
Im not sure.. it goes along with why do we hate to be tickled?
I think it's the adrenaline rush it gives you. Like the first time I jumped out of a plane. Yeah, I was scared. My adrenaline was pumping. The first step out was like holy shit. And then it was incredible.
It is more like the rush we get, our body pumps us up and its a legal high. wether its movies or rollercoaster, we all venture for the rush we have.
to me it is to know if I can handle the Fear, and the rush it gives me .
I think of if I was in some of the positions that the people in the scenes are in how well I could handle it in reality crazy yet true, I try to strenghten my fear of the macrabre, while satifing my curiousity as well LOL!
Fear makes us human and helps survive. If we wern't fearful we would be getting our asses beat all the time. Instead of running.
to me being scared means that i dont quite understand of what is going on or who is this person as some people are scared of unknown persons around them. it brings a rush to my head and I get really neriuos and start to shake a little whenever im scared but at the sametime i want to understand the reasons why whatever is scaring me is scaring me. in the end when understand the real reasons of it all im not scared anymore.
i think you like getting scared because of the adrenaline rush
Things that go bump in the night always tingle the spine like no others.
being scared is like an adrenaline rush for me thats why I like to be scared then I am pumped up ready for anything
its the release of fight or flight chemicals includeing adrenaline, endorphins and other. When scared our bodies say run, but we sty put and canabalize the nureotransmitters for a temp high
Its definitely the rush for me. Haunted houses, roller coasters, scare movies, you name it. I love them all.
there is a chemical in the body called endorphines,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and they give u a rush,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,thats y
I think its an adrinaline addiction..lol...i loive the feeling and the pressure.....lol
Curiousity and the feeling we get. Racing heart, quicken breathe then the feeling of relief afterwards. I heard from somepeople that being scared actually relaxes people.
I like feeling the rush I get when the fear races through my veins.. It an adrenaline rush.
maybe so that we can defete our being afraid and have a good feeling about wiinning
I agree with CarnalxViolence...I think it gives some people an adrenaline rush to see such images. That may be the reason people love gory horror movies.
It's fun. Also its not real so safe as can be. I want to feel all my emotions not just "happy".l
I believe its part of our nature as predictors. The thrill of even a simple horror movie is alot like hunting. Not knowing whats there.
I think it's a little of everything that has been mentioned. The rush, the not knowing what will happen next, and the fear in a controled place.
on the question of adrenalin, I think it's more the side effect of adrnalin release, after any adrenal hit, the body releases endorphins, they are the body's feel good chemical, and we are quite succeptible to addiction to them, this is what the drug "E" causes in fact is massive endorphin release
Personally, I dont scare easy, but I do enjoy macabre images.... The ones that normally make people sick or scare them... I enjoy, with a smile and all...
I get scared easly...really easly. But still, like any others I think it is the taste of the adrenaline in our blood that makes us seek fear.
When you watch something scary , and the music becomes intense, you jump when the monster. Rushes the camera, ..
It `s great feeling when your heart is beating out of your chest ...
Until the next scene when you tell your self it not going to happen this time , then boom the monster gets ya again..
I`t your body's chemicals working almost like a high..I love it ...
I think it's a fascination with the things that are not the norm...I know I can't help but look. There's the rush of it no matter how horrid. We have eyes and cannot help it.
A fasination with the things that scare you and the rush it produces. That is why I like to be scared. I do not get scared very often anymore, I am the one that scares others. I do that for the fun of it!
its knowing that your really safe while being scared thats fun...
I work during the scare season of october at bush gardens for an event called howl o scream
the reason why oh so many people in my opinion love to be scared is the adrenaline rush and that of the unknown what lurks around the corner and also how loud someone can scream or run and later laugh about the whole thing
adrenaline is an addictive natural drug we get tattoos piercings and do extreme activities for that feeling
I think thats why we enjoy being scared
I personally think it has to do with the stimulation of instincts that aren't much used in today's world. Think about it; in the modern world, most fear has been removed by modern thought and technology. The world is safe, bright. And, boring. There is little challenge. The fear of losing a job, or not having a significant other, isn't as powerful as not being able to live through the winter, or not know what lurks in the woods outside of your village. Life in older times was challenging. It kept our species awake, alert. Not so today. The things we fear today are tepid. So, when we see something that, even if for a second, awakens the old fear centers, it gives us a rush. *Shrugs* Or maybe mosnter masks are just cool. It's one of those two things.
It's all in the adneraline, but certain images disgust me because of my sensitive nature.
to me because we dont like to accept things that ain't like us most of the time...
I just like being able to experience the feeling without getting hurt... I can get the crap scared out of me, but still go home.. How cool is that!! I love the energy that pumps through my system and my heart going super fast... It's fun...
its to do with the way that the cemicals in your head give you a hi and the way it gives your body a kick lol
i think it is rush we get
our heart beating faster our breathing quicking
it is like sex for our senses
"It is like sex for our senses."
I love that! Well put!
I used to be a paramedic, so I'm used to seeing the macabre and gross stuff. I admit, it still fascinates me like nothing else. I still miss the rush of adrenaline from being on scene.
In some situations I like being scared because it makes me feel alive. I like the anticipation of knowing that my heart is going to race, and I'm going to scream, but I can't do anything about it. Rollercoasters, haunted houses, and really good horror movies do this to me.
When it's over, there seems to be this release. My whole body shakes, and I can feel all the endorphines rushing through me. It's like "I was scared shitless, but damn that was fun!"
you like the thrill of danger? try crossing the road in rush hour with your eyes shut.
eat a meal at an islamic restaurant wearing stars and stripes flag as a scarf, and order a beer with the meal.
streak through a feminists self defense class.
just like how it was stated above....
its the rush that we get off of it.
i like getting scared because it reminds me that im still human....
i was raised on scarey stuff .... when i was 8 i watched my first scarey movie....exorcist with linda blair....and ever sence then i was hooked.... not sure why i still get creeped out by them but i love'em....
Part if it's curiosity, another part is the adreneline rush and another part is i think is we like to feel scared cause we feel more alive at the same time, if u know what i mean lol
I'm sure 'shrinks' would say a lot more, but then again i'm not a 'shrink' lol
the rush it gives you and to think how dumb some of these people are that are in the movie Of course they have to be or there would be no story line lOL!!
I think for some of us its the fact that our lives are so generally boring that these images stimulate our brains in a different way (compared to just a normal movie.) At least thats why I like them sometimes.
nothing like looking at messed up people in messed up accidents. i think its because people don't see it everyday and it facinates. I love it when something happens that im totally not ready for. makes the heart start beating and makes me feel alive.
Maybe I am one of the few squimish folks on this site, but I cannot stomach scary/horror films. My logic is why put those images and thoughts in my head? Give me romantic comodies and happily ever after, and forget the bloody zombies :)
cause we dont have to deal with death and pain on the scale we use to even 50 years ago. and we have draw to stuff like that. we humans are sick creatures. plus we enjoy the thrill of being scared. lets u know ur alive.
I think people like the adrenaline rush it gives you to be scared.... I know I do...
The adrenaline rush I guess . People like to get scared .
*jumps in, strikes rock-star pose*
It makes us feel ALIVE!!!
a lot of us are adrenaline junkies lol. It's like a drug. I love being scared, love suspense, but I am gonna have to reveal my whimpy side, the gore stuff, I can hardly look at even though I love scary movies. In real life and watching movies, I am such an empath I guess, that when I see people hurt, it hurts me. Does that make sense to anyone? lol I can feel their pain, literally. Even knowing most of the movies I am watching are fiction, it can still bother me.
There IS a definite morbid curiosity I believe we have as humans though, we don't wanna see, but can't look away.
I think its part of facing your fear of death. Challenging yourself to stare death in the face and survive. Its a rush and nothing better than the heart thumping hard and finding it hard to breath. I also like horror movies that have that jumpy scary factor, like when you know the killer is lurking in the house and the victim is going down the corridor and a cat jumps out, makes you scream and gives you a jolt of electicity to the body lmao.
Loves Being Scared its a Rush and thrill getting the heart racing and mind running .. the other night i watched the Movie Pulse .. Oh Man was that Wicked .. How Each person clikced on the Website Saying .. Would You like to Meet a Ghost? Then They did and shortly after Died.. hahaha I kept looking at my PC Buggin Out But Shit was that a Great Movie Id recommend it to Anyone!!
For me its both curiosity and the adreniline rush. It also makes life more interesting.
I think its a mixture of ADRENALINE / CURIOSITY and a TABOO subject we should like it but we do!!
Maybe were drawn towards the fascination that it brings and get easily aroused by thought of being scared.
To me bein scared just reminds me i am alive..the rush of adrenaline..the feeling of knowing something could have happened or might happen to you..It just brings my senses to life.
Fear is the most dominant emotion when we are touched, even in a loving way, we automatically draw away over time and with experiences these feelings take more and more to activate due to a desensitization from the norm eventually it takes more than just someone jumping out to scare you and feed into the primal energy that drives us to where we subconsciously seek out things that make out skin crawl and give us those nightmares from when we were children about the things that go bump in the night.
I would say that for most its an adreniline rush.. The feeling of a natural body induced high
